I

"Mia Nova, please report to the main office." The speakers crackled to life and then settled back down promptly after the eight words I had been anticipating for months.
So I stood from my seat and gathered my books, flashing a smile at my annoyed teacher before walking to my locker. I packed my backpack quietly before clicking my lock shut and slinging my backpack, which is bright pink with metallic silver and purple circles, over my shoulder. I walked down the eerie hallway, my footsteps the only sound as I neared the office. I opened the door, and was shocked by what I saw inside.
The teachers were... were... were... dancing.
And not just any dance...
The whip.

"Watch me whip
Now watch me nae nae
Watch me whip whip
Watch me nae nae."

I almost screamed, my jaw dropping and smiling until my cheeks hurt. Then I turned to see my dad in the hall dancing in sync with them. I squealed.
"Dad! Come on, let's go!" I said, walking towards the door.
"I'm coming, Mia," he said, jogging to catch up with me as I walked across the parking lot to his car. I got in the front and tossed my bag in the back next to my little brother, July, who's twelve. Personally, I think July is a strange name, but whatever. My parents chose it, so their loss.
"So how was school, Mia?" Dad asked, pressing the button to start the car.
Yes, folks, my dad drives a Honda CRV. So manly, right? Oh, and it's pinkish-orange. You don't think it's a thing until you see it.
"Pretty good. I got a 100 on my math test. Again. But I'm gonna have to make up a WebQuest," I explained, watching the trees roll by.
"Great! How was your day, July?" Dad asked.
"Okay. There was this thing we learned called algebra. It was scary," July said dramatically. I sighed.
"Algebra's not as hard as you think," I said as we got on the highway. "Why don't you just give it a chance?"
July sighed. "I suppose you're right."
I grinned. "I always am, Jules."
I could feel July roll his eyes at the nickname. I had started calling him that after reading Loot for a class project and thus picked it up from March. Great book, by the way.
I turned on the radio, letting out one of those whispered yeses when Chillin' It by Cole Swindle came on.

An hour later we pulled into the parking lot of the hospital. Dad parked the car before turning it off and hopping out, soon followed by July and I. We followed Dad through the sliding doors leading into the building and across the lobby to an elevator. July pressed the up button and we waited with a few others until the elevator dinged and the doors slid open. We stepped in and pressed the button for floor 3, waiting as the other group pressed the button for floor 2. We reached the second floor and the others got off, one person getting on and hitting floor 4. At floor three we got off and Dad led July and I down the hall and into a room marked 365. Mom was sitting in a bed with two sleeping babies in her arms. I raised my eyebrows, surprised.
"Girls, boys, or both?" I asked.
"Girls," Mom said, smiling. "Katherine May and Pearl Abigail. Lively little things too."
As she spoke Pearl yawned, waking up slowly. I smiled.
"They're going to share a room, too, so you two will still get your own rooms," Dad added.
"Yes!" July and I said at the same time. We high-fived, grinning.
"But-"
I knew there had to be a catch.
"You can only do one sport each."
