Thirty-Two

Harry

"Oh, my God! That's adorable!" I heard Jessi laugh. I could only imagine which embarrassing photo Gemma had pulled out now. Apparently Mum had armed her with every photo I didn't want Jess to see. Obviously, Gemma was having a great time. "Harry, come see this. You were always an adorable little cupcake!" Jess yelled and I could hear Gemma laughing.

"Gem, you realise there will be payback for this right?" I said as I carried the tea and coffee into the Living Room.

"Oh, I'm shaking!" She mocked. "You forget little brother that every trick you think of I've already pulled it at least twice. In fact, I probably taught it to you."

"Hey, don't be mad at Gemma. She wanted to stop ages ago, but I begged her to show me more. They are too cute." Jessi smiled. "Just look at your little face covered in spaghetti."

"I'm gonna make Danny show me every embarrassing photo he has of you next time we see him." I put down the drinks and sat down beside her.

"I'm sure he'll happily agree. I'm surprised he hasn't shown you already." Jessi giggled and cuddled in beside me.

"Remember the time you ruined Grandma's new wallpaper, and you tried to hide it by colouring it in with your felt pens?" Gemma laughed.

"Harry!" Jessi laughed too.

"What? I was seven, and I really didn't think she'd notice." I joined in laughing. Art never really was one of my strong points. "What about the time you shot me with the kid next door's BB gun? I still have the scar."

"I thought it was a toy. Mum was furious." Gemma sighed.

"Stop! You guys are making me laugh too much." Jessi was clutching her sides as she laughed.

"I'm glad you find the fact that my sister shot me so funny." I chuckled.

"Oh, come on, you laughed when you told me that story months ago." Jess playfully nudged me.

"You must have embarrassing stories from when you were little, Jess?" Gemma smiled.

"I broke my Mum's favourite vase when I was about 5 or 6 and I tried to glue it back together," She smiled, "only I couldn't find the glue so I used honey instead."

"How did that work out, baby?" I smiled.

"Well, better than you'd think to start with but the table the vase sat on caught the sunlight from about midday so... my glue melted. I can still see my Mum's face as bits of her favourite vase slid to the floor." We all laughed.

"Where in London did you live Jess?" Gemma asked.

"Wharton Street, close to King's Cross. I loved that house." Jess replied, cuddling in closer.

"Your Mum worked in finance, right?" I tried to get Gem's attention to get her to stop, but she wasn't looking at me.

"Uh huh. She was a broker." I could tell by Jessi's voice and demeanor she was getting more and more uncomfortable, she had practically burried herself in my chest.

"So Gem, what are you planning to do while you're in New York?" I quickly changed the subject before she asked anymore questions and I stroked Jessi's hair as I knew that helped her relax.

"Oh, we are definitely going on a girl's night, me, Jess and Lori. No boys. No talking about boys. I warned Jess and Lori they'll have to do a shot if they mention yours or Niall's names. I predict carnage as Miss Monroe over there barely shuts up about you for five seconds." Gem laughed.

"I don't talk about him that much." Jess protested.

"You do but don't worry he's exactly the same with you, occasionally he'll just zone out of a conversation and sit there with a dopey grin on his face while he thinks about you."

"Thanks Gem. I'm loving my decision to invite you here for the day." I rolled my eyes sarcastically.

"I know. I don't know how you survive without me. Well, I'm gonna jump in the shower before we head out for dinner. You guys don't mind if I use - no - nevermind, I'll use the guest room shower." Gem yelled as she headed upstairs.

"Why did she change her mind?" Jess asked as she shuffled down the sofa so her back was leaning against my chest.

"She realised what we might have been doing in there." We both laughed.

"Did you ask about my Birthday again?" Jess asked with hope in her voice once we'd stopped laughing.

"Yeah. Still no luck, Baby." I felt bad lying, but I had everything sorted for her surprise now.

"I hate that I don't know when I'll see you again. It's easier when I have a date to look forward to." She sighed, pulling my arm tight around her.

"I know. We have a break in the summer though." I kissed the top of her head.

"That's ages away. Maybe I could come visit you for my Birthday?" She spun round to face me, looking pretty pleased with herself. Shit! What should I say?

"Uhm..." My mind went blank.

"Urgh! Forget it! I thought you might like to spend my birthday with me, that's all." She huffed. She turned away from me and crossed her arms across her chest.

"Jessi, you know I would. But I don't know how much free time I would have and besides Danny and Lori have planned a nice dinner for you, it wouldn't be fair to cancel on them." I pulled her back into a hug.

"I know. I'm sorry. I just - I really wanted to spend my birthday with you." She sighed.

"Me too." I smiled, little did she know I wouldn't miss it for the world. "Come on, let's go get ready for dinner."

"Oh, I think I might wear that outfit you bought me earlier." She smiled as she jumped up off the sofa.

"Well, in that case I might wear the outfit you bought me." I smiled.

"Well, this restaurant better watch out because we're gonna look fucking amazing!" She giggled and sprinted up the stairs. I smiled as I followed her, I had no doubt she would look fucking amazing. I knew I had to buy that D&G dress with the peony flower print on it as soon as I saw it and I loved the bright yellow Gucci trousers she'd picked out for me.

"So tell me, if Jessi wasn't dating Harry, which guy in here would she go for? What's her type?" Gemma asked. Jessi had gone to the toilet. I looked around.

"Hmm... which guy in here looks like the biggest asshole? That's exactly who Jess would go for, it's what she thought she deserved." I sighed, glad that was over, Jess finally had a man she deserved and who deserved her.

"Like that guy?" Gemma laughed and pointed to a guy downing a yard of beer and then he acted as if he'd just cured cancer when he finished it. He had on a t-shirt that said Female Body Inspector on it and there was more product on his head than hair.

"Yeah probably somebody exactly like him." I giggled. I looked away as the asshole caught us looking at him.

"Shit, I bet he thinks we like him now." Gemma laughed.

"Obviously, why else would we be looking at him?" I rolled my eyes sarcastically.

"So we need anymore drinks? What are you two laughing at?" Jess smiled, appearing beside us.

"Shots!" Gemma yelled.

"And we're just glad you found Harry, that's all." I grinned. A smile took over her face at the mention of his name, it was adorable. I'd never seen her so in love before, it made me happy.

"Me too." She smiled and took one of the shots Gemma had handed her.

"Hello Ladies!" The Douche was now standing behind us.

"Nice t-shirt." Jessi rolled her eyes at him.

"Nice body." He smirked.

"Thanks, my boyfriend seems to like it." She replied.

"You all have great assets." The Douche turned his attention to me and Gemma.

"Listen Dude, don't even start on them. This one has a boyfriend, and this is my boyfriend's sister so if you even look at her I'll poke your eyes out and make sure you never see another female body in your life, got it?" Jessi looked him right in the eye, even although he was much taller than her.

-----

"All right short ass, don't have a coronary!" The Douche snorted before he headed back to his friends.

"So what was Tom Hardy like?" I asked Jess as we sipped our cocktails. Gemma was talking to a guy she spotted earlier. Jess kept glancing over at them.

"Huge." Jess smiled. "Well, not huge but he was taller than me and he is solid muscle."

"Everyone is taller than you." I giggled.

"Shut up! But he was sweet, not as scary as you'd think." She nudged me with her elbow before glancing over at Gemma again.

"She's okay, you know?" I giggled at how protective she was being.

"Yeah, I know but I promised Harry I'd look after her," Her face suddenly fell into a smirk, "please don't tell her I said his name, I can't take anymore shots." Jess giggled.

"Me neither. I'm so happy you are with him. It's nice to see you so happy." I smiled.

"Well, it's nice to be happy. I suppose I should really thank you for going behind my back and telling him where I was that night." She squeezed my arm.

"You're welcome." I smirked.

"Seriously though, Thank you. I know how much you liked him." She hugged me tight.

"This will sound weird but I've been thinking-" I started.

"Go on," She smiled, taking a sip of her Strawberry Mojito.

"Well, as soon as I knew he liked you, which was obvious the minute we stepped up to the autograph table, he couldn't take his eyes off you. Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yeah, as soon as I realised he liked you it was like a switch went off in my head, I knew it was my job to bring you both together, I knew you'd be perfect for each other and I found Niall. Who is so perfect for me, it's crazy I didn't see it before." I smiled, Niall was definitely my soulmate.

"I love you, you're crazy but I love you." Jess giggled, hugging me tight. She was definitely drunk. I think all those shots Gemma had been making her do were taking their toll.

----------

Harry

I flung my arm out to silence my phone, but I realised it was Jess calling so I answered straight away, I missed her. She'd been gone for four days now and from what I'd heard she'd been out with Lori and Gem almost every night.

"Hey Baby!" I smiled as I answered.

"HARRY!" She yelled down the phone and I could tell from her slurring that she was drunk. "I LOVE YOU!"

"I love you too but why are you yelling?" I chuckled.

"Oops! Sorry." She giggled. "I love you." She whispered.

"You're so drunk. Are the girls with you?" I suddenly worried she was all alone, drunk. Anyone could take advantage of her.

"I'm not drunk. Gem says she's the best Styles, but she's wrong." Jess replied not answering my question well enough.

"Thanks Jess, but Gem is there with you, yeah?"

"GEM! HARRY WANTS YOU!" She yelled, almost deafening me. I pulled the phone away from my ear.

"Yes, baby brother?" Gem sang into the phone, she sounded as drunk as Jess.

"I'm just checking my wasted girlfriend wasn't wandering around New York by herself." I chuckled.

"We're all in my hotel room. Jess says I'm cooler than you." Gem laughed.

"Sure Gem, can I have Jess back now, please?" I smiled. I could just imagine the carnage in her hotel room.

"Nope, she's mine." Gem laughed hysterically.

"Harry?" I smiled as I heard Jessi's voice.

"Hi, what are you doing?" I got up and headed downstairs to make a coffee.

"Dancing. I'm tired though. Can you give me a cuddle?" She whined.

"I wish I could, Baby." I smiled as I made my way around the kitchen, gathering everything I needed for my coffee.

"It's fine. Just fly over, give me a massive hug and fly back. It'll be really fast." She yawned.

"I miss you." I wished with all my heart I was with her.

"Miss you too... hug me Harry." I could tell she was falling asleep.

"Just imagine I'm there with you. I've got you. My arms are wrapped around you." I looked down to find I'd wrapped my arms around thin air. I smiled as I pictured Jess there.

"That's nice..." Her voice trailed off and her breathing slowed.

"Night baby girl." I smiled before hanging up the phone. I was relieved I'd be seeing her in just over a week. I don't think I could survive much longer. Being away from her felt like it caused me actual physical pain and everything was just a bit worse without her. I had no doubt she was my soulmate and without her I felt lost and empty.

----------

Jessi

Gemma had been gone for a long time so I got up to check on her. I smiled when I found her asleep on her bed. She'd been here for just over a week now and we'd been out for five nights out of seven. I was glad when she'd decided to stay in tonight, I still felt ill from last night. I pulled the covers over her and jumped as my phone rang. I hurried out of the room and quickly answered it.

"Hello?" I whispered, closing Gem's door quietly.

"Hi Baby, why are you whispering?" Harry said and a huge grin spread across my face.

"Gem's asleep. Didn't want to wake her." I smiled.

"Oh. So what you got planned for the rest of your evening?"

"Nothing much. I'll probably just chill here." I wished Harry was here.

"Jessi, you're not still sleeping on the sofa in Gem's hotel, are you? Go home, get some proper rest. Gem's a big girl." Harry complained.

"You told me to look after her. This is me looking after her, if you don't like it then you can come and do it yourself and while you're here, you can look after me too." I pouted.

"Fine, sleep on the couch." He chuckled.

"Fine, I will." I sassed back.

"I played the guys your song today." I could tell he was smiling.

"If I could fly, I'd be coming right back home to you, I think I might, give up everything just ask me to." I sang down the phone.

"Pay attention I hope that you listen, cause I let my guard down, right now I'm completely defenseless." I couldn't stop grinning as he sang back to me. It was still hard to believe this song was about me, I'd listened to it every day since he shared it with me. "I should have got you to sing it to the guys, I think you know the words better than me." He joked.

"It's so pretty. I love it. What did they say?" I knew they'd love it.

"They were all really impressed, we're sure it'll be on the new album," He said proudly. "You're okay if we use it on the album, aren't you?"

"Yes. The world needs to hear that song besides it doesn't belong to me, it's yours." I smiled.

"I wouldn't have been able to write it without you." I smiled wider at his words.

"I love you, Harry."

"I love you too."

"So what else did you do? Did you guys work on any other songs?" I loved listening to him talk about his work, he was always so happy.

"Oh, we were actually given this really cool song, it's not something we'd normally do but I think it could be awesome once we've tweaked it, so it suits us more."

"Ooh that sounds interesting." I realised I was still smiling like crazy but I couldn't stop.

"Yeah. Niall has written a great little song, it has a similar vibe to Act my Age. Urgh, I'm rabbiting on, aren't I?" He sighed.

"No, I love hearing you talk about work and I love Act my Age, it's so much fun." I smiled.

"It is, right? So how's everything with your work? Did you go over those job opportunities for when you finish college?" He asked.

"Uh yeah. They all look amazing but there is one I like the sound of more than the others, it's in the live music department and it would mean I'd get to photograph more concerts and potentially tour with someone, that would be cool but I don't have to apply yet. Justin said he could get me more experience with that sort of thing though. He reckons I might be able to photograph a live show sometime next week." I smiled.

"That's awesome Jessi, I'm so proud of you." He smiled.

"Thank you, but I haven't done anything yet and I'm 90% sure the only reason I am being offered these opportunities is because you were so good at charming my boss."

"Bullshit! Stop putting yourself down, he'd heard about how awesome your work was before I even opened my mouth. And if I thought for one second they'd only offered you those jobs because of me then I'd tell you to get the fuck out of there because you deserve to be somewhere where they can see how talented you are." Harry ranted.

"Jesus, H. Calm down." I sighed.

"Sorry, I really wish you weren't so hard on yourself sometimes." I could hear voices in the background.

"I'm sorry. I try not to be." I sighed.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have snapped at you." He sighed.

"It's okay. Stop apologising. I miss having my one man cheer team around. You definitely make me feel more confident." I smiled.

"Miss you too." He sounded happier.

"Are you listening to music?" I asked, I figured that was the voices I could hear.

"Yeah. The Stereophonics." I could tell he was smiling.

"Oh yeah? You like them?" I had mentioned them the last time we spoke.

"Yeah. Are you so lonely? You don't even know me, but you'd like to stone me!" He sang back.

"Mr. Writer. One of my Mum's favourites. You should have seen her that night they played in the Ace. Total Fangirl!" I chuckled. I swear she'd have ran off with Kelly Jones, no questions asked.

"My Mum is exactly the same with Lionel Richie." Harry chuckled.

"You're once, twice, three times a lady" I sang. Lori's Mum and Dad always played this song at parties.

"And I love you so." Harry sang back, making me grin like an idiot.

"I love that you have a weird taste in music like me." I replied.

"My Mum likes to call it eclectic." A knock at the door interrupted our conversation.

"Hold on there's somebody at the door." I headed towards the door and I could hear Lori on the other side.

"Come on, hurry and let me in. I have Pizza and wine." She yelled.

"Who is it? Tell them to go away. You're mine." Harry chuckled.

"It's Lori." I smiled opening the door.

"Is that Harold? Tell him to get off the phone. You're mine and Gem's now." Lori giggled.

"Tell Lori they'll have to fight me." Harry replied.

"Harry says he'll fight you." I put my phone on speaker.

"Me and Gem could take him." Lori laughed as Gemma walked out of the bedroom.

"We could take who? Oooh pizza and wine!" Gemma said.

"Harry." Lori smiled.

"Oh yeah. I know all his weaknesses." Gemma laughed.

"And I know yours!" Harry countered.

"And I know Lori's!" I smiled.

"Oh, did you hear that Gem, she's siding with Harry. Sounds like somebody doesn't want any pizza?" Lori teased.

"Well, I better be going. So you can have Jessi all to yourself, for now." Harry chuckled.

"Bye Harry, we love you." Gemma giggled.

"I love you guys too!" Harry chuckled, "take care of my girl."

"Love you!" I yelled.

"Love you more, Baby." Harry replied, "I'll call you in the morning."

"Urgh. You go all mushy around my brother. It's disgusting!" Gemma teased.

"I think it's cute." Lori playfully poked me in the side.

"Shut up!" I felt my cheeks blushing. "Now where is this Pizza?"

----------

It was my Birthday tomorrow. I should have been excited, but I wasn't. I was more than a little bummed out that Harry wouldn't be there and since my Mum died birthdays, just haven't been the same. I let out a self-pitying sigh as I climbed into bed and waited for Harry's usual nightly phone call. "Come on Jessi, get a grip." I mumbled to myself. My birthday wouldn't be so bad. I had a nice dinner with Danny and Lori planned and Gemma would even be there since her time in New York had been extended. I smiled as I heard my notification tone, Harry often messaged to let me know he'd call in five minutes or so. I snatched up the phone and opened the message and my heart sank as I read the message.

"Sorry, Baby. Crazy busy. I'll call you in the morning. First thing x."

"Happy Birthday!"

I threw my phone back on the bedside table and roughly fluffed up my pillows before throwing my head down on them. Great! Harry's phonecall was the one thing I was looking forward to, now I had to wait all the way until morning. This Birthday was not off to a good start.
