Chapter 1: The Boy Who Sees Death
~Your POV~
I was sitting on the top of a building, dangling my bare feet over the edge. I giggled a little bit. "3...2...1." I counted down. *CRASH*. I chuckled before jumping off the building and down to the wreck below. Humans all crowded around on the sidewalk, trying to take pictures, or call an ambulance. A few police officers all kept the humans from getting close to the wreck. I walked over to the smoking cars and leaned over the body that had been slung out of one of the cars. I had my scythe in hand just incase the soul was difficult to handle. I placed the tip of my scythe over the man's chest and it started glowing. A white orb floated out of his chest. I held out my hand and the orb floated above it. "What a good man. Such a shame." I said shaking my head with a small smile. "May you rest in peace good sir." I said as the orb shifted into a white dove. I held out my hand towards the sky. The dove chirped at me before flying up into the sky until it was out of view. I leaned down and closed the man's eyes for him. I sighed and walked over to the other car looking at the women in the front seat. The door popped open and her body came tumbling out. I held the tip of my scythe over her chest and instead of the white orb I was so used to seeing a pitch black orb rose instead. I smirked. "Tsk, tsk. Naughty girl weren't you. Welp down to the Underworld with you." I said holding out my hand. The orb floated above it before shifting into a pitch black raven. It crowed at me before I stomped my foot and a crack formed in the ground, widening into a large rift. I tossed the bird out of my hand into the rift as it flew down into the Underworld. The rift closed behind it. I closed the women's eyes, slightly disturbed by her death stare. I sighed shaking my head. I pulled out my silver pocket watch from my black cloak's pocket. I flicked it open checking the time. I groaned, seeing as I had another assignment today. I walked away from the wreck onto the sidewalk humming to myself. I rested my scythe on my shoulders, trying to think where my assignment was this time. "Hey you!" Someone shouted. I didn't respond, knowing that some human was probably calling out to another. "You in the black cloak and the scythe, stop!" That shocked me. I turned my head to see a purple haired teen dressed in white running up to me. "I saw you walk away from that wreck. Where you caught up in that? You okay? Also what's with the costume? I'm pretty sure Halloween isn't for another few months so you're a little early there lady." He said. I fully turned around, stareing at him in shock. "You can....see me?" I questioned, my voice having a slight echo to it. "Yeah I can see you. What kinda question is that?" He asked. I titled my head to the side, still with my normal happy-go-lucky expression. "Huh? That's odd. It's been a while since someone's been able to see me." I mumbled to myself. "What was that?" He questioned before shaking his head. "No, no right now, focus Kokichi." He mumbled to himself. "Anyways answer my questions! Were you caught up in that wreck? Who are you?" He questioned, pointing at me. I hummed a little, really not in the mood to use my brain at the moment. "Was I caught up in the wreck? You could say that. As for who I am, that's simple. I am death." I said smiling before turning around and continuing to walk. He ran out in front of me, I stopped. "Okay hold it. Is this some kinda prank? If so not very creative being honest." He said in a matter-of-factly tone. "Second, what do you mean you could say you were involved in the wreck? The heck does that mean?" He questioned throwing his arms out in front of him as if to prove a point. "And third off, what do you mean by 'I am Death'? Like I said if this is a prank I've seen better." He finished. I hummed a little before teleporting behind him. He looked at me in shock. I smirked at him. "As I said, I am Death. Or as you humans say, The Grim Reaper. That should answer all of your questions." I said. I heard a loud caw and looked to see my raven flying over. I held out my arm as she landed on it, cawing my ear off. "Okay chill I get it. Blah, blah, blah, do my job, blah, blah, blah." I said rolling my eyes. She cawed again causing me to sigh. "I can't remember where I'm suppose to go." I said looking away. She covered her beak with her wing as a sort-of facepalm. She cawed again before flying off. "Yeah I'm coming. Geez I hate her sometimes." I grumbled. Kokichi just looked at me weird. "Sorry. I've got to go. Later Oma." I said before teleporting to where Karasu had said my next assignment was.
~Time Skip Kokichi's POV~
After my run in with that weird Grim Reaper I just went home. I opened the door to my apartment...TO SEE THAT (H/C) HAIRED GRIM REAPER NAPPING ON MY COUCH! "What the hell...?" I questioned, masking any panic in my mind. She quickly snapped awake, jumping up her scythe appearing in her hands. "I'M AWAKE!" She shouted. I snickered slightly at the look of drowsiness on her face as she swung the scythe around. She then looked at me with a blank expression. "Oh." She said. This caused me to laugh more and I have no idea why I found this so funny. She shook her head before floating on her back with a small lazy smile on her face. She crossed her legs flicking out a silver pocket watch. She hummed before flicking it closed and putting it away. "So, umm....why are you here?" I questioned. She giggled a little bit. "My next job assignment is 'round here somewhere." She said. "Speaking of, you might want to hide somewhere. A murderer will be showing up soon." She said dismissively. "I'M SORRY WHAT!?" I shouted. She just burst out laughing. "I'm joking kid, geez. Nope, a person's just gonna have a heart attack the door over. No biggy." She said. I sweat-dropped. Is she for real? I thought. "Yes, I will gladly inform you that I am quite real." She said. "What the-." "I already told you Oma, I am Death. I can hear human thoughts just as easily as I can see their souls." She explained. She looked at me with that lazy smile of her's (E/C) eyes shining slightly. "Y'know, I never though a Grim Reaper would look so human." I pointed out. She hummed a little. "Well most reapers favor their skeleton forms. I, to put it lightly, do not." She responded. "I see...You're different then?" I said in a questioning tone. She giggled. "Different doesn't even begin to describe it. I'm literally the laziest Grim Reaper you'll probably ever see. Speaking of seeing, do you have any idea how you can see me without me turning off my invisibility?" She questioned. A couple of bloody images flashed in my mind before I shook them out. "Nope. No clue." I lied with a smile. She shot me a look, smile fading before returning again. "Okay. Guess it's a mystery then." She said. I heard a scream from the door down causing me to jump slightly. "Welp, that's my cue." She said. And in a flash of (F/C) light she was gone. A cold chill ran up my spine as the screaming stopped. I sighed slightly, welcoming the cold feeling as I walked into the kitchen and got Panta out of the fridge. When I closed the door to the fridge I felt another cold chill and looked above me. She was back again. "Okay. Now that that's done and over with." She said rolling her eyes. I gave her a weird look. "So....How did you know my last name?" I questioned. "I am Death. I know everything about a person at a glance. I also know that you're the Ultimate Supreme Leader. And confused on why that's your title and not Ultimate Prankster or something along those lines. And that you're actual very skilled with close combat despite your appearance." She listed. I leaned on the fridge stareing up at her. "Woooow. You're well informed." I said. "I kinda have to be." She said. "Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some time to kill so I'll just be taking a death like nap." She said floating back over to the couch. "Wait....are those death puns?" I questioned, snickering slightly. She hummed a little. "I have a very dark sense of humor. So my jokes are pretty grim. But hey it's not a party until you've got a proper death on your hands." She said. "That's five jokes in only a minute. Color me impressed." I said. She snickered to herself before laying on the couch. "Welp. Imma sleep now. Night." She said. "It's two in the afternoon." I grumbled. She was already asleep.
"So weird." I mumbled to myself with a slight smile. "Woooow. I really should be freaking out right now shouldn't I? I mean there's literally death in my home." I said shaking my head slightly. But then again....wouldn't be the first time I was in the presence of death. I thought. I shook my head as the images started coming back. I sighed, that cold empty feeling returning. A crushed skull, drowned then eaten, stabbed, strangled, crushed... I slowly slid down before curling up at the base of the fridge. Hung, tortured, boiled, stung then stabbed, shot. I shook my head trying to clear the images away. I wiped my eyes. But the images wouldn't go away. "Just when you think you're over it..." I mumbled to myself.
Unknown to me at the time, that Reaper was listening to my thoughts and my words. Reading each image that flashed in my head with care. Death doesn't sleep. It only looks like that.
