The Smell

(Y/N) POV

"Stop....go away," I hear a voice from behind me. I'm laying on my side and Lisa is thrashing around

I rub my eyes as I look toward her

"No....don't go," she says as I notice her pillow has wet spots from tears...and they only started to flow more until a steady stream seeped from her face and into the pillow.

Poor girl...must be a nightmare. I crawl quietly toward her as I rub her back. I remember when I was younger, my mother would always do this when I was upset.

It didn't come fast...but she eventually calmed down and was silent after sobbing for a few minutes.

I yawn as I sit back from her. I sat quietly until sunrise, not able to get any sleep after what had happened

Lisa finally showed some evidence of being aware as she sat up and rubbed her eyes

"Good morning," she says sounding relieved

"Did you have a good sleep?" I ask as she nods

"Oh man, that's the best sleep I've had in ages," she says smiling. Her face just glows with joy

I chuckle, "I thought you'd be cranky, after all, you were distressed for a good amount of the night," I tell her

"Yea, I was having a nightmare...but then it turned into a nice one..." she says

"Well, that's good," I say as I ask what the task for today is

"We are set to watch over the church," she says

"That creepy place again," I complain as she laughs

"You don't like it?" She asks

"I hate churches... a bunch of greedy assholes," I mutter as she smiles

"Were you not religious? I mean, it was a common thing in your era," she asks

"I'm a catalyst for Nature...I don't see a reason as to why I should bow to those lesser to me," I say with hatred in my voice...there's another reason...but I see no reason to share if I don't need to

"I guess," she mutters as she gets dressed and we leave

"I guess I just realized...I don't know much about you," Lisa says as we walk toward the church

"Someone like the King is much more interesting then I," I say as she disagrees

"I think there's more hiding under that armour," she speculates

"Same could be said for you," I say as she compelled brushes off my words

"Say? Did you have any lovers?" She teases

"I'm afraid not," I say as she frowns

"Not one?" She asks again

"Perhaps there is one," I mutter as her eyes light up

"And it's on my back," I say referring to my Longsword as shed frowns

"That's boring," she mutters as I prove my case. The King's life is much more interesting.

"Finally," I say as we reach the church.

"So how long must we wait?" I ask as I find a good scouting point

"All night," she says

"I have a feeling something is gonna happen," she says as I nod...nothing did...In fact, it was so boring, Lisa fell asleep on my shoulder.

Unlike my young master, I have much more experience keeping a lookout for things...and I thought the night would be uneventful....until I smelled death...no not death...but someone nearing death.

I look around until I see a man limping toward the church. I kept an eye on him as he opened the churches door...and due to my attention on my sense of smell...it was bombarded by the terrible smell of a corpse...this was the smell of death

It's coming from inside of the church...and the man who opened the door noticed too...but he entered anyway.

It wasn't long after before a woman walked toward the door...the smell...was even closer to death then the man was. When I heighten my senses, I can smell when someone is near death...one of the many gifts Mother Nature has given me...and this woman was knocking on death's door.

Something sparked inside of me. Something always sparks inside of me. The smell got worse and worse...she entered the building. And sadness arose...great sadness...and anger

I suddenly shot up from the place I had been sitting and sprinted toward the church

"This is a bad idea!" I tell myself as I reach the church's door. The smell of a corpse grew stronger as I saw the woman holding the body of a man...the man who had entered the churches not long before she did was standing in front of her. His face was scared...his face was paralyzed with the emotion of being hated

"You had to kill him right in front of me," the lady says on the brink of tears...she was sad...she felt lonely...as for the man, he was misunderstood. I could feel anger swelling inside of him. And his intent was something he would surely regret

I walked down the church slowly, making sure not to disrupt the conversation

"What do you know about love," she says

Finally, he snapped. He tackled the woman as he held his hands against her throat...denying any passage of air. I was quick to react as I wrestled him off her as she chocked for fresh air

"Your wrong!" He screams

"I do love someone!" He continues as his eyes tear up. I felt it...this man cared for the lady in front of him...and the lady clearly loved the man who was on the floor....dead

"Calm down, you're doing something you will regret," I say as he stops struggling and slumps to the ground limply

I turn to my attention to the woman, who had to regained her breath and went back to holding the dead man on the ground. She eyed the man with hatred...unfounded hatred.

"He didn't kill him," I say as she looks at me

"What do you mean?" She asks as I get the feeling of being lost getting emitted by her

"That guy has been dead for a while...a night or two I would guess. He only arrived a minute before you did," I tell the lady as her attention turns back to the man who looks at me.

"Is that true?" She asks him not believing it...

"It is," he says as I feel any ill intentions fade away...no there are others

I look up the church at a balcony that overlooks the main hall. Two figures stand watching. One was a human...the other a spirit.

"Are you the two who set up this ridiculous scene," I say as the one figure looks at me

"You dare glance up to me and scold me," he says as I recognize who he was...Archer...the so-called the King of Kings. And also One of the heroes who lectured my King.

"You mongrel," he says as I spot a sword coming my way. I easily block it as Archer raises his eyebrow

"Shall we fight?" He asks

"Do not wish to fight...but if you ask, I shall," I say holding my ground

"That king of yours did one thing right...she made sturdy Subjects...I shall leave for now... Next time you will fall," he says as he disappears along with the human

"Good grief," I say as I look at the body on the ground. The girl was still holding him. I looked at the man...and he looked rough. I can see the bugs that roamed his body

From I could see, he wouldn't live much longer...his soul seems decent...given that he isn't guided off the path that is called life, jewill be a good man

"Do you wish to live?" I ask him as he looks at me confused

"Huh?"

"Do you wish to live past the year?" I ask as he nods not very confidently

I take my sword and warn him

"This may hurt a bit," I say as I poke him with my blade. Nothing happens at first. But then, his face goes from one of pain to relief. And I noticed that his white-hair turned to black

I just now noticed the appearance of everything. The church was decorated. And the man was wearing a hoodie. And the woman had long black hair and was more stylish with her clothes

She eyed me with wonder

"Can you revive him?" She asks in a shaky voice

"No, I can't revive those who have been dead for more then a couple of hours," I tell her as she looks down

The man, with newly found vitality, approaches her, and they embrace. She cries and he comforts her.

"Good eye," Lisa says as she arrives at the church

"Yea," I say as I look at the pair of friends

"Reminds me of my parents," she says as she takes a step forward

"Are you two alright?" She asks as they nod

I notice the command seal on the man's hand

"Are you a master?" I ask as he looks at me

"Yes...I'm a master,"
