Like I Promised
Nick cautiously read over the case file papers for Bryson Savage. He was confused..
At first, he was determined and ready to split that bunny in half. But now, when he really thought about it, he doesn't have a lead. He has no where to start and no where to gain clues.
Nick flipped through the paper one more time while still sitting in his car, parked outside the ZPD. Then he realized something.
If Bryson is Jack's brother, then that could mean Jack had something to do with it. But today had been the set date for Bryson to get sentenced to death, meaning Jack could have been there to say his goodbyes. Could I be right?
All this came piling into Nick's head. Jackson-Bryson-Prison Break....
"Damn it!" Nick yelled, slamming his paws on the steering wheel.
He had already bitten off more than he can chew. If Jack had something to do with it, with the prison break, there was no doubt that Nick would kill him too. Being a Zootopian police officer, he could possibly get twenty years to life for murder.
But it's worth it. What Bryson did, that's unforgivable. What he did to Judy....
Nick caught himself growling and quickly stopped. He had somewhere to go, something to do.
XXXX
Nick arrived at the prison and waited for the guards to see him so they could open the gates but, the guards weren't present. Nick beeped his car horn twice but there were still no movement.
Immediately, he knew he had to call backup. Something wasn't right.
Definitely, wasn't right.
When backup came Nick quickly asked if Judy was safe, and the officers said she was accompanied back to bunny burrow with officer Taylor.
He somewhat felt better knowing she was safe. Anyway, Nick walked up to the large buffalo.
"Tell me what's the problem here?" Chief Bogo said to him.
"The prison guards are always on high alert but none of them are on the wall."
"Alright, I need all officers in full gear to get in formation in front of the prison gates." Bogo huffed.
"Sir, yes sir!" They all chanted before quickly doing what was told.
They were all lined up, gear on, and guns readied. The only thing holding them back was chief's permission. He had all officers in a total of eight groups of four. Each had to search a certain section of the prison.
"Once inside, radio in. Keep in contact and follow any clues."
Officer Wolford and Officer Mcguffy pried open the gates with hazard equipment and all the officers quickly and silently filed in, guns raised and on high alert.
Nick was chosen to lead his group to the north side of the prison, near the cafeteria but more to the eastern ridge. Meaning they'd have to pass the courtyard entry and enter through the main. And by the sight of blood already on the floor meant their terrorist were still here.
"Wilde, do you copy?" An officer said into his ears piece which was connected to Nick's.
"Wilde here, what's the situation?"
"Blood sightings, officer. We believe it's about an hour old."
"Roger that, relatable problem here also." Nick replied, quite disgusted by the blood he'd had to step over.
"Any signs of life?" The officer asked him.
"Negative, inmates flat lined."
They continued to somewhat speed walk down the cell halls. Trying their best not to puke from the gruesome murdered animals in the cells. Bullet holes left cracks in the walls, blood rusted the steel cell bars, and blood also painted the walls and floor like a child finger painting on a perfect canvas. The dark crimson color of life itself, splattered and smeared between the tiles in the floors and the bricks that stood for walls.
An officer gagged and pinched his nose. Of course he would. Prisons were full of bugs, and insects, meaning, the dead bodies had to decompose. Which lead to bugs making a feast off of the dead mammals. Causing a nose churning stench to reek in the air.
Nick didn't care, he carefully moved down the hall, one thing, one person on his mind. Bryson. How he was going to find him. Then kill him. It was perfect. him at least.
But he soon stopped in his tracks as he noticed a peculiar smell not of blood and gunpowder. But one of a mammal. A mammal in perhaps, bunny. Soon, more animals could be smelled. It was easy for a fox to pick up smell.
The strongest one was one of a jack-rabbit. But multiple scents he detected also.
Nick turned to the other officers who have the same expression as him, a confused one. They all stood quiet. No noise, no sounds at all, just the slow dripping of a nearby sink. Slowly dripping it did. At a steady pace, drip, drop.
"Officer Wilde! We've been compromised! They ambushed us with-" Nick's radio buzzed before cutting off.
The sound echoed loudly. Another long moment of silence, a metallic sound was heard. Nick turned to where it was and gasped. "Everyone hold your breath! It's a gas bomb!"
The little canister of tear gas exploded, and with that, so did open gunfire. Nick quickly jumped in an open cell, arm covering his eyes and the other supporting the gun.
"Smells beautiful doesn't it, Wilde." The voice of Bryson echoed through the hall once the gun fire stopped.
The brown bunny had a gas mask on and a PDW, which is a pistol, in his other paw. "Why don't you spare you team some living time and come on out!"
Nick's eyes burned, slightly irritated. He held his arm on to his eyes, hoping to stop the low burning sensation. He blindly reached for his pistol tucked in his holster and flipped it off of safety before shooting in the direction of Bryson's voice.
"Aw, the little fox won't speak up. I hope you know I could've caught that bullet with my teeth."
He said, slowly walking with his goons following loyally behind him.
One of the officers that was with Nick's team shot at one of Bryson's guards, causing him yo fall on the floor in pain. "Do you wanna play hard, Wilde?"
Another gas bomb was released, this time a sleep gas one. The officers started to cough, but Nick held his breath while still on the floor of the cell.
Some of the officers can out of hiding, their paws held high surrendering. Bryson smirked, "Where are y'a Wilde? Come out come out, wherever you are!"
The officers soon passed out due to inhaling the poisonous gas and there was a long pause of silence. Nick, who's face was red from lack of air tried. He tried to hold his breath.
"Still here aren't you. Some dumb fox you are."
Just hold it longer! C'mon Nick! This is for Judy....
Tears welled in the corner of his eyes from the lack of oxygen.
He soon gave in, deeply breathing the gas, the toxic gas.
He gasped, choking and coughing from the rough feeling in his throat. Bryson heard this and smirked. He followed the strained coughing and stood in front of the fox. Nick was on his paws and knees, hacking violently.
"Caught y'a." Bryson teased through his gas mask.
Nick looked up at the bunny and and quickly grabbed his pistol, pulling the trigger. Wanting to end it all.
Just as the bullet flew out the gun and hit Bryson, Nick fell over, his grip on the gun loosened.
His vision blurring and going dark but he saw the bunny hit the ground, he saw him in pain. Nick tuned out all sounds and fought closing his eyes. He knew it was just gas, nothing deadly. But if Bryson lives, he could kill him. It'd be room easy. Too quick.
I promised I'd kill him....he'll die. If he's not dead already..
Nick finally closed his eyes and with that...
He felt as though he was falling..
Kisses Of The Rain..
Like I Promised
