He closed and opened his eyes as a gesture of relaxation from prolonged reading and removed his glasses putting it in its case...
His hands automatically found its way to his hair rumpling it in the name of arranging it...
After a minute of lean back, He got up adjusting his teal blue tee and the white cargos slinging a gaze at the one who was seated opposite to him...

There she was...
Her floral top paired with blue jean gave a fresh as a daisy look without a doubt...
She looked like a beautiful blooming bouquet of flowers...

He pretended to arrange things infront of him waiting for her to look up with a chant "Look at me! Look at me!"...

In sometime, she too got ready to leave slipping her glasses to her shoulder bag and pulling up her thick tresses into a high ponytail...
Her dainty fingers adjusted the little smudged khol out of her eyes and grabbed the shoulder bag getting to her feet...

And the chant worked...
She looked at him straight and held the gaze...
As her bouncy eyes met his breezy look, a instant curve adorned their lips which was very well cloaked by the vizard which has became a part and parcel of everyone's life since the pandemics...
It was just the half of the face that was visible...
But their eyes held everything their face had hidden...

They paused for a second...
Their tranquil orbs reminded the serenity of the deep blue sea that veils the clangour inside its calmness..
They could get the adios bid by the eyes and moved to the reception to sign out for the day...

As they waited, they heard a person speaking to another in a soft but clear voice...

" Moonu naalu leave ah...
Yepadi than veetukula adanju kedakaratho...
Hmmm yepadiyo intha kirumi ku yetho maruntha kandu pidichutaanga...
apadiye atha potu, marundhu velai seiya arambichuduna appuram intha mugamoodi, kiruminaasini elam olinjudum...
Yellam antha bhagavaan karunaila sikiram nadakanum...
Yellam palaya nilamaiku poganum...

Athu pothum...
Aandava..."

Yes...
That was a talk about the killing corona, the lockdown, the medications and following that how life will be back to normal...

Having finishing the signing out formalities, they moved out of the place singly but still together...

"Yellam palaya nilamaiku poganum...
Yellam palaya madhiri aaganum..."

The voice ringed in their ears making them shudder a little...
Their heart played its freaking imaginations as a scene in front of them while the mind started acknowledging it callously with ruthless dialogues...

"Palaya madhiri"...

It hit them in the right place...

That person meant the Life before the deadly virus...
Life before pandemics...
Life before lockdown...

If the life turns the so said "palaya madhiri", they would never meet eachother...
Their life would never have thr other...
How would it be...
They couldnt even imagine...

Hmmm...
But they had a beautiful life even before...
It cant be gainsaid...
It was changed post lockdown just like it was for every single soul out there...

And...

In their life, Pushing all things aside....

A beautiful thing shaped up...

Their meeting...

How and where did it happen...
Was it love at first sight...
What they think of the other...
What do they mean to eachother...

And truth is that even they dont have answer for those questions...

Can we find the answers for these on behalf of them if we knew what happened between them...

Back to the lockdown days...

It was the time after the complete lockdown when the restrictions were getting loosened up but still things were not back to normal...

Being sick of staying home alltime with the same monotonous lifestyle, both woke up the reader in them and pushed the reader to the library in the area...
Surprisingly they choose the same time...
It was post lunch, they found their way to the library every day for 3 solid hours...

Yes...
That was a place they met first...

So Was it love at first sight...
Hilarious...
Definitely a big no...
Initially other than a person who drops by the same time, they knew nothing about the other and was not interested too...
They would cross eachother with a head nod as a acknowledging gesture...

After few days...
They took seats opposite to eachother always...

Out of love???
Nope...

With no air conditioners on, they had to get hold of the place near window to beat the afternoon heat and eventually it became their place...

Did they have mesmerizing eyelocks and oozing chemistry between them...
Funny...
Damn all...

Did they have same wavelength that brought them close...
Same taste...
Same thoughts...
Same ideas...
Same opinions...
Nix...

When she was melting over Barbara Cartland, he would be moulding himself with Bharathiyaar Kavithaigal...

When she lived with Ponniyin selvan, he would be dwelling in plays of Shakespeare...

When she drove herself to the felicitous world of fairytales, he was drowned in the serious biographies of important persons...

Was it just books that differed...

It was something more...

When her eyelids blinked and battled  beautifully for every single word she read, his eyelids would brilliantly beat the emotions that try coming out...

When her eyes would tear up for a heartwrenching read, he would arrest it with a tough expression...

When her brows dance dreamily with her mood, his brows would be crumpling with concentration...

In short, they were antipodal...

And they knew it...
By the books they read...
By the emotions which the eyes exhibited...
By the language which their body spoke...
By the attitude which they showed...

So they knew about the other but not on whole...

Slowly things changed...
They would drop in by same time...
They would park their bikes in adjacent place...
They would take their usual seats...
They would indulge in reading...
They would throw glances in between on the other...
They would leave by sametime...
Thats it...
3 long months...
It was the same...

Did they exchange contact numbers...
No...
Did they have a hearty chat...
No..
Did they share few words...
No...
Did they take any steps to know eachother...
No...

Come on....
So What did they have between them...

They were not in love...
They didnt know what relationship they are in...
They didnt know how much they mean to each other...

It was just a "can't be named" feeling...

That can only be read through eyes...
That can only be felt through heart...
That can only be understood by mind...

They clinged to that feeling and kept going...

We are back now...

So do we have the answers for the questions now...

The 3 months silence came to an end...
Cant deny the fact that they got scared...
Questions kept popping up...
What if life reverts back to previous stage before pandemics...
What if they get busy in their day today work...
What if they dont meet hereafter...
What if they were just passers by in other's life...
They started choking with some unpleasant feeling...

They stepped to the parking as always with a decent distance and hopped into their respective vehicles exchanging a head nod...
The two pair of orbs that moved to the road after the nod glued to eachother in a wink of time...
The vehicles that started never moved instead went into standby again...

So it begins...

"Hoiiii...", He exclaimed as eyes crinkled with a smile...

"Heyyyy...", She acknowledged flapping her lids curiously...

"Iam Kathir... Kathirvel Pandian...", He introduced him with a hand in air for hand shake...

"Iam Mullai... Mullai Murugan...", She stepped forward shooking hands to complete the introduction...

"Hmmm... haan... library is off for next 3 days... so... how about...hmmm... a coffee now... if u r free and ok...", He initiated with a freaking surprise about his one self...
Oh my gosh... He is asking a girl for a date...
Oh man... Off course... It is supposed to be a girl...
His mind mocked him....
But...

"Damn 3 days... ", she said to herself and agreed instantly with a disbelief about her own acceptance making him grin wider...
"Yeh... ok..."

"So CCD???... Can you???", Kathir gestured to join her in his bike...

"Hey.. this is too fast..." Mullai replied with a amused pout...

"Its 3 months already and you say its fast... funny... Right... See you there...", He started his bike just to stopped with her "Hey" and he turned to her..

Mullai muttered under her breath with a sarcastic smile, " Bharathiyar Kavithaigal padikara paiyanuku Tamizh pesa varatho... "

"Ponniyin selvan rasikara ponnukum tamizh pesa varalaiye... athu madhiri than...", He twisted the game towards her with tongue on cheeks...

"Oh apadi... "

"Yes... ok... See you there...haaannn... Manikavum... Angu santhikalam kanmani...", He left the place with a wink ignoring her stunned "WHAAAT"...

Mullai stood rooted hearing the call "kanmani" for sometime and got reminded of the name that popped into her mind everytime she see him..
With a blushing smile, she quickly joined him soon at CCD...
By the time ,she reached kathir had already found a secluded place for them and was searching the menu..

As she dropped in..
"Order panitu vanthudalama kanmani", he asked...

"Whats that kanmani... Iam mullai...", she tried to sound curt...

"Athu unnoda nija peyar...hmmm... idukuri peyar nu sola mudiyaathu... athum karana peyar madhiri than iruku... aana intha kanmani enaku mattumana karana peyar..."

"Omg... theriyama tamil varatha nu kettuten... un tamil arivai kamichathu pothum...", Mullai bowed her hands above her head with a laugh...

"Antha bayam irukatum... So order panalama..."

"Hmmm... enaku Oru Venilla cappuccino... unaku..."

"I am not a coffee person kanmani... so enaku oru masala chai..." , he said confirming the order and they returned to their table...

"So...", She kicked off...

"So...", He  rode along...

"Athena kanmani..."

"Sonane karana peyar..."

"Athan yena karanam nu kekaren...", mullai forced...

"Udane yepadi solrathu.. ipo than eh vanthurukom... porumai porumai..."

"Ok veer...", she gave in with a mesmerizing smile...

"Hoi... athena veer..."

"Karana peyar... but ipove karanam sola mudiyaathu..."

"Oh... Apadi apadi..."

They shared a subtle laugh at the play and proceeded further...

"So...", She started again...

"So... what do u do... i mean by profession... student or working..."

Mullai replied with a fond smile reminded of her job...," I am a teacher.."

Seeing his eyes pop up in surprise, she snapped in midway...

"Hey... teacher nathum Kaaka kaaka jho range ku 12th maths, physics nu nenachudathe... I teach for Kinder garden... en cousins kuda senthu playschool nu onnu run panren... Little sunshine playschool adyar la... Theriyuma..."

"Hey sorry kanmani... theriyala...
Wow... So you are not only a teacher... oru school oda principal kuda ah... very nice girl...", he beamed in appreciation....

"Hey veer... avalo elam scene illaa.. now its a small school.. just 70 students and athum moonu per partners... but over time neraya develop pananum... miles to go..."

"70  700, 7000 aga my hearty wishes... you can do it kanmani... all the best...."

"Nandri veer...",

" Hoi... btw Kutti kutti kulanthaingala samalikara velai romba kashtam ache... yepadi intha platform choose pana..."

"Enaku kids na romba romba pidikum... yepavum kids kudaye irukanum nu romba aasai... life yepavum happy ah cheerful ah irukume nu... just thought about this... work out agum nu thonichu... veetulayum support pananga... akkas join panikitanga... so apadiye i started and now running it... ", she said with a contended smile...

" Nice to know... so ipo schools closed illaa..."

"Hmmm lockdown nala schools closed... morning online classes edukanum... appuram free... so afternoon inga varuven...", she added...

"Oh.... Athan panjathantra stories elam padicha kadhai ah"

"Yupp... athe than..."

As he hmmmed, she enquired about him....

"So what are you doing..."

"Hmmmm... na unkuda kadalai potuturuken kanmani...", kathir answered with a smirk...

"Very funny... bayangarama sirichuten...",mullai faked a hearty laugh...

"Haan... sirichathu pothum... btw enakum unna madhiriye kolanthaingana romba pidikum... athunala... "

Mullai caught his look with ebbing naughtiness..., "athunala... "

"Athunala wait kanmani... solren..."
(With a wink) I am a football player cum coach... I own a coaching centre... peru KM football academy... in indira nagar... Its mainly for kids... Athan sonnen i too love kids nu... convinced???" ,He questioned...

"Pretty much..." She replied with a "I caught you" look... " so ithu than Ronaldo oda biography elam padicha kadhai ah..."

"Yes... athe than..."

Before he completed, she squealed in excitement...

"Hey veer... So you are in team... i mean district level or state level.... ipadi..."

"Yes... state level...", he said with a subtle smile...

"Hey... I am with a state level football player... my god... nambave  mudiyala... Sorry sorry... enaku football pathi suthama theriyathu... athan unna kandupidikala..."

"Hoiii... ithula yena iruku... India la cricket thavira yentha sport kum yaarum perusa importance kudukarathu illaa... even therinjukarathu kuda illaa... it happens... Iam used to it..."

"Sorry sorry... Inime neraya importance kudukaren... neraya therinjukaren...", she suppressed a naughty grin looking at his puzzled look and added...

"Hmmm... football pathi sonnen veer..."

" Athane paathen... athukula pickup agiducho nu..." catching her so called miffy look
"naanum football ah sonnen kanmani..." making her laugh...

" Na unna romba serious and reserved type nu nenachen...", she mumbled with a pout...

"Appearances are deceptive kanmani..."

"Unna nallavan nu kuda than nenachane..."

"Hoi... nan nallavan than ma...nambu...", he said rolling his eyes...

"Nambitten... nambitten... aama athena KM..."

"KM theriyaathu???" , he voiced out surprisingly as if she was so naive...

"Theriyaathe... whats that... KM na avalo famous ah yena..."

"Hmm world famous nu vechukoyen..."

"Really... sari apadina yena... atha sollu mudhala..." , She pestered more...

"K for kathir... M for malli... Malliga..."

She hide the little disappointment hearing a girl's name and tried to be normal...,
"Malliga yaaru... mom or sister???"

"No no... amma peru lakshmi... na ore paiyan...brothers sisters yaarum illaa..."

"Oh fine... Appo malliga???"

"Ennoda lover... athan KM... yepadi iruku.... "

Before he completed,  her eyes snapped him reflexively with a pique as if there was a pinprick in heart...
Though he got it so well, he didnt try to chill her and continued to irritate as much as he could...

"Super ah iruku illaa combination.... KM kathir malli... enaku romba pidichurunthuchu... life long kuda vara pora per ache...  athan rendu peraiyum sethu arambichen... nalla iruka..."

When his heart was admiring her irritation, his mind was pondering why is he playing such a game with a girl who he had just started speaking and why he badly want her to get possessive on him...
Why does his insides jump out of joy seeing her aloof reaction...
Isnt it funny...
Supposed to be silly too...

On the other hand though irritated like hell with the things told by him, mullai's heart questioned why do u care if he has a lover or even a wife...
She kept reminding that they just started speaking and he doesnt mean anything to her...
Whatever told, she couldnt help the sudden sulky mood she jumped into...

In a snap, they felt they were midway hanging in a cliff with eyes full of confusion about their own self....
Unable to behold her silence, kathir stopped the play...

"Hoi... malliga nalla illaiyo... how abt malar... malar ku vechupoma..."

"What... vechupoma ah... appo chumma soniya...", her orbs glistened in a zing...

"hmmmm... aalu iruku nu sonna perumaiya irukume nu sonnen.... mathapadi na morattu single... sorry sorry pakka soft single na paathukoyen..., he declared the most wanted statement...

"Athu sari... appo antha KM la M yaaru...", she badgered again as if it means a lot to her...

"En friend Mathan... naanga rendu perum senthu than academy run panrom... but he is not a fulltime intha field la illaa... He s a software person..."

"Nice... nice... nee full time ithula than na you will have a bigtime dream about this illaa..."

"Yes... than a team player, i love coaching kids... i have plans to start branches of this academy all over chennai... paakalam...  whats in store for me..."

"Thats really sweet of you... kandipa chennai yena all over india unga KM academy  establish agum... My best wishes...", she wished him wholeheartedly bringing him all smiles...

"Thank you kanmani..."

"Welcome veer..."

"Sir... your order", Server dropped with their order...

They thanked him and gazed at eachother electrified by the moment...
They had to remove the masks to proceed with their beverages...

And...
It was a stagy thing...
Out of the ordinary,  they had never seen the other with no masks till date...
It was only the eyes they looked upon always...
Never ever once they got a feel to advance further...
They were contented with the way their eyes took charge of everything...

May be they believed Eyes were the window to the soul and they reached it already...
Maybe thats where they got the comfort and cosiness in other's company...
A relationship cant end with just comfort and cosiness...
It demands more...

So now its time for the veil to be unveiled...

They removed the masks and started sipping the drink but ended up in drinking eachother through eyes...
They could feel raised bumps on skin...
They could hear the palpitating heart beat...
They could taste the sweetness of the moment allthrough the drink...

In a word, they were just blissed out over the moon...

A screeching ring of mullai's mobile brought them back to world...

"Maaa... anga than iruken... vanthudaren... oru 30 minutes... dont worry... bye..." , she ended the call looking at kathir...

"Yena kanmani... library la iruken nu soniya..."

"Yes... munna pinna theriyaadha aaloda coffee sapida vanthen nu therinja i am done... yena pana... my first lie...", she mumbled sheepishly...

" hmmm..."

They continued with their drink leaving a shield of silence around...
Kathir seemed to be chiped away a little compared to the previous moments...
Before mullai could react to it, he pounced back to normal...

In no time, He lounged forward and caught hold of her hands in his grip with a fierce daze...

"Ok kanmani... lets get it straight... First lie ah last lie ah maathidalama..."

"Athu yepadi..."

"Shall we get married???", kathir asked in a playful voice in contrast to his stern looks...

Mullai whipped her hand out with a screech..., "Whaaatttttt..."

"Dum dum dum kalyanam... hey kanmaniku Tamizh la sona than puriyum illaa.... right...
Naam iruvaarum thirumanam seithu kolalaama..."

"Hey... coffee kudikalam nu kutitu vanthu enna vechu comedy panitu irukiya... pothum ya... mudiyala",

"Hoi... Do you think its fun... sathiyama illaa... I always go by instinct... athana ponnunga library ku vanthum enaku unna than paakanum nu thonichu... ithana naal illama iniki than unkuda pesanum nu thonichu... now intha marriage proposal... ipove pananum nu thonichu... my instincts never failed me... so do this...", he cleared his thoughts for her and in turn for him...

"Hey nan... enaku... ipadi thidirnu ketta yepadi...", mullai struggled to form words...

"Onum avasaram illaa... time eduthuko... yosichu sollu..."

"Hmmm..."

There was a pause in their talks as there came a call for kathir...
Mullai was totally lost in thoughts and couldnt think straight about the ones he said...
She liked him...
But to the next stage...

"Hoi... yosichitiya kanmani... what's your answer...", he came back again from his call...

"Ada paavi... time eduthuko nu solitu udane kekare..."

"See the log... 3 minutes call pesiruken... isn't it enough for you... neraya time than eh..."

See... na onum plan panitu vanthu kekala... just a second... thonichu kettuten... enaku oru 3 seconds pothuma irunthuchu... unaku 3 minutes paathatha...", he reasoned childishly...

"Hey... wait... wait... this is too fast for me... unaku enna pathi onum theriyaathu... ennakum unna pathi onum theriyaathu... just paathurukom... avalo than eh... per kuda iniki than theriyum... ipo kalyanam elam yepadi mudiyum..."

"Hmmm... yellam mudiyum... just imagine... namma veetula nammaku kalyanathuku paakaranga... we both meet as bride and groom...

"Pardon...", she grinned naughtily...

"Athu sari... appuram vera yetha iruka...."

He replied coolly ignoring her sarcasm...
"Hmmm appuram....
Athe madhiri naanum ipadi oru azhagu pettagathukita mothama vilunthu ok solidaren..."

"Hey... intha Paartha mudhal naale story elam venam... namma kadhai ku vaa..."

"Illaa antha madhiri pona yena nu sola vanthen... arrange marriage madhiri methuva orutharai oruthar therinjupom... purinjupom... why dont we start like that..."

"Ne panra imagination la oru periya ootai iruku... appo nammaku eachother theriyaatiyum families will know eachother...
Ippo madhiri illaa... we hardly know eachother... families kum theriyaathu... ooru, peru, yethume theriyaathu... yen oru phone number kuda theriyaathu...", mullai started putting down all points together...

"So thats your problem... wait let me solve it for you...", rubbing his beard...

Kathir took her mobile from the table in a wink and made a call to his number startling her with his antics...

"You look gorgeous in this picture kanmani...", he uttered with pure admiration looking at the dp and got back to his talking mode...
" Yes done... Now we have our numbers... Fine than eh... ooru, peru elam phone la pesikalam..."

"Hey You are crazy yaar... completely crazy...", mullai muttered unable to conceal her smile...

"Always I have been... Thank you... So your answer...", he urged...

"Hey thirumba thirumba kekare... its not our decision alone... veetula yena soluvanga... unna avangaluku pidikanum illaa... athelam yosika mattiya..."

"So you are ok... family than problem... Got it..."

He ignored her "Omg" and continued...
"Enna yaarukum pidikaama poga chance illaa... en family um kandipa pidikum... maybe en profession avangaluku satisfying ah illama irukalam... Athuku..."

Mullai interrupted in the middle, "Appo enakaga football ah vidu na vituduviya..."

"Football ah thooki mandailaiye poduven... unna un school ah enakaga vitutu vaa na vituduviya..."

As she nodded negatively, he continued...
" Athe madhiri than... en passion, en ambition, en dreams are always mine... same applies to you too... kalyanathuku appuramum eachother support panalam but no interference... ipove soliten... manasula vechuko..."

"Nalla than pesare... but en veetula othukalaina yena panuve...", she didnt know she was bringing down her own heart's fear...

"You take it chill... na vanthu veetula pesaren... or maybe it doesnt sound so nice right... En appa amma vanthu unga veetula pesa solren... that would be better... unaku en appa, amma paathi theriyaathu... pesiye correct paniduvaanga... they are experts in that..."

"Unna madhiri ah...", mullai suppressed her smile...

"Appo ne correct agite nu solriya", he was not ready to leave the last word...

"Omg... veer... you are unbelievable..."

"Yes I am..."

"Hey un appa amma ku enna yepadi pidikum... vanthu pesuvanga nu confident ah solre..."

"En kanmani ah yaarukaavathu pidikaama poguma..." ,his voice melted...

"Omg... unkita ipadiye pesitu iruntha you will give me a impression as if we are in love for years together... na kelambaren..."

Mullai got up shooking her head with a blushing smile just to be caught by kathir...
She sat unknowingly moved by his intense look...

"Answer venum kanmani...", he came to the start again...

"See veer...  enaku... enaku udane sola varala... konjam nervous ah iruku... i cant deny... yes i like everything happened here... ne pesinathu... ne sonathu.. yellame... aanalum konjam confusing ah iruku... ithu love proposal kuda illaa... marriage proposal... athu... hope you understand..."

"Apadi than irukum... pasanga madhiriye ponnunga iruka mudiyaathe... so ok...
Three months ah paathutu irunthom... Three seconds la proposal... then three minutes time for your answer... athu unaku pothala... so lets take another 3 days or 3 weeks... illaa venam... oru 3 months... not more than that... athukula enaku ok solidu... fine now???"

"Mudhala answer sollu nu sonna... ipo ok sollu nu solre.... ok what if my answer is negative... kai kuluki friends ah pirinjudalama...", she poked....

"Athu ne no nu sonna paakalam kanmani..."

Kathir uttered with utmost confidence and that was enough to make her fall for him...

"Yena confidence... aama ithelam love ah...."

He just hmmmed...

"Vaaya thiranthu sola maatiya...", she yearned for more...

"Solava..."

"Venam... na kelambaren...",she escaped....

"Fine kanmani..."

They got back their masks and moved out of the coffee shop back to their vehicles...
As they were about to start...,

"Ipovaathu kanmani oda peyar karanam therinjukalama..."

"Therinjukalam... namma kalyana medai la...", Kathir winked...

"Kandipa therinjukalam veer", she returned the wink and drove away giving him a beautiful reply...

Now...

Their first date ended so well in high spirits...
So was the following 3 months...
It glided away like a beautiful fairy tale...
At the end of 3 months, without a doubt mullai gave her whole hearted acceptance...

What next...

In 3 days, their parents were informed about their relationship...
In 3 weeks,  they got engaged...
In 3 months, they got married...

So where are we now...

In the marriage hall...
Its 3 minutes to their wedding...
Kathir and Mullai were busy performing the rituals and then...

"Kanmani... unn peyar karanam solava...", his orbs penetrated into hers forgetting the other people around...
Unable to form a word, she nodded her head...
