st: stitches

K: knit

P: purl

C8F: Slip next four stitches onto cable needle and hold at front of work. Knit four. Knit four off cable needle.

C8B: Slip next four stitches onto cable needle and hold at back of work. Knit four. Knit four off cable needle.

Materials:

Size US 7 (4.5 mm) needles (or size needed to meet gauge)

Light or worsted weight yarn 

Cable needle

Gauge:

6 st. and 5 rows to 1" in K2 P2 ribbing (light weight yarn)

4 st. and 4 rows to 1" in K2 P2 ribbing (worsted weight yarn)

Instructions:

Ribbing:

Cast on 28 st.

Row 1: *K2 P2. Repeat until end.*

Repeat from * to * until Row 11. Do not knit Row 11. 

Cable:

Row 1: K4 P4 K12 P4 K4. 

Row 2: K8 P12 K8.

Rows 3, 5: as Row 1.

Rows 4, 6: as Row 2.

Row 7: K4 P4 C8F K4 P4 K4.

Row 8: as Row 2. 

Rows 9, 11, 13: as Row 1.

Rows 10, 12, 14: as Row 2.

Row 15: K4 P4 K4 C8B P4 K4.

Row 16. as Row 2. 

Repeat Rows 1-16 until desired length.

Ribbing:

Repeat from * to * as above.
