Seventy-Four
Jessi
"Wow! It looks fantastic!" Anne smiled as I showed her around the nursery. "You've done an amazing job, Jessi." Her fingers brushed over the soft pink blanket that hung on the edge of the crib, Harry's fingers always made a beeline for that particular blanket too.
"Harry helped. Couldn't have done it without him." I grinned. "Oh, you should see his old cradle. He's done such a good job with it, come see?" I wrapped my hand around her wrist and pulled her out of the nursery, quickly covering the short distance to our bedroom. "You'd never know it used to be walnut."
"Slow down, Jess. It's not going anywhere." Anne chuckled.
"Baby? Whe - Mum?" Harry paused in his fluffy bathrobe but Anne wasn't paying him any attention. Her eyes had zoned in on the cradle. "Oh shit! You did this Harry?" Her voice wobbled, and I wrapped my arms around her.
"Yeah. Don't you like it?" Harry climbed over the bed towards us rather than walk around it.
"I love it, Harry. You did a fantastic job. I can't believe this is that pile of wood I gave you? I remember rocking you and Gemma to sleep in this." He wrapped us both in a hug as Anne quietly sobbed. I squeezed her tight. I felt a lot more relaxed now we had everything ready. The Nursery was finished and my hospital bag was packed. Apparently, Robin could make her appearance any day now but her official due date wasn't for a few weeks, the 29th of January.
"I can't wait to rock Robi to sleep in it." Harry said, his voice ruffling my hair.
"I can't wait to see that. I love you guys so much." Anne replied and now I had tears rolling down my cheeks too. The image of Harry rocking our baby girl to sleep in the cradle that used to belong to him and Gemma was too perfect. He'd been great these past few weeks, picking up the slack when I physically couldn't do anymore. He'd taken care of Christmas dinner almost entirely on his own and made sure everyone had a good time. He went to the shops to find me Nursing Pads when my boobs started leaking which caused me to have a complete emotional breakdown because it ruined my favourite maternity shirt.
"Is Danny going to the Gym later?" Harry asked once we'd managed to control our tears.
"Yeah. He said he'd come get you when he's heading." He was staying with Anne for a few weeks since our guest rooms were still a work in progress. I think she was enjoying having the company.
"Awesome. When are you guys heading? Do you know when you'll be back?" Harry asked, his hand resting on my lower back. We were meeting up with Gem and Lori for a spa day in Manchester. A Mani-Pedi and a massage were just what the Doctor ordered.
"We are heading now and never you mind, we'll be back when we're back." Anne teased but I could tell Harry was anxious. His fingers ran over his rings as he bit the inside of his cheek.
"Hey, don't worry. I'll be fine." I wrapped my hand around his and he pulled me closer, the side of my body pressed up against his front.
"I know but what if something happens? The baby could come anytime now, you'll be a whole hour away from me. What if I can't get there? What if you fall or somebody bumps into you or -"
"Hey, hey, hey!" I slid my hand out of his to cup his cheeks and tilt his head down to look at me. "I'll be okay and if anything happens then your Mum, Gem and Lori will be there. They'll get me to the hospital, we'll meet you there." I pulled his head down and kissed the tip of his nose which made him smile.
"I know I'm over-reacting but this is the furthest away from me you've been in ages, I like having you and Robi close." He wrapped his arms around me and squeezed me as tightly as he could.
"I promise to look after her." Anne grinned. I felt him relax a little as he placed a kiss to my head. I hoped he wouldn't worry too much.
-----
"Is that Harry again?" Lori snatched my phone from my hand.
"Give that back!" I frowned and then scowled when I spotted her slide it into her pocket.
"You can have it back once we're finished here, Harry does not need updates every five minutes." Lori said and a part of me knew she was right but that didn't change the fact that I now felt anxious without it and I didn't want Harry to worry so we'd been texting a lot, sometimes it was just an emoji but I hoped it was keeping him calm. His replies were coming almost instantly.
"I agree with Lori." Gem added. "Relax, have a good time."
"I know but you can't - he won't know what happened. You'll make him worry." I bounced on my heels and clenched my fists at my side.
"Lori! Give it back!" Anne interrupted. "Why don't you two go get your facials while me and Jess go for our massages?" They agreed and left us to it and when I got my phone back I realised I had three texts from Harry. A heart eyes emoji, then a sad face and finally, "are you okay?"
"It's a little excessive, isn't it?" I glanced at Anne and she smiled at me.
"Maybe, a little?" She chuckled. I sent Harry a reply and explained that I was about to have my massage so he wouldn't hear from me for a while.
"Are those the earrings Harry got you for Christmas?" Anne asked as they showed us into the Treatment Room.
"Yeah." I grinned as I pinched the blue Sapphire and Diamond studs between my thumb and forefinger. They were ridiculously beautiful. A gorgeous pear cut Sapphire surrounded by Diamonds.
"So you like them then?" She asked, and I looked at her as if she had grown another head.
"Of course, I love them."
"Hmm... it's just when you opened them on Christmas you looked a little... I don't know. I just figured you didn't like them?" She shrugged. Damn. I had tried to hide the fact that they weren't what I had anticipated when I opened that small square box.
"I uhm - I was expecting something different." I said honestly.
"Not a Joni Mitchell CD kind of different?" She said, and we both laughed at her Love Actually reference.
"No, not that but something else that comes in a small square box. I know it's stupid but when I saw it, I kinda thought - you know?" I spoke quietly as my heart thundered along, like a train with no brakes. I hadn't realised how much I wanted him to ask me those four words until I opened the lid and found these earrings.
"Is that what you want? You could always ask him?" Anne quirked an eyebrow at me.
"I don't think Harry would like that." I replied as we got ready for our massages. Harry was very traditional sometimes and I'm sure he'd feel that proposing was very much his domain.
"You're probably right. Have you spoken to him about marriage?" Anne asked before our massage therapists came back into the room, putting this conversation on pause. Maybe I should find a way to bring it up? We hadn't really spoken about it since Mitch told me about Harry's previous plans.

Working out with Danny made me feel like an absolute wimp. I mean he was over there doing some push-ups with an actual fucking chain around his neck and here was me running on the treadmill. I smiled at the crowd of women who had gathered near him, their own workouts had quickly been abandoned as they watched the show. He hadn't even noticed them; he had zoned out completely, his headphones blocking out the noise.
I increased the speed on the and incline on the treadmill and got back to trying to think about anything other than Jess being so far away. The next song on my playlist was one Jess had put on there, a cover Rihanna's Stay by Thirty Seconds to Mars. I liked it, his voice suited this song.
"Hey H! Want me to spar with you?" Danny's voice startled me. I nodded as I slowed the treadmill, I enjoyed sparring with him. I knew I could hit him as hard as I liked and he wouldn't flinch. He walked towards the ring and I followed behind him.
"Danny?" I asked as he helped me strap up my hands.
"Yeah son?" He smiled.
"If I was to - uhm - I'd still have your permission, right?" My throat went dry as I tried to find the words. Why was talking to him about this still so fucking terrifying?
"Have my permission for what?" He looked at me with his brows knitted together.
"To ask Jess to marry me?"
"Course you do, son!" He chuckled and pulled me into a bone-crushing hug. Now I just had to find the right time to ask her.

"But Baby, I don't want to go out!" Harry whined as his hand lazily traced circles on my back. We were lying on the sofa watching West Side Story. My head resting against his thigh as his fingers wandered from place to place on my body, stopping to trace patterns on my skin whenever the mood took him.
"It's your Birthday, Harry. You should go out. Have a good time. You deserve it." He really did, he'd been taking such good care of me. Of us. My hand reached down to rub over my bump. She was now technically two days late and making me ridiculously uncomfortable.
"But I just want to be here with you. Robi could come any second now." His hand moved to join mine, rubbing soft circles against the exposed skin since I'd hoisted my t-shirt up. My body seemed incapable of deciding whether it was too hot or too cold.
"How about a dinner? Gem and Michal are visiting." The calming touch of his skin on mine was making me sleepy.
"Tell you what, I'll go out for dinner if you come. I'm not leaving you sitting home alone." I could hear the smirk in his voice.
"Okay fine." If it meant he'd go out and relax a little, then it would be worth it.

Harry
"Hmm... you look beautiful, Baby." I smiled as I watched her slip on her ballet pumps. The cute pink and green splash patterned dress looked great on her.
"You too." She smiled as she walked towards me. I knew this was one of her favourite outfits, black jeans, rainbow loafers and a red silk shirt. "I love you." She whispered, placing a kiss between my Swallows.
"I love you too." I cupped her cheeks in my hands and planted a kiss on her lips. "So much." My lips curved into a smile against hers. "You sure you're up to this?"
"Positive. Let's go Birthday Boy!" She sucked my bottom lip into her mouth and nibbled it softly before turning on her heels and walking towards the door. My eyes landed on her arse as she waddled along in front of me. My dick twitched in my pants so I tore my eyes away. It would be a long dinner if I was sitting there with a raging hard on all night.
-----
My eyes widened as we walked in to the George and Dragon and I spotted our table. As well as my Mum, Dad, Juliet, Gem and Michal, Niall was there, Fred and Jamie, Mitch and Sarah, Jeffrey and Glenne and Sara. "Did you do all this?" I smiled as I looked at Jess.
"Figured you deserved some lovin' on your Birthday, especially since you've been heaping all of yours on me and the stubborn little lady who won't come out of my body." She grinned as we walked towards the table, her hand firmly held in mine. Our group more or less took over the Restaurant. I made my way round everyone, hugging them tightly and beaming with pride as they all fussed over Jessi.
"Lori is really sorry she couldn't make it, H." Niall held me up as Jessi continued to make her way around the table. I chuckled as she got surrounded by Mitch, Sarah, Fred, Jamie and Sara. Clearly they'd got bored waiting. Jessi had completely disappeared from sight, lost somewhere in the middle.
"Don't worry about it Niall, thanks for coming. Missed you guys." I grinned. But my eyes were drawn towards Jessi's interaction with Jeffrey and Glenne. Jeffrey was hugging her tightly but Glenne, wasn't exactly being unfriendly but there was definitely a stiffness to the embrace. What the hell was that about? I'd have to find out about that later.
-----
"You okay, teeny?" Fred flopped down in the seat beside me. "Quiet."
"Just really uncomfortable, it feels like she's pressing on all of my organs." I flinched as I felt another twinge.
"Sounds fun. Why don't you go home? Harry would understand." Fred patted my bump softly.
"But if I go then so will Harry and he's having a good time, he needs time to just be Harry, you know?" I smiled as he laughed with Niall and Jeffrey.
"You look roasting." Jamie declared as he sat down in Fred's lap, their arms instantly wrapping around each other.
"Thanks." I chuckled. " I feel really warm." I tried to fan myself with a piece of paper but it wasn't doing much good. I winced as I felt another twinge, this one was much more painful and then I momentarily froze as I felt the dampness between my legs. No, no, no. Not here. I looked around the crowded Pub and wanted the ground to just swallow me up.
"I need Harry, can you get me Harry?" I reached out and grabbed an arm, I wasn't sure if it was Jamie's or Fred's. I held my head in my hands as I felt the tears roll down my cheeks. I jumped as I heard Jamie's voice yell for Harry over the noise of the crowd and I sobbed louder, I meant they should go get him, I didn't want to draw more attention.
"Baby?" I heard Harry's voice. "Jess, what's wrong?" I felt his legs brush against mine as his fingers slowly pulled my hands apart. I opened my eyes to find him crouched in front of me.
"The baby is coming, Harry." I sniffled.
"Are you sure?" His eyes went as wide as saucers as his hands held mine tightly.
"Uhm... yeah. My water broke. I can't get up. Everyone will see." I whispered in his ear and when I pulled back, I saw he was smiling. It wasn't funny.
"It's okay, Jess. Nobody will see, I promise but you have to get up because you can't have Robi here. Just wait right here and when I get back, we will get up and head to the car, yeah? Your hospital bag is in there so you can get changed, if you want to. Okay, hold tight!" He smiled before he disappeared. How in the hell was he so calm? My heart was racing, thumping completely out of sync with anything. The baby was coming! I was going to have to push out a fucking baby! Oh hell! I wasn't ready for this! "Ready?" Harry's face appeared in front of mine and I shook my head just as my stomach began to cramp. It quickly passed but Harry was right I couldn't have our baby here.
"You got this, Jess! And I'll be right here, I promise." Harry said, placing a soft kiss to my nose before his hands wrapped around mine and he lifted me carefully from the chair. Once I had stood up, he moved to my side and wrapped his arm around my waist, carefully guiding me out of the pub. I relaxed a little as I realised he had gotten Anne and Danny to follow behind us so nobody would see me.
"I - you're amazing." I hugged myself into his body. "I don't know how I ever thought I could live without you."
-----
Harry somewhat haphazardly parked the car before rushing out and hurrying around to my side of the car. I'd changed into a pair of loose sweatpants and an oversized version of Harry's TPWK tour shirts. I clung to his body as he helped me out, another contraction made me feel queasy. So far the pain wasn't too bad. As Harry helped me inside the hospital I was feeling quietly confident that I could do this.
-----
"You're doing so well, baby!" Harry said as he rubbed an ice cube over my forehead and down the bridge of my nose.
"Why won't she come out, Harry?" I cried. Twenty hours we'd been here, and I was still only seven centimetres dilated. I felt like I was on fire, I was exhausted, my contractions now hurt like hell, imagine period cramps multiplied by 100 and to top it off apparently labour made me vomit. They don't show you that on TV.
"She's coming. Just a little while longer, Love. You must have made her such a lovely home in there she doesn't want to leave." Harry's voice was the constant in the room, it didn't matter what he was saying just that he was saying it, I'd locked onto his calm voice and concentrated on only that, not the beeping from the heart monitor, not the nurses rushing around, chatting, not the cries of the other women, just Harry. I looked up at him and he looked almost as exhausted as I imagined I did and he was still looking at me as if I was the most wonderful thing he'd ever seen even although I was sure I looked like shit and he'd witnessed me puke in a paper bed pan multiple times.
"Good news, Jessi. It's time to take you to the delivery ward." The midwife smiled.
"She's coming?" I gasped.
"She's coming!" Harry grinned, peppering my forehead with kisses.
-----
"Okay, Jessi. I know you're tired but I need a few more big pushes. She's almost here." The midwife said.
"I can't." I huffed.
"Yes, you can." Harry whispered. I felt my next contraction and my body began to push automatically whether I wanted to or not. "That's it, Baby."
"Keep going Jess." The midwife encouraged as Harry wiped away my tears. He handed me some water as my contraction passed and I let out a happy sigh as he rubbed an ice cube across my forehead. I'd never felt so hot and sweaty in all my life.
"You're so warm." He breathed as he brushed my sweaty hair away from my face. I closed my eyes, I just wanted to sleep but my next contraction had other ideas. My fingers squished Harry's as I pushed as hard as I could and just when I felt sure I would give myself an aneurism or something the midwife declared that her head was out.
"That was great, Jess. Another push like that and you'll have your baby."
"Can I?" He nodded towards my feet, I nodded my head, to be honest I wasn't entirely sure what he was asking. I felt drunk or woozy or some combination of the two. My hand reached for his as it slipped from my grip. "Holy shit! I can see her Jessi!"
"Harry!" I whined as I felt my next contraction.
"Sorry Baby!" He beamed as he rushed back towards me, his hand squishing mine. "She's so... she's a baby, Jessi!" His words made me chuckle as I tried to concentrate.
"Push Jessi!" The midwife said and the sound of my baby crying suddenly filled the room. I reached out for her as the midwife tucked her inside my nightshirt. She felt so soft against my skin. Her crying quieting down as mine and Harry's hands tried to hold as much of her as possible.
"She's so amazing. So pretty. I love her so much." I blurted out, her purple skin quickly turning pink from the heat of my body.
"You both look so beautiful. The most beautiful things I have ever seen." Harry said, his head pressed to mine as tears fell softly down his cheeks. "You're so fucking amazing!" He hugged me tight, and I whimpered as the midwife picked Robin up.
"Just going to borrow her for a second." She smiled. My eyes stayed glued on the Doctors as they poked and prodded my baby and when she began to cry I tried to climb out of the bed to get to her.
"Woah, Jess! You just had a baby. Relax!" Harry held me tight.
"Okay Mum, you should check if she's hungry?" The midwife's voice instructed as she handed my little angel back. She was wrapped up in a pink blanket and I pulled my shirt down further and tried to get her to latch on, like I'd read in the parenting books. My emotions got the better of me when I thought she wasn't going to, it felt like she was rejecting me.
"Hey, don't cry, baby! Maybe she just isn't hungry?" Harry sat down on the bed beside me, his hand cradling Robin's head and this new angle suddenly made her latch on and I let out a little "oh" at the feeling. I relaxed as I heard her make the most adorable little snuffling sounds. I gazed down at her in wonder, nestled safely in my arms, Harry's large hand cradling her head and then I saw his pinky being held tightly in her little fist. I'd never been happier in my entire life. I loved these two people so so much.
