This starts off from when she just entered high school (14-15 years old) and goes until she's almost 17

Enjoy~!

Yui's PoV

"Back off," I warned and narrowed my eyes. "I'll kill you."

"Kill me?" the girl asked with a mocking expression. "I'd like to see you try."

One of her lackeys tugged at her sleeve nervously and whispered, "Rina-chan, that's Yui Oh. You know? The one who's gotten a gold medal at every martial arts competition since she was twelve years old. We'd better not--"

"So what? I'm not afraid of her!" This Rina girl reached out and shoved me by my shoulder.

The bully victim whimpered behind me. I got annoyed, fast. I murmured something under my breath.

"Huuuhhhh? What'd you say? I can't hear you!"

"Rina-chan..."

"Shut up! Look at her! She isn't even doing anything!"

Some of the onlooking students began to search for their phone. I made sure some of them began filming. At this point, she was getting on my nerves. Perhaps I could scare her a little.

"Don't touch me," I provoked, and Rina took the bait easily. She shoved me again harder, but I fell down, making it seem like she pushed really hard and hurt me.

Just as she turned around to her lackeys to brag, I shot up from the ground and made a roundhouse kick aiming right at her head. Before she knew it, I slammed the front of my shin in the side of her head and knocked her down clean.

She fell on her side but didn't hit her head on the pavement. Good. If she splashed blood on my socks, it'd be a pain to wash. I lowered my leg, not once losing my balance.

Rina stuttered and stared at me with fear-stricken eyes. I glared at her two lackeys and they froze in place. I pointed at them. "People who simply stand around and watch are equally as guilty."

"W-We won't do it again!" They shouted, then turned and ran off.

I stared down at Rina as if she was gum under my shoe. "Just because you bullied people into submission back in middle school doesn't mean you can continue here in high school. Next time I see you doing this again, I'll aim for your face."

I spun around also glared at the shaking bully victim. "And you. Learn to stand up for yourself."

I sighed and walked off. The crowd made way for me and I strolled to the main gates. Great; it was only the second week of school and I already made a ruckus. Mom specifically told me not to standout, too.

I walked through the main gates past the jock group. One of their gazes lingered on me the longest. His name was Hikaru Ryuichi; he was in my class. I ignored him and made my way to the shooting club.

I shot another target in the dead middle.

"You always aim for the head... and you never miss," my instructor mumbled, then laughed. "That's kinda scary! But hey, you're our golden shooter!"

"If you find out that your father was a mobster or something, I wouldn't be surprised," one of my club mates said and giggled.

When I got home, mom wasn't there yet. It was 7 PM. I whipped up a quick meal. Then, I opened the door to my mom's room.

Ever since a year ago, I came to the conclusion that mom was never going to tell me details about dad. I wasn't having that. I had the right to know. It didn't matter who he was or what he did.

Whenever my mom said that I was a spitting image of my dad and was similar to him in every way except that I could cook, I got a little worried. I was a gifted fighter and shooter. What did that make my dad?

I easily picked the lock of the last cabinet that I hadn't already checked. I found nothing but documents. Same old same old. I almost gave up rummaging until I came across a very, very old-looking folder.

The first few pages were nothing special, but somewhere down the middle, I saw "Hotel Tres Spades" in bold font. I read for a minute. It seems that my mom used to work at this hotel as a maid. But that was all it detailed. The next page was a doodle.

I shifted the paper in several angles until I could finally read the font: Soryu Oh.

My eyes widened. I hit the jackpot! I finally found a name!

Just then, I heard footsteps outside. I quickly shoved the folder back to where it was and closed the cabinet, then locked it again. I speedily but quietly closed the door behind me. Just as I got in my own room, the front door opened and mom stepped in.

"Yui~! Guess what I got!"

I pretended to have just finished studying and peeked out of my room. "What is it?"

She held up an entire grocery bag of snacks. I chuckled. "Okay. You've got my attention."

The next day at school, I shut myself in the washroom and looked up my dad's name on my phone. Any person who showed up either didn't resemble me at all or was only 6 years old. This confirmed that my dad wasn't an athlete or a professional fighter.

I briefly recalled what my clubmate said. "If you find out that your father was a mobster or something, I wouldn't be surprised."

I thought of my mom's fragile and clumsy self and scoffed. "No way. She'd never be able to handle someone from the mafia."

Either way, now I needed more info than just a name.

I dashed home right after school and without wasting a minute, went into mom's room again.

I found a box full of old clothes on the top of the closet that I hadn't noticed before. The clothes were nothing special. It looked like what she wore back when she was in her twenties. I briefly debated whether or not to rummage through something so personal.

Screw it. I can't afford to miss a single detail.

I went through the clothes one by one. I had plenty of time. I was sure mom would never be sneaky enough to slip something in one of her clothes, but I liked to be careful.

Tucked in the sleeve of a winter coat was an old phone. I flipped it open. There was still a little bit of battery, which means it was recently used. The contacts were empty. I then clicked on the photo album. There was one single photo in there. I almost stopped breathing.

Holy crap! My dad was this handsome?!

He had the same sapphire black hair and midnight blue eyes like I did. I could tell I had his nose and jawline, too. They both looked so peaceful in this winter photo. Their hands were tightly locked and mom gazed at him with a dreamy look in her eyes.

There was nothing on this phone but this one photo. It could only mean one thing.

I took a picture of the screen with my phone, then printed it out. It was my only guideline. I erased all evidence of me ever finding mom's old phone and tucked it away just as I found it. I even put the box in the exact place where there wasn't any dust on top of the closet.

I cut out the photo and tucked it into my phone case. Maybe I could check out that hotel sometime. I was determined to find my father.

Fast forward to midterms. I strolled right past the scoreboard toward my club room without a glance.

"Yo!" I was stopped in my tracks by a voice and a hand on my shoulder. I turned my head back. It was Hikaru Ryuichi again.

"You got first in the whole grade. I didn't know you were that smart." He grinned at me. I gave him a blank face. "Do you wanna go out sometime?"

"No."

"Please? It'll be fun!"

"No."

"I can take you to the arcade. There are lots of shooting games there."

"I can shoot a real gun."

While he tried to think up of another excuse, I spared a glance at the scoreboard. I saw his name at the bottom half of the rankings. I looked back up at him. "Do you want me to tutor you or something?"

His eyes sparkled. "Yes!"

"I refuse."

He sulked. "I see. But you sure you don't want to hang out sometime?"

"I'm sure," I replied bluntly.

He eventually left me alone. I thought nothing of that exchange.

Rina crossed her arms and sent me a nasty smirk. Beside her, a tall boy stood with the same expression. I sighed. I already knew what she was going to say.

"You may have publically humiliated me last year, but this time, my brother is here to defend me!" She stated.

Why does she insist on calling people out in the middle of campus? I'm trying to get to the shooting club, here. A tournament was coming up, too.

"It's my birthday today. Can we do this tomorrow?" I asked, deadpanned, which only seemed to anger her more.

I cursed in my head as her brother charged at me. His stance was full of openings. Whatever. This will only take about twenty seconds.

Eighteen seconds later, he was on the ground, nearly unconscious. I dusted my hands. "This is pretty good. I took a little less time than I expected."

Rina was already nowhere to be seen. I stepped over the body on the ground toward my club room.

In the crowd of onlookers, one of their gazes lingered on me for the longest again. This time, I spared him a glance. Hikaru Ryuichi. What is it about me that fascinates you so much?

"Happy sixteenth birthday!" Mom shouted as soon as I got home. She was early today. It also happened to be a Friday.

"Thanks." I glanced at the mango mousse cake on the dining table. She finally got something I could stomach this year.

"The only thing that you're not like your dad is probably that you hate sweets." Mom chuckled. "His favorite food was eggs. Could you believe he never even had an omelet before I made it for him? The guy couldn't cook for his life."

"Oh, wow," I responded half-heartedly. The hearts in her eyes were so obvious.

After eating, she secretively got out a bag from her room. I didn't expect much until I peeked into the bag.

Is this... a real gun?!

"Where'd you get this?" I ask, shocked.

"Your dad gave it to me about half a year before I had you," mom said sadly. "I think I can trust you with this."

"Mom. I'm sixteen. I'm a teenager. Are you sure you're making the legal choice?"

She put a finger on her lips. "Just don't tell anyone, kay?"

I briefly wondered where she kept this hidden since I once rummaged through her entire room.

"...Was dad a police officer or something?" I asked. "Why'd he have guns in his possession?"

Panic briefly crossed her features. "Um, well. Not really. Don't worry about it, yeah? Ahahaha...."

"Don't tell me he's from the mafia."

Unlike mine, my mother's face was practically an open book. As much as she tried to hide it, her reaction was enough of an answer.

"...Huh," I hummed. "I never thought someone like you would fall for such a dangerous character."

"He's actually really sweet once you get to know him," she defended.

"And you met him through an auction?" I asked with disbelief written all over my face.

"...It's true," she mumbled.

I said nothing more. I wasn't going to believe anything until I see for myself.

It was mid-afternoon. I walked down a secluded street. I held a plastic bag of a few loaves of bread since we were short on them.

"Hey, you there. Are you Yui Oh?"

I glanced back. Four men stood. I quickly surveyed their attire. Three of them had an irregular outline at the side of their shirt. It could be a weapon. I met their eyes. They didn't seem like good news.

"I asked you a question, girl." He growled menacingly.

I didn't bother to waste time. I dropped the bread on the ground and sprinted off.

They yelled from behind, telling me to "get back here" as if that'd help their case.

I wasn't conceited enough to ignore the fact that they were dangerous people that I shouldn't mess with. School bullies were different from street delinquents. If I continued down this quiet path, it wouldn't be pretty.

At the first sight of a branch alley, I remembered that it led to a major shopping street with plenty of people. I took my chances and took a sharp turn into the alley.

"Who are you people and what do you want with me?!" I yelled as they persistently followed me into the alleyways.

"Damn, this girl's fast!" one of them shouted, ignoring my question.

"Keep this up! If we catch this girl, we might be able to threaten the Ice Dragons! Then we can claim our reward!" Another yelled.

What is this Ice Dragons thing?

"I don't know what you're talking about! Leave me alone!" I shouted.

"Then why are you running?!" One of them yelled.

"Cuz I'm not stupid!" I hollered back.

Damn! It's a like a maze in here! I sprinted through the alleys that seemed longer than usual. Had I not been training my stamina since age 10, I would've long collapsed in exhaustion. I've been sprinting full speed for nearly ten minutes.

"Don't shoot! We need her alive!" Words by the people chasing me only prompted me to run faster.

As I turned one more corner, the street view of busy shoppers became clear. Within two seconds, I dashed out into the street, panting heavily. People around shot me concerned glances. I looked back at the alley I just ran out of. The four men were gone.

What the heck was that?

They knew who I was. By the way they mentioned some Ice Dragons crap, they probably know my father. If I was targeted, what about mom? Unlike me, she doesn't have a single athletic bone in her body.

By the desperate tone in their voice, they didn't sound like they knew of mom's existence.

I was putting my mom in danger.

"Hikaru, right?" I asked. "I need to ask you something."

He looked at me with pure shock on his face. "Really? Me?"

"Yes. What do you play?"

"...Football?"

"Are you good?"

"Best one on the team," he replied right away, sounding proud.

"Are you still willing to have me teach you subjects?"

"For sure. Why?"

I was glad that he didn't mind my straightforwardness.

That was how I established a deal with Hikaru Ryuichi. That was why I left home. I needed money to survive on my own, and I figured that I could search for my father along the way.

And give him a piece of my mind for giving me such trouble in life.

:3

Damn, these rapid updates be reminding me of my first few weeks of wattpad

I'll see if I can whip up something for Kyoko, too~

Then, per @Otome4life's suggestion, maybe I could write something where all of the daughters are together xD since they've only ever been in separate stories. Let's just pretend then that their mothers are different people lmao
