Pen Name: Meixia

Username: MeiSummer

Is your pen name your legal name? If no, then how did you make up one?

No, my pen name is my Chinese name. I got it after I moved to China. It means "beautiful summer." I think it represents who I am better than my real name.

How many books have you published till date?

At present, I have 5 stories on Wattpad. Two of them are still ongoing.

What are your future projects?

I'm working on a holiday anthology with some of my friends. It will be published in December. I can't wait to share it with all of you because unlike the rest of my works, the story I'm planning to contribute has a futuristic setting.

What is writing to you?

Writing is my creative contribution to the world. These days, because there's so much content to be had, it's really easy to be a mindless consumer. However, I think being a creator and having a say on the type of content that gets thrown out there is just as important.

Is being an author, your long time dream or a hidden passion you found out later?

I've always wanted to be a writer. It's my childhood dream.

What genre books you like to work on?

I love the romance genre. I read and write romance!

If we challenge you to write a book of another genre we suggest, then would you take it up?

I might consider it. It's always great to challenge oneself.

Then we would love to read a Mythological Romance book from you soon.

Writing is a reality that paints a beautiful fantasy. What do you think are the charms of writing fiction/non fictional books?

Whether you write fiction or non-fiction, stories are often reflections of the world as the writer sees it. There's a lot of myself in my writing. I like writing stories that are relevant to my current societal context. To be able to share my worldview with others, that's the charm of writing.

Who are your favorite authors in and out of wattpad?

There are so many writers I adore. My all-time favorites are Lisa Kleypas, Jennifer Crusie, and Sophie Kinsella. On Wattpad, I love The Kept by BDLands. Recently, I'm also enjoying Mi and You by EustaciaTan14.

Name few of your close wattpad friends.

I absolutely adore blu_blu_skye, AgathaRoza, BorntoWrite47, and lovelyandbubbly . They are all lovely and supportive people!

What is your favorite series you have recently watched or read?

I am obsessed with the Korean drama Vagabond. Every episode leaves me either crying or shouting at the TV. I'm always on the edge of my seat!

Who is your favorite actor/actress?

There are so many! But special mention to Park Hyungsik and Park Boyoung from Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, because they inspired me to write my first Wattpad story.

Who is your favorite Villain you couldn't help but love?

I really had to think about this one. Probably Galen the Treacherous from Gena Showalter's The Darkest Captive. For most of the Lords of the Underworld series, he was this vile character everyone hated. Then, I learned about his back story and ended up rooting for him.

What are your hobbies other than writing and reading?

Do you guys consider eating and shopping as hobbies? I do! Also, I love traveling and seeing new places.

What are your hidden talents?

If I told you guys, it won't be hidden anymore. :P

Who is your first celebrity crush?

The first celebrity crush I can remember is Devon Sawa as Casper. Gosh, you can tell my age from this!

What is the most embarrassing situation that you have ever been through?

I'm a magnet for embarrassing situations. The most recent one involved me unknowingly entering the male restroom. After I did my business, I got out of the stall and found this guy doing his thing, too. I stared at him as if he was in the wrong, then left. I realized after I was the one who was in the wrong place! Ugh!

One craziest thing you have ever done?

Probably snatching back my wallet from a thief on a motorcycle who tried to steal it from me. Thinking about it, so many things could have gone wrong! I'm glad I'm still alive.

There are many authors who just started their journey and many readers who want to write but has no courage to do so. Please give them a tip and a word of encouragement.

Recently, I heard a quote that really struck me, "Done is better than perfect." As writers and aspiring writers, we sometimes think too much — about our capabilities and what others will think. This ends up paralyzing us. More than getting things done perfectly, the most important thing is simply getting things done. Take that first step. Never mind if you falter along that way or if it's not the best it can be. You can always go back and edit. To end, let me leave you with another tip my literature teacher once gave me, "Write in white heat; edit in cold blood."

Last but not the least, have you ever dreamt of writing your own comic?

I love Webtoons! I'm currently reading True Beauty and enjoy everything about it. If I had a chance, I would love to write my own manhua.

What do you feel about this interview?
