Chapter 11
Ava's POV.
I finally finished exploring the house. I imagined it being more fun. But with Jinny gone, I can't be happy. She was everything to me.
Boxes and suitcases were scattered around the room. I grabbed a cardboard box, and dropped it on the bench next to me. I didn't bother cutting the tape, so I peeled the tip with my long nails, and striped the rest off. I dug through the stuff. This was my sketches, paintings, drawings, and books were. I pulled out a dusty, old, brown, thin book that my grandmother had given me the day she died. She handed it to me while she lay in the hospital bed.
It was fun of photos of my friends, family, and pets. I opened it up on the first page. The first photo was of five year old me, sitting on my grandmothers lap. And on the page next to that, my grandmother stood there, with her necklace she gave me around her neck.
I flicked through the pages. Until I came to Jinny. The photos of Jinny I had taken. One was of Jinny through a filter, making her sparkle. The next was me holding a red cardboard heart and Jinny in the back. The camera was focused on the heart.
The next was a drawing I had drew on my room wall. The next was of one of my paintings. I often repaint the same thing to get better at it. And that painting I had remade a few days back.
I blinked away the tears that formed in my eyes. I turned the page and saw Marshmallow when he was a pup, and he sat in my arms, sniffing the lenses. Then another of him looking up at me, happy the visit to the vet was over.
I soon finished the book, and closed it. "Hey Marshmallow?" I called, as he said on the floor. He looked up at me.
"Can you take this to my bed?" I asked. He grabbed it and ran upstairs. What a well trained dog. Well, except for that time he put it in the toilet instead of the bed. Yeah, that was nasty.
I pulled out a book, and began to draw. I often done that if I missed the person, I was upset, bored, or couldn't sleep. It was a hobby I really enjoyed, and it helped me get my mind off things.
I pulled out the 'book marks' which were actually beads and flowers, and put them on top for effect.
I pulled out my paint brush, and dipped it in black.
'I Love You' I said on the opposite page from the drawing.
A cold breeze blew through the window. I shivered and pulled out some gloves. This would be the time I'd usually cuddle up with Jinny.
Marshmallow made his way downstairs, and jumped onto my leg, burring his muzzle in my wooly white jacket.
I sigh was my phone rings. "Let me guess" I picked up the phone, but to my surprise, it wasn't my parents. It was my friend who lived nearby my new house. She's the one who suggested me coming here. She had been one of my top friends since
year K. I answered the phone.
"Hey, Reena?"
"Hey Ava! Are you here yet? Can I come over or will you come to my house?"
Reena spoke quickly like she had been repeating the same lines in her head for hours. "Um...is there anywhere good to spend, outside?" I asked.
There was along pause.
"What's wrong?" She asked, with worry and concern clear in her voice.
"Nothing" I lied.
"Ava, you only go outside when your stressed out, or upset."
"I just want to get to know the place." I lied again.
"I'm not letting you go until I have an answer" Reena warned. I sighed and rolled my eyes.
"Jinny is missing" I said. There was a very long pause. I wondered if she had left to make herself a popcorn or two. "I'm fine." I finally said. I wasn't sure if she had already hung up.
"Are you okay? What happened? Where is she? Is she okay? Is she alive? When was the last time you saw her? Did you call anyone?-" She kept asking. She did that when she was nervous.
She hung up and I could almost hear her bolting to the house from way over here.
