Office

So I woke up at three a.m. and now it's five and I still haven't fallen back asleep. So I decided to pull out my phone and write this lol.

I quickly slipped into the elevator, giddy as I pressed the button for second floor. It was officially my third day of working here. A company that sells and invests in modern tech.

The pay is fantastic, I get my own desk, and the people are amazing. All I have to do is fill out paper work!

I straightened my tie. 'I should be the kind of person who brings coffee. No, wait, we already have a coffee machine. Donuts! Plus it's cheaper.'

The doors opened and I stride out. After clocking in, I sit at my desk and pull out my laptop. Everything was in place and I quickly scan the office. About three dozen would be plenty.

I looked to see no one was at the coffee machine so I stood up to get some. This place is fantastic and it's only day three! I slid a mug under and set the small cup in. It began to dispense and I quietly tapped my fingers happily.

Someone walked up to the counter pulling out a mug of their own. "Morning," I turned to him with a smile.

"Uh, morning," he said caught off guard.

He looked to be my age, a little shorter than me, and his hair was dark but slightly longer pulled into a low loose ponytail. "I'm Lance." I held out my hand.

"Keith." He shook it.

"Oh! Oh, you're my boss!" My eyes went a little wide.

"Yeah, I guess," he chuckled, "are you new here?"

"Third day." I pulled my mug out and took out the plastic cup tossing it. "Here, let me." I put in a new cup of grounds and took his mug sliding it under.

"Thanks," He leaned against the counter.

"How do you take your coffee?" I asked as it finished dispensing.

"Cream and sugar." Keith yawned.

"Tired?" I asked dumping in the sweetener and mixing it with a wooden stir stick.

"Yeah," he nodded, "Shiro gave me a huge project. I was working on it all night."

"Shiro?" I handed him his coffee.

"Bigger boss." He took a sip. "Also my brother."

"Your brother is your boss?" I asked taking a sip of my black coffee.

"Yeah, sucks too. It means he's not afraid to dump work on me." He chuckled rolling his head back to stretch out his neck.

I felt myself stare longer than appropriate and I glanced down at my mug. "Sounds like brothers. I love my siblings, but I'd strangle them if they were my coworkers."

"I've considered it," He laughed, "but he controls my pay." Suddenly his eyes widened at the time on the microwave. 7:58. "Oh shit I'm gonna be late for a meeting!" He nearly spilled his coffee as he sped out of the room. He poked his head back in, "It was nice meeting you."

I chuckled to myself and took a sip of my coffee. Day three and I found my office crush. The Pam to my Jim.

I sat back down at my desk and began to fill out paperwork.

Finally it was time to clock out and I began to pack up my things. I joined two women in the elevator and they looked at me and giggled. Is something on my face?

I saw Keith heading down the hall for the elevator with a bag on his side with his laptop and work. I reached out and held the doors.

"Thanks," He stepped in and stared forward with a tight grip on the strap of his bag.

Why does he have to be so cute? And I never thought I could be so attracted to forearms. His white button up shirt had his sleeves rolled up to his elbow, it was practically teasing me at this point. I might as well be a man in the 19th century begging to see his ankle.

The elevator opened and we all stepped out. "See you tomorrow!" I waved to the two women and Keith. I stood at the bus stop and teetered on my heels. That was when I saw Keith speed by on a motorcycle. He waved and in the blink of an eye he was gone.

Oh no...

He's hot.

It's now my second week of working here.

Seldom do I see Keith, and when I do, our conversations are cut short. I walked into the donut shop and waved at Pidge. I had my connections.

"Three dozen donuts please!" I leaned on the counter.

"But that's so many," she complained.

"I'm bringing them to work, maybe my coworkers will actually talk to me." I drummed my fingers.

"I thought you said they were nice?" She frowned as she tapped on the computer screen.

"Oh they are, but it's a pretty closed circle." I explained.

"Whatever, are you sure this isn't just to get the attention of your office crush?" Pidge smirked.

"Only a little." I pulled out my wallet.

"Fifteen twenty-five." She read.

"Shouldn't it be 30 or something?" I asked.

"Family and friend discount." Pidge took my card.

"Thanks! Today is gonna be lucky." I said excitedly.

"Okay lover boy." She rolled her eyes and began to box the donuts.

I happily walked the rest of the way to work, and considering it was only a few buildings down I arrived half an hour early. I made it up the elevator and walked into the kitchen and set them on the counter.

I got some coffee and sat down at my desk. I began to work and I saw Keith walk in. He looked both stressed and sleep deprived. "Morning!" I smiled.

"Oh, uh, morning," he hadn't seen me and was slightly startled.

I turned back to my laptop and began typing away. He seemed a little curious but walked to his office slowly.

When the time came, I clocked in and walked back to my desk. I frowned at my empty mug. I stood up and walked to the kitchen to get more coffee. Two of the boxes of donuts were empty and the last one had only eight left. I filled up my mug and saw Keith walk in. I felt myself stiffen a little and took a sip.

"I hope no one took the last of the jelly filled donuts..." he murmured while looking them over.

"Sadly, I think Susan took the last one." I laughed.

"I'm firing her." He joked picking one up. "Who brought the donuts?"

"I get a discount at the donut shop because I know a few employees." I said nervously.

"So you brought them?" He confirmed. "Thanks,"

I cleared my throat awkwardly, "I should head back to work. Otherwise it won't be just Susan." I said walking backward to the door. I nearly tripped over a chair on my way out and laughed it off awkwardly. Keith chuckled watching me make a fool of myself.

When I finally sat down at my desk, I let my forehead bang against it. That was terrible. He was so amazing and he looked so hot and I panicked so bad.

I heard someone clear their throat and I looked up. Keith. I bolted upright and cleared my throat. "Uh, I-ee, how can I help you?"

"I forgot to tell you, your evaluation is on the 29th. It's a Friday. Everyone gets one once a month, I'll send you an email about it." He said walking off.

That was so embarrassing.

It's my fourth week working here.

To start the Monday as usual. I walked into the donut shop. "Sup Pidgeon."

She already had the boxes prepped. "Go get him tiger. Three dozen and an extra jelly filled donut,"

I walked into work feeling good about the day. Friday is my evaluation. I set the boxes down and pulled out a plate putting the extra donut on it. I grabbed a pen and sticky note from my desk.

'Keith's donut, do not eat.'

I stuck it to the edge of the plate and sat down at my desk. I did this every Monday and it sort of became tradition. And I made sure to save Keith a jelly filled donut every time.

I know it's stupid, get to the guy through his stomach is the best plan I could think up.

Because Pidge had the donuts ready, I was 30 minutes early to work. When I sat down to work on a few things, I noticed the light in Keith's office was on. He walked out moments later. "Morning," he greeted.

"Morning," I waved.

He walked into the kitchen and I saw him smile at the donut through the window.

I quickly looked back at my laptop screen when he walked back out. He walked to my desk and sat in a chair rolling it up to my desk.

"I wanted to ask you something..." he said nervously.

Could this be it? Could the food plan have actually worked?! Is he going to ask me out? "Uh, yeah, go ahead,"

"You know I don't have any control over pay right? Or promotions, or who gets fired." He flinched slightly.

I smiled, "I know." I went back to typing on my laptop.

"O-oh." He stood up and rolled the chair back.

"I actually wanted to ask you something too," I looked up quickly.

"Oh, uh, yeah?" He turned around.

"How do you feel about employees decorating their desks? I noticed no one really has much beside family pictures." I tapped my pen nervously.

"Oh, there's no restrictions. I mean, as long as it's not disturbing coworkers I guess." Keith shrugged.

"There goes my plans for a strobe light." I snapped my fingers jokingly.

Keith chuckled and grabbed his donut heading to his office. I groaned, my joke was so lame...

And on a worse note, Keith thought I was being nice to him to advance my pay. I sighed and continued to work.

Finally when the day was over, I clocked out. I still had a bit of work to get done. I stared at my laptop, I really don't want to make this homework. I plopped in my chair and decided to finish here.

An hour passed and I rubbed my face tiredly. Looking at the time, I sighed. At least I managed to get it all done. Packing up my things, I saw the light in Keith's office still on.

I slung my bag over my shoulder and pushed in my chair.

"You're still here?" Keith asked leaning against the doorframe of his office.

"Yeah," I stretched, "just finnished."

"I'm probably going to be here a while longer." He sighed.

"What are you working on?" I asked curiously.

"This stupid product. I guess it's a hairbrush that tells you the state of your hair. Split ends, moisture, oils..." he rubbed his eyes, "I have to make an advertisement point, make a profit estimate, and sort the data for it."

"What's your progress?" I leaned against my desk.

"I'm as far as advertisement." He chuckled.

"Deadline?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Friday."

"Mind if I take a look?" I asked. It was risky, but why not?

"Uh, sure." He gestured to come into his office. I felt a bit giddy, I hadn't been in here before.

I was sure he had a desk even though it wasn't visible under the amount of paperwork on it. He had a chair in front of his desk and I sat down. He sat in his computer chair and turned the screen of his computer.

The screen had a picture of the add and I stared at it closely. "Hmm."

"Hmm? What's 'hmm'?" He looked at me nervously.

"Well it's really good!" I shouldn't say anything, it's fine! But I really want to be honest and give my opinion. Maybe he doesn't want to hear it. Maybe it will make him mad.

"But..." he urged.

If he really is a good boss, and potential future hubby, he'll value input. "I think the color choice is a little... off?" The dark brown was not doing this product any justice.

"What colors should I use?" He stared at it contemplatively.

"The target consumers I'm assuming are female." He nodded. "Dark brown isn't very appealing. Maybe a lighter pastel color. Like a pastel blue of sorts. Oh! Like a dark pastel blue with a dusty rose color!" I snapped my fingers.

Keith immediately turned the screen back to him and began typing and clicking away. "That's amazing. It looks way more modern." He flipped the screen back around. "What else?"

I looked at it a little longer. "What would it look like with white font rather than black?"

He typed away and showed me the ad again.
"You're a natural." Keith laughed.

Just like that, I'm in. Keith and I continued to work on this project together for hours longer. I helped him with the statistics and I couldn't be more happy with the results. Keith was even more perfect than I thought, and I expected it to be difficult to work together because of my awkwardness, but instead, we were like a team. If I do end up landing a date with this guy, we'd be a total power couple.

We finally finished the statistics and both collapsed from exhaustion. "I don't think I can bring myself to look at one more number." Keith sighed.

"Agreed. I need sustenance." I stretched.

"What time is it-?" Keith looked at his watch. "Oh wow, it's 7:46."

"Really?" I looked up surprised. "We've been working on this more than three hours."

"Time flies." He stood up and I heard his back snap, crackle, and pop like Rice Krispies. "Wanna get dinner?"

Did he just ask that? I glanced down to make sure I wasn't tap dancing out of the sheer excitement. "Yeah, sure."

"Chinese?" He suggested.

"Yes please!" I walked out of his office and snatched up my bag.

We left the building and I made eye contact with his motorcycle.

No. Way.

He handed me a helmet. "I don't think I've ever been on one of these." I said nervously.

He laughed, "I'll try to take it easy."

"Try." I mocked pulling on the helmet.

He swung his leg over the bike and started it. "Ready?"

"If I die..." I murmured as I got on.

"You're going to want to hold on." Keith kicked up the leg.

"To what?" I looked for anything to hold onto.

"Me, duh." Keith looked over his shoulder.

I nearly had a heart attack. This was almost too perfect. I wrapped my arms around him and the bike lurched forward. "Oh gosh..." I squeezed a little and I heard him chuckle.

Quickly, I became less scared and more in awe. Something about riding through the city on a motorcycle at night was euphoric. City lights shining off Keith's helmet as we drove pass.

I had goosebumps on my arms from the cool afternoon breeze, but Keith was warm. When he pulled to the side of the street I felt a little disappointed. However, I quickly forgot it when I smelled the Chinese food.

The aroma practically had me floating in the air like a cartoon. I pulled off the helmet and Keith slid it into the bag on the side. "That wasn't so bad was it?"

"That was amazing." I said opening the door for him and following.

We were sat at a table and ordered our drinks. We started off talking about the project, but quickly the conversation took off elsewhere.

"So my sister and her husband have their own business where they remodel houses and whatnot. Pretty sure she's the reason I'm good with matching colors." I answered his question. "What about you? Any siblings besides Shiro?"

"No, Shiro's the only family I have. He's sort of like my best friend, dad, and brother. We're actually not even related by blood."

"Really? Do you mind if I ask about your parents?" I asked softly.

"Well, my mom passed away during childbirth and my father was a firefighter, he died on the job when I was 8. Shiro was the son of one of my dad's friends and he took me in." Keith explained.

"I'm sorry about your parents, you were lucky to have Shiro I'm sure."

"More than lucky." Keith smiled and took a sip of his iced tea.

While the dinner was absolutely amazing and I was more head over heels for Keith now than ever, it was still pretty uneventful. We simply chatted and enjoyed each others stories.

I noticed that Keith hadn't mentioned any girlfriends or boyfriends. I had to confirm though, so I waited for an opening.

"So I was on the subway heading home one night--this was before I had my bike--and as I was getting on, I absolutely biffed it. Put holes in my work pants, my hands were scraped and everything. I was lucky not a lot of people were around but this one couple saw and they laughed at me so hard they couldn't catch their breath. They teased me the entire way home and it was then that I vowed I was getting other means of transportation." Keith laughed.

I laughed at the story. "Rude! They didn't even help you." I frowned. "Speaking of couples, do you have a girlfriend... or boyfriend?"

"Uh, no." Keith blushed slightly. "I guess I sorta get too invested in work." He said with a tilt of his head. "What about you?"

I was happy with his answer but still had no hint if he was interested in guys at all. "No, I guess work has been a high priority for me too." I looked down at the table and rubbed my neck.

Keith took another bite of his rice. "We'll die lonely but successful." He smiled.

'Not if I get my way', I thought.

We continued to chat and when we finished, we were laughing like idiots leaving the restaurant. "Want a ride home?" Keith offered up the helmet.

"Please." I lit up taking the helmet from him and slipping it on. "I was nervous at first, but I actually like your bike."

Keith sat on the bike and started it with a large grin. "Knew you would."

I swung my leg over the seat and didn't hesitate to wrap my arms around Keith. I directed him as we rode through the the streets, on cloud nine feeling Keith in my arms as buildings flew by.

When he finally stopped at my apartment complex, Keith turned off his bike. "Thanks for the ride," I took off the helmet, "and dinner."

Keith smiled slipping the helmet into its pocket. "I'll see you tomorrow,"

Tuesday morning, Lance arrived at work early to decorate his desk. He brought a few family pictures, a small succulent, a cactus, his favorite mug, and a small container with only the best pens. He also added a small bi flag sticking out of the container. The mug of course says "certified bi disaster" to which he filled with coffee. He sat down and opened his laptop getting a head start on his work for the day.

Lance heard the elevator doors open and felt giddy. He straightened his tie and turned around to see Keith. Except, he looked like a total mess. He was carrying his bag with his laptop in one hand, a few important looking papers in the other, under his arm was a rolled up poster, and he had his keys hanging off the end of his pinky. He looked like he was struggling to hold everything, and the bags under his eyes proved he was probably sleep deprived.

"Morning," Lance smiled a little nervous. "Do you uh need some help?"

"Oh no, I got it." He started past Lance's desk and caught sight of the personalization. "Hey you decorated your desk..." he trailed of locking eyes with the small flag.

"Yeah, looks good?" Lance took a sip from the mug and the moment Keith read it he dropped the poster and his keys.

"Uh, I-ee, yeah!" Keith suddenly seemed more nervous and frantic.

Lance leaned down and picked up the items. It occurred to him that Keith's reaction could mean one of two things. He's either totally spazzing because he likes Lance or he's straight and totally uncomfortable.

Lance thought back to the previous night. He probably had dinner with him thinking they were going out as coworkers or 'bro's' or whatever and is worried Lance has the wrong idea.

Lance stood up holding the keys and poster deciding he'd help him whether he wanted him to or not. "You seem... tired. Did you even sleep last night?" Lance tilted his head to the side giving Keith a 'what am I going to do with you' kind of smile.

"Well... I-uh went to bed three hours ago." Keith looked away guiltily.

"Keith! That's not healthy!" Lance whined. "Is it even safe for you to be driving?"

"What can I do? Deadlines are deadlines." Keith shrugged.

"I guess..." Lance frowned. "So I think I can guess how your night went after you dropped me off."

"I think you can. What did you do?" Keith asked as they walked into his office.

Lance thought about how he watched dirty dancing and danced around his apartment in footie pajamas. He decided it would be wise to leave that out. "Just watched a movie, worked a bit, nothing crazy."

"What movie?" Keith set his things down exhaustedly.

"Um, documentary." Lance lied. "About space."

From then on, everything was pretty boring. Lance clocked in, worked his life away hunched over his laptop and drank an unhealthy amount of coffee. Yet of course when it came time to go home, Lance caught sight of Keith riding by on his motorcycle and it made his legs weak.

That night, Lance spent way too long creating a game plan. A game plan to get to the bottom (pun intended) of whether Keith is gay or not.

The next morning, said game plan was finally put into action. Lance sat at his desk holding his Bisexual mug and watched the time carefully.

7:26 a.m.

At about 7:30 everyday, Keith leaves his office to get a cup of coffee. It however is not an exact science. So when the time came close enough, he sauntered into the break room. So when Keith came to get his morning caffeine, he would 'coincidentally' run into Lance.

Lance waited a moment to start making his cup of coffee until he saw Keith just leave his office. Keith walked in and smiled seeing Lance. "Morning."

Lance looked up like he didn't notice him yet, "oh, morning," Lance returned the smile. He grabbed his mug from underneath the dispenser opening it up to Keith. "Did your sleep schedule improve any last night?" Lance smirked motioning the mug a little to draw some attention to it.

Keith's gaze locked onto the mug briefly and Lance felt a bit of victory. "Somewhat, I went to bed a little after one in the morning."

"Not ideal, but it's better." Lance chuckled and took a small sip of coffee.

"Are you... are you...?" Keith started.

Bingo! "Bisexual?" Lance questioned how he was trying to finish.

"Yeah," Keith nodded.

"Yup!" Lance said confidently. "That's... okay right?"

"Yeah! Totally! Of course! No problem! Not here! Nope!" Keith rambled nervously. "I-uh, I'm actually... gay." Keith said a little quieter.

"Oh," Lance smiled a little wider.

"Welp, I should, uh, get back to work." Keith said picking up his mug and heading for the door. He turned around but kept shuffling backward. "See you later," he stumbled on a chair on his way to the door much like Lance did when he first started working here. When Keith was out of sight, Lance did a small dance in the break room that involved fist bumping the air and mouthing 'yes!'.

Lance walked back to his desk feeling more confident and encouraged than ever.

Thursday rolled around and Lance felt nervous. His evaluation was tomorrow and he still had to come up with something to seal a date with Keith.

He had to come up with something so amazing, so romantic, and so perfect, it would be like he jumped out of a romcom.

He sat at his desk bouncing his leg and stared out the window at nothing in particular. He had to come up with something to woo Keith. At least he had time. If push comes to shove, he will likely be working with him for at least another year

"Morning Lance," Keith passed by his desk.

"Oh Uh, morning," Lance sat up snapping out of his thinking.

He hadn't even noticed that Shiro was walking alongside Keith.

"Anyway, I'm sad you'll be leaving, but I'm glad you're taking a job doing something you like." Shiro put a hand on his shoulder and smiled.

Keith glanced in Lance's direction like he hadn't wanted him to hear that. Lance felt a sudden sinking feeling in his chest. Sure he'd only really known Keith for a month but he really did like him. He really did want to be something to Keith. Even if dating Keith wasn't an option, he'd take what he could get by at least being a good friend of his. At least if it meant getting to be around him.

Scratch the whole, no time crunch thing. He had to find some way to get Keith. He'd spent a month planning and plotting to try to even get Keith to look in his direction even if it was just for a moment. He couldn't back down now. Not when he's this close.

Friday came too soon. He'd thought all night about it and he came up with nothing. Any idea he came up with was either too forward, too cringeworthy, or too stupid.

He showed up to work with no game plan, no ideas, and no tricks. It was just him, his dashing good looks and his charming personality.

He was doomed.

Work seemed to move too fast and too slow all at the same time. When it reached 3:50 he sighed. The meeting was supposed to start at 4.

In 10 minutes it would be just him and Keith... alone... in his office. He leaned back in his chair and let out a deep sigh. He guessed it was time to give up.

"You're not nervous about your evaluation are you?" Keith chuckled sitting on his desk.

Lance's head popped up and his heart warmed at the sight. He couldn't give up. How could he have even considered it? A grin spread across his face, "Should I be nervous?"

"Maybe," Keith gave him a teasing look and led Lance to his office.

While Lance didn't have much of a game plan, he did set some rules.

1. Don't be too straightforward.

While he was on a time crunch now, he under no circumstances should get overly bold. This was his boss after all and he didn't want to scare Keith off.

2. Don't blame Keith if he gives you any negative feedback at all through the evaluation.

Keith is just doing his job. He has to be honest. Lance cannot afford to take it to heart. He just has to learn from it.

3. And most important of all! Don't mention anything about his new job.

The door closed behind them and Lance bit his lip.

Don't do it Lance. He told himself.

"Are you really leaving? When? What's your new job?" Lance rambled quickly. Well there goes rule number 3.

Keith froze and a small smile broke. "I thought you overheard that." He sat down and rolled his chair closer to his desk. "I got a job with NASA. My last day is Friday next week."

Lance frowned and looked to the side avoiding looking at him. "Well... I bet they don't have jelly filled donuts at NASA." He mumbled.

Keith let out a small laugh that could make Lance do backflips. "You're right, they probably don't. But I guess that's what I have you for."

Lance could've sworn that was flirting. He almost swore Keith had hinted at something. But just as quickly as he made the comment, he had changed the topic.

"This is probably gonna be one of the quickest evaluations I've ever done." Keith sighed looking down at a small sheet of paper sitting in front of him. "So far you've shown amazing promise and have gone above and beyond in your work. You get along well with everyone and all your coworkers seem to like you. You have all your work done far before your deadlines and it's always complete just how we want it. You're sickeningly good at your job." Keith said deadpanned.

"Thanks?" Lance gave a surprised grin.

"It's a shame actually. It means less time getting to talk to you." Keith sighed straightening some papers.

Lance was sure now that it was flirting. He suppressed the urge to jump up and do a victory lap. "Well... I mean... yesterday I took a forty minute lunch instead of a thirty." Lance smiled leaning forward in his seat.

Keith grinned widely, "Using company hours?" He raised an eyebrow. "How do you plan to compensate?"

Lance shifted and his heart pounded as he geared up to shoot his shot. "Maybe dinner? And a movie?"

Keith almost seemed to light up with delight. "I think we can accept that as form of payment." He pulled out a pen and scribbled down on a sticky note. "My personal number."
