Chapter IV
The knight and Doran walked into the closest tavern where there were some people sitting and having a laugh, while some talked in whispers. They headed to the bar in the middle of the tavern and sat down, both ordered a drink and sat around waiting.
"So, you have a brother," Doran started as the knight lifted his helmet and took a swig of his drink. "Is he alive?" Doran continued as the knight placed his drink on the counter.
"No, he died the same night and my mother and father." The knight replied as two men entered the tavern. "I was nineteen when it happened, I watched each of them die and my brother he died in my arms. I swore to my father that I would kill the man that took our home and killed all out people."
"I am very sorry." Doran said as the two men walked over to the bar.
"Thank you, but I don't need your sympathy." Said the knight as one of the men tipped over his drink. "You need something?" Asked the knight as he looked up at the man.
"You are in my seat." Said the man as he lifted his shirt to show a blade in his belt. "I don't want to ask again."
"No need." Doran answered as he got up, looking at the knight who was still sitting in the man's chair. "Knight?"
"There are more seats over there, you can use one of them." The knight mocked as he picked up his cup and handed it to the bar tender. "Hold this will ya."
The man grabbed the knight's shoulder only to have him turn quickly and grabbed his arm bending it backwards. There was a large crack in the man's arm as the other man kicked a chair hitting the knight in the stomach. Getting knocked back the man was able to pull out a knife and scratch the knight's armor. The man looked at the knight to see he was not very pleased with what he had done. Grabbing the arm of the second man in quick succession he was able to place the knife at his throat.
"Now am I still in your seat?" Asked the knight as the man nodded no.
The knight let the men go and the two of them raced out the door as the knight sat back down and ordered another drink. Doran sat down next to him ready to continue listening to the knight's past. But he did not, he drank all of his drink and got up from the bar.
"Umm where are you going?" asked Doran.
"I have said it many times, I am still looking for information on the man that killed my father." Answered the knight as Doran got up and pointed over to man in cloak sitting in the back of the tavern.
"He can help us, me and a couple of other soldiers have asked him for information he is not usually wrong." Doran told the knight as he looked over at the man.
"Are you sure?" the knight asked, making sure that something might not happen again.
"Positive." Doran replied as he walked the knight over to the man and sat down.
The man was in a thick black cloak, hiding his face along with any scars. He held a long sword at his side keeping it close to him as Doran looked at him waiting for him to say something. The man said nothing just stared at Doran with his dark brown eyes.
"We were wondering if you had any information about the Raiders?" Asked Doran as the man relaxed leaning back into his chair.
"Who is asking you or him?" The man asked as he pointed to the knight. "I do business for people who ask me the questions so if you don't need anything Doran then let the man sit."
Doran got off his seat and had the knight take his place at the table. There was a solid silence for a while before the knight spoke.
"A friend told me you could give information if it is true than I would like to know about the Raiders?" the knight asked.
"The Raiders? I do not know what you are talking about." The man replied showing no emotion on his face.
"I think you do." The knight answered as he placed a bag of coins on the table. "Now do you know anything about the Raiders?" the knight asked again as Doran looked at his side to see that the bag of coins was his.
"Sure, here is what I know. These Raiders are a group of people who follow one man and one man only Drake, he was said to bitten by a wolf as a child and killed it with his bare hands. After that his father made him the leader of the Raiders at the age of nine, he learned to wield a sword and killed his first man a mere three days later." The man told them as he took the gold, opening the bag and seeing there was nothing but rocks in the bag.
"Pleasure doing business." The knight said as he got up from the table.
The knight and Doran walked out of the tavern into the daytime air of Arrowswell. Doran looked at the knight who opened his hand and handed Doran his gold back. Doran had a small laugh as they walked on over to the stables.
"So now that we know his name what are we to do?" Asked Doran as if he did not know the answer already.
"Find this Drake and kill him." The knight replied as they walked on into the stables of Arrowswell.
A man sitting on a barrel looked over at the knight and Doran, got on up and leaned on a pitchfork next to him. He stayed there waiting for the knight and Doran to come closer. Once they were a good distance close to the man Doran spoke.
"We would like to rent two horses please." Doran asked as the man had them follow him into the horses' pens. "These two will do fine." Said Doran as he pointed out the two.
The man grabbed the two horses and saddles placing them on the back of the horses. He grabbed two cloth rolls and added them as well, not even asking Doran or the knight if they wanted them. Doran patted his horse and gave the man some coins for the horses. Hoping onto the back of the horses the knight and Doran headed out the large door into the wilderness of Avalon once again.
"So, I was thinking if we are to stay together in this adventure I probably should now your name, I mean if you want to give it that is." Doran asked as the knight looked over to him and smiled under his helmet.
"Arturus, that is my name." Said the knight as they road off into the plains.
