Chapter 2
Me, Marsh, and Ava walked into the lounge room as our favorite movie began to play. "I'm not sure why there putting it on again, but let's go see" Ava grabbed me in her arms like I was a baby. I purred and fought the urge to curl up in a ball. We got inside, followed by Marsh.
"Oh God" Ava mumbled as we saw Ava's cousin, Astrid. She was a troublemaker, and would always smush my face. She wore way too much makeup, and she was so childish. She was also an attention seeker and ended up screaming like a child by the end of the visit. She was also an emotional girl. She had yellow hair tied with a ponytail on each side of her head, held there with a large purple ribbon. She had bright pink lips, blue eyes, pink cheeks, orange nails, like why orange!? And purple eyelids. How do humans stand colouring their eyelids?
"Heyyy cousin!!!" She screeched.
We always ended up watching a movie so she could calm down. Though she would often break down into tears, saying that the movie was so sad, even if it was most certainly not. "Um, hey. What are you doing here?" Ava asked. She hated Astrid just like me. "Aaaw! Hey Kitty, kitty, kitty!" She screamed.
The movie volume was turned higher to catch her attention. "Movie! What is it?" She asked. "It's called dog show. Ava loves this movie." Ava's father said. Astrid plopped on the lounge. Ava sat next to her, and me and Marsh shared her lap. "That's such a cute necklace!" Astrid screeched as she saw Ava's necklace. "Thanks."
That was the necklace her grandmother gave her before she passed away. "Can I have it?" She asked. "What? No. It's mine." She answered angrily. "Ava" her mother warned. "What? It's my necklace." She said. "Give Astrid your necklace! Have some manners! She's your cousin. Give her what she wants." Mother hissed. Astrid looked at Ava expectedly. "No." Ava growled.
Astrid's arm sprung out and grabbed the necklace. Ava kicked Astrid away, and she fell back on the arms of the lounge. "Ava!" Her parents barked.
"Oops" Marsh commented.
Astrid's eyes filled with tears, and she began to cry. "What a baby! Go back home!" I hissed. "Give her the-" her dad began. "No!" Ava hissed, and grabbed me in one arm, and Marsh in the other. She stormed upstairs.
"Ava! Get back here!" Her mother hissed. Ava entered her room and dropped us on the bed. She closed and locked the door, and lay on her bed beside us. "Ava?" I asked in concern. I sat on her chest and lucky her face. She smiled and laid a hand on my furry back. Tears dripped from her eyes, but she quickly whipped them away. She fixed up the big white ribbon on my neck.
I looked around at Ava's walls. They were brick, and full of paintings, and papers of me, her, and Marsh, and all the fun times we had together.
She was a great artist, and a few weeks ago she had drawn a painting of me on the wall. She was such a great person. She is a smart girl, who loves to study, and she's studying to be a jewelry designer. She is an artist, and a photographer. There are so many great things about her.
She thought of being a vet once, but she could never bring herself to put down an animal. She always believed there was another way to save them, but if she hadn't listened and put them down, she'd be fired. So she never took that path.
She is very smart in so many things. She's been good with technology since the age of ten. She's nineteen now. She has been working for one year now, but only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. I know right? Who works on the weekends?
Well, she doesn't really get the weekdays off. She has to study. But she always has a way with spending time with us! What a good girl!
We could hear The Dog Show on downstairs. "I wanna watch!" Marsh barks. "Okay, go sit with Astrid" I replied. "I don't wanna watch..." Marsh's face dropped.
Ava sat up and sighed. "I'm going to the bathroom. Stay here." She opened the door and looked out to make sure nobody was there. She walked out and closed the door behind her.
"Ava is old enough to live on her own, why doesn't she?" I asked.
"She doesn't have the money" Marsh shrugged. "Her parents are rich, why doesn't she borrow their money?" I asked. "You think her parents would give her money so she can leave the house? They probably don't even want her gone." Marsh lay down on the dog rug next to the bed.
"Ava!" Her mother hissed.
I jumped up from the bed, and walked to the door, looking under it.
Her mother was standing in front of Ava, who was in front of the bathroom door. I could barely hear them speak, but it wasn't a friendly talk, that's for sure. "Don't be so disrespectful to your cousin! You made her upset! And then you go storming off?! You're a disappointing child! You don't act like that in my house!" Her mother blabbered on.
"Then why don't you and dad let me get my own house? I have the money, and there are plenty of houses on sale, I have my own job, I can get my own house! Then you won't have any animals to bother you, and I won't have any you to bother me!" Ava hissed back. "Go Ava!" I meowed.
"She's gonna get us killed..." Marsh sighed.
Ava's mother gasped. "Go to your room!"
"I will!" Ava hissed and headed towards the door. I quickly got up and jumped onto the bed, and began licking myself innocently like I had been there the whole time. Ava shut the door and jumped in bed. She laid her head on her pillow, and Marsh jumped up onto her legs. She gave him and pet, as I curled up beside her.
We all drifted asleep after that.
