A Jolly Surprise

Three...?

Holy hell...three kits?!

..three. Three!? At least it wasn't four.

And...I get two sons.

But that's....THREE?!!

The red Fox pondered in his thoughts as the medicine started to ware off. His bunny, Judy, was currently in the kitchen telling her parents the good news.

Nick sat up, wiping his face and yawning. He then made his way into the living room. Then, he felt a sting in his foot. The Fox looked down to see left over pieces of the emerald necklace.
He mentally felt the heart ache he had months ago.

How broken he was...

Devastated. And he tried to hide it which only made him feel worse. Of course, if that wouldn't have happened, that moment  him and Judy had in the rain wouldn't have happened. And she wouldn't have gotten pregnant, and Nick wouldn't be able to give her the present he had.

He almost laughed when he thought of when they first saw each other. At the train station.

How Judy fell in a puddle and she pushed him in one. Then that following night, Judy made up the good luck kiss. Another day, he was sick, and she took care of him. Then, they argued about breaking his walls. Sadly, he was too dumb to realize she only wanted him to be open. Then they argued, ignored each other, and it was breaking Nick to pieces. He remembered crying, shredding to pieces. Judy was the only one who could make him break like that.

He fell in love with a bunny. Not just regular love, deep, sentimental love only valued by those who are built with that type of love in their hearts.

Interspecies are gross!, people would say.

Well...everyone is different.

Not everyone will accept the fact that a fox loves a bunny...Hell, they don't have to even be near them.

But they will respect it. For this couple been through hell and back, forget the negativity.

Why listen to them, when they should be listening to each other?

The fox quickly picked up the shattered emeralds and placed them in a nearby jar. He knew what he was gonna do with them, and it was as easy as pie.

Which reminded him.

"Judes, what time are we supposed to be at the Hopps house?" He yelled into the kitchen.

Judy ended her phone call and smiled. "Soon. Don't ask me how soon, I don't know."

He nodded and grinned. "Well, tomorrow's Christmas eve. What do you have planned?"

"A Christmas party. We do it every year. Its a family tradition."

Nick's smile slightly dropped. For he had never celebrated Christmas. Only because get had no family to celebrate with. His dad was no where to be found and his mother was always in and out the hospital. Christmas to him was saying hi to his mother, if he was aloud in the hospital due to his record.

"Nick..what's wrong?" Judy suddenly asked.

He sighed. "Do you...want to go see my mother?"

His tone reeked of sadness, so did his expression. "W-we don't have to-"

"Yes Judy. We do." He looked at her with pleasing eyes. "You have to meet her before..." He let out a shaky breath and started walking towards the door.

Judy immediately followed.

The duo stepped into the room, arms linked.
The lights were dim and the window blinds were closed.
Judy couldn't quite make out the figure on the hospital bed, but she knew it was Nick's mother.

Nick turned the light on, revealing a female fox. She looked about in her late fifties. Her fur seemed to be fading and a few wrinkles were visible on her muzzle. The vixen was hooked up to a breathing machine, her chest slowly rising and falling.

She looked so delicate, so fragile. Like she could break if hurt.
"Mom?" Nick whispered to the elder fox.

Mrs.Wilde's eyes slowly opened and she smiled weakly. "Nicholas..you came?" She said as she slowly sat up, removing the breathing mask in the process.

Nick quickly hugged the fox and smiled. "Mom, I have some mammals for you to meet."

Mrs.Wilde raised an eyebrow, looking at Judy. "I may be old, but I'm pretty sure there's only a bunny standing right there." His mother said, saying the obvious.

Nick chuckled nervously, "A-actually, mom.." He took a folded piece of paper from his pocket and handed to her.

Mrs.Wilde opened it with care and took a while to examine the paper.  It looked to be a photo of an ultrasound. Three small mammals all huddled together. Three small tails could be seen, one slightly small, another long, and the last one was of a bunny.

Mrs.Wilde looked up at her son and the bunny, the two had stupid grins on their faces that made her laugh. "Oh Nicholas, sweety why didn't you tell me sooner?" She gushed.

"I was. And I'd like you to meet Judy-my girlfriend...and the mother of my soon to be born children." Nick said with an adorable cheeky smile.

"Aw, you're gonna have hybrids!" She cheered.

Judy nodded and rubbed the back of her neck with her paw. "It was honestly kind of a surprise to have three." She admitted.

Mrs.Wilde grabbed Nick's paw with an almost depressed look in her eyes. "In case I don't make-"

"Mrs.Wilde...not to intrude on your conversation but, if you keep thinking your days are limited, then you won't be able to enjoy those days." Judy cut in.

The bunny placed her paw on the elder's shoulder. "Don't think that just because you're older, you're limited. I know you'll make it to see at least one of these hybrids, don't worry."

Mrs.Wilde nodded, "Nick, you got yourself a believer. I like that. Promise me you'll never lose her."

Nick smiled, "I promise."

The three talked some more but before Nick and Judy left, Mrs.Wilde stopped them. "Nicholas, Judith, I have something to give you two." She grabbed a small gift that was wrapped with Christmas paper. "Don't open it until Christmas."

The couple nodded and said their goodbyes.

                       XXXX

It was Christmas eve in the Hopps house.

Children played in snow while others decorated gleaming Christmas trees.

Parents baked delicious pies and treats while others whipped up famous cocktails, it was truly one busy day.

Just the day before, Nick had gotten Judy a present. Bigger than him and her put together. Though it was a wrapped box.
Judy begged him forever to let her get a peek, but Nick would always disagree.
He had told her it was a giant surprise.

Obviously since the box was bigger than her.

He had also bought Christmas presents for the Hopps children and the adults.
Just a some bottles of wine and two or three hundred Clawdolls and action figures.

It was cheap. Since Nick had the ultimate hookups.

So when they arrived with Finnick's van full of toys, all the little bunnies had huge smiles on their faces.

Of course he didn't let them open them until Christmas, which led the impatient bunnies to pout.

As the usual Hopps traditional goes, all the adults chat in the living room and cook in the kitchen while the children play in their rooms. That way, things seemed easier settled.
Now, the cop duo sat together on the bunny sized sofa, looking at bigger houses.

Obviously, if they were gonna have three kits they'd need a bigger house. And why try to buy one when you got a sibling that can help with renovation?

Judy was more than happy to look for a new house, since they'd been living in Nick's apartment due to Judy's being flooded. Nick, on the other paw, was quiet. More likely because he was bored.
It was a well known fact that most of the Hopps' population consisted of females. Holy hell, then.

But, the boys didn't really care because as long as they had a sister to help them get girlfriends, they were pretty happy.
Nick nodded his head to another one of Judy's questions. She had asked if he liked the color red. Even though he hated red, he had to agree or they'd be having a year long conversation about why he doesn't like it. It's just a Hopps thing.

To ask. To complain. To be annoying. To argue. To be super.....Carrot-y. Is to be a rabbit..The fox thought, rolling his eyes.

"Hey fox! You don't look happy!" A Hopps child pointed out, like it wasn't obvious.

Nick smirked at it and shook his head, "Yeah, I'm not happy, I'm hungry."

The small bunny grew scared. "Wh-what?"

Nick leaned closer to it, causing it to flinch. "Hmm..I wonder what rabbit tastes like?"

"Ah! Mommy the fox is going to eat me!"

Bonnie and Stu looked out from the kitchen frowning. Nick easily got everyone's attention.

"Nonsense, I'm gonna skin you, cook you, dip you in barbecue sauce......then eat you."

Everyone gasped...Well except for Judy. She rolled her eyes.

"Mom, dad, he's just kidding." Judy chuckled.

Stu's eyes widened and Judy turned around to see Nick's mouth around a baby bunny's neck while in his paws.

His eyes shifted to Judy's and he quickly nibbled at the baby's neck, causing  To giggle.

Once she turned back to her parents, Stu had his double barrel shot gun while Bonnie and Judy's other siblings carried kitchen knives.

"What the hell?!" Judy yelled, startling Nick.

Nick sat the baby on his lap and grinned like a complete idiot, which in fact, he was. "Well, obviously I won't be babysitting.l anytime soon." He said.

Judy kept a stern look at her family until they lowered their weapons. "Now, can we continue to get ready for the Christmas eve party?" Judy annoyingly asked her family.

They all nodded and continued preparing.
The bunny turned to Nick, who was on the phone now. It seemed like every time she turns her head on Nick, he's doing something stupid. She watched as he ended his call, sighing.

"What was it?" His bunny asked.

"It's Finnick..he said he'll be arriving soon, with a few other people." He replied.

"Oh, okay."

Then there was that awkward silence. Just between them because the whole house was loud on its own, however..things began to quiet down quickly, only to where soft muttering was heard.

Until Judy hissed in pain. Nick hurriedly turned to her. "Judy, what's wrong?"

The bunny gasped again and held her stomach. "It hurts!"

Nick raised an eyebrow, "What?! What hurts?!"

Bonnie caught sight of this and quickly rushed to her daughter. "Kicking?" She guessed.

Judy flashed a pained face and nodded. "W-why...does it hurt so bad?"

"Because you obviously got a bunny in there."

"B-but I feel.." She hissed again.

"S..scratching!" She finished.

The bunnies looked to the fox who extended his claws from his paws and saluted them.
"Of course." Bonnie sighed.

"Hey, not to be a burden but foxes don't grow nails until at least five months into pregnancy."

Judy frowned, "How would you know?"

"Oh, I dunno...but definitely not because my mom, who is a fox, gave birth to me..also a fox." Sarcastically said Nick.

And car horn startled all of them, and loud music began to play. Everyone went outside to see a red convertible, (Nick's car) The red fox smiled brightly.

Out of the car came Finnick, then Giddeon, Jada, Jack, and a oddly familiar brown ferret. Well, familiar to Judy.

"So, who wants to have a dance contest?" Finnick said and the bunnies cheered.

Music started play, and Finnick called out the first two people.

"Nick and Giddeon, dance contest!"

Everyone cheered, some clapping along time the song while others made way.

"But I don't know how to dance!" Nick shrieked.

"Just follow the music!" Judy giggled as Nick was getting dragged in to the dance circle.

Giddeon had already started dancing, kicking his legs and swinging his arms.

Nick rolled his eyes and started doing the dance he did at the Gazelle concert. At that rate, no one was winning.

"C'mon, Nick! You can do it!" June, Judy's sister cheered.

The red fox rolled his eyes and started doing the running man, which  kinda matched the beat.

Giddeon smirked and began dabbing...which was in fact, cringey.

Nick kicked his legs in the air and started moon walking, he then grabbed Bonnie's paw and spun her around, stepping to the beat as he did so.

Giddeon grabbed Jada and swung her by her hips, swaying with the music.

Nick let go of Bonnie who joined Stu on the dance floor. He then grabbed Judy and began dancing with her, his paw on her hips and his eyes on her.

Everyone started to join and began dancing with each other, having fun while in the front lawn of the Hopps house.

And the danced until their hearts content.

(Which was only for three minutes because it started snowing..)

Hungover...

Nick, Finnick, Jack, Giddeon...

All....Hungover.

And all sprawled out in the Hopps' living room.

Wow...Hangover on Christmas morning.

"What's wrong with them?" A bunny said, poking Giddeon with a spoon.

"Are they dead?" Another bunny asked.

Jack's ear flicked and scared the bunnies. He slowly woke up, noticing he was on the floor.
"W-why am I on the floor?" He obviously asked.

"You passed out, uncle Jack!"

Jack's eyes widened, "U-uncle?! No no...You got the wrong guy!"

"Nah fam, kid's right." Finnick muttered from the couch.

"Yay! Uncle Finnick is awake!"

The fennec fox immediately sat up shaking his head. "You kids don't want me as your uncle."

"Why not?"

"He's hungover on Christmas morning and you ask why not?" Jack muttered, looking for his tie.

Nick screamed and everyone jumped. "What the hell was that for?!" Finnick yelled.

Nick, who was on the floor also, held his foot. "Giddeon bit my foot!"

"Sorry..I thought it was a hamburger!" The chubby fox protested.

"You think everything is a hamburger!" Jack and Finnick snapped.

Nick yawned as he saw only two Hopps children and a wrecked living room.

"Wow...what happened last night?"

"I wish I could remember." Said Jack while pulling his tie from the well decorated Christmas tree.

"Worse scenario is, we all got drunk off of eggnog." Finnick stated, laying back on the couch.

"Hey! You ass! You kicked me off the couch!" Jack argued at Finnick.

Finnick grinned, "Maybe if you'd stop tryna be an ass kisser you'd have a spot."

"You little-"

"Hey! Us kids are still here!" One of the little bunnies warned.

Jack's shrugged and launched at Finnick, quickly tackling him and hand cuffing him to a nearby stool. "Ha. You need help you little baby?"

"You're little than me! And I ain't talking bout height."

Nick and Giddeon started laughing while Jack and Finnick glared at each other.

"I'm surprised from all that talking you do, you can even think straight."

"Ay, my talking gets me girls."

"The magazines don't count, porn head."

"What's porn?" One of the small bunnies asked.

"I think it's a vegetable." The other said.

"Let's go ask mommy."

In the corner of the room, a small animal was curled under a chair. "Who is that?" Nick asked, pointing.

Finnick chuckled nervously, "Well..that's my girlfriend. Skaila."

"You have a girlfriend?!" Nick, Giddeon, and Jack said in disbelief.

"Uh, yeah. Your rabbit was the first to meet her. " He looked at the ferret and sighed. "She may be different, but she's perfect in my eyes."

"That sound like something Nick would say." Jack's mentioned.

"Yeah, doesn't sound like you." Giddeon agreed.

"And losing weight don't sound like you." Finnick shot back at him.

"Well, we gotta get this oversized demon spawn of a house, cleaned." Nick figured, standing up.

They all nodded and began cleaning the house. It took about an hour but it was worth it. All worth the holiday spirit.

"Oh no.." Nick said after the four were done.

"What?"

"I forgot to hire a Santa Claus." Nick said with a sigh.

They all looked at Giddeon and smirked. "Aw hell no! I'm not going to cosplay as Santa Balls!" Giddeon complained.

After ten minutes, Giddeon was in a Santa costume sitting by the Christmas tree. The children soon woke up and went to the living room, where they tackled the chubby fox.

As they all opened the gifts Nick brought them, Judy slowly made her way down stairs to her fox.
"Good morning, Christmas Carrot." He teased and she yawned.
The bunny punched his arm and sighed. "It's a good thing that you bought things for everyone."

"Well yeah. I have to say thank you for the first Christmas I ever experienced." He chuckled softly.

Judy looked up at him and smiled. "I wonder how you got Giddeon to be Santa."

"It took a million and five hours but it was worth it." Judy giggled at his response and hugged him.

"So, where's my present rabbit?" Nick teased.

Judy smirked, "Your present(s) will come in five to four months."

"Har har..well, do you want to open your present?" He suggested.

The bunny nodded eagerly. Nick went to grab the very big box, which drew all the attention on them. "Okay, ya might wanna sit down for this." He said, gently setting the box on the floor in front of her.

Judy sat down and began to open it. She peeled the wrapping paper and saw a brown box under it. She opened the box to reveal another box.

"Nick.." She whined. "What is it, Snow Carrot?"

"I swear if there is another box inside that box I'm gonna kill you."

Nick chuckled and watch as she opened that box and saw a smaller box inside. She glared at her fox and he shrugged. Again, she opened another one to reveal another small box.

The bunny opened about twenty four boxes before she got to a much smaller box. "There better not be a midget box in there." She muttered while the fox got more nervous.

Opening the box, another small brown box sat in it. Judy glared at him and he motioned her to open it.

It could now fit in her paw, so she carefully opened it and saw a shiny black box. The bunny raised an eyebrow at the fox.

Nick smiled at her and took the box put of her paw.

He slowly got on one knee in front of her and smiled lovingly.

"Wow..how do I even began? You changed my life completely. From con-fox, to cop fox, I was happy that it came true with you by my side. Through the tough times, through the break up, hell even the rain, you've been on my mind. And every second without you, it kills me. Now I might be still be hungover but I do know one thing...

How can I call you mine without a ring to prove it?"

He opened the box to show her the two sided ring, one side emerald, and another side amethyst. It had a diamond heart in the middle.

"So Judith Laverne Hopps..Will you be the sly bunny to marry this dumb fox?" He looked her in her watery eyes.

"Y-yes! Of course I will!" She cheered and hugged him tightly.

Nick gratefully hugged her back and laughed, tears growing in his own eyes. "I thought you were gonna slap me for making you open all those boxes."

They broke the hug and everyone applauded. "Oh I still am, and here." Giving him a book she smiled.

Nick looked at it, "A scrapbook?"

"To keep all our memories in so we can show our kids."

He nodded and sighed, "This has been one hell of a jolly Christmas."

"Merry Christmas to all! And all! Goodnight!" Giddeon slurred before falling out the chair causing the Christmas tree to fall and land in the fire place...

Where it ignited in flames and burnt all the Christmas treats.

"Damn it, Giddeon! Now we can't have pie!" Finnick yelled.

Judy looked to Nick and the both sighed.

"What a jolly Christmas indeed.."
