Chapter 12
"121A, 121A, 121A" Stargaze kept on repeated the whole time.
I moaned as he repeated it for the millionth time. "This might actually take quicker than I thought!" Stargaze exclaimed. I couldn't wait to get back to Ava, this forest and there animals were making me sick.
When I got back, the first thing I'd do after saying hi and all, is take a bath, put my ribbons in the wash, brush my fur, put fresh ribbons on, cuddle up in Ava's bed, on her lab, beside Marsh, and watch some 'dog show'.
As I day dreamed I hadn't noticed we had stopped, so I hit into Pale-Moon.
"Why did we stop?" I asked before looking. A river separated us from the other end. "Let's go around." I quickly said. "Not so fast. It's only a little water. Plus, look at all those rocks we could walk on." Stargaze said with a mischievous grin, and Pale-Moon soon followed with a grin.
There was honestly something wrong with this family.
I looked into the mossy, swampy looking water, and then looked at the rocks in it. They were greyish, and scaly. Oh no...they wouldn't...
"Animals! Those aren't rocks! They're crocks! Rocks and crocks are very different!" I hissed.
My eyes then widened as I noticed that they knew quite well what they are. "Oh no you don't!" I stepped back, but Pale-Moon had moved behind me, blocking my way. "I'd like to keep my fifth life, thank you!" I growled.
"Fifth life? Huh! You already lost twenty lives living in a safe little human home?" Stargaze asked.
"Twenty? Cats have nine lives, not twenty five." I said, in a 'as a matter of fact' tone.
"Maybe that's what humans think, they are good at under estimating us. In the wild, cats have twenty six lives." Stargaze said.
"I thought you said twenty five before." I pointed out.
Pale-Moon replied like it was obvious, quickly with a her tone full of boredom, like it was too simple to waste time on. "Oh, Whiskers, you loose one at birth of course."
"At birth? Wait, what-" I was cut off, mid sentence by Stargaze.
"Alright, enough chitty chatting, and let's go!" He meowed excitedly.
He hopped on the face of one of the crocks, and my mouth went instantly dry. I was certain the two of them had a death wish, or they actually thought we had nine- or should I say twenty six lives. I wondered how many they had left. I decided they couldn't have had many from how casual this seemed to them. They probably done this every weekend for a hobby.
"See, there's nothing to be afraid of!" Stargaze called to us.
He hopped to the next crock, landing on its back. "Come on, the faster we get this done, the less limbs we will loose to these bloodthirsty crocodiles." Stargaze said in a humerus tone.
Pale-Moon nudged me closer to the water. "No way. I don't actually have twenty one lives left! That's just a saying!" I yelled.
"So are you suggesting whoever says or is lying? It is, as a matter of fact, a saying, not a lying." Pale-moon said and Stargaze nodded his agreement.
I shook my head rapidly.
"No, it's just saying!" I hissed.
Pale-moon seemed to hesitate as if that had knocked some sense into her. But of course, it was just her distraction. And it worked.
"A saying that's true!" Pale-moon exclaimed as she pushed me onto a crocks head. I froze. My mouth went dry, my heart felt as if it had stopped.
As if it were worried that if it continued to beat, the vibration would make the crocks notice her, as if her being pushed onto its head wouldn't make her appearance more noticeable. My eyes were wide with fear and expectance. Expecting that the deadly large jaws of the crock would slam shut on my body, blood gushing from my wounds and soaking my beautiful white fur and my ribbons. And soon my fleshless body would be found bobbing in and out of the swampy water.
This was certain death. This was suicide.
