Fifty-Nine
Harry
The time blinking on the phone screen startled me as I answered the phone, 11am?! I hadn't slept this late in - I don't know how long? I held the phone to my ear and tried not to wake Jess who was breathing softly against my chest.
"Hi!" I mumbled, carefully detangling myself from Jessi, even although that's the last thing I wanted to do. I looked down at her laying on my sofa looking more spectacular than any work of art I'd seen and then she let out a little whimper and I scarpered off to the spare bedroom, well it was my bedroom now. I still couldn't sleep in our old bedroom. It haunted me.
"Harry? It's Mum. Jessi isn't answering her phone. We're starting to get worried. Gem said she was going out with a male friend last night and nobody has seen or heard from her since?" I could hear the panic in my Mum's voice.
"Mum, it's okay. She's with me. We ended up at the same party and she stayed with me last night. Her phone must be on silent or out of charge or something because I haven't heard it ring."
"Oh, thank God. Robin she's with Harry. I don't know. Harry, why is Jess with you?" I knew what they were thinking.
"We're friends Mum, friends are allowed to hang out." I sighed.
"You two can never be just friends, you love each other too much. This is a good sign." I could feel her getting carried away.
"Anyway, she'll hate me again once she finds out that I've been keeping your huge secret from her. You need to tell her." I regretted showing her my journal as soon as I saw her eyes lock onto Ever Since New York. It was as if she could smell a secret a mile off.
"Robin will tell her but he wants to wait until he sees her-" My Mum replied, her voice suddenly tinged with sadness.
"I can't hide it from her until Christmas!" I complained. My Mum had made it perfectly clear a few weeks ago that Jess would spend Christmas with us and that I could either suck it up or go spend it with my Dad because my Mum was not leaving her to spend Christmas on her own. Apparently Jess had tried to wriggle out of it too but, had been met with the same immovable, stone wall.
"No, we're coming for Niall and Lori's party. Jess invited us, even your Dad's coming."
"Dad's coming?" He blamed Jess for everything and he didn't exactly hide how he felt. "And you can't tell her at the party."
"Yeah, Jess invited him and he said he's going. And we'll be there for about a week, we'll find a good time to tell her, I promise."
"Hey, there you are!" Jessi's voice startled me and I almost dropped the phone.
"Jesus Jess, you scared me half to death!" I clutched my chest.
"Is that your Mum? Let me talk to her!" She grabbed the phone off me before I could utter another word.
"Hey, did you get your invitations?" She smiled.
"Awesome. I miss you guys. I think I might come visit for a bit after the party, if that's okay?" She looked so excited but I couldn't help but frown, what they had to tell her would devastate her. I was already trying to be strong for Mum and Gem, I just hoped I could find the strength to be there for her too.
"Des is coming too? Yay, Harry will be pleased." She smiled at me and I produced the best smile I could for her. She could have so easily left my Dad off the guest list and nobody would have blamed her, in fact nobody would have noticed, he wasn't exactly a constant presence in my life but he tried, I guess.
"Yeah, he still wants us to go as Ariel and Eric!" She giggled.
"Well, I might as well, it's not like I'll be bringing a date." My heart twinged at the thought. I threw myself down on the bed, this conversation could take a while.
"Shell boobs and tail has to be the way to go, right?" On second thoughts I'll go make us breakfast, the thought of Jessi in shell boobs and a tail were making me way hornier than necessary.
-----
I flipped the second omelette onto the plate as I felt my phone being pressed to my ear. I relaxed against her body which was pressed up against mine, her free hand wrapped around me to grip the counter, I assume to hold herself steady as I pictured her on her tippy toes.
"Harry?" I heard my Mum's voice.
"Yeah?"
"I love you."
"I love you too Mum. I guess I'll be seeing you in a few weeks?" I smiled.
"I can't wait. Give Jess a hug and a kiss for us."
"Will do. Bye Mum!"
"Bye Sweetheart!" She hung up and Jess pulled the phone away from my ear. I turned off the cooker and Jess spun me round. I didn't get a chance to speak before she flung her arms around me and pulled me down to kiss my cheek. I kissed her cheek and then squeezed her tight but before I could enjoy the moment too much, she'd pulled away and lifted her plate from the counter.
"Are you busy today?" She asked sitting down at the breakfast bar.
"Not especially, why?" I smiled, sitting myself down beside her.
"I found this awesome little shop that does centrepieces and stuff. I know that's on your list of things to do but do you want to go check it out together?" I could tell she was excited about it and I really had nothing planned so I nodded. I'd missed this. I missed spending time with her.
"I've missed your omelettes. Mine never turn out this good." She hummed as she scooped up another piece, her eyes softly closing as she savoured every mouthful. She poked her tongue out and scooped a tiny crumb she'd missed and I groaned. "See? So good!" She hummed, and I felt relieved she hadn't caught me out. I forced my eyes away from her and concentrated on breakfast.
----------
"Can we look yet?" Lori clutched Niall's hand tightly as we stood them facing each other in the middle of the venue for their party. The guests wouldn't be arriving for another half hour.
"Not yet." Jessi giggled, she was enjoying torturing them. They didn't even know what they were wearing as Jess had made them get ready blindfolded. I helped Niall into his Prince Philip costume, and she had helped Lori into her Princess Aurora one.
"I swear if you've ruined my engagement party I will kill you!" Lori groaned.
"Okay. One, two, three!" We removed their blindfolds, and I smirked as Niall's eyes widened when he saw Lori. I didn't know where Jess had got their outfits but they both looked amazing. I hoped mine and Jessi's looked just as good. I'd thrown an actual hissy fit when she'd claimed the costumes as one of her tasks.
"Oh my God! Babe! You look beautiful!" Niall exclaimed.
"So do you." Lori kissed him and then her eyes turned as wide as saucepans as she looked around the room.
"Guys, this is amazing. I can't believe you did all this. Seriously. Do you want to plan my wedding?" Lori grinned. I couldn't help but agree as we looked around, this morning this was an empty, plain white gallery and now it looked like a palace ballroom fit for a Princess. Jess and I had been working so hard this was the first we'd spent any time together.
"We make a good team." I smiled at Jess.
"We sure do." She smiled back before she turned to Lori, "Now if you'll excuse us, we still have to get ready."
Before we could move Lori had flung her arms around us. "I don't know how to thank you for this, it's perfect. You're the best, best friends anyone could ask for. I love you both so much."
"Hey, don't cry. That mascara isn't waterproof!" Jess giggled and Lori's eyes widened in panic. "I'm joking. Of course it's waterproof. Niall is bound to make you all emotional at some point, couldn't have you all streaky!" She laughed as she grabbed my arm and pulled me along with her. I was kinda excited. I hadn't seen our costumes either. Deep down, I wanted to wear Eric's fancy wedding outfit, but I knew Jessi had her heart set on the shell and tail so she'd probably have got me the casual outfit but so long as Jess was happy I'd wear anything.
"Tada!" She yelled when we reached the dressing area and I couldn't stop grinning when I saw the fancy white and gold suit hanging there. "I know we won't really match perfectly but I knew you'd prefer to wear this."
"Jess, where did you get these? They all look amazing. And you know me too well."
"Uhm... well I cheated a little. Harry helped me, he put me in contact with Alessandro. I had them made, so it should fit you perfectly. I'll see you soon, my Prince." She bowed as she disappeared. I chuckled looking back on my hissy fit now. Turns out I ended up with the outfit I wanted and made by the people I wanted, anyway. God, this woman is perfect!
-----
Jess was right, it did fit me perfectly and I couldn't help but wonder if Dallas would even know what size shirt to buy me? I pushed that thought from my mind as I twisted from side to side, trying to see as much of my outfit as possible.
"Are you ready?" Jessi yelled.
"Yeah!" I replied, I couldn't wait to see what she looked like, but I wasn't prepared for what stepped around the corner. She looked sexy as hell and I had to look away from fear I'd get an erection and there was nowhere to hide that in this outfit. Jess had made the perfect choice in getting Alessandro's help as only his mind could have conjured up a bra made from actual shells and her tail was made up of different shades of green sequins so it glimmered perfectly in the lights, an organza bottom completed the fishtail look. I much preferred Jessi's natural hair to her fake red hair, but it was necessary to complete the outfit.
"Do you think I actually look like a mermaid or does it just look stupid?" She fidgeted nervously. Seriously, how could this woman not have any idea how fantastic she looked?
"You look like the hottest mermaid I've ever seen. Prince Eric is one lucky guy." I smiled.
"Thank you and you look super handsome. Ariel is a very lucky mermaid." Her cheeks were blushing.
"Hey, is that a new tattoo?" My eyes involuntarily trailed dangerously over her body again.
"Oh, yeah." She lifted her arm so I could see the words written on her ribcage. "I have another one too. I'll show you in a second."
"Tell me that you feel." I paused. I cut her off before she could speak, "The Ramones!"
"Yay, finally somebody knows!" She grinned.
"It's your favourite song, how could I not know? Where's the other one?" I smiled, feeling pleased that I'd impressed her.
"You'll have to move my hair." She turned away from me and I carefully moved the long red hair out of the way.
"Ooh, I like that. It's pretty." My fingers gently ran over the pale pink peony on the back of her neck.
"That tickles." She giggled, and I found my eyes wandering again. Come on, Harry, behave! This would be one long party if I kept this up.
-----
Jessi
"Oh my God! Help me! Harry looks too fucking good in that outfit!" I whined to Lori.
"Well then, why don't you get him out of his outfit?" Lori laughed.
"Niall?" I whined.
"I don't want to hear about you fucking my best friend. Too much info." He groaned. The party had been going for a while now and everyone was here.
"Niall, mind your language!" Maura scolded him and I couldn't help but chuckle as he blushed.
"You look amazing!" I heard a voice I didn't recognise and two arms wrapped around me from behind. Both Niall and Lori's faces were a picture. "I can't believe I'm only just meeting you, Jess!" Okay so she knows me but as she hadn't let me go I was no closer to finding out who it was. She finally let me go and I turned round to see a tall woman I didn't recognise. But I noticed that she was also dressed as Ariel, in her pink princess dress.
"I'm Dallas!" She smiled. "We're costume sisters!"
"I'm Jessi!" I forced a smile.
"Have you seen my Prince?" The emphasis she placed on my felt exactly like she intended, like a poker to the heart and I swear she was smirking at me. I pointed in the general direction where I'd seen Harry last.
"Thanks. I can't wait to see him, he looks so hot in that outfit." Yep. She was definitely smirking, but I kept the smile glued on my face until she'd disappeared.
"Urgh! Did you have to invite her?" Lori hugged me.
"She's Harry's girlfriend." I replied, flatly.
"She didn't have to come dressed as Ariel though. What a bitch!" Niall said, looking over his shoulder to make sure his Mum couldn't hear.
"To be fair, she probably should match Harry." I shrugged.
"Stop defending her. She's a lying, cheating, conniving little bitch!" Lori snapped at me.
"It's okay. Go enjoy your party." I smiled, shooing her and Niall away. I looked around at everyone and couldn't stop smiling. Everyone was having so much fun. Anne and Robin had come dressed as Triton and Ursula, Gemma and Michal were Peter Pan and Tinkerbell.
"Would you like to dance?" Danny interrupted me. He looked brilliant. He was the genie from Aladdin and had painted himself blue.
"I'd love too." I couldn't help but laugh as Danny practically flung me around the dance floor, he didn't realise his own strength sometimes.
"By the way, you are way prettier than that other girl!" He yelled so loud a few people near us turned to look at him.
"Thank you!" But as I glanced over my shoulder and saw her cuddled up to Harry, I couldn't help feeling like the loser.
-----
"Harry, I really want those shoes!" Dallas whined. I was trying hard to be nice, but she'd just sent Harry on about three different errands to get her a drink, a napkin and finally a straw.
"Okay, we can go shopping tomorrow Dee." Harry downed his drink.
"And you'll buy me them?" She grinned.
"Whatever you want?" He replied, looking down at his empty glass.
"H, do you want another drink?" I smiled.
"Please?" He returned my smile.
"Urgh. Please don't call him that. I hate it!" Dallas snapped at me.
"Excuse fucking me." I muttered to myself and rolled my eyes as I headed to the bar.
"Hey, hold up!" Liam and Louis yelled after me. They were dressed as Tweedle-Dum and Tweedle-Dee and they looked equal parts hilarious and cute.
"She's horrible." I muttered as they caught up.
"The worst." Liam added.
"I hate how he just goes along with whatever she says. He needs to tell her to fuck off!" Louis snapped.
"It's funny watching how pissed she gets when you talk to him though." Liam chuckled.
"Freddie and I are gonna feed the ducks tomorrow, do you want to come with us?" Louis asked.
"Uhm yeah! When do I not want to see my chunky monkey?" I smiled as I ordered a drink for me and Harry. "Should I get Dallas a drink? What is she drinking?"
"Poison?" Louis smirked.
"Lou!" I chuckled.
"I think she's drinking Chardonnay but I don't know which kind and I would buy her nothing if I were you." Liam said.
"Excuse me?" I waved over a barman.
"How can I help, Beautiful?" He smiled.
"I don't suppose you know what that guy in the white and gold bought do you, it would have been Don Julio and some type of Chardonnay we think?" I tried to say it in a flirty manner, hoping he'd be more inclined to help me. He went to talk to another guy, and I saw him point Harry out before he came back.
"Marisco, King's Legacy." He smiled.
"Thanks, you're a superstar. Could I add a glass of that, please?" He winked at me and was back a few moments later. He handed me the wine and also a napkin with his number on it. I smiled and picked up the rest of my drinks and headed back to the table. Louis and Liam following behind. I handed Harry his drink and sat mine down on the table.
"I got you a drink too Dallas." I smiled handing over the glass. She sniffed it and then I couldn't believe my eyes as she poured the wine into a plant pot.
"It wasn't the right kind." She scowled at me. Harry's mouth had dropped open.
"Marisco, King's Legacy?" I asked. Her eyes widened telling me I was right.
"Yeah, well, it smelt funny. I bet you spat in it because you're jealous that I'm with Harry." She cuddled into his arm but it was clear from the look on his face he wasn't impressed.
"Dee, you better apologise right now, that was so rude!" Harry glared at her.
"I'm - sorry!" She rolled her eyes and I could tell those two little words caused her actual pain to say. She was really testing my patience, but I had to be nice to her for Harry's sake.
"It's okay. Would you like another one?" I smiled as widely as I could manage.
"No thanks, Harry will get me one when I need it." She twirled a strand of her wig around her finger. "Oh and Harry, can I have that dress I saw in Gucci last week?"
"Why can't you buy your own dress?" The words burst from my mouth without my permission. I think something inside me snapped. Why was he letting her walk all over him?
"Well Jessica, not all of us can be so lucky to have somebody die and leave us a small fortune in their will, can we?" I just stood there blinking rapidly. Lucky? And who the hell told her that? I replayed her words over and over in my head, each time I felt myself become more angry. I felt Liam and Louis arms wrap around mine and they dragged me away while I watched Harry do what I wanted to, yell at her!
"Lucky? Lucky? Is she insane? I'd give anything to have my Mum back, even just for one day and she thinks I'm lucky!" I rambled but I couldn't stop. I think I was still in shock.
"Ignore her she's crazy." Liam said.
"That's it she's gone too far. It's time for payback!" Louis had an evil look in his eye as he dragged me and Liam towards Niall.
"Sorry Lori but we need to borrow Niall and Zayn." He grabbed Zayn as he passed. He pushed us all towards the stage. "Jess, you are on Harry's parts, okay?"
"Lou, what are you talking about?" I asked. Everyone else was looking at him blankly too.
"We are going to sing a song for someone in the audience, she knows exactly who she is." Louis said into the microphone. He glared at Dallas too just for good measure. I had a bad feeling about this. "Jess the first verse is yours." He whispered to the DJ and then music started. I recognised it straight away, it was I want. I actually quite liked this song. I sang Harry's part, excluding the lyric change to different dick every night although it seemed quite fitting for Dallas. Singing with the guys was fun. Everyone was enjoying the song but then my eyes fell on Dallas and Harry. She actually looked upset and Harry looked less than impressed. She ran off, and I watched Harry follow her.
"We shouldn't have done that!" I sighed as we got down off the stage.
"She deserved it!" Louis scoffed.
"That was fun!" Niall smiled, I was sure he was oblivious to the fact we were trying to embarrass Dallas. I walked out onto the balcony for some fresh air. I felt terrible.
"Well, I hope you're feeling proud of yourself." I recognised Harry's voice before I even turned around.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset her, and I didn't even really realise what Louis had planned until we were all up there." I couldn't look at him.
"I'm disappointed in you, Jess. I thought if anyone would give her a chance then you would. Now she's in the toilets, probably crying her eyes out."
"Harry, I've tried. Really fucking hard but she's not making it easy for me. She said I was lucky that my Mum was dead for christ's sake?" I raised my voice.
"I know. She's a bitch. You are not. I can't believe you sunk to her level." Harry kept his disappointed tone.
"And what about you? You let her treat you like shit and you don't even stand up for yourself and that kills me. You deserve to be treated like a fucking King and she just treats you like a cash machine." I felt like I could burst into tears at any second.
"Jessi, I'm not all that." He shook his head.
"YES YOU ARE!" I yelled. "I can't watch her walk all over you. I won't." I sighed and headed back inside and straight to the toilets.
"Dallas?" I said as I made my way inside. I found her sitting on the counter beside the sinks, not the slightest bit upset. "H, is looking for you."
"I told you not to call him that," She snarled.
"Sorry, Harry is looking for you, he's worried you're upset." I couldn't force myself to smile at her but I tried to keep my tone neutral.
"Good. Now I can get him to do whatever I want!" She smirked.
"Dallas?"
"Yeah? What is it?" She snapped.
"You have no idea how lucky you are to have him, he's amazing, and he deserves somebody who makes him feel like that every day. Please be kind to him?" I begged, tears were threatening to escape my eyes.
"Well, guess what short ass, he's mine now and I get to treat him exactly as I please and his sole purpose is to get me what I want. How he feels isn't important to me. I liked your little song by the way, you should have used Harry's lyric change though." She smirked and I couldn't stop the tears rolling down my cheeks once she'd left.
"Wow! She's a piece of work! Did she just imply she cheats on my brother?" Gemma made me jump as she appeared from the cubicle.
I nodded. "Harry knows." I sniffled, grabbing a tissue.
"Oh Jessi, don't cry. Harry is big enough and ugly enough to take care of himself." Gemma pulled me into a hug. She let me go and grabbed a tissue and helped me dry my tears.
"Come on, come talk to Mum and Robin, they've been looking for you all night." She took my hand as we walked out the toilets.
-----
"Hey, look who I found?" Gemma chuckled as she dragged me towards Anne, Robin and Michal. A feeling of comfort surrounded me as they all greeted me warmly.
"Hey Sweetheart, you okay?" Anne carefully gripped my chin and tilted my head up to look at her.
"That thing with Harry has to go, Mum." Gemma answered and Anne pulled me into a hug.
"Don't spill your tears over her, Jessi. She's not worth it." Anne's voice soothed as she hugged me tight.
"I'm serious, Mum. We can't let this go on any longer." Gemma persisted.
"And what would you have me do, Gemma? He's a grown man, it's not like I can ground him or take his toys away? And whenever you've had a boyfriend Harry didn't like, did you appreciate him telling you so? No."
"He has to realise that this girl is no good for him on his own, Gem. If we interfere, then we might just push him further away." Robin added.
"Fine, but I don't like it!" Gemma sighed in defeat.
"Mum, Robin, this is Dallas." Harry's voice cut through the tension and my eyes locked on his as Anne and Robin moved to let Harry and Dallas into our group. I could tell he was drunk but not his usual happy, jokey drunk. His eyes were dark, lost somewhere between anger and sadness as he held his glass tightly, the ratio of ice to Tequila was way off, just like the tilt of his glass.
"Hi Dallas, I'm Anne." She smiled politely at Dallas as she held out her hand.
"It's a pleasure to meet you!" My mouth almost fell open, I'd never heard Dallas be this polite in the short time I'd known her. I had to stifle a chuckle as Harry looked just as shocked, his drunken face unable to hide it.
"Likewise, dear." Anne smiled. "This is Gemma, Harry's sister, her boyfriend, Michal and I believe you know our lovely, Jessi!" Dallas nodded in response.
"Hi Gemma!" She waved. "I'd like me, you and Jess to be friends." That was a straight up lie and I excused myself from the group before I lost my temper. I walked towards Lori and Niall, my head hurt and I wished I had a button to just switch off my head.
"Niall and Lorena have chosen this song as their official engagement song and would like to invite their best man, Harry and their Maid of Honor, Jessi up to dance with them as well as any other couples who'd like to join them?" The DJ cut my thoughts short. Oh great! I turned and headed towards the toilets, the last thing I needed was an awkward, slow dance with Harry.
"Hey, where are you going? Dancing with me is in the rules, remember?" Harry chuckled as his arms wrapped around me.
"I'm surprised you remember anything." I found myself smiling as he picked me up and carried me to the dance floor.
"Ready?" The DJ asked. Lori and Niall nodded, and my heart thumped like a speeding train as Harry put me down and wrapped his arm around my waist.
"I'm sorry I yelled at you." He whispered as he gripped my waist tighter and the fingers on his other hand tangled up securely with mine.
"I'm sorry I acted like a bitch towards Dallas." My hand softly gripped his hip as Once in a Lifetime started playing, and I chuckled.
"Of course they picked a One Direction song." Harry chuckled as he kissed the top of my head.
"It's pretty." I replied as I looked up at him. I don't know if I was imagining it but his eyes seemed a little brighter.
"I want to kiss you so badly, right now." Our bodies swayed in time with the music.
"Harry, behave." I shook my head and rested it on his chest beside our clasped hands.
"What if I just did it?"
"Don't be stupid." I sighed.
"'m serious. Everyone here would love it."
"Dallas wouldn't." I scoffed.
"She'd find another idiot." His hand moved lower, the tips of his fingers grazing my bum, over my skirt.
"Harry, stop!" I sighed, he definitely needed to sober up.
"Please, just one kiss?" My bare skin tingled as his fingers moved to softly drum along my spine. The music finished, and I rushed off. I had to get away from Harry. I wanted to give in to him so much but I shouldn't. Who knows where it would end up? I felt a hand on my elbow and I turned to see Des staring back at me.
"Can we talk?" He asked, pulling me towards the balcony. I followed him outside, praying the fresh air would cool me down.
"Hi Des, how are you?" I asked. I knew I wasn't his favourite person. He blamed me for Harry and I breaking up and let's face it he wasn't wrong. He was the one person who treated me like I deserved to be treated.
"Stay away from Harry. He's moved on." To the point. I see we weren't doing pleasantries.
"I know and I'm trying. We're just friends."
"Just be sure it stays that way, you broke his heart. I won't watch you do that again." He warned before marching back inside. I took a few moments before I also returned to the party. I headed towards Niall, Lori, Zayn, Izzy and Danny. I tried to push Harry from my mind, him and Dallas were not my problem.
-----
"Izzy was upset that night at Niall and Lori's when we played spin the bottle." Zayn chuckled. I stood at a table with him, Izzy and Harry, who despite my best efforts seemed to pop up everywhere I went. At least he'd switched his Tequila for water.
"Aw, how come? We didn't make you feel left out, did we? Honestly, everyone loves you." I smiled.
"No, you guys were lovely. Z is just trying to embarrass me." She elbowed Zayn in the ribs but he was fairly drunk so of course he didn't drop it.
"Izzy was sad she didn't get to kiss you." Zayn chuckled, cupping Izzy's cheeks and kissing her nose.
"I wouldn't mind seeing that." A drunk Harry blurted out and before I could call him a perv, Zayn butted in with "me too, Harry."
"You two are unreal. You really want me to kiss your girlfriend just so you two pervs can get a kick out of it?" I shook my head at them.
"Hey, this was not my idea. But that wouldn't stop me from watching." Harry chuckled.
"Plus, don't think about us, you'd be making Izzy's dream come true, wouldn't she Iz?" Zayn smirked.
"Well, it might be fun. I haven't kissed a girl for over six months now. Ever since this doughnut came along. I kinda miss it." She smiled before she moved around the table and cupped her hands around my ear. "Please, you'd be doing me a favour, the sex is fucking fantastic after we even talk about me with other girls- and he trusts you."
"Okay - stop! I don't want to know anymore." I glanced at Zayn who was watching me nervously. "Are you seriously okay with this?"
"Yeah." He nodded.
"Fine." I shrugged. I leaned over the table towards Izzy and before I knew it her lips were pressed up against mine. They were soft and sticky from her lip gloss. Our lips moved in unison and she surprised me by sliding her tongue into my mouth but I decided just to let her do her thing. I should probably join Harry and stop drinking. I'd probably end up doing something more stupid like calling Mickey if I didn't. I pulled away from Izzy and shook my head at Harry and Zayn's expressions.
"I need to pee." I chuckled before heading in that direction, I was surprised to find Harry following me and even more surprised when he started dragging me off to the dressing room we'd used earlier. He opened the door and then slammed it shut, pinning me up against it.
"That was hot as fuck!" He growled and crashed his lips to mine. I flung my arms around his neck and deepened the kiss. I moaned against his lips as his tongue slowly brushed along mine.
"Get out!" We both sprung apart at the sound of other voices in the dark room. I could just make out the faces of Niall and Lori popping up from the sofa in there. I pulled the door open, pulled Harry outside and closed the door behind us. We leaned on the door, breathing heavy before we both started to laugh. Harry took my hand and pulled me along a short corridor and into another room. He flicked a switch and the little room lit up with fairy lights. It looked so pretty.
"I was using this place to test out the fairy lights before I hung them." He smiled. "Now where were we?" He pressed me up against the wall, his face inches from mine.
"We can't." I sighed.
"No Jess, don't." Harry whined. "We're still in that other room. My lips are still locked with yours." He nibbled on my ear, making me moan.
"Harry, you -"
"Shh... nothing matters." He kissed along my jaw. "I swear it won't change anything. I won't stop talking to you. Right now, I just - I don't know - I need you, Jess. I need you more than I need air." At his words my hand started moving as if acting on its own, travelling down his body, over his thigh and between his legs.
"Fuck!" I exclaimed. He wasn't lying. He was rock hard, and I wanted every inch of him inside me. But we couldn't. I wriggled out from under him.
"Do you love her?" I whispered and Harry paused, his arms outstretched to reach for me.
"What are you talking about?" He sighed, his arms dropping to his sides as he stood up straight.
"Dallas. Do you love her?"
"Don't be stupid. This isn't what I want to talk about." He huffed, his arms reaching out for me and I took a step back.
"I know, but I - I don't know. I need you to explain to me why you are with her when she treats you so badly. Maybe she's a sweetheart when you're at home or is she great in bed?"
"Jessi, stop!" Harry said softly.
"Just tell me?"
"Well, what about you and that shit head photographer? He treats you like a fucking sex toy! Why are you with him?" Harry snarled.
"He's nothing. I haven't seen or spoke to him since that party." And I didn't intend to speak to him anytime soon, if ever. "Tell me why you're with Dallas."
"Because she drives me fucking crazy!" He yelled, throwing his hands in the air. "We haven't had sex since the night of Ed's show. Most of the time I can't stand to be in the same room as her. And there's zero chance of me falling in love with her. I love you Jessi Monroe and I don't ever want to lose that feeling, my heart is yours and you can't make me give it to somebody else. You can't." The tears pooling in his eyes made my heart hurt.
"Harry?" I whispered and took a step closer to him, my hand reaching for his. "Please?" Our fingers linked together like two puzzle pieces. "I need you to try. For me."
-----
I closed the door behind me, making sure my costume was straight and praying I hadn't messed up my wig. I walked back into the party and jumped as Lori suddenly grabbed me.
"Where the hell have you been?" She whispered harshly in my ear as she pulled me back out of the party and towards the dressing room. "You and Harry, have been missing for almost an hour. Luckily nobody has seemed to notice that both of you were missing at the same time." She pushed me into the dressing room.
I opened my mouth to speak, but she cut me off again. "Mickey is here."
"Mickey who?" I asked without thinking, my mind was elsewhere.
"You know, that guy you've been fucking?" Lori rolled her eyes at me.
"Why? How?" I whined, I didn't want him here. That's why I hadn't invited him.
"Z called him. He was trying to be nice, he thought maybe you'd appreciate some backup with Dallas."
"Urgh. Thanks Zayn." I groaned, rolling my eyes.
"Well, how was he supposed to know you were off fucking Harry in a broom cupboard?" Her eyes were fixed on mine.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I replied as calmly as I could.
"Oh please, it was obvious what the two of you were up to. And if Niall and I hadn't interrupted, you'd have done it right there, in front of us." She placed her hand on her hip.
"I swear, we did nothing. Well, we kissed a bit but that's it."
"Nice try. You've both been missing for an hour, remember?" She flicked my forehead.
"Ouch!" I rubbed my head, that hurt. "Well, clearly he's not with me, is he?" I gestured beside me.
"Not anymore. But let's look at the facts shall we?" She smirked. I gestured for her to continue.
"Number 1, you both go missing at the same time. Number 2, Harry almost fucked you against the door of this very room. Number 3, You didn't go back to the party. Four, when I came looking for you I couldn't get into the storage room. Five, you have that little I just got laid smirk on your face and finally and most telling of all, you absolutely reek of Harry's Cologne." She smiled.
"All we did was talk." I stood still as she spritzed me with my perfume and ran her fingers through my tangled wig.
"Whatever, Jess. Now you look fab and smell like you. Also, thank you so much for this party. Niall and I are having a great time." She pulled me into a hug.
"You're welcome. You deserve to be happy. You're an amazing friend Lori and I really don't know what I'd do without you. And Niall. I know I drove you guys crazy this past year, but you both stood by me and were always there when I needed you." I held her tight.
"Of course, you're our Sissy and we love you so much."
"I love you too. Now stop before you make me cry." I giggled, pulling away from her. "I guess we should head back to the party before somebody rings the police or something?"
"Yeah. Oh, one more thing?" She linked her arm with mine as we walked out the door and along the corridor.
"Yeah?" I smiled.
"How was it?" She smirked.
"Lori, I'm serious. All we did was talk." I sighed.
-----
About fifteen minutes later and Harry still hadn't come back to the party. Niall had just been to make sure he wasn't trapped in the storage room but he couldn't see any sign of him. I was starting to worry.
"Hey Louis, have you seen Harry?" I asked as he walked by.
"No, but maybe he's with Dallas? I haven't seen her for a while either." He rolled his eyes as he kept heading in the direction he was walking before.
I quickly scanned the room and realised he was right. I couldn't see Dallas anywhere either.
"There you are!" I recognised Mickey's voice. Shit! I'd forgotten he was here.
"Hi! You didn't have to come." I had to stop myself from sighing.
"Do you know there's another Ariel here? I thought she was you. Turns out she's a model, I said I'd help her." He smiled and as I scanned the room, I noticed Dallas was back too. Great! He'd been fucking Dallas.
"By fucking her?" I looked him right in the eye.
"Hey, it's not like we're an exclusive thing." He smirked. He didn't even attempt to deny it.
"Suppose not." I shrugged.
"You wanna dance?" Mickey smiled.
"No, thanks." I smiled, not because I was happy he'd asked me to dance but I'd just spotted Harry. Harry was back, and he was heading my way.
"Do you mind if I borrow Jessi?" He asked as soon as he reached us, not bothering to wait for Mickey's answer before draping his arm over my shoulders and guiding me away from him.
"Hi, where have you been? I was worried." I playfully nudged his side.
"Making sure everything was okay for the last surprise." He smiled, sticking close to me.
"What surprise?" I smiled at him.
"You'll see. I wanted it to be a surprise for you too." He placed his hand on the small of my back as he guided me up onto the stage.
"Hi everyone!" He spoke confidently into the microphone once the DJ had stopped the music. "We'd just like to take a moment to thank you all for coming and making Niall and Lorena's party a huge success. Jessi and I," he put his arm around me and pulled me close to him, "couldn't be happier that two of our best friends are getting married and we wish them every happiness for the future." I nodded along to his words. "Anyway, we have one final surprise for you so if you could all make your way out onto the balcony then the surprise can begin." He looked very pleased with himself as he ushered me off towards the balcony. He didn't follow me so I found a quiet spot at the back of the crowd, close to the wall.
My eyes were glued to Lori and Niall as the fireworks started. They looked so in love. It was captivating. I frowned as somebody squeezed themselves between me and the wall.
"You wanna fuck tonight?" Mickey whispered in my ear, his hands grabbing my hips.
"Not a fucking chance." I sighed. I never wanted him anywhere near me again and I smiled happily to myself as he slinked off somewhere else.
"I broke up with Dallas." Harry's voice whispered in my ear and I felt like a giant weight had been lifted from my shoulders. Harry was free from Dallas. Free to give his heart to somebody who deserved it.
