Chapter 23

Chapter 23 - KMCF

"I'm going to go use the bathroom," I whispered into Marcos's ear.

He sent me a quick glance before replying. "Do you want me to show you where it is?"

"I'll just ask a server," I said. I waited for some type of approving gesture before I got up, fixed my dress and distanced myself from the large mass.

I sighed silently to myself as I walked aimlessly through various halls. I lied about my desire to use a restroom, I just needed to separate myself from him and the suffocating air surrounding him.

After, we pretended as if we were unfamiliar with each other, Macros and I sat down near him. He began to express situations he encountered with some workers, situations that were extremely funny and caused everyone to burst into laughter. Well, except for me, I restrained myself from showing even a single authentic smile. From their reactions to his deliberate jokes you could see a small smile form that made my heart skip a beat. He then pushed aside all things funny to give out some helpful tips and information about business that sucked everyone in. Marcos seemed to the one who was most interested, it was like watching a student taking notes on a professor's teachings.

I found an elegantly carved double door just waiting to be open by curiosity. So, I opened it and immediately was dumbfounded by the beauty hidden behind. It was a gorgeous terrace with the best view of the city and a sunset. On terrace were scatterings of large flowers and lanterns that were ready to shine as soon as darkness fell. The terrace was large enough to have two separate, but conjoined wooden sofas that had matching coffee tables. I walked towards the detailed designed railing with its length being below my chest. I caught sight of a pool across the high leveled terrace mocking me with its tempting, authentic, blue color and hidden sparkles.

I sat in the closest seat that had the best view of the sunset. I didn't have anything on me, nor with me, so I was unable to capture the mixture of pink, purple, blue, orange, and yellow painted all over the sky that was once just blue. For a few moments, I was able to attach myself to something else and I was actually feeling quite happy.

I didn't know how long it had been since I had been here, but I didn't care. The sound of the doors being opened snapped me out of my dreamlike state. I quickly got up from my seat and was immediately on defense. Slowly the figure began to reveal itself: tall, brown hair, and definitely a man. Until the doors opened wide, I had no idea it was Hunter.

I straighten my stance and fixed the rim of my dress knowing he was watching my every move. You could say I was giving him the silent treatment, but to me, I wanted him to know how his lies were affecting him and me.

I walked past him in a quick pace, so I was able to get a whiff of his scent, cologne and clean laundry. Was it terrible for me to miss his scent even though I had been mad at him since yesterday? Once that thought popped into my head, I knew right away that I needed to leave otherwise I'd be wrapped around his finger again.

You still are.

"Can we talk?" He asked. My movements paused just when I was about to open the door.

I didn't say anything until moments later. I was debating with myself, not about whether we should talk, but if I wanted to break my silent treatment; though I had already cracked it a little. "We did that yesterday," I replied.

Pressure was placed downward on the door handle by my hand, I was on the verge of leaving until he spoke. "Jen!" He called out my name, not out of anger. It sounded more earnest.

With that, I couldn't help but turn and face him. "We argued, not talked."

For a few seconds, we only stared at each other like it was a form of communication. His reasoning made sense, but I was being stubborn, hard to deal with.

"I lied to you and that was wrong, but you have to know that I was doing it for your own benefit." He said as the scene began to dim. "I'm going to tell you everything, just wait a little longer."

I didn't say anything.

He took a deep breath before he parted his delectable, soft lips. I mean, lips. "You never would've left the matter alone if I didn't fib a little."

Just staring at him made me frustrated, he seemed frustrated too. All I wanted was the truth and nothing, but the truth.

"I don't have a lot to say because I can't say much. Jen please try to understand, put yourself in my shoes." He frowned slightly, his once lively, gorgeous face was now a rock-hard surface.

You should put yourself in MY shoes.

I kept my mouth shut, I wasn't ready to forgive him. His small speech didn't convince me, the one thing I was in favor of were, answers. He hurt me, but all he was only concerned about was persuading me into turning back to his personal charger. In other words, I wasn't set to look past the mistakes he caused nor was I prepared to respond back when I could accurately predict his reply.

"I'm aware of the fact that none of what I'm saying helps, just know I'm not attempting to harm you. I didn't even mean for you to find out everything so early, you deserve better." He said.

I still remained silent.

His svelte fingers rushed through his superlatively designed hair, not to mention his inability to scatter his style. "Jen, at least say something."

I situated my hands back onto the entrance's handle. "You should head back, I'm sure they're missing the guest of honor by now." A hollow beam formed itself on my lips. The door's shank was gently rugged and only opened wide enough for my body outline.

I flawlessly fit through, he didn't dare to call out my name or chase after me. I wondered if he thought there would be no point or if he believed he should stop trying. He wasn't my number one priority at the moment, I had come to consideration that I was lost.

That was my punishment for moseying around a building with multiple, living room sized hallways. I couldn't call to mind where I came from and I knew trying to figure it out was just going to bury me into more confusion. I also didn't have my phone on me, I wished I hadn't left it with Marcos.

I only had two choices. Roam around until I could remember items that caught my attention or go back and ask Hunter for help.
