It would be an understatement to say that Catina was glad to be on the Hogwarts Express and well on her way to Scotland. As soon as she was allowed to be away from the Weasley's, Lupin, Moody and Tonks she was rushing off in search for her friends. Pushing through the crowded corridors of the train, she glanced in each cabin to see whether Prosper, Luisa and Caspian were in any of them. It seemed as though she was going blind as she skipped past them without realising only to find out when she was dragged by the scruff of her neck into a cabin.
"There you are!" Luisa exclaimed, "where have you been all summer?"
Catina blew the hair out of her face, "it's a long story which I cannot be arsed to say so just know that I've been moved again."
Caspian rolled his eyes with a shake of his head. He found it utterly ridiculous how she was passed from house to house because it made it utterly impossible for them to exchange letters.
Prosper stayed silent, he wasn't always the talking type, not compared to everyone at Grimmauld place, it never seemed to be quiet there. Catina set herself down beside him and he opened up his arms putting them around the girl and holding her close. He might not talk but he was always protective of the girl and since she had gone silent and disappeared all summer he didn't want her to leave his side.
"I've missed you, Prop." She said and he nodded his head. She knew what he meant. Many years of friendship told her that he felt the same. He watched out of the window silently as Luisa and Caspian bickered between themselves about random nonsense that Catina was not very interested in.
"Tell him I'm right, Cat!" Luisa cried turning to Catina with a huff.
"Right about what?"
"That his hair looks absolutely absurd!"
Caspian looked over at Catina with raised eyebrows, he was frequently changing his hair colour and this time it was purple with blue tips. "It looks very... bright."
"See it doesn't look bad! Yours on the other hand, Lulu! Why on earth would you get black highlights! Your hair is a nice blonde!"
"And? I like the look!"
Catina chuckled too herself and snuggled down closer to Prosper just as a loud bang followed by some laughter, laughter Catina recognised as belonging to Fred and George who passed by their cabin shortly after looking as if they hadn't done anything at all. George glanced in and caught Catina's gaze, turning his nose up he pressed Fred forward making sure he didn't see the girl.
She sighed. Prosper adjusted his position so that his back was against the wall and he lifted Catina up momentarily so he could put his legs across the whole of the seat and then he put her between his legs so her back was against his chest. If anyone saw this they would perhaps believe that they were in a relationship but this was far from the case. Prosper simply looked out for Catina, he knows she doesn't get much of it and he was the closest person to family that she has.
Catina, despite now being in a relationship with Fred, could never see herself being able to replace Prosper as the main boy in her life, besides Juno. Prosper has been with her through thick and thin and Fred, well, Fred has only just came into her life and good is it was that he had, Prosper still came first.
Speaking of Juno, the little terror ran off from Catina the minute she stepped onto the steam train but she wasn't worried too much because he would come back soon. He always liked a wander on the train and would find his way to Catina before the end of the journey.
Juno prowled around through the carriages until he came upon a specific cabin where three boys and two girls sat. He meowed at the door and like a dog does, scratched at it. One of the girls stood up in confusion and slid open the door, peering down she saw Juno and cooed at him. Juno held his tail up high and passed past her with his nose turned up and pounced at two of the boys and curled up between them, rubbing his face on the boy on the right.
"And who is this little cutie?" The girl asked shutting the door and returning to her seat.
"This is Juno he's C-" started Fred rubbing behind the cat's ears.
"A stray that Ginny has adopted," George cut him off sending his brother a look.
"Well," said Angelina Johnson, "I think he is adorable, and I'm glad I opened the door to him."
"Can I cuddle him?" Asked Alicia Spinnett as she finished adjusting her red and gold tie.
Fred went to pass Juno to her but the cat hissed and press further into him. George went to take Juno instead and he got the same reaction.
"Clearly," Lee Jordan said, "kitty-cat over here only likes Freddie-boy."
George hummed, "you can say that again."
With Juno on his lap Fred drifted off into a daydream thinking about Catina and what would happens between them at school. Would they be public? Would they be secret? Would they be anything at all? He promised her that he would not go anywhere and he intended to keep that but would it be as simple as he first thought?
"I can't wait to get back into the quidditch spirit," said Angelina, "my final year and I'm captain! It's brilliant, last year was so weird not playing at all. When I told Oliver he was fuming but over the summer he gave me some coaching on being captain-"
"Yeah, 'coaching'!" Giggled Alicia, "you're not going to be a pain in the arse and make us do about six laps each practise before actually letting us on the brooms?"
"Oh shut up! Wait and see then judge me."
"Me and Freddie will tear apart any other beaters. We're the best aren't we?" George budged Fred out of his daydream, "aren't we?"
"Oh, yeah, we're beasts!"
In the kitchens Catina sat up with a hot chocolate in hand, twirling a spoon in it with magic. Her cheek was rested in her hand and her mind was not on anything specific. The door to the kitchens opened quietly and hands rested on Catina's shoulders shortly after. "I guessed you'd be down here," Fred said softly, pressing a kiss to her forehead and sitting down beside her.
"What's up?" She asked him, placing her wand on the table and leaning back in her seat.
"I could ask you the same thing," Fred chuckled, stealing her drink and taking a sip. "Glad to see there's no firewhisky but there is also no caramel."
"No, darling, because you didn't make it."
"Aw, sad times! It's been a week and you miss my amazing brewing skills."
"You don't brew hot chocolate," Catina said bluntly. "Anyway, what are you going down here?"
"I came to see you. We haven't seen much of each other."
"That's because I have lessons. You have lessons. And we're not stuck in a house together."
"I know, I know. But I've seen more of Juno than I have of you."
Catina stole back her drink before Fred finished it all, "so that's where the little monkey has been going? To see you."
"I'll have you know, that for a kitten, you really need to know what a cat looks like because Juno is not a monkey. And yes. I have enjoyed the company, despite him not being able to talk back and me having to listen to George ramble on and on."
Catina snickered, "he's your other half. I'm sure he feels the same way about you, darling. I must be getting to bed." She said then promptly finished her drink which had gone cold, she cringed at the taste caused by the temperature and a house elf tottled over to get her mug.
"Do you have to?"
"Why? What do you have in mind?"
* * *
"This is dangerous!"
Fred shook his head, "you'll be fine, just keep quiet."
"One of us will fall."
"And when you do I'll be sure to scrape you off of the floor and take you to Madam Pomfrey."
"Charming!"
"Cat, trust me, as long as you keep your back straight and don't lean back you will be okay. I promise I won't let you fall." He held out his hands and she took both of hers and held onto one of his still believing that she would regret this decision. With his other hand, Fred lifted Catina up onto the banister of the stair and let her adjust herself so that she was sat flatly on it. Fred let go slowly and Catina gripped onto the banister to stop herself from moving. "Let go, kitten, let the breeze flow through your hair and I'll be right behind you."
She nodded wearily. Trusting Fred would be at stake here, she could either have fun and live or die. She loosened her grip and glanced ahead of her, there was no way she was looking down not when she was 14 flights up from the ground. Pushing herself down Catina wanted to scream in fright as she slipped down the banister towards the end of the staircase.
A groaning sound rumbled and she cursed under her breath. This cannot be happening, she thought and she she tried to grip the banister to stop herself but ultimately failed.
The staircase began to change and move. Fred gasped as she saw Catina continue to slide to the end. He rushed down the steps trying to catch up with her, gripping the banister to stop himself from falling. "Cat!" He called.
Catina clenched her eyes shut as the end loomed closer and the sheer drop became a closer reality. Bracing herself she waited to fall but it didn't come. Instead a hand gripped her wrist and her legs dangled beneath her.
She breathed raggedly looking up to see Fred's face contorted as he struggled to fight gravity and pull her up. "Can you... pull... up... with your... other arm?" He tried to asked her between each tug whilst also attempting to stop himself from falling forward.
Catina tried to raise her other arm. It didn't happen. "I can't." She stressed her arm kept falling back by her side. "Fred please don't let go."
"I won't... Trust me."
"Who's there?"
Fred's head snapped behind him and his grip loosened on Catina's wrist. "Filch." He murmured. Fred also noticed the stairs were getting closer to the next spot and if he didn't get her up soon he would be in deep poop with Filch but also Catina would either be squashed by the stairs or she would fall. He took a deep breath and pulled harder than he has ever had to pull anything and slowly but surely he managed to get Catina back up onto the staircase just as it docked to another corridor.
Catina shook as she slumped on the stair and Fred held her hands tightly. "We need to run," said Catina, "otherwise Filch will catch us."
"I don't think I have the energy. You go. I don't want you getting in trouble."
"No, I'm not leaving you."
"Kitten, I'm not dying. It'll be a dumb detention, nothing new to me. Go."
"Shut up, I'm not going. Unless..." Catina pushed herself up and hurried to sit perfectly beside Fred. She took out her wand and swirled it above her head. "Concealiamento," She said boldly and a silver light flurried from the top of her wand, spiralling around the pair like a blanket of colour.
Fred raised his eyebrows at her but she remained silent only responding by raising her index finger to her lips. He nodded just as Filch stood at the top of the staircase, lantern in his hand and Mrs Norris in his arms for a change rather than on the floor.
Filch tiptoed down the stairs passing the pair as of they were not there at all and disappeared around the corner. "What was that spell? And where did you find it?"
"It was an invisibility charm, duh."
"Where did you find it? That's bloody well useful."
"I made it," Catina blushed, looking down at her feet. "But please don't tell anyone. It took ages and I don't want people using it yet."
"Why not?"
"I want to publish a book full of spells that I have and will create. Nobody knows I make them, except you now, but I just needed to use it then otherwise we would get caught."
"Well, well, well, Miss Lennox. That depends on what I would get in return."
"What?"
"Hmm... perhaps a kiss would suffice but then again, I dunno."
"I literally just saved you from getting a detention, I'm sure that is enough."
"Nah uh, a kiss please. Right here." Fred tapped his lips, pushing them out to emphasise his wish. Catina rolled her eyes and pecked his lips.
"There. Goodnight, darling." She tapped his head and started to walk away from him.
"You nearly died and you're so bloody chill about it? How?" Fred followed her onto the corridor which leads towards the Gryffindor Tower but also another staircase that goes downstairs.
"Fred, I'm tired. I just want to sleep."
"Kitten, stop. Look at me." She did as she was told. Fred put his hands on her cheeks and he searched her eyes. "You're scared. I can see it in your eyes. That was a stupid idea especially as the staircases change. I'm sorry."
"Fred, don't-"
"No, I shouldn't have encouraged you to do that."
"I'm fine though aren't I?"
"Now you are, yes but-"
"Hem hem."
