Tooking a chance.
It was a sunny day in Zootopia..
Okay, obviously no one cares.
But yeah, it was sunny, warm too. And all the little kids in the neighborhood were obviously at the community pool.
And out the kitchen window stared the small seven year old body of August WildeHopps.
"Whacha staring at, bud?" Nick asked as he walked past, picking him up and lifting him in the air.
August giggled and waited for his dad to put him down to speak. "I wanna go to the pool." He said in a hopeful manner.
Nick sucked his teeth. "Carrots!"
"Yeah?" Judy called from upstairs.
"You wanna go to the pool?"
"Pool?" Aleah questioned and Nick jumped up in shock.
"A-Aleah! Don't do that!"
"Do what?"
"Scare me like that!" Nick shivered, pushing her in the arm.
She giggled and jumped up and down. "We're going to the pool! Wait-what's a pool??"
"You don't know what a pool is?" Nick gawked, switching looks between the two.
"If yah haven't already noticed, Leah's kinda slow in the head." August said.
"Am not! How you gonna play me like that? We're supposed to be siblins."
Nick raised an eyebrow. "Siblins?"
She nodded.
"Aleah it's pronounced siblings. Say it with me. Sib-lings." Nick said before getting punched by Judy.
"Nick, she's seven!"
"When I was seven I knew how to say supercalifragi-something like that."
"supercalifragilisticexpiali-docious?" Judy said with ease and Nick pushed her playfully.
"You nerd." He muttered. "And how'd you even get down here so fast?"
The bunny wiped something off of Aleah's face while talking. "I did something so magical Nick, I used my legs and walked down the steps." Sarcastically she said.
Nick gasped. "Woah! I wanna try it!"
"I wanna try too!" The kits answered, tails wagging as they followed their dad to the stairs.
It was funny how influenced they were when it came to their father. They'd run off a mountain as long as their dad was with them.
Dumb fox..Judy thought, getting out her phone and taking a picture of them running up and down the stairs.
She looked around and didn't see Aiden. So she walked in the living room to see he was on the couch sleeping.
The bunny curiously took her two fingers and open the lids of his eyeball. She giggled like a little kid when she saw his eye roll back.
It gave her memories of when she was younger.
"Aiden.." She whispered to him.
"Aiden Aiden..."
"Aiden...You want some food?"
"You want a cookie?"
The seven year old jumped up and looked around. "Where are the cookies?" He asked sleepily.
"In your mom." She joked, making herself laugh.
Aiden tilted his head in confusion and didn't bother asking what it meant.
"Hey Aiden, go get your stuff stuff ready, we're going to the pool."
Aiden sat up and sleepily trudged to the room he shared with his siblings.
XXXX
Once they got to the pool, there were lots of mammals, some tanning, some in very small bikinis, and then the local outcasts being creeps in the water.
Good thing there were kiddie pools.
Judy, Nick, and the kits, found a good place to sit and sat down their stuff under a shaded area.
"Daddy, why is everybody naked?" Aleah asked, this brought Nick and Judy to laugh.
"They're not naked," he started. "They have swimsuits on."
"I like it." Aiden admitted, tail swaying as he saw a group of vixens walk pass.
Judy snorted and started to laugh. "I swear her reminds me of you, Nick."
The fox rolled his eyes. "Yeah yeah, let's go get changed." He said to his sons.
Judy took Aleah by the paw. "Let's go get changed also."
By time Aleah and Judy were into their swimsuits, the boys were already splashing in the water. Literally. Just splashing. For no reason.
"Mommy I wanna go over there!" Aleah pointed to the deep end of the pool, with the diving board.
"It's too deep Leah, you can't swim."
"Yes I can."
"No you can't."
"Yeah I can, I swim like this." The seven year old made hand movements of which a dog would do if it were thrown into water.
"Aleah that's the doggy paddle. You can't swim." Judy said firmly.
She picked up her daughter and walked to the kiddie pool. She sat her in the cold water which was about bellybutton length to the seven year old.
"See, this is way more fun." Judy said and Aleah finally smiled.
"Look at daddy." She pointed.
Judy turned and watched as Nick pretended to act like a shark in the water.
Judy yelped when Nick grabbed her leg, pulling her into the water. "Nick!"
"What?" The fox said like nothing happened.
Judy growled and couldn't help but smile. "Dumb fox." She said, rolling her eyes.
Nick chuckled and lifted Aleah over to him. "Having fun?" He said to her and she nodded.
"Daddy how long can you hold your breath under water?"
Nick frowned but then a smirked swiped across his face. "I bet I can stay under longer than you." He snickered.
Aleah shook her head. "Nope! I can beat you."
"I'll count." Just suggested and the two nodded.
"Ready set go!"
Nick hurriedly ducked his head under water but Aleah looked at him with a smirk on her face.
"He thinks I'm under water too. He's so gullible." Aleah said placing a paw on her hips.
Judy laughed. "You truly are your father's daughter."
..
"Hey Auggie?" Aiden asked while running up to his brother.
"Yeah?"
"Wanna swim in the deep part of the pool?"
August frowned. "Daddy said we're not aloud."
"So." Aiden scoffed. "Let's go anyway."
The seven year old shook his head. "I'm not going."
"Fine. I'll go." Aiden said before walking off.
"I'm gonna tell daddy!" August yelled.
"Snitches get stitches!"
August turned around to walk when he was stopped by his sister.
"You're going to tell daddy what?" She questioned, staring her brother down.
"I'm gonna tell daddy that Aiden is going to go to the big pool."
"So what? Let him drown."
"No! That's our brother!"
"That's exactly why God gave me two brothers, 'cause if one of them does something stupid and dies, I still got another one." She said with ease watching Aiden stand by the ladder to the pool.
"Why are you so mean?" August asked with shock.
"I'm not mean. It's just that I care about certain things more than others. And having two brothers, I really don't care about."
August shook his head in pity.
"That's sad. Well, I'm off to find dad-"
"Don't tell him! Let him find out on his own."
"What if Aidy dies?"
"One less person to share the room with." Aleah simply said and skipped away.
"You are one mean sister." The seven year old boy muttered before walking off with her.
Aiden slowly descended down the ladder, his paws gripping on it tightly. He finally let go and was able to keep his head up put of the water for more than a second before it pulled him down.
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Please...do it for me carrots!"
"No Nick! We're in public."
"So? You can still do it."
"Uggh okay, fine."
The bunny leaned over and gave the fox a peck on the cheek. "There. Happy?"
"Judes where's Aiden?" Nick asked standing up from his chair. He saw August and Aleah in the kiddie pool but he didn't see Aiden.
"I'll go ask Auggie and Leah." Judy suggested and Nick nodded.
He began asking people have they seen his son.
"I saw this weird fox thing near the ladder earlier." A wolf said and Nick nodded, following the direction the wolf pointed.
He made it to the ladder to see his son deep under water. "Aiden!" He cried before jumping in and grabbing him. He pulled the seven year old out of the water and on to the floor.
Judy saw this and quickly ran over to them.
"Where was he?" She asked.
"At Hogwarts, Judy." Nick snapped back with sarcasm.
The bunny rolled her as and watched as her husband performed CPR on her son.
Aleah and August slowly approached them as a whole crowd started to for.
"What if he doesn't wake up?" August whispered and Aleah's ears fell down.
She began to feel bad for letting this happen to her brother. She regretted making fun of him and acting like she wouldn't care if he died.
"H-he's going to wake up.." She said.
After another try to get him to breathe she got more worried.
"He's going to wake up...Aidy wake up!" Tears formed in her eyes as she saw her brother laying unconsciously on the ground.
Nick kept trying to get his son to wake up. He had already tried eight times yet the child was unresponsive.
"Nick try again!" Judy yelled, holding her son's paw.
"What do you think I'm doing?" He said back, trying his best to at least get him to breathe.
He placed his muzzle to his sons mouth and continued to blow air into his lungs, hoping that the seven year old would breathe.
"Aiden get up! Please!" Aleah cried now standing above her brother and father.
The paramedics finally arrived and Nick was forced to move so that they could help Aiden.
"How long has he been unresponsive?" One of the medics asked.
"About one or two minutes." Judy answered, her voice trembling.
The medic nodded as the other one began helping him breathe.
Barely thirty seconds later, a small cough was heard. And then another, and another.
The medic backed away and watched the seven year old cough up water and start to cry.
Judy hurriedly grabbed her son and pat him on the back as he kept crying while Nick thanked the paramedics.
"D-daddy is Aiden alive?" Aleah asked her father. Nick nodded with relief. "Yes he's alive."
When Aiden got to his feet and the crowd cleared, Nick had been holding his son's paw when he spoke.
"I'm sorry." Aiden muttered, ears droopy.
Nick shrugged. "It's okay because you took a chance. Not necessarily a good one but you had your mind set on something and you weren't going to let that go. Just like your mother."
Aiden thought about that before speaking. "Daddy?"
"Yeah?"
"One say, when I'm big enough...I wanna took a chance again.."
Kisses Of The Rain..
Tooking a chance.
