Chapter 3 - KMCF
"Today looks sunny," I said, glaring outside the window. "What do you think, Ozzy?"
Ozzy didn't do a great deal, but tilt his head and meow. "I'll take that as a yes," I said gleefully, I paused for a second. I questioned why I was so happy. Was it because of Ozzy's response or was it Hunter?
It couldn't have been because of Hunter, right? He played with your emotions, Jennifer. Unless you're some kind of masochist, you should be raging with anger.
I squeezed the curtains. Back to reality, Jennifer.
I went into my walk-in closet and threw on a floral skater skirt, a pastel pink crop top with a laced white blazer. "How do I look, Ozzy?" I spun around a little. Ozzy nonchalantly walked out of the room, causing me to sigh. "You've already eaten, Ozzy! If that's what you looking for!" I hollered out. The white cat came back into my room with a depressing aura hanging over him.

I flung the front door open and left my condo. It's not every day that you get to enjoy mornings. I felt as if I was free, freely being able to do what I please. The wind blew quite strong, which didn't matter to me. I liked the effect it had on my outfit, it made it more flattering. So, of course I get rid of my smile. Well, now I could, the sun was being concealed by grey clouds. The sky was getting duller and duller by the minute and then it started. Rain.
"Shît," I muttered. Unexpectedly, a large shade protected me from the rain, and then I looked up and saw Hunter holding a black umbrella.
"You shouldn't swear, Jen," he said smiling.
I rolled my eyes, even though I was happy he showed up. "Are you stalking me now?"
He dug his free hand into his pocket, while I watched observantly. He wore a casual short sleeve shirt with a left chest pocket, dark jeans and Oxford shoes. I slightly bit the inside of my cheeks to keep myself from biting my lips.
"More like heading to your store." He said.
"And how do you know I have a store?" I questioned, narrowing my eyes at him.
"Your mom."
That's just great, thanks mom.
"Alright, so what exactly is your motive, Hunter?" I mocked.
"Nothing," he laughed softly. "Is it so bad that I'd like to know where my childhood friend works?"
You had years of opportunities. Why now?
"No, but why-" In the midst of my question, the memory of last night broke loose and changed my question to an awkward sentence. "Uhm, about last night.." I said, remembering how he broke into my home for a grand appearance.
"What about it? Do you want to finish off from where we left off?" He said with a serious face, but I knew that I shouldn't mix up reality and fantasy. God knows I did think over his question extensively.
"That's not what I mean." I said, attempting to keep my voice stern and strict.
He handed off a quick laugh. "I came over because I just didn't want to show up casually. Who knows how you would've reacted?"
"That makes total sense," I said sarcastically. "So, how did you find out where I lived?"
"Part of the additional things your mom told me." Hunter answered my questions fast enough that I couldn't think of new ones. Silence fell upon our conversation, all the sounds on the streets were now noticeable. The beating of the pouring rain, laughter of kids and the splashes within the driven cars. Everyone and everything had a certain thing to do this morning, kinda like a job. Job that word rang in my head, until it finally found a way to make use.
"Don't you have a job?" I blurted out.
He nodded like it was nothing. I wondered if he had a crâppy job that he wasn't proud enough of to share. Yet, I just couldn't stop myself from peeling off the band-aid.
"What do you do?" I noticed Hunter's jaw twitch as I finished my question.
"I own a hotel in Las Vegas," Hunter said carelessly, "Cacciatore Albergo."
My face felt hot as he rolled off the two Italian words of his tongue. "Sounds famous." I replied, trying to keep my cool. A hotel didn't sound like a treacherous job, in fact it wasn't at all. A building filled with beds and food, what's not to love? Only, Hunter looked like he didn't feel the same.
He shrugged his shoulders as if he didn't care, I looked up at him and stared closely at his frowning face. I looked down at my shoes and watched over my feet with each step they took. I wanted to go on questioning him, but now I felt too pushy and shut my mouth. Even if I had a right to ask. Rather, I asked questions in my head and that maybe another time I'd ask them to him.
What brings you back to town?
Do your parents know you're here?
Are you currently dating anyone?
What the hell, Jen?
I shook my head aggressively, hoping I could forget the last thought.
"I just needed to see family and friends. So, I took the chance when Grace invited me to be a part of her wedding. And don't worry, my parents know I'm here, we talked yesterday. And No, I'm not currently in relationship." Hunter smiled. As if he was reading my thoughts, Hunter had left me speechless.
"You're easy to read." Hunter grinned and then tilted the umbrella to his left accrediting the rain to pour only a small ounce on me. Before I could act, I checked the time 7:40am. I looked ahead and realized that Anders was close by. Unexpectedly, I grabbed the umbrella and ran like hell to my boutique, leaving Hunter drenched on the way there. I felt like we were kids once more, I was able to erase my mind of my problems and concern. I savored the minutes I got chased by him. Seeing him soaked caused me to laugh and smile, only Miranda didn't feel the same.

I swear it feels like I wrote the first few chapters as if I was drunk. Forgive me. After all, I am SLOWLY editing.
