A very joyvial evening in ict, test matches in England were going on , today a debutant was to join ict, our captain virat kohli was waiting at the door to receive him , that's when he saw a boy of about 19 yrs old coming towards him, he was lanky, a bit too much, his teenage features were very much dominant, despite having a lean figure he had these chubby cheeks, one thing that was missing was his smile, usually a debutant is all smiles, during his first tour but this guy here wasn't showing much on his face, the boy finally reached and was a little surprised seeing his captain standing there in front of him, well he wasn't j expecting that virat kholi would be waiting for him at the doors, he just couldn't speak for a while

"Hey u ok? " Asked virat seeing him quite

" Yes sir i am ok, I mean I am kl Rahul"
Said rahul nervously

"Do not mention that,i know u, domestic mei kya bawaal macha rakha hai and don't call me sir accha nhi lagta, call me anything you want virat, vi, bha.. " Said virat as he was about to complete rahul cut him

"Cap, can i call u cap " Asked rahul shyly, at the compliment he got "said rahul

"Of course kiddo u can call me whatever u want " Said virat ruffling his hair though he wanted rahul to call him bhaiya

"Kiddo" That word seemed to touch the wires of his heart, warming them, it's been yrs since someone called him with love like this, that ruffle on hair was something his dad always did

"Come let me introduce u to everyone, sab dining darea mei honge, lunch toh nhi kiya na? Oh god mai bhi tab se i have kept u standing here chal let's eat " Said virat putting a arm on his shoulder

As they reached the dining area other juniors like harry, shrey and jassi were sitting along with rohit ,bhuvi jaadu, ash and rest were sitting too, as virat reached he clapped his hands to draw attention towards him

"Guys here is our debutant of the series kl rahul" Announced virat

General hustle of room stopped and everyone was now focussing on rahul, , the juniors of the team stood up immediately , walking to him introducing them

"Jasprit bumraah, u can call me jassi"

"Shreyas iyer, u can call me shrey "

"Hardik pandya, call me harry like everyone in ict does

All rahul could manage awkwardly was

" I am kl rahul "

Virat sensed that, he was getting uncomfortable with the sudden attention, so he told everyone to settle on the table to eat.

"Ab tum logo ka introduction ho gya toh kuch kha bhi lo aur usse bhi khane do" Said virat making rahul sit

Today they were served paneer and by the looks of it rahul wasn't a fan of it, he scrunched his face in disgust looking at it

"U Don't like paneer rahul? " Asked virat watching him

"No cap, I mean I will eat it " Said rahul taking the fork

"Ara no need if u don't like it we will order something else, wait let me call the waiter" Said virat calling for a waiter

"No, no pls don't call anyone, I will finish this, wasting the food on the plate is not a good thing" Said rahul trying to stop virat

Rahul had started eating, but anyone could tell by looking at him that he was forcing himself to do so, he was almost gagging, virat was sitting across him and saw the same, but he had no idea why was rahul doing this, so he got up and bought some chicken from the buffet

"Ho gaya bohat paneer yeh try karo "said virat taking away his plate

" U didn't need to get up cap, I could have finished it, sorry for making u work "said rahul immediately

" Are u mad or what , isme work wali konsi baat ho gyi, now kid eat this, wasting food on the plate is not a good thing "said virat eating his own food

" U know what rahul, these people are not gonna eat u up , u can talk to them them, I know it's new and overwhelming but don't be so quite ok? "Said virat

" Yes cap I will try my best"said rahul with sincerity

Virat didnt understand, why this guy was so formal about everything, usually when som young guy enters the team, he is very excited about it, wants to gel with everyone, in fact in case of Harry he didn't seem to stop with his questions, but then he shrugged off thinking that maybe he will take time to open up

As time went virat understood one thing, that it wasn't just, rahul wasn't just shy or overwhelmed, there was something else to it but virat wasn't able to figure it out what exactly, rah was way too much hyper independent, to an extent that he didn't even let anyone get him a bottle of water , always wanted to do everything all by himself.

Virat being virat, was able to get the way to his heart, rahul loved mushrooms and vi noticed it so everyday, there used be atleast 2 dishes made out of mushrooms for dinner, maybe the food did the magic and rahul willingly started being around virat, he was still hesitatant with others, to be specific team members had their own groups, harry, jassi and shrey were rahul's age but according to rahul they were his Seniors and it wasn't good to disturb them, also the 3 didn't make any effort because most of the time, rahul was in his room .

One night, every one was gathered in rohit's room as it was a movie marathon night, the Juniors were Quarreling amongst them selves to sit beside rohit after all their favorite bhaiya he was, harry, shrey and jassi all were his beloved kiddos, while rohit knew it was better to keep quite and let the kids solve it, he wasn't going to take any sides and get himself in trouble, virat had went to fetch rahul very well knowing that rahul wouldn't come by himself

"Tum log ka mujhe nhi pata i am the first kid and I am gonna sit beside him bas bol diya maine" Said jassi

"Oye first kid ke bacche, Tu first kid hai toh mai kya adopted hu, I am also the first kid" Said harry protesting

"Tu shayad bhul raha hai harry, that u joined a day after I did, so mathematically I am the first kid" Said jassi

"Kya bak raha hai, yaha koi exam chal raha jo toh number of days pe first kid decide karega" Said harry giving jassi , kuch bhi bol raha hai looks

"Well being his youngest kid I have full rights to occupy the seat beside him and that is what I will do " Said shrey sitting beside rohit

Now only one place was left

"I will sit beside him"

"No I will"

"I will sit"

"Shut up both of you, harry let jassi sit beside me and you.... " Said rohit when harry Intrupted him

"Not again BRo, it's not fair, last time bhi aisa hi kiya tha apne dining table pe, u let these two sit with you, yeh shrey apka youngest kid hai, jassi first kiddo, toh mujhe rakha hi q hai mai ek kaam karta hu i will sit on the floor, u sit with them" Said harry frustrated

"Ara harry mujhe complete toh karne de, kab se train ki tarah wo kar raha hai, I am saying let them sit beside me and u lie on the bed with your head on my lap" Said rohit

" Acha aisa hai, abhi Aya "said harry sheepishly keep his head on rohit's lap

On the other side, virat reached rahul's room, where he found rahul, looking at a photo in his hand , but as soon as virat entered he kept it back in the bag

" Rahul, kya kar raha hai chalo, we are having a movie night "said virat

" Nhi cap ap jao na, what will i do there , phir kal practice bhi toh hai"said rahul

"Movie night mei movie dekhate hai aur kya, waise bhi we have late practice tomorrow isliye toh we planned this movie night, kiddo come na " Said virat

"Ok cap, I will come, ap sure ho na no one will mind if I come" Asked rahul, still not sure if he should go

"Why will any one mind, u are a part of the team, part of our family" Said virat putting an arm around him

Rahul was genuinely happy at that, virat called him part of the family, he missed this having this feeling of being included, rahul had grown found of virat's attention towards him, although he didn't like when virat went out of his way to make rahul comfortable like the time virat had given out his portion of coconut cookies, because rahul casually told he liked them, well it was a big thing for rahul, he wasn't used to people getting him stuff out of love

They both reached and everyone was settled in their places, ro, harry, jassi and shrey were in the bed, shikki, bhuvi ash, jaddu on the big couch, so virat and rahul settled on the extra mattress on the floor, rahul was looking towards the ro and his kids how they had all hogged ro, ro was patting shrey's and jassi's head every now and then, while his other hand was on hardik's head caressing them, rahul was smiling looking at them when he felt a gaze on him, he instantly looked back at the movie

"So u know how to smile, mujhe toh laga tha u don't know how to do it" Teased virat

"Aisa nhi hai bas, when I looked at them, i Remembered my childhood" Said rahul

"Hmm so tell me about your childhood, " Said virat

Rahul didn't knew when had he, become so comfortable with virat that as soon as virat asked he started answering,

"Amma used to always feed me, I don't even remember one day in my childhood that i had eaten with my hands, appa always called me my Cheriyavan (little one), every time i had waited for him to have dinner or got him a glass of water he used to ruffle my hair telling me i am the best thing that he had , almost all the time appa took me in his lap and made me sleep, amma used to run around me in the whole house because I loved when she gave me attention that's why I used to do one thing or another just to make her run behind me, when she had caught finally I used to tell her she is the best amma in the world and then she would take me in her embrace , working like that only"said rahul with moist eyes

Rahul had leaned on to virat's shoulder, narrating his childhood, virat thought maybe he is missing his family, he also saw rahul with family photo so he had put a hand over rahul taking him in a side hug and even rahul didn't protest , virat really wasn't found of physical touch, he didn't like when people leaned on him, the way the kids had cuddled to rohit he wouldn't be able to sit like that, virat just didn't like it, but he didn't mind rahul leaning on to him or even taking him in his embrace, that kid was special for virat

"Koi nhi, next time se dono ko leke aana, then u won't miss them" Said virat trying to console him, thinking he was missing them but little did virat know

"They won't come , they left me a long while ago, after that they never came back" Said rahul starring at blank space and then went back to the movie, he didn't realize that he just said that he's parents had passed away

Virat was taken aback, what did rahul just say, why didn't he mention it earlier, was this the reason he was so hesitant about everything, when did this happen where was rahul living all these while, virat wanted to ask him but then rahul said it so blankly and then focused on the movie that virat wasn't sure if he should even touch that topic again, who better than virat knew how it felt to loose a parent and here rahul had lost them both only thing he could do was to promise that he wouldn't let rahul feel alone ever after this

As the night advanced sleep engulfed everyone, rahul and virat had dozed off too, I middle of the night rahul found himself sleeping on virat's bicep and he had virat had taken held of his hands, when rahul tried getting up ,virat stirred in his sleep , putting his hand over rahul patting his cheast to put him to sleep

"Sleep kiddo sleep, abhi subah nhi hui hai, don't wake up" Said virat sleeply and dozed off again, rahul was sleepy too so he just slept again not thinking much

NEXT DAY
Everything was normal the next day, but unknown to rahul his captain had remembered everything from last night and he was determined to make rahul understand that he wasn't alone he had a family ,he doesn't needs to do everything all by himself , one needs to ask for help when needed

Every one was practicing, rahul was in the nets and wanted to ask virat to teach him cover drive, when shreyas asked him politely that

"Rahul let me, go to vi bhai first tum baad mai seekh lena waise bhi, he is always around u time nhi milta" Said shrey

"Ha ok u go, I have no problem , sir can I ask you something" Asked rahul

"Ha bolo na rahul, aur sir mat bolo yaar we are the same age, it's just that we debuted first" Said jassi who came with hardik

"Is cap not spending time with you guys, meri wajah se? " Asked rahul

These didn't knew that, rahul's brain works over time even when it's not needed, so told him casually what he felt like

"Ha matlab jis din se u arrived, he always just sits with u, bus mein, dining table pe and even during practice he is around you most of the time" Said harry

"Isn't it what he does with every newbie, tumlogo ke sath bhi toh he was like this only na " Asked rahul

"Ha but He loves you a lot even more than us , if u noticed, he gets what u like u eat, from very first day only, panner ke jagha he got u chicken,last time jab i said I don't wanna have broccoli, he made me finish the whole thing" Said shrey complaining

"Aur Vi bhai ko pasand nhi somebody sits very close to him or hugs him he is not someone who likes physical touch mgr kal raat ko he slept cuddling with you, so it's obvious he cares for u more that even if he doesn't likes it, it beared with it" Said jassi shrugging his shoulders

They all said it in very casual way, just like you do to friends, not knowing the fact that rahul would get affected by it. According to rahul because of him virat was being bothered, getting him what he likes,not letting him feel alone and assuring him that everything is fine through affection , was not something anybody ever gave him so it was obvious that rahul felt he is being a burden

Shrey got done with his time with virat and now he was teaching rahul how to do it

"Rah bend your front knee a little and back leg ko firm rakho"

"Yes good that's how u did "

As they got done ,they were packing their stuff when virat spoke

"Rah ajj na we will go out for lunch, rohit na shrey, harry aur jassi ko leke ja raha hai we will, also go somewhere, Italian khayega ya Mexican tell me waise hi decide karta hu" Said virat doing his work

"Cap what I was saying ke kya jarurat hai, hotel mei hi kha lete hai na , bekar mei paise q kharach karna hai, " Said rahul

"Ara bekr mei kaha kharach ho rahe hai , bekar mei toh tab kharch hoga jab the food won't be good the hotel today again have this no nonveg day ajj phir sirf paneer serve karenge wo log hotel mei" Said virat

"But cap ap mere liya pareshan mat ho, mai kha lunga u don't have to bother yourself for me,ap rohit sir ke sath chale jao na " Said rahul

"Aise kaise nhi,u are my family ,like my little brother, family ke liya koi pareshan nhi hota, I will take u out I don't know anything else, u don't have to think that u are bothering anyone by these little things, amma appa hote agr ajj meri jagha toh bhi yahi bolta unko "asked virat

" Ho..w do d..id u "asked rahul

"Kal raat ko after narrating about your childhood, u said it" Keepin an arm around him

"Sorry cap i didn't realize what I was saying, I really didn't wanted to make u uncomfortable by my personal stuff I am sorry" Said rahul looking down

Virat lifted his head by holding his chin, wiping the tears that had fallen

"Hey kiddo, u did not make me uncomfortable not at all. ok? Don't u ever think that u will bother me, u never will, anything that makes u sad is not gonna be personal anymore, tell me what you feel . Hmm? " Said virat softly kissing his forehead

Rahul felt all emotional, seeing virat talking so softly with him, after his amma and appa he never felt the warm that virat was giving him right now, but one thing he was sure about is that because of him other relations of virat cannot suffer, he very well knows the feeling of how it feels when u are not given the attention u need, also he didn't want the other people to hate him because he is snatching away virat from them, nobody told him that they hate him but the overworking brain make a conclusion out of himself that he is being hated.

AFTER 2 DAYS

Jaddu and shikki were planning a to prank rohit, supposedly the trio had planned to go to some wild life santury, but rohit being the sleep head he is they got super late and now they had to plan it for other day, now both had planned a perfect trap in the team room as soon as rohit would enter he would step over a lot of orbez and then he would trip a little on the carpet after that 2 buckets of cold ice water would be poured onto him

their plan was all good going they had called rohit to the team room too, but now the thing is that, rohit heard them murmuring from inside and went back to his room in double speed,unfortunately rahul came in the team room to get the his jacket that he left yesterday and boom he met with the stuff which was meant to be for rohit as the lights were off both haddi and shikki didn't see that it was rahul and poured 2 bull buckets of water witn ice cubes in it

"Ahaahaha, " Screamed rahul in surprise he was all drenched

"Oh god jaddu yeh toh rahul hai,rohit kaha hai " Said shikki seeing rahul

"Ara rahul why are u here, it was meant for rohit" Said jaddu helping him to stand

"I left my jacket, wahi lene aya tha " Said rahul shivering out of cold

"Kid this wasn't meant for u "giving him towel to wipe his face Said shikki ,while jaddu came forward to dry his hair

"Mai kar lunga sir it's ok " Said rahul

"Room mei jake change kar lo ok , no, do one thing virat ke room mei chale jao, waha fire place hai u will stay warm " Said shikki

Rahul went to virat's room but he found, virat with mahi bhai so, he went back to his room and changed. the cold weather of England and ice cold water had done it's work , he already was feeling warm in his body but was shivering as he felt cold, the ventilation of his room wasn't helping either so he closed the windows and got inside the blankets, setting an alarm.

By the time he woke up he felt feverish and had a slight headache nevertheless he woke up and went to attend the team meeting,instead of going to the physio and getting himself checked, not knowing the fact that if virat finds out he would be really furious, but then it's been like this for him all his life nobody seemed to care how was he doing, ok or not ok he had to work hard , life made him learn that lesson that nobody is going to get affected by what happens to you and for him virat was the same he didn't want to burden him.

The meeting got over virat as usual came to him and as he had put an arm around him he was stunned rahul was running a fever.

"What the hell rahul" Glared virat

"Kya hua cap, did I do anything" Asked rahul seeing virat glaring at him

"Mujhe puch raha hai, room se bahr q nilka, itna bukhar hai tuje " Said virat worried

"Team meeting thi na toh i though... " Tried rahul

"Ha toh u thought ke stupidity karte hai , physio ke pass gaya? Nhi gaya na, for God sake rahul u are a national player aise carelessness karna is not what I expect from u " Scolded virat

Rahul just stood there with his head down, the headache had increased and virat scolding him like that wasn't helping

"Now why are u standing here, go to your room. no, go to my room, when I come, I want you on the bed resting" Said virat sternly and left

Rahul felt like crying, he puts a facade of being an adult but he was still a 19yrs old, it was the first time he had been scolded by virat and he felt bad , the fever and headache were both adding to the emotional turmoil he didn't want to left alone again just like he was left as a child, he quickly walked towards virat's room and as said he climbed on the bed, he no way wanted to disappoint his Bhaiya, yes he never said it but, in a very small span of time virat became a big brother from a captain, as always rahul didnt was not sure how would virat react if he calls him Bhaiya ,

It had been 10 mins since virat asked him to come in the room, now that heaviness had taken over, the aches due to cold finally setting in ,he was disoriented, the unwanted insecurities were taking their grip,rahul was crying in the cushions.

did virat leave him because he was being a nuisance?, was virat fed up of looking for him, did he piss virat so much that he would never come back ever again, all these were over his mind, slowly he fell asleep he was exusted physically and emotionally

When virat came came with a bowl of water,and cloth strip , after telling the physio to come to his room as soon as possible , he found rahul having a nightmare the poor guy was thrashing his legs, and was repeating something

"Please don't go appa, amma i will good"

"I will not be a burden, I will not ask for anything pls bring them back"

"Please take me out room is very dark"

Rahul was crying, all these while, but still, in the night mare, virat had no idea what to do, he tried shaking him a little but no avail, as he touched rahul he felt the fever had increased, he was literally burning,virat tried talking to him

"Rah kiddo u are good, nobody is locking u, see bhaiya is there na "

"Nobody is leaving pls wake up baccha, u are not a burden, my kid , u are safe it's ok wake up"

These words seemed to calm him down, virat sprinkled some water on him and he opened his eyes and hugged virat by his waist

"Don't go away, bhai i will never act careless after this, I will eat what ever is present on the table, u will not have to take me out and bother yourself, I will not even take other's them with you , don't go away they will lock me up again pls don't it's very dark " Cried rahul

"Baccha nobody is locking u, u are safe, see this is my room, lights are on too, kuch nhi hoga, u are not taking anyone's time with me ,hmm? Ok , u are my kid right and I can never be bothered by something my kids wants u understand? Now lift your head a bit and see u are all alright there's no darkness "said virat calming him down rubbing his back.

Rahul lifted his head as virat promted him to do so, he realized that he as in virat's room everything was fine,it was just a nightmare he was safe, not in that house anymore, virat made him lay down on the cushions and started doing the wet strips to bring down his fever. The physio arrived and checked him

"Everything is alright na, hospital leke jane ki jarurat toh nhi hai, fever last 2 hrs mei bohat badh gya tha" Said virat panicked

" Relax,See virat the fever has reduced, medicines time pe do, feed him something hot aur keep him warm not everyone has is able to adapt to this cold weather quickly" Said the physio

"But nitin rah toh bohat din se yahi par hai, aise achanak se how would he catch fever like that " Said virat

"That u ask him, what he did, whatever it is zada mat datna baccha hai and call me agr fever phir spike kare toh" Said nitin and left.

Virat would ask him but not now , first imp things he ordered soup for him and carried on with the water strips , as the soup arrived virat helped him sit up and took the bowl in his hands to feed him,

"Mai pee leta hu ap pareshan mat ho " Said rahul weakly

"Acha, ok lo pakdo bowl" Said virat sarcastically rolling his eyes

Rahul tried doing that and of course failed miserably

"Ho gaya ?kar liya na, mil gyi satisfaction, sometimes u have to let people take over har waqt sab kuch khud nhi kar sakte " Said virat taking back the bowl .

Virat had fed him in silence , the meds too, he knew that now rahul needs to speak what happened and he would need to coax it out of him , so virat sat beside and pulled him to himself in such a way that rahul was leaning on to virat with his head on virat's chest and virat had one hand on his back and other one around him as if he was cradling him,virat was running a hand rahul's back letting him sink in the warmth even before virat could initiated the conversation rahul looked up at him with doe eye still in the hug

"Bhaiya,ap naraz ho kya" Asked rahul

"Nhi baccha naraz nhi hu mai i was just worried about u that's why Maine daanta " Said virat patting him on the head

"Rah ek baat puchu? Batega ? " Asked virat

Rahul just nodded, when virat asked him about the night mare and if it was related to his childhood, he stiffened, virat could do nothing but tightned his hold on rahul assuring he was there

"It's ok if u don't want to share koi ba..." He was cut by rahul

"I was six yrs old , it was me appa and amma in the family, we were the happiest family, like every other parents they both had spoilt me rotten, apne hath se khana khilana, carrying me every where with them, I never slept on the bed sirf app ke lap mei soya karta tha jo chaiye wo appa kuch ganto mei lake de dete the, amma na har roj used to try some new recipe for me, I was a picky eater, she used to run around me in the whole house to feed me phir one day he told me they are going to hospital ,amma wasn't well so they dropped me at uncle's house, th...ey never ret re...tur..ned bhai they never came back, unka acci....dent ho gya, I wasn't eve able to see them for the last time, cliff se they got *sob* , I lost them, but tab I didn't knew ke they *sob* had di..ed, aunty and uncle were just behind my money that's why they kept me, instead of telling me wht*sob happened with them , they told me that amma appa went away beacause *sob*i kept on asking for new things, that*sob* I was the baddest *sob*son one could have they were fed of raising a*sob* son like me. in their House once I said that I don't like *sob*brinjal , so uske baad aunty had locked me in the*sob* room, for 3 days they didn't give me any food*sob* usdin ke baad, I was said that i would only get to eat after everyone does, this went on for yrs kabhi agar galti se kuch tut jata toh uncle , aunty used to hit me with different things and then lock me in that dark room for. Only when I was 12 I got to know ke amma and appa, I I however completed my studies and as soon as I got chance I ran away from there and seeked help froma ngo it's because of them only that I was able to focus on my cricket"Said rahul crying snuggling on to virat

After listening to him even virat had tears in his eyes,virat didnt expect that the intensity of the things would be this bad,the poor kid had been through hell, of course virat couldn't change the past but the present was still in his hands he wouldn't let the people who made his baccha cry and bear so much go just like that

"Mera baccha, from now onwards I am there the whole team is there, u are not alone, waha nhi ho ab, I will take care of everything, sab thik kar dunga mai, from today dare you say that u are a orphan, u are are not, bada bhai zinda hai tera" Said virat cradling him

"Acha sun yeh bata zara fever kaisa aya Tujhe, bina sweater ke ghum raha tha ya phir thanda pani piya ice cream toh nhi khayi na tune " Said virat trying to divert his mind from the pains of past

"Nhi bhaiya wo toh " Said rahul shaking his head vigorously telling him what jaddu and shikki did

"In dono ko mai kal batata hu, akal nhi hai zara si, mera bacha bimar pad gaya in dono gadho ki wajah se" Said virat gritting his teeth

"Bhai plz unko mat daantna ap, un dono ne sorry bola mujhe Moreover prank mere liye tha bhi nhi, ap chd do na unhe " Said rahul innocently

"Itni fikr mat kar, aisa kuch zada nhi karunga mei, chal let me check your fever" Said virat

"Abhi nhi aise accha lag raha hai" Said rahul but then pulled away from him suddenly

"Ara kya hua aise uth q gaya" Asked virat confused

"Wo jassi was telling ke ap ko pasand nhi hai when people lean on to u Or hug u" Said rahul

"Yeh jassi bhi na, I did not like it until, I didn't have my own kid,you were not there, now that u are here, mujhe cuddle karne mei koi problem nhi , I will do anything and everything that gives you comfort baccha" Said virat pulling him again the way they were and that's how they slept
