Chapter 5

Suddenly, I was woken up. Ava desperately opened the window beside her bed. She stuck her head out and took a deep breath, relaxing finally. "What's up?" I asked in a tired voice. "Sorry, Kitty Fluffpaws, it's just a nightmare." She sighed, then took her head back in from the window, and lay down. She closed her eyes and fell into sleep again.

"Ava, you forgot the window open" I whispered. "Ava?" But she was in too deep sleep to hear me. I looked out the window, then curled up in a ball, as the cold breeze blew in.

"It is better with the window open" I said to myself. I closed my eyes, as the breeze hit my white furry back.

The cold breeze was so calming.

But suddenly, there was a warm breeze, that smelt horrible, as if smelling like breath. I lifted my head slightly, I opened my hazel eyes.

They met with a black wolf. A wolf. With orange eyes. Its drool landed on Ava's pillow, as it looked down at her like she was a piece of salmon.

Oh no. No, no, no. It can't be.

Delta. The wolf from the news. The one that carried six pups, had her head sticking into Ava's window, slowly coming closer. So she can...eat Ava. My heart was racing as Delta slowly made her way closer, her head almost hanging over Ava's.

While Delta was distracted with Ava, I quickly but quietly, ran to the door. It was slightly opened, so I slipped through, and ran down stairs like there was no tomorrow. There wouldn't be one for Ava if I didn't hurry. I had to distract Delta. I needed bait. Me.

I finally made my way to the backdoor. Unfortunately all the doors were closed and locked last night. But fortunately Ava made a cat door for me. I jumped through it, and ran to the flimsy metal stairs that led up to Ava's window. Delta stood at the top.

I quickly and quietly made my way up the metal stairs. Luckily I'm very light, because if a human tried to make their way up here, it would sound like the floor of a haunted house.
Finally I stood behind Delta, who had her jaws open over Ava's face.
I had no time to lose. She could snap her jaws at any moment.

So I decided to snap my jaws. My beautiful white, clean teeth, bit into the black, dirty, disgusting tail flesh of the wolf. My tiny teeth pierced it, and I wanted to barf. What a monster! I just bit a wild animal! Yuck!

Delta swung around and snapped her jaws at my face, biting off the tips of a couple of my glorious white whiskers. My eyes widened, and I jumped off the staircase. I know, that's like two stories high. But remember, I still have eight lives left. Where's my ninth you ask? She died at the bottom of the staircase I just jumped off. I groaned as I quickly stood up. Delta made her way down the stairs. I ran, and ran, and ran.

I ran into the bushes and trees that surrounded the town. Suddenly, something grabbed me. Not Delta. Something with small fluffy paws, grabbed me and pulled me away from Delta. My head smashed into a rock as it pulled me away.

No.. Ava.. Marsh.. Help.
I can't faint in the paws of a stranger...
I can't... No.. No..

Then it was all black.
