* * *
It was the middle of the night, as usual in this story so far, and Ginny awoke to the sound of rattling in the bedroom. In the corner, a small chest sat collecting dust and neither of the three girls that inhabited the bedroom gave it any attention until now. It was shaking like a leaf in the middle of winter, clanging into the wall and shuffling on the floor. Hermione soon woke up as well and stared in horror at the wooden chest that seemed to have come to life, despite being rather used to the unexpected happening in her presence.
"We should get an adult," said Hermione as Ginny stood up to take a closer look, "no, Ginny! Don't!"
The lid was bellying in the centre, whatever the contents were, it didn't like being trapped. The wood creaked with each curving. It was whining creak, one that definitely didn't sound healthy and as if the wood was not going to hold the inside back for much longer. Moments later, just as the bedroom door slowly pushed open, the chest burst open, the lock ripping off of the wood entirely and crashing into Hermione's trunk that was at the end of her bed.
It's contents flung out into Catina's puzzled face as she stepped over the threshold. Her eye's rounded and her jaw dropped open. In front of her was him. His hands tucked into his slacked jeans and his loose t-shirt hanging down to reveal his toned chest. Lips curling into a smirk he looked the young girl up and down and licked his lips as if he was a lion looks a juicy piece of meat which he would soon get to devour.
Ginny and Hermione could only watch as the boy approached Catina with a hungry look in his eyes. Both stunned into silence. Whereas Catina's eyes narrowed, she didn't believe that he was there. Not like this. This couldn't be happening.
"Oh, darling," he said, rocking on the balls of his feet, his head dipping and an actual smile replacing his smirk.
His voice. His bloody slick voice! How dare he! Catina breathed heavily, shutting her eyes.
"Help!" Hermione managed to shout, breaking her state of silence like a knife cutting through a shield, "Cat, get back!"
"MUM!" Ginny cried out feeling powerless as her and Hermione's wands stayed put away in a drawer on the opposite side of the room, the pair having no use for them during the summer, and knowing that the boy before them was just a boggart they couldn't even help Catina rid her fear.
In the doorway, others gathered to see the boy twiddling Catina's curls. She stepped back, coiling away from him, "Princess, how many times have I told you, don't be scared." He purred, "You're my little princess, Kitty," he purred, his voice so smooth it rolled off of his tongue.
"No," she murmured, "I don't want to play."
"But it's a special game, Kitty."
Pushing through the crowd that had formed to watch the show the boy was putting on, Remus raised his wand, "Riddikulus!" He bellowed and white whisps slipped from the tip of his wand transforming the boy into a rocking sunflower on a unicycle. He pulled Catina back who remained watching the sunflower.
"Cat, c'mon, it's not real," he said noticing her eyes wash over with an unexplainable mask like she was leaving reality behind her. "Cat?"
"Oakley," said Catina her voice wavering, "I'm not scared of him. How is he my boggart?"
Everyone watched as Catina stepped towards the sunflower again and it changed back into the boy. "Naughty, Kitty, don't hide from me. Look how much you've grown, such a pretty girl then and now the princess has turned into such a gorgeous little lady."
"I'm not scared of you Oakley," she said sternly, "I've never been scared of you. But this isn't how you talk. You never called me princess, you never called me Kitty. Only Hardin did..." She stopped herself and took a closer look, on his chin sat a mole, only small but still visible and on his left cheek, another sat.
His lips cracked into a smirk once more and bit his lip slowly which made the majority of the males watching cringe in disgust and the women to raise their eyebrows. "You're right, Kitty."
"Why are you in Oakley's clothes?" She demanded, her eyes narrowing into slits and fists clenching.
"You're not scared of my dear brother, Kitty, but me. I'm you're worst nightmare! Remember Halloween? When you were dressed in your Smurfette outfit and I-"
It was a split second. Catina's hand shot into her pocket and whipped out her wand, she pointed it dead at his face and murmured, "riddikulus," he contorted into a box with a handle; a jack in the box. "Excuse me," she said pushing through the group, Remus trailing after her.
"Cat, dear," called Molly who also followed the young girl, Catina stopped and turned to face the woman, her face deadpan and emotionless, "go to the park, but only the park. Remus goes too but give her space, take Sirius in dog form only."
Catina nodded her head and trailed down the stairs. Her mind filled with images of her past, the previous twins in her life. One good. One bad. Like Fred and George, except George was nothing like Hardin Emryz and Fred was only similar to Oakley Emryz in the sense of his kindness. Yet they are so different but so similar.
In the park she slumped against a tree, staring back at the house where her mind wandered into a pit of darkness, where she once buried something so deep that she never wished to dig back up again. It seemed that moving into 12 Grimmauld Place was a switch to turn that around, ever since she stepped foot into that house everything seemed to come back to haunt her. Things seemed to keep going wrong for her.
Could she go back? Not a single cell in her brain was in favour of Catina stepping foot back into that house, not if she wanted to come out of it sane. Her mind was a mess, her whole life was one big mess. A mess that needed to be cleaned up but was too deep that she has lost her feet in amongst it. But not only her feet but herself. Catina Lennox no longer was the girl she was supposed to be. She could no longer be herself. Not ever. So what was the point in trying, especially when all odds are against her? 12 Grimmauld place being the gates blocking her from leaving to start her life over again; a better life, one where she could be herself and not have a care in the world. But who would be her angel to guide her?
