Chapter III

Grabbing his sword and putting it back around his waist the knight drew his blade and knocked down the door. Two guards behind the door quickly turned around and tried to draw their swords but were not fast enough. The knight cut them both down, small pools of blood appearing on the ground next to their bodies. Continuing, the knight walked up the path towards the large building where the king stood.

"You can't come up here, I have to ask you to leave." One of the guards said on the path up.

The knight ignored him walking past him until he and two others drew their swords. The knight turned around quickly cutting one of them down before he had time to block or counter. The other two attacked together but were unable to hit the knight. He countered one of them and tripped the other having him fall down and the other exposed for a attack.

Taking out the one that was exposed and then trying to stab the one on the ground, the knight was unable to finish the last one. Rolling out of the way, the last soldier tried to kick the knight to make an opening only to have the knight grab his leg and slash the underside of his knee, the soldier screamed in pain as the knight shoved him to the ground and stabbed him in the chest.

"I can go were ever I wish." The knight said to the corps of the soldiers.

Walking up the path the knight made it to the large metal and wooden doors. The knocking on the doors to watch them open and have a large open throne room in front of the knight. Walking on into the room the knight noticed multiple soldiers on both walls and the king sitting on his throne.

"And what are you doing here?" Asked the king as he staired straight at the knight.

"I have come to ask of you to spare Doran's life." The knight answered as the king gave out a small chuckle.

"He attacked my son." The king said as Taff walked into the room from behind a side door.

"He is your son?" the knight asked.

"Yes I am, have a problem with that?" Taff replied asking another question.

"I just thought if you were the king's son you would be able to fight better." The Knight mocked as Taff grabbed the hilt of his sword.

"Doran's life will not be spared no matter what happens." The king continued as he had Taff let go of his hilt.

"What about the man that took your sons eye?" Asked the knight as he lifted his blade showing the blood from all the soldiers he had killed. "I think the blood is still on here, somewhere."

"Grab him!" Yelled out the king as all the soldiers from around the throne room drew their swords and walked closer to the knight.

The doors closed and the knight was surrounded by at least a dozen soldiers. Yet no fear was shown; the knight stood his ground and waited for the soldiers to attack. In one quick movement three of the soldiers were already down and the others watched as the knight cut them down one by one. None of them standing chance against him; the blood of the soldiers was dripping off the knight's sword as he pulled the blade out from the chest of the last soldier.

"That is not possible." The king exclaimed as two doors at the end of the room opened and more soldiers came running out.

The knight dripping of blood and sweat stood there still with no fear of his death. He lifted his sword and watched as two dozen more soldiers entered the room. The knight sheathed his sword and gave a proposition.

"Take my life instead of Doran's, you can see that I am much more of a threat then him anyways." The knight pleaded as the king ordered his men to stand down.

"Why? Why send yourself to death for just one person?" asked the king as two soldiers walked up to the knight with handcuffs.

"I really don't know." The knight whispered to himself as the soldiers walked him back to his cell.

Throwing him into the cell, the knight had no weapon and his helmet had been taking as well. Doran was on his bed in his cell still cut and bruised from his beating as he locked up to see the soldiers opening the door for him.

"What is this?" Doran asked as he was slightly confused as to why the soldiers were moving the bodies of the other soldiers and leaving the cell door open.

"Be happy Doran, the knight took your place." Said one of the soldiers as they removed the last dead soldier. "You are free to go."

Doran looked at the knight who had sat down on his bed and watched him walk over to his cell. The knight knew what he was going to say and just had him leave. Watching Doran leave, the knight got up off his bed and walked over to his cell door.

"I would like to move up my execution." The knight asked the soldiers as they laughed at him.

"You have a death wish or something?" asked one of the soldiers as they both laughed.

"Do it or I break these cuffs and smash your head into the wall." The knight threatened as the soldiers quickly ran up the stairs.

The soldier came back down with a key in his hand and opened the cell door; he grabbed the knights' arms and took him out of the prison. The sun was slowly rising and the cold air from the breeze sent a cold shiver down the knight's armor. There in the middle of the town was a wooden block and a large group of people around the area. The knight was led up a set of stairs and kneeled in front of the wooden block.

"We are gathered here today for the execution of..." The soldier paused as he did not know what the knight's name was. "Of a man who has disobey the laws."

The knight looked out at the crowd to see Doran there staring at him, with a cloth over his head. The knight placed his head on the block, looking away from Doran.

"If you have any last words, you may say them now." The soldier said as another soldier came up the stairs carrying a large axe.

"Yes, I do, Soutle." The knight said as the crowd gasped at what he had said.

"Are you sure?" asked the soldier as the knight got up off the ground.

The knight did not say anything, just waited for the soldier to take him away. Soutle is a way of asking for trial by combat meaning that if the knight beats whoever he is up against he is free of all charges. His opponent is chosen by the city, and there are no weapons aloud. The soldiers took the knight away, taking him to the other side of Arrowswell.

The people all followed as they took him to the arena where he would fight for his life. Doran followed in the crowd trying to stay close enough to see the knight but not too close. The knight was ripped of his weapons and thrown down into a pit.

"This does not seem very formal." The Knight said as he looked up and around.

"It is not." One of the soldiers replied. "There will be three trials, one with one fighter, another with two fighters, and the last with three fighters. If this knight lives through all the trials he is free to go."

The Knight looked around as he watched a soldier drop his sword and hop into the pit with him. He wasted no time and charged right at the knight. The knight was ready, he moved to the side a little being able to get to the side of his grab. The knight grabbed his arm and bent it backwards making a loud crack as he slammed his head to the ground with his knee. The soldier was unable to get up, sending in two new fighters.

"Next two fighters!" Yelled out the soldier as this time three random people jumped into the pit.

The knight stared at the three fighters, one middle aged and the other one a little older. They both came at the knight at the same time, forcing the knight to have to choose. He chose the older one hoping that he was a little less durable than the other man. He blocked his attack only to be kicked in the side by the other man. Changing his focus to the middle-aged man he was able to overpower him and get him in a choke hold. Gasping for air the other man kicked them both sending them to the ground and the middle-aged man unable to get up.

The knight rolled away from another kick, jumping back to his feet he was able to land three punches. One to the head and two to the chest, the man stumbled backwards. He regained his balance and attacked again, the knight always ready blocked his punch and his kick. Grabbing his leg, the knight threw the man to the ground. He landed down on the man, giving him three rapid punches to the face knocking him out.

The middle-aged man got back up and was able to grab the knight he threw him to the ground. Rolling the knight was able to regain his balance once more and grab the man's legs. Pulling him to the ground he got on top of the man and slammed three punches into him as well keeping him knocked out for a while as well.

"Next three fighters!" The soldier yelled again a little bit of irritation in his voice as three soldiers drew their swords and jumped into the pit.

The audience that once was screaming in excitement went completely quite as the soldiers surrounded the knight. Surprised to see weapons in a fight that was not supposed to have them, Doran unsheathed his sword and threw it to the knight.

"Catch!" Yelled out Doran as the knight turned and caught the sword readying his attack.

The three soldiers were surprised but that faded quickly as the knight rushed them. Taking the offensive side right away, the knight was able to knock the weapon out of one of the soldiers' hands. Kicking him the knight was able to lessen the amount of people attacking him. He disarmed another one of the soldiers and knocked him to the ground. The other soldier got back up and jumped onto the back of the knight making him drop his sword.

"Hit him!" He yelled out, as the last soldier with a weapon hit him twice in the chest.

The knight grunted at the two hits then picked up the man off his back and smashed his back into his knee. A loud crack was heard as the soldier's body hit the ground. The last soldier still holding a weapon gave one last try to take down the knight, holding his weapon close he rushed and failed. The knight grabbed his sword by the blade and pulled it out of his hands, the soldier got backed down yielding to the knight.

"I have passed your trials am I free to go?" asked the knight as he grabbed his sword listening to the silent crowd.

"Yes." Mumbled the soldier as the knight came over to the side of the pit.

"Let me help you." Said Doran as he gave out his hand and helped the knight out of the pit.

The knight said thank you and then walked with Doran through the crowd. A lot of them were making faces at Doran and the knight as they walked out of the crowd. Doran was limping a little bit and still had his bruises, but someone had cleaned him up as he had some cloth covering his chest.

"Now what?" asked Doran as they walked through the city's market.

"My plans have not changed; I need to find who ever killed my father which means I need information." Replied the knight as a small man walked in front of Doran and the knight.

"Information what kind?" The man asked in a scratchy voice.

"Well, I am looking for someone but don't know their name." Answered the knight as Doran gave him a nudge. "What?" The knight whispered as he turned to Doran only to have the little man cut his belt and run off with his sword. "That little shi..."

Doran and the knight raced after the little man as he laughed at them. The market was not too crowded but there were enough people to make it hard to run through them all. Doran tripped on a person's leg and hit the ground hard.

"Keep going I will catch up." Doran yelled out as the knight quickened his pace.

The knight raced past lots of different stands, some full of food, some weapons and some with things that definitely were not meant for kids. The small man ran into an alley way but soon found himself cornered with a large building in his way to escape.

"Give that back." The knight ordered as he pulled a dagger from his boot.

"Umm... No." The little man laughed as he ran under the knights' legs only to run into a blade at his throat.

"Were do you think your going?" asked Doran as he gave the knight a smile.

"Nowhere." The man said as he dropped the belt and sword.

The knight picked up his belt and looked at it; the side was cut. It would have to be sown back together. The knight was mad as he grabbed the little man by his hair and lifted him up.

"Tell me where the closest tailor is or your loss your hair." The knight threatened as Doran was surprised to see the knight this mad about a belt. "Tell me!" he yelled as the little man screeched.

"Fine... there is a tailor on the east side of the town." The little man answered as the knight dropped him on the ground and walked on past Doran.

"What was that for?" Doran asked as they started their walk east to the tailor.

"What was what?" the knight replied with another question.

"Why did you have to hurt him? It is just a belt we can buy another one." Doran said, as the knight took a large amount of offense from this statement.

"It is not just a belt; it is my brothers' belt." The knight replied in a firm tone.

"I did not now you had a brother? Is that the who you were talking about in your sleep? Andrion?" Doran asked as the knight stayed silent the rest of the walk to the tailor.

The building was small but there was no need for it to be too large. The knight knocked on the door and heard a man to tell them to enter. Doran and the knight entered the building, walking into a small but comfortable store. The walls had lots of different cloths and leather, there were a couple of swords as well as a few tables.

"What can I do for you gentlemen?" Asked the man as the knight showed his belt to the man. "Right to the point, alright." The man said as he took the belt over to a table with different kind of cloths. "So how did this happen?"

"A thief tried to steal it." Doran said as he took a seat.

"Nast things thief's, always talking things that aren't there's." the man said as he opened a draw with different needles in it.

The man quickly got to work putting together the two pieces of the belt as the knight stood next to the man watching him work. The man seemed not to be distracted by the large knight standing next to him he just continued working. Soon after a little while he was done putting it back together, he handed it to the knight and then placed out his other hand for payment.

"Umm." The knight started as Doran walked over and gave the man some coin for his work.

The knight buckled his belt back onto his waist and followed Doran out the door back into the streets of Arrowswell. The sun was up high making the day bright and hot, yet the knight did not seem to be too distracted by the sun or the heat.

"Drink?" Asked Doran as the knight nodded following him to the local tavern.
