Lead?
"So, the man I spotted before wasn't the boss?" father asks while driving the limo.
"It's the work of a demon, but it doesn't rule out that man. He could have a contract with a demon, but I feel as if that's not the case."
"He didn't have the aura of a contract. You got the tracking powder for the daeva?" father asks.
I pull the small bag from my pocket and toss it to him. "This is going to be a bigger case than we originally thought."
"This is quite troublesome..."
"Hopefully, they haven't caught on to us," I admit. "Then it will be really troublesome."
It's a Saturday and we're on our way to a new murder scene. Claude, Alois, and the triplets have met up with us. So far, nobody is causing the other trouble.
The only way the tracking powder will work is if the scent is fairly fresh. Hopefully, today will be the day that we take the daeva and maybe even the demon down.
"Why did we have to bring along these losers?" Ciel scoffs, talking about Alois, Claude, and the triplets.
"We may be very strong, but if there are more than one of these daevas, we might need more assistance," I say.
"I doubt that this demon is stronger than us, but I can summon 100 daevas at one time as can Zandra," father says. "If there is more than one demon then we could be heading straight for a large trap."
"100?! I can barely control 10," Timber states.
"You're not of royal blood," I say.
"Then why don't you guys summon some yourself to take down their daevas?" Alois asks.
"Because summoning them isn't technically allowed," I answer.
"Why?" Alois asks.
"Because if the demon who summoned them isn't strong enough, they'll kill the demon and be released in the human world, killing whoever and whatever they want," father answers.
"But if you can control 100 or more, why does it matter?" Alois asks.
"Technically it's against supernatural law," I sigh. "But if it comes down to it, we will."
"I'd hope so," Ciel says, finally speaking up.
Father pulls up to the crime scene and we're greeted by Abberline.
"Glad you're here," Abberline says. "A new problem has risen."
"Great," Alois scoffs sarcastically.
"What is the problem?" Ciel asks.
"There were two victims this time."
Ciel sighs. "This is getting out of hand..."
"Could you clear everyone out and let us do our thing?" I ask.
"Certainly," Abberline says and leaves to get everyone out around the murder scene.
We follow behind him and wait till everyone's out of the room.
"Alright, let's get this case over with," Ciel says.
Father takes a pinch of the tracking power and throws it out into the area around us. The scene of the murders quickly plays out and then the dust daeva leaves the room.
"Let's follow," I say and we all hurriedly follow after.
We all follow the trail to an abandoned corner shop. The scene of the daeva interacting with a man is shown though the mans face isn't clear. He banished the daeva back to its place then disappears.
"So, we are dealing with a demon though he masked his presence," Claude says.
"This makes this much more difficult," I admit.
"And what does that mean for us?" Ciel asks.
"It means the tracking powder won't work on this man," I say. "There's a very special tracking spell combined with tracking powder to be able to track a masked demon."
"Then let's get it," Alois says.
"It's not that simple," Thompson says.
"That kind of tracking powder is incredibly valuable and hard to obtain especially for a demon," Canterbury continues.
"Only high ranked angels can obtain it," Timber finishes.
"And even then it's hard," I say. "They have to go through a series of incredibly hard tests. Though it's the same if trying to track a masked angel. Only demons are able to obtain it and also go through hard tests."
"It's not an option," Claude says.
"Then we're back to square one," Ciel huffs, putting a hand to his chin in thought. "Let's return home and get what we have together."
"Yes, my lord," father says.
The 8 of us return to the car. We drop the Trancy household back off at their mansion before returning to ours. We enter the manor and Finny greets us.
"You have a guest, young master," Finny says.
"Who is it?" Ciel asks.
"Mr. Lau and Miss Ran Mao," Finny says.
"Lau is here?" Ciel questions. "What could he be doing here? Take us to him."
"Yes, young master." Finny takes us to the study he let the two guests accompany.
"Lau, what are you doing here?" Ciel asks upon entering.
Father leaves to go bring some tea and biscuits. Finny scurries off behind him.
"Ah, Ciel! I knew you came to Japan but I didn't know it was going to be so hard to find you! I've been here for a week!" Lau cries out. "Ah, beautiful Zandra! It's so nice to see you again."
I roll my eyes as Ciel moves to take a seat on the couch across from Lau and Ran Mao.
"Why are you here, Lau?" Ciel repeats, crossing his arms.
"Ah, I've heard about your murder mystery and wanted to inquire what I've heard," he says.
"Proceed," Ciel responds.
"If you'll excuse me," I say with a bow before exiting the room. I head down to the kitchen to help my father. "I believe you need to be in the room with the young master. I will handle the food."
He loads up a tea cart with a teapot and some matching teacups. He gives me a nod as he leaves the room with the tea he made. I make the biscuits and tea cakes before putting them on a platter and walk back to the study.
"In other words, you're saying that they are reviving the dead there," Ciel confirms.
"That's about right," Lau nods, taking one of the treats I brought in.
I set the platter on the table between them as father fills up their teacups with tea.
"And what does this have to do with my case here?" Ciel asks.
"The hospital seems to be doing lots of shopping down at the back docks."
"Drugs?" Ciel questions, slightly more interested.
"No, people," Lau corrects. "And most are not just any people but the people that are the murder victims of your case."
"In other words, you're saying there's a possibility that the revival of the dead is occurring as a result of illegal human experimentation?" father asks, refilling Ciel's cup.
"That's right and using your murder victims along with it," Lau says.
Ciel sits up straight, contemplating his next move. "If that's true then it's an interference in the regular society by an underground power and a chance of a lead on our killer." He turns to my father. "Sebastian, investigate immediately."
"Please leave it to me," father says with a bow and leaves.
"Then my time here is over," Lau says. "Let's go home, shall we, Ran Mao?"
She nods her head in agreement.
"Zandra, please escort them out," Ciel says.
"Yes, my lord," I bow. "Right this way." I lead them to the front door and to their car.
"Such a cute girl," Lau says, petting my head before entering his car with Ran Mao behind him.
I with hold my emotions by letting my eye twitch as I close the car door and they roll out. I return to the study and clean up.
"Zandra."
"Yes, young master?"
"Do you think this could lead us to finding our murderer?"
"I wouldn't know, young master. We can only hope for the best." I place everything back on the tea cart, waiting for Ciel to finish his up. He does and hands it to me. "Would you like more?"
"No, bring me more in an hour," Ciel says, standing up. "I have work to do in my study." He leaves the room and I take the dirty dishes back to the kitchen to clean them.
I find Finny along the way. "Finnian."
He immediately stands up straight. "Yes, Miss Zandra!"
"Next time we get a visitor when we are out, you should text or call us first," I tell him.
"Yes ma'am!" he salutes before disappearing quickly.
I sigh as I move to the kitchen. Right as I enter the kitchen, I hear the front door of the manor bang open.
"Ciiiieeeeeelll!" a high pitched squeaky voice releases.
"Oh, no," I sigh, quickly putting the dirty dishes up before greeting the unwelcomed guests.
"Zaandrraaaaa!"
I'm suddenly tackled by the small blonde girl. "It's nice to see you again, Lady Elizabeth." I look up to find the other members of her family. "Likewise to the rest of the family."
I take notice of Elizabeth's high heels, now that Ciel has grown taller than her, she can finally wear big girl heels instead of the usual doll heels she wears. Finny and the other servants enter the room, curious to the noise.
"Where is that brother-in-law of mine anyway?" Elizabeth's brother, Edward asks in disdain, obviously unapproving of Ciel as his sister's future husband.
"Where is Sebastian?" Elizabeth asks, looking around for him too.
"My father is currently elsewhere taking care of our young master's orders. The young earl is currently working in his study. I will take you to him if you wish."
"Oh, yes please!" Elizabeth squeals.
"Will you all being staying here for a few days?" I ask.
"Just for a few," Francis, Elizabeth's mother and also Ciel's aunt, says sternly. "We were invited on a vacation here for a luxury liner cruise. It will be departing this coming Monday."
"I will have your rooms prepared," I say, looking to Mey Rin. "Mey Rin, please go prepare their rooms."
"Yes, Miss Zandra!" she squeaks, racing off.
"Finnian and Bard, please bring their belongs inside and to their rooms."
"Yes, ma'am!" they salute and rush out to the car outside.
"This way, if you will," I say, leading them to Ciel's study. I knock on the door.
"Yes?"
"Young master, you have some surprise guests. They'd like to see you."
Before he even replies, Elizabeth bursts into the room. "Ciieeelll!"
"Elizabeth!" Ciel shouts shocked.
She tackles him in a hug.
"Would the rest of you like to head to your rooms?" I ask.
The three nod.
~~~
"I have returned," father says, entering the room.
"That was fast, as always," Ciel says, turning around and gasping in shock. "What's with that outfit?!"
Father is in a white lab coat with his glasses on and one side of his hair tucked behind his ear.
"As they say, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Moreover, I have obtained some rather interesting information."
"What is it?" Ciel asks, sitting in his chair.
"According to a nurse, Karnstein Hospital has opened a secret association called the Aurora Society," father says, reading off his clipboard. "Their motto is 'The complete salvation for mankind through medicine.' They collect donations from nobles and hold presentations for the results of their experiments regularly. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any trace or evidence of the slaves."
"As expected. We will have to search within the Aurora Society itself," Ciel responds.
"Yes. Just about that, their next meeting is scheduled in two days, on a passenger ship departing from the closest dock from here," father finishes, moving the clipboard down.
My eyes widen. "Young master, the Midford family."
He shoots up from his seat. "What is the name of the ship?!"
"The Majestic Star Line's luxury, Campania cruise," father says.
"Make arrangements to board this cruise," Ciel demands. "That's an order."
