Chapter 30 - KMCF
The supposed phone call that I was going to get from Hunter, hadn't arrived yet. It had been two days since then, and I was already believing that the phone call before was just to pull off one of his stunts.
"How about we have a spa day?"
"No, do you even know Grace? She practically lives at a spa."
I didn't want to be the girl who waited for the boy to call, but I was. I didn't mean to, every little sound my phone made, I immediately assumed it to be Hunter. It had become so tiring to the point where I thought it was hopeless, however, I still checked my phone.
"Ooh! We could hire a stripper!"
I snapped out of my thoughts and instantly got hold of the person who spoke. "A stripper?"
"Ah, look who's finally paying attention," Miranda mocked, followed by a few simpers.
I found myself on a couch surrounded by eight women and a variety of snacks. Inside the home of Quinn, one of the bridesmaids. We were gathered together to think of an idea or a plan for Grace's bachelorette party. Usually the bride's last night of being single was the night before her wedding, but Grace made it clear she wanted that night to be off-limits. It was her night to get double the beauty sleep. Her bachelorette party had to be a week before her wedding, no later than that and that was what got us scrambling to think of something. It had to be a phenomenal event because after all, the person we were dealing with was Grace.
"Sorry," I let out an inaudible sigh. The whole Hunter thing, you'd think would keep me alert, but it was drowning me in anxiety.
Andrea, a blonde with a bob spoke up. "Just help us think of how we can throw Grace an amazing party."
"This is supposed to be the Maid of Honor's job anyway," Miranda said and along with mumbled agreements from everyone else.
"Gee, thanks,"I let out another sigh, but this one was louder and deliberate. "Fine, if I think of an idea we end up using, I'm taking all the credit."
"That's fine by us." Nina shrugged her shoulders and brought her cup to her lips.
I was both pressing my lips together and toying with the mug I had in my hands just to come up with a party idea for Grace. Grace is my sister, I've known her for all of my life, yet all of her interests constantly changed like the weather. However, if I could tie her personality to party themes, I could get some kind of idea for the bachelorette party.
Grace wasn't the type to go clubbing, she didn't like situations where she couldn't control them. The venue had to be something that allowed her to do whatever she wanted, so of course it had to be private. The weather was getting nicer every day so it couldn't be an indoor location. Somewhere she could relax and enjoy the sun.
"A pool!" I screamed in excitement. I didn't mean to say it out loud nor receive puzzled looks. "Grace also likes city views, so the pool has to be held in a really high place." I mumbled to myself.
"Like a rooftop pool?" Andrea questioned.
"Yes!" The venue was starting to complete itself, a rooftop pool party wasn't a bad idea.
"I know the perfect place that we can rent, it's extravagant and affordable," Ellie began to look through her phone, probably for more information.
"Great and for food, we can hire Grace's favorite restaurant to cater." I said.
"Kallivona? I'll check if they're available." Quinn added.
"Grace doesn't like DJs. But, since there isn't a single band out there that knows and can sing every song Grace likes, we have to hire a DJ. They can't be too upbeat. They should subtle, and persuasive enough to get everyone dancing." All of what I said were things I thought I was thinking of, only I was actually saying them out loud.
"That's easy!" Everyone gave Adriana looks of disbelief, but her smile still stayed. "I already have a DJ in mind, so we can cross that out."
"Okay, what about men? It's not a bachelorette party without men." Reese placed a cunning smile on her lips.
Reese had a point, every bachelorette party included some form of naughty entertainment. "No strippers, if that's what you're thinking."
"Of course not."
I searched everyone's faces, hoping someone had a solution to the problem. "Well, you got me there. I don't know."
"We could borrow male models from Marcos," Miranda whispered.
"No, he wouldn't-"
Doesn't he owe you one? You saved his family's company after all.
"That's not a bad idea, he owes me one anyway." I drifted my attention to the rest of the women who seemed eager to know what Miranda was whispering about. "How about we fill this rooftop pool party with male models?"
With models, Grace could talk to them about anything that revolved around a healthy lifestyle and fashionable choices. With meatheads, they could hardly discuss one topic without a pickup line.
"Models? You're definitely kidding." Reese began to obnoxiously laugh.
"Do you want models or not?" Miranda jumped in. It took Reese a while to agree and when she did everyone else did as well.
"Good, we got the venue, food, entertainment and music completed in less than twenty min-" a sound abruptly cut me off.
I searched for the sound, but soon I realized it was my phone blaring in between the cushions. The screen flashed with a name when I rescued it from its hiding place.
Annoying Idiot
I looked at Miranda, who also read the name on my phone before I picked it up. She made everyone silent with the sliding motion of her hand.
"Hello?" My voice slightly cracked amid my greeting.
"Hey," Hunter voiced back.
"If you're calling to mess with me, I'm not in the moo-"
"Jen," there was a short pause. "Let's talk. My place." From the tone of his voice, I easily inferred that he was serious.
I gave Miranda a glance and in return she gave me a confidence boosting smile, she knew exactly what was happening. "When?" There it was again, the slight crack.
"I was hoping right now," Hunter answered.
"Give me ten minutes."
"Okay, see you."
"Bye," I pulled away from my phone and hung up. "Something just came up, I have to go." As I stood up, I elevated my handbag also.
"What about the bachelorette party? We're not done yet." Quinn stared with concern.
I observed all of the confounded faces gazing at me before deciding on what to do. I looked at Miranda for a helping hand.
"We can finish the rest of the planning later, we still have some time left." Miranda reassured, like I knew she would. I conveyed to her an expression filled with gratitude and relief and after that I exchanged my apologies and goodbyes.
I practically rushed into my car. This was it, the truth.

I entered the building after passing a few men wandering around with cameras. I was just about to pass by the same snotty receptionist, who always seemed to be on duty whenever I arrived.
"Excuse me, Miss!" I looked in the direction of the voice and soon found out it belonged to her.
I taped on a smile after realizing it was me she wanted a moment with. "Yes?"
The receptionist didn't even bother to hide how she felt about me, but I simply ignored it. "It's a new and temporary procedure now, any visitors must state where they'll be going before heading to that location."
I wasn't sure if this really was a procedure or something she made up just for me, either way I couldn't prove or disprove it. "Okay, I'm just going to see Hunter Manning."
"And you are?" Her badly done eyebrow raised itself higher than it was drawn, though there was hardly a difference.
"Jennifer. Jennifer Anderson."
She eyed me from head to toe, from my casual teal summer dress to my embroidered sandals. "Wait a moment, Ms. Anderson." She tapped a few numbers on the telephone placed by her computer.
It didn't take long for her to start having a phone discussion. "Mr. Manning, sorry to disturb you, but I have a Ms. Jennifer Anderson, who's here to see you." I couldn't help, but roll my eyes. It was obvious receptionist knew who I was, she really didn't like me. "Okay, thank you."
She hung up the phone and started to scribble something down on a small, blue piece of paper. "Here, give it to the man in the elevator." The receptionist said as she handed me the paper.
I glanced at the paper, which was somewhat like a high school hall pass. It had my name written on it, the floor I was heading towards and a rectangular box on the bottom right handed side. "Thanks," I smiled again and she cringed.
After numerously tapping the up button on the elevator, I was able to get on it. There was man who wore the same colored jacket as all the staff members and stood in front of the elevator controls. I was hesitant to give him the blue card I had received, but there didn't seem to be any other man who looked official enough to have my card be given to.
The dirty blonde man intensely scanned my card and placed a gold stamp on the now filled in the rectangular box. He gave it back and then tapped my floor number. I didn't know what else to do with the card, so I tucked it into one of my handbag's pockets.
There was a wave of awkward silence in the elevator and it made the experience unsettling. The ride didn't take long, but it felt lengthy. I was already standing in front of Hunter's door, waiting for him to open it after I rang his high-tech door bell.
He opened the door in just a few seconds with a somewhat hardened face. He was wearing the same thing he had worn the last time I was here. A black dress pants, a dress shirt --sleeves pushed up to his elbows and one or two buttons left alone at the top-- that accentuated the high defined body he had. His hair was the perfect mixture of styled and tosseled. His five o'clock shadow added a bit more handsome to his already good looking features.
"Hey," a tiny smile appeared on his plush, supple lips.
I shook my thoughts away, I couldn't get distracted. "Hi."
"Come in," he opened his door much wider and allowed me to enter his luxurious penthouse.
