Chapter I

Drip, drop, drip slowly the rain came down and filled the Mile River, a long draught and now the start of what looked like a storm from the north. Men, women children all locked away inside of their homes. All of them except the soldiers the men that were born and raised to fight for the land. And now it all was up to them, as the rain thickened, and dusk came close to be the fires of their enemies crossed through the river. Many men on many boats. This was it they had come to take the land, the soldiers grabbed hold of their swords tight and readied themselves. Then one of the men from the boats spoke.

"We have crossed out border only to find peace, and yet here you stand ready for a war?" The man asked, he stood tall at least six feet and had a chest the size of six full turkeys.

"You are not allowed to cross the border there are laws at play." Yelled out one of the soldiers, with a strong firm tone in his voice. "Grab your men and leave or there will be bloodshed."

"I am just wanting to have a chat with you, and you now that your laws do not apply to me or my people." The man yelled back as some of the men on the boats hopped onto shore. "If we wanted war I would make it much more clear to you."

"Then what do you want?!"

"Just one thing, the land that you hold dear. I now it is a lot to ask but I would rather talk about it then fight for it."

"What you seek we cannot give; we do not make negotiations with Raiders." Yelled out the soldier ending the conversation.

The man stood at what looked like a rested state, not scared at all of the army in front of him. Another group of Raiders came from the boats came up on shore, as one of the Raiders walked over and handed a large metal club the man in charge. Taking the club, he placed it under his arm and leaned his bodyweight on it.

"I will not leave till have what I want, so make this easy for your self's and surrender." The man said slowly getting more irritated with the soldiers.

"I told you that we cannot do that, now please take your army and leave." The soldier replied as he placed a hand on his sword.

The rain continued to thicken, and the ground slowly turned from green to brown. Still though through it all the Raiders and the man were not leaving. Soaked in rain and mud the soldiers stood as strong as they could while the weight of their armor slowly started to fell heavier. Then the sound of footsteps filled the land from behind the soldiers, as a large knight walked through there army.

He walked past each soldier like they were feathers and he was the wind shifting them to his will. Walking to the front of the soldier's army and face to face with the large Raider army, not saying a word of who or what he was.

"What is he doing?" asked multiple of the soldiers from behind him.

"So, this is your big plan send one man to face down an army? Phet you are as dumb as ever; how do you expect him to beat us all?" Yelled out the man as he pointed out his army behind him.

The armored knight walked straight in from of the man not a single drop of fear in his eyes. He stood there menacingly at the man, as he showed the man who he should be afraid of. Not the army behind him but the one man standing right in front of him.

"Come on hot shot you going to do something or wait around for a while?" The man asked as he gripped onto his club hard ready for a fight.

The knight did not reply, he did not move just stood there lifelessly. The man grew impatient and stood up from his resting position, seeing him as only being two inches taller than the knight. The knight watched as the man turned from surprised to slight bit scared.

"Alright let's see what you got." The man mocked as swung his club in a fast motion.

The knight leaned back and ducked under the club, the stood up straight and crossed his arms. The man did not find it funny and swung again, and again, and again all of the swings missing. The knight dogged them each with ease. Growing impatient the man added kicks and quicker swings yet still none of them hitting. Finally, the knight uncrossed his arms and stood there, this time ready to strike back. The Raiders on the shore stood still watching the knight take down their leader.

"I do not know who you are, but a god is not out of the question." The man scolded as he gripped his club tight, readying for the attack from the knight.

But it never came the knight did not attack just stood there showing his dominance over the man. The he stepped closer to the man, making him back up in fear.

"Again." The first word to come from the knight's mouth.

Swing after swing the man was unable to hit the knight, no matter how he attacked. Either blocked by the knights' gauntlets or him moving out of the way. This stale mate made the two armies in the background grow impatient, some of them started to move towards the other. But right when their patients were about to run out the knight landed a punch straight to the jaw of the man, having him stumble back.

"Bastard!" He yelled out as he stood his ground and charged at the knight.

The knight ducked under the attack and punched the man in the stomach. A small amount of blood rising to the man's mouth. The man turned around and attacked again, the knight dogged to the side and grabbed the club from the man and kicked him to the ground having him lose his weapon and his balance. He fell to the ground covered in mud and wet from head to toe.

"You think this is over this is far from over knight." The man said as he got up off the ground and pulled a dagger out.

The knight dropped the club and watched as the man charged him once more. He ducked under the side attack and struck him hard in the under arm, having him drop the dagger. Quickly the knight grabbed it before it hit the ground and stabbed it straight into the man's stomach. He stumbled backward, the knight watched as the man pulled the dagger from his side and held it up in the air.

"Attack." The man said as he fell to ground and his army from the shore sprinted to battle.

"Volley!" Yelled out a voice from behind the knight as a volley of many arrows came piercing down striking the first line of raiders.

Another came down taking out more of the raiders, but they just kept on coming. The soldiers that were watching raced on into the battle as the knight fought off many more than he could. Eventually the two sides were in a thick battle soldiers' verse raiders, the knight fought as well taking down as many raiders as he could.

"So this was your big plan to kill the big man and then start a battle?" Asked the same solider who was speaking out to the man.

"I did not expect the raiders to attack, more or less flee after there leader was kill." The knight replied as he blocked and incoming attack and countered it with a death blow to the raiders head.

"Well how did the work out for you." The soldier mocked as he took down two raiders with his sword.

"Did not exactly go to plan." The knight answered as another set of raiders came onto the shore. "I also did not expect there to be as many raiders as there are."

"Your plan sucks, all you have done," the soldier started as he dogged an attack making space to counter. "Is made it worse for us."

"I can see that." The knight replied as he cut off the arm of one of the raiders. "We, will need to push them back."

"I agree on that." Said the soldier as he gave an order to the men to move the raiders as far back as they could.

The men pushed them back but the rain and mud made it hard for them to do so. At the same time, it did not help the raiders either since they could not advance forward as much as they wanted to. Slowly the soldiers were able to push them far enough back to have some of the raiders retreat into their boats. But it was not enough, the raiders that stayed stood their ground and were not going down easily.

"Volley!" Yelled out the soldier fighting next to the knight as another volley of arrows came homing down on the raiders.

With no way to prepare for another volley the raiders tried to push forward but with no success. Another volley of arrows came down striking many raiders and injuring more. More raiders moved back to their boats and set up the sails and grabbed the oars. The wind was strong, the rain was splashing all around, the raiders were losing their sight and their ships started to fill with water. The raiders were standing still, most of them dead on the battlefield and others trying to flee but unable to.

"Surender, you have lost!" Yelled out the soldier as the rain slowly dripped into his armor.

The raiders looked at each other trying to figure out what to do, the soldier raised his hand and initiated another volley of arrows. The raiders ran from the arrows, their screams as the arrows hit them filled the battlefield.

"SURENDER!" The soldier yelled louder as he kept his hand raised.

Not that many of the raiders were left, some of them were able to get into the boats and leave others stuck in the water drowning from the weight of their armor. One of the raiders stepped forwards from the riverbank and placed down his sword; he went on his knees and placed his hands behind this head. Other raiders followed and soon they all surrendered knowing that they could not win.

"Round them up and execute them." The soldier ordered as some of the raiders cried, and some showed no emotion.

"What are you doing?" The knight demanded as he followed the soldier.

"I am doing what is right for the people." Replied the soldier trying to ignore the words that were coming from the knight.

"They surrendered the battle is over, you can't just execute them."

"I can do whatever the laws say I can, and by law thirteen it gives the right for the commanding soldier to choose what to do with the prisoners from war or a battle." The soldier explained to the knight.

"But they have laws to, don't they?" asked the knight not knowing too much about the laws.

"No, once they are prisoners, they have no laws and no rights to do anything."

"That does not seem fair to them."

"It is not but that is how it is, and I will not take any more questions knight." The soldier said in a firm tone.

The knight followed the soldier through the small town as he watched the other soldiers take the raiders to the execution block. Following the soldier, he eventually made it to the barracks of the town and walked on in. There was armor, shields, and weapons mounted to the walls along with a few soldiers. There was not much but it was better than nothing, the soldier took off his helmet and placed it onto the end of one of the many beds.

"Have a seat." Said the soldier as he pointed for the knight to sit at the table. "Drink?"

"No thanks." The knight replied as he stood up not taking the drink of sitting down at the table.

"I am Doran, soldier of crest and you are?" asked the soldier as he poured himself a drink and sat down at the table.

"A knight that is all you need to know." The knight replied not caring to give Doran his name.

"So, what are you doing in Crest?" Doran asked continuing with questions.

"I am looking for a man." answered the knight.

"And who might he be?" Doran continued as some more soldiers entered the room.

"He is of no concern of yours, only mine Doran." The knight snapped quickly, making his tone firmer.

"Okay, no need to get all personal it was just a question." Doran said as he drank the last drop of his drink.

"So, what is your story Doran? Born a soldier of Crest or did you choose to become one?" asked the knight as three soldiers walked on into the barracks.

"Ha," Doran laughed. "Truth is my father wanted me to be a soldier and when he pasted, I chose to honor him by becoming a soldier of Crest."

The three soldiers in the barracks walked around the room and one sat down at the table and took the drink from Doran and drank from the bottle. Wiping his lips, he cleared off the small ring of the drink he made. He sat the drink down angerly and got up looking right at the knight, then he spoke.

"What are you doing in here?" The soldier asked in a firm tone, holding the hilt of his sword.

"Doran welcomed me in for a drink." answered the knight as the soldier turned toward Doran and gave him a scowl.

"Doran is not really a soldier the man is weak, only become a soldier because his daddy died." Mocked the soldier as Doran got up from the table quickly spilling the drink.

"Don't you talk about my father that way Taff." Yelled Doran taking offence at what he had said to him.

"Sorry did not mean to bring up you and your daddy issues." Taff said again getting on the nerves of Doran.

The knight stood back trying not to escalate the problem further. Doran now had his hand placed on his sword as well, holding it tight. Taff talked more nonsense about his father and soon in a flash of time the table was flipped and both Doran and Taff had drawn their swords. The knight grabbed his but did not draw it yet, still trying not to escalate the fight anymore.

"I said not to talk about my father." Doran yelled furious at what he had said to him.

"Hit the spot, did I?" Asked Taff as Doran grew mad and gripped his sword very tight ready to lunge at Taff.

The knight pulled out his sword, standing behind them both but ready to help Doran in case he needed it. Then Doran lunged at Taff, he swung his sword with no coordination knocking Taff back slowly. Taff finally gained his balance and countered an attack; he was able to spin around Doran and shove him into the window that was right behind them. A small crack was made but the glass did not break.

"You can't win, you have never beat me what makes you think you can now?" Taff taunted as Doran attacked again.

Taff moved to the side of his attack and hit him I the chest of with the hilt of his sword. Doran tried to ketch his breath as he felt it hard to breathe. But Taff did not wait, he attacked quick. Soon he had Doran in a weak state, he grabbed him by the neck and brought him back to his feet.

"Bye." Taff said and he threw him into the window, breaking the last pieces of glass and launching Doran outside.

The knight saw this and rushed down Taff, he was able to grab him from behind and through them both threw the window. Taff was surprised at what the knight had done, he landed in a pile of mud and got up slowly as the knight walked on over to Doran.

"Get up." The knight told Doran as he gave him his hand.

Doran looked at him and waited a moment but then took his hand. The knight picked up Doran and they stood side by side. They watched as Taff picked up his sword from the mud and the other two soldiers from inside walked out the door with their swords drawn.

"We all good here?" Asked Doran as the knight handed Doran his sword back.

"No, not yet." Teff replied as his two men walked up behind him. "I am just getting started."

The men started a small fight, Doran, and the knight against Taff and his two soldiers. The people in the town came out from their homes and walked outside to see the five of them fighting. They made a circle around them watching very closely at what was happening in the middle of the town. Taff was fighting Doran and the two soldiers were fighting the knight very unmatched.

"You still think you are your fathers' heir?" Mocked Taff as he was still trying to get under the skin of Doran.

"I am, and nothing is going to change that." Replied Doran as he countered one of Taff's attacks and was able to make a small cut under his arm.

Small drips of blood hit the mud and small amounts on Doran's blade. This did not stop Taff it looked like it did nothing, he was still determined to kill him. The knight on the other hand was easily taking on the two soldiers both tiered and out of breath while the knight was untouched and not close to tiered.

Soon the knight had both of the soldiers on the ground unable to get up, he took this to his advantage and was able to turn his attention to Doran and fight Taff. Taff was under skilled to fight both at once he tried his best but his wound and the knights large amount of strength made it hard for him to get on the offensive. Eventually Taff as able to kick Doran back making space between them having time to attack the knight one on one.

"What does this man mean to you, you have only just met him." Asked Taff as his and the knights swords slashed together.

The knight grunted, not answering the question. He dislodged the two swords and came up onto the offensive knocking Taff back with each hit. Doran rushed back into the fight onto to get kicked in the stomach knocking the wind out of him. The knight continued the offensive not given Taff any chances to counter or even block correctly.

Taff was getting scared fear was in his eyes as one of the knights attacks landed, making a small cut on his right shoulder. He grasped his shoulder but shrugged it off continuing to fight. Doran was able to get ketch his breath and get back into the fight. Together again, they were able to knock back Taff more and more until he tripped and fell onto the ground.

"I yield, I YIELD!" Taff yelled out as the knight placed his sword on his neck.

"He yields that is it." Said Doran to the knight as he grabbed his shoulder having him look at him.

The knight and Doran walked away from Taff, the knight not even dropping any sweat under his armor while Doran was lightly panting.

"You still think you are better hu? You think you deserve to were the Emblem of Crest, no you are just a fraud a nobody." Taff yelled at them as he got up off the ground. "You don't even have the guts to kill your bully." He laughed as he spit blood into the mud and stood there mocking them.

The knight turned around hand on his sword, he walked over to Taff as Doran tried to stop him but with no success. He shrugged off Doran and drew his sword walking straight over to Taff gripping the sword hard.

"Ha, what you going to have your muscle man here kill me." Taff laughed as the knight lifted his sword and swung down a slash of blood fell from Taff's face as he fell to the ground.

"You try and fight us again I will take your other eye." Said the knight as he walked away from Taff, having Doran gasping at what had just happened.

"I... am going to kill you mark my word you will not live to see another day!" Yelled Taff as he held his hand over his eye.

"I doubt that." Mocked the knight with his back turned to Taff.

The knight and Doran walked away from Taff and headed into the town's tavern, both sat down at the front bar and asked for their drinks. Doran did not speak, still displeased with the knight of what he had done to Taff.

"If you have something to say, just say it." The knight said, starting a conversation.

"I... why did you do it? You did not half to why did you?" Asked Doran as the knight lifted the bottom of his helmet and took a swig of his drink.

"At least I did not kill him."

"Neither are a good thing knight, you did not half to do it." Doran said slamming his drink on the bar's counter.

"Calm down, you should be glad that he is hurt he won't get in our way." The knight replied as he finished his drink and got up from the bar.

"Our way? What do you mean?" Doran asked as he got up quickly got up from the bar and followed the knight.

"Seeing as how you followed me into the tavern I took it as you were coming with me to find the man I need to kill."

"You said it was no concern of mine though?" Doran remembered as he followed the knight out the door.

"Well if you keep on following me, it will be."

The knight walked down to the stables, Doran close behind. The midnight air was cold and damp, the rain had turned most of the streets into mud. At the stable stood a stable boy standing there holding a pitchfork, he was not that old, definitely on the younger side of age.

"What would you like?" asked the boy as he leaned up against his pitchfork.

"We would like to buy two of your best stallions." Replied the knight as the kid looked surprised at what he had said.

"Really?" The boy's voice turned from grumpy and rugged to a way more happy and joyful tone.

"Yes, now please bring them over to us and we will be on our way." The knight said, as that little bit of happiness and joy the boy felt left his body.

"You are not going to rob me of these creature, I have to see your coin first." The boy ordered as the knight looked confused.

"How much for the two horses?" Doran asked, stepping in to help the knight.

"Fifteen coins, each." The boy demanded as he put out his hand for the coin.

"Here." said Doran as he gave the boy thirty coins and followed him to the back where they could grab their horses.

Doran and the knight grabbed the rains for the horses and had the stable boy help lead them to the road. Doran said thank you to the boy and gave him two more coins for his help and then hopped onto his horse same as the knight.

"Where are we heading?" asked Doran as he looked over at the knight on his horse.

"Were do you go to get information about people?" the knight replied with a question as he looked at Doran for the answer.

"Arrowswell the capital of Crest they have a large trade center there, could have someone that could help us."

"Then that is where we head, you lead." Said the knight pointing forward for Doran to lead.
