Chapter II
"How many days will it take to make it to Arrowswell?" Asked the knight as he and Doran road the north path leading to Arrowswell.
"On horse one and a half days roughly." Replied Doran.
The ride was long and by the time dusk came along Doran the knight and both the horses were long overdue for some rest. Off the path was a small flat spot with a couple of trees around and just enough space for the horses to stay as well.
"Let's make camp here." The knight ordered as he hoped off his horse and grabbed a rolled-up bag from his horse that the stable boy had gave him.
Doran did the same and placed his bag on the most even ground, moving some sticks and rocks from around his bag. The knight tossed his bag on the ground not giving it much thought and unrolled the bag he took of his helmet and sword, placed them next to his bag and turned away from Doran.
"Why don't you want me to see your face? You ugly or something?" asked Doran as he sat on his ragged mat and looked over at the knight.
"Quite the opposite." Replied the knight as he tried to get more comfy wearing all of his armor.
"Well guess that is that." whispered Doran as he sat back down on his mat and removed his sword from his waist as well.
The night was cold and dark, a light collection of mist went over the trail making it slightly hard to see what was out there in the woods. The knight lay there sleeping silently, not moving a muscle. Doran though was sitting up on his mat looking up at the stars. There were millions of them maybe more, and each of them had a meaning to Doran like each was something he held close to himself.
"You done staring at the stars idiot, or you going to tell them a bedtime story." Mocked the knight as he startled Doran that he was still awake at this time.
"Sorry, I thought you were sleeping." Doran replied, still looking at the stars.
"I don't sleep usually just rest with my eyes open."
"That is not creepy at all." Doran said with a slight chuckle.
"Food...Food...Food."
"Did you hear that?" asked Doran as he got up from his mat and grabbed his sword.
"It is nothing go back to be Doran." The knight said as he tried to get comfortable again.
"FOOD...FOOD...FOOD!"
"Please tell me you at least heard that." Doran announced as he buckled his sword belt around his waist and pulled out his sword.
"Yes, I did." The knight said as he grabbed his helmet and sword putting them both back on. "What is it?"
"I don't know, but where are the horses?" asked Doran as he walked over to where they had tied down the horses to find the lines bitten apart. "This is not looking too good."
"FOOD, FOOD, FOOD!"
Doran and the knight looked around their small camp and watched the woods for something out of the ordinary. The mist was making it hard for them to see but then there was a slight movement in the forest, then another and another. Jumping from the forest came five small little green creatures.
"What the fu..." said Doran as three of them jumped at him.
Doran swung his blade slicing them down knocking each of them to the ground. The knight fought off the other two and was able to cut off their limbs and their heads quickly with no waste of time. The creatures had two legs and four arms, they moved quickly and had very sharp claws on both their hands and feet. Doran killed one as he was attacked from the back having the creature stab its claws into his back.
"AHHH!" Doran yelled out in pain as the knight cut the head off the creature, having it let go of Doran and fall to the ground.
The last one jumped at them both as Doran and the knight grabbed its arms and slammed it to the ground. Doran grabbed his dagger from his side and slowly sliced the neck of the creature. Green blood was all over the knight and Doran, both of their blades were drenched in it as well. Doran dropped to the ground sitting on his knees as he slowly breathed trying to catch his breath.
"You, okay?" asked the knight as he whipped the green blood off his sword with a rag.
"I will be okay." Doran replied as he sheathed his sword and dagger.
"What were those things?" the knight continued as he asked more questions.
"Haglins, they are mutated goblins a lot more dangerous in numbers most of the time they are found in the mountains and caves." Doran answered as small drips of blood dropped from his back.
The knight placed his rag on Doran's back and applied pressure stopping the blood from running. Doran took off his chest plate and had the knight clean the wound. The knight grabbed some leaves and vines from the ground and bandaged Doran's back, stopping it from bleeding.
"Thank you." Doran shared as he turned around to see the knight already resting on his mat.
The rest of the night went by fast, the cold breeze from the fall time keeping a calm tone in the forest after the Haglins had attacked. In the morning the knight rolled up his mat, placed his helmet and sword back on and walked around then rested up against a tree as he waited for Doran to wake up. The birds chirped as the sun slowly came over the horizon lighting up the forest. Doran moved a little and sat up looking around.
"You already are packed?" asked Doran as he got his sword and wrapped it around his waist.
"Yes, the faster we get to Arrowswell the better." Replied the knight as he picked up his mat and grabbed Doran's rolled up one as well. "I will carry these you lead again."
And he did exactly that, he led them on the path out of the forest and into the plains of Crest, a large land of dead plants and rocks. The sun burned down on them as they wished for water, one of the things they lost from losing the horses. Doran kept the lead catching his breath the best he could as the leaf's and vines slowly started to slip from under his armor.
At noon the sun was at the highest point and without water both Doran and the knight's pace had slowed down greatly. Ahead of them was a collection of rocks and a small bit of water gathered from the storms. Doran fell to his knees and filled his hands full of water and drunk a large amount of it.
"You need any?" Doran asked seeing the knight was drinking the water.
"I am fine, would rather be dehydrated then drinking dirt and sand." The knight said as Doran whipped his eyes.
In front of him was just dirt and sand, there was no water. Doran spit out the dirt and sand from his mouth and got up off his knees.
"How did you know there was no water?"
"Because there was none."
They headed back onto the path and continued their long walk, there was no place to make camp anymore and the day had gone by faster than they expected. They were able to see the city but it was still from them. Then the sound of hooves hitting the ground started to grow in the distance.
"Please tell me you can hear those." Doran said a little bit sarcastic about it.
"Let's take cover." The knight said as he and Doran walked off the path and hid behind a couple of rocks.
"Onward!" they heard a man yell out as at least a dozen riders on horseback followed the trail south.
They wore the emblem of Crest on their armor and horses as well. Being soldiers of Crest but yet so far out from the city. Doran got up from the ground and yelled out to them.
"Soldiers of Crest what news from Arrowswell?" Yelled Doran as the soldiers turned around their horses and headed towards him.
The knight jumped out from the rocks and came up next to Doran hand on his sword. As the soldiers surrounded them and drew their swords.
"What business is so important to yell out at us boy?" Asked the soldier not recognizing Doran as a soldier of Crest.
"I am Doran, soldier of Crest and I would like to take a ride back to Arrowswell." Doran asked, yet it came out as if he was demanding it.
"Doran? Ah yes Doran, you are under arrest for assault of a high ranking officer." The soldier replied as he hopped off his horse and walked over to Doran with hand cuffs. "Try and resist and you will not see trial."
Doran looked confused as the soldier hand cuffed him, as the knight watched doing nothing as he was surprised at this as well. Then the knight drew his sword as the soldiers all closed in on him and placed their swords close to his neck.
"Don't try it you don't want you to end up like your friend here do you?" the soldier said in a firm tone as he threw Doran onto the back of his horse.
"I did it, I attacked the high-ranking officer." The knight shouted out as the soldiers did not look at all surprised.
"Alright then cuff yourself and get on another horse. I would rather not try and lift you onto one." The soldier answered as he looked at the knight's size compared to himself.
The knight hopped onto another horse and handcuffed himself, this was not the intended way to make it to Arrowswell but at least there was no more walking involved. Doran was hanging half and half, having the upper half of his body on one side of the horse and the other side of his body on the other side of the horse. The knight watched as they entered Arrowswell, a large metal door opened into a large open road with many different shops, houses and even stables inside the doors.
"Welcome back to Arrowswell, Doran hope you like it." The soldier said as he led the horses over to an old building with a metal reinforced door and soldiers at the door. "You will not be leaving here for a while.
The knight hopped off, and Doran was dragged off and placed onto his feet. The soldiers forced them forward through the metal doors and down a staircase into a room with a dozen different prison cells.
"Keep walking." Ordered one of the soldiers as he shoved the knight to keep him moving.
The soldiers took their weapons and placed them onto a rack then shoved them into their cells, leaving their handcuffs on. The cells were small, having a ragged down bed, a hole in the ground for waste and a small shelf. The knight lay down on his bed and looked up at the crusty brick ceiling.
"Why did you do that?" Doran asked as he leaned up against the bars looking into the knight's cell.
"Do what?" the knight replied as he turned away from Doran.
"Tell them you were one that hurt Taff?" Doran replied as he had figured out already who the soldiers were talking about.
"Oh, that was who they were talking about? Thought you had done something actually stupid." The knight laughed slightly.
"It is not funny, you took his eye."
"Lucky, I did not take his man parts as well." The knight said chuckling again.
"That is not funny." Doran said as he sat down on his bed as well.
"I never said it was."
The conversation ended there, as the soldiers walked down the stairs to check on them but that was all. The small window in the prison showed that it was still nighttime. Doran laid down turning away from the knight as he fell asleep.
"Andrion! Run! Andrion!"
"Hey! Breakfast grab it or I throw it on the floor." Said a soldier as the knight got out of his bed quickly sweating under his armor.
He took the food and placed it on the shelf, leaving it there and sitting back down on his bed. Doran was watching him as he was eating his food and smacking it very loudly.
"You almost fell of your bed last night you all good?" asked Doran as he stuffed his face again with more food.
The knight did not reply as two soldiers came over and opened up Doran's cell. Doran dropped his plate surprised at the soldiers entering his cell. The two soldiers pulled out clubs and lifted them up and struck Doran, beating him.
"Leave him alone!" Yelled out the knight as he got up off his bed quickly and looked over at the soldiers still beating him.
The knight lost it, his body pulsing with anger and rage, he broke the handcuffs off his hands and kicked his cell door off its hinges. As he walked over to Doran's cell one of the soldiers yelled out at him.
"Get back in your cell!" Ordered the soldier as he pointed his club at the knight.
"No." The knight responded as he grabbed the soldiers club and pulled it out of his hand.
The knight hit the soldier in the head knocking him to the ground, he walked over to the other one who was still beating on Doran. He hit him in the back of the knees knocking him down onto his knees. Dropping his club, the knight grabbed the soldier's arm and broke his elbow making a loud crack and small amount of blood coming out from under his armor.
"What the? Hey, get back in your cell." The other soldier said as he got off the ground and picked up a club.
The knight turned around getting off the floor, he stood one foot taller than the soldier showing his dominance. The soldier attacked the club as the knight grabbed his swing and pulled the bat away from him. The soldier threw a punch, the knight dodged to the side and grabbed the mans arm twisting it backwards and breaking both his elbow and wrist. The soldier screamed out in pain as he fell to the ground.
"You done?" the knight asked as he shoved the soldier onto his back. "I am not."
The knight smashed his knee into the mans manly parts crushing through the armor. Lifting his fists, the knight slammed down one punch after the other, breaking the armor off the head of the knight. Till all that showed was his face bruised, bleeding, and misshapen.
"What did you do?" asked Doran as he looked down at the knight who was still kneeling on the soldier.
The knight ignored him, getting off the ground and walking out of his cell. Doran tried to follow but fell to the ground still hurting from the beating he was given. The knight turned and looked back at Doran then climbed up the stairs.
"Don't leave me! KNIGHT!!!" Cried out Doran as the knight made it to the top of the stairs.
