Mamoru-five

Kyoko's PoV

"Nothing at all?" Takumori repeated with a slight frown.

I shook my head in confirmation, Jayden did the same.

"Then what took you so long at the back of the VIP floor?" Yoshiro questions. He better not mess this answer up.

"The party room leads to a hallway, which I think are guest rooms. I took some time there, but I found nothing." He says, his tone so natural I almost believed it.

"...Alright, then. Case closed." Takumori says after a minute, "Let's go back."

It was well into the afternoon as we drove back, with Jayden and me in the back seats.

I pretended I was on my phone when I was only texting Jayden. After a long time of thinking, he finally betrayed his conscience and agreed to my proposal. I'm positive I can find this girl he's looking for with not too much problem, but I need to take my sweet time until I can fully trust that he won't spill the secret. Since I'm obviously asking for more in this deal.

Though it might not seem so to him. He seems rather serious about this girl whom he doesn't even know the name of.

'Good act, keep it up and I'll repay you just as we agreed.' I sent to him. On our way out from the auction hall, we exchanged numbers for convenience reasons.

The text marked as read. I glanced at him, he was looking out the window distantly, having no intention of replying to that text.

'Delete them after you read the messages.' I sent again. Jeez, doesn't he know to destroy all evidence?

Kisaki and Baba blind folded me when they took me out of the auction hall, but I heard everything, and I remember the extremely long elevator ride. When the elevator arrived, I walked by the walls while holding onto it. I looked like I was just trying to gain my balance because I can't see, but I only felt glass surfaces under my fingers, and since such a secret room can't be made of transparent glass, it has to be a room of mirrors. When we got out of the room, I bumped into a counter, and felt a few glasses. It had to be a bar, and quite a small one too.

In conclusion, it wasn't all that hard to retrace my steps back to the auction hall.

I leaned onto the balcony railing and scanned the entire place. What the cops wouldn't give to find this.

As a detective, why would... dad cover for this? Why didn't mom report this place before she...ick, fell in love?

It's because of this superficial thing people call 'love' what made her cover for these wrong doings, isn't it? That's why she's caught up in every mess this auction has. And why now I ruined my life to cover for them.

Startled, I stuck myself to the wall when the elevator made a small ding as it arrived.

What's this wimpy kid doing here? I deadpanned when he showed the excitement of a child discovering candy land as he took in his surroundings.

He raised his camera. Just when he started to focus the lens, I covered it with my palm and forced him to it down.

Of course, like any normal person, his reaction to my own illegal actions was anger; but soon I got him to understand my side. It was rather easy, maybe he has someone whom he'd do anything for as well.

I snapped out of my thoughts when the car parked at the Academy's parking lot.

"We just need to take evening attendance, then we can go back to our dorms." Takumori says as he gets out of the car.

I plopped down on my bed after all the work was done. I have my private dorm. Not because I paid extra money, but because I had more than one way to make my dorm mates move out on their own.

I pressed a couple of buttons and set a different ring tone for a text from Jayden, in case he has some serious shiz problem and ask about things. I set it up as it won't show on home screen, and then changed my password since Takumori and Yoshiro knows it.

I then tossed the device on the bed sheets beside me. Should I go wash my hair...?

Just as I thought I was too lazy to do that, the special tone rang.

Jayden's PoV

The auction might not be as bad as it looks like. After all, by how Yoshiro talks about her, Kyoko's a rather righteous person. If the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, her parents can't be bad people. She might have an actual reason for doing this.

Convincing myself, that was what I was thinking when I agreed to the deal.

"Hello, dorm mates!" I said as I opened the door to see Takumori and Yoshiro, who were shocked to the spot. I just picked up my form and key to my dorm room, and by pure coincidence, it's the same room as them two.

I settle my stuff down and prepared my bed, which is on the top bunk of Yoshiro; and the bunk bed across from us is Takumori, on the bottom bunk.

After I did all that, I laid down on my bunk and slipped out my cellphone. A few Facebook messages were left from friends back in America, and a message from mom and my sister.

Then, I saw the text from Kyoko earlier, to tell me to delete messages after I read them. She is taking this seriously, isn't she? I did as told, then I sent her a message.

'So how's this all going down?'

Two minutes later, she replied.

'You're like a second Yoshiro, only more annoying.

After training tomorrow, meet me at the back of the building at 5pm.'

'Alright ^_^ see ya'

I put down my phone until it chimed again.

'You will definitely forget, so delete this conversation now.'

"Hah." I laughed once before hitting 'delete'.

"If you're really set on finding that true love of yours," Yoshiro grabbed the side railing of my bunk and stood on his bunk to talk, "you should get Kyo to help, she's best at finding people."

"Oh really?" She better be.

"But well, she has to get something back for helping you."

You don't say.

"Though most of the times she just wants food." Yoshiro says, "If you treat her to lunch or something, she'd probably help. After all, she's easy to bribe."

"Thanks for tip, bro." I said. Yeah, but this time, it's more like she's bribing me.

"Though, if that girl really felt the same way, wouldn't she leave at least some kind of clue behind?" Takumori spoke up all of a sudden, "What if... she's just trying to avoid you?"

I always thought Taku was quiet starting when I first met him, but this is a depressing side of him.

"I thought about all that, that's why it took me six months to come here." I laid back on my mattress, "But then, if she actually had an unstoppable reason to leave, I'm not missing that chance, right? I have to try, for her. It's really hard to find someone you like who may like you back. So then even if she really is trying to run, at least I could say that I tried instead of I gave up."

For a long time, nobody responded.

All of a sudden, Yoshiro smacked his hand onto my forehead, "Huh, you're unexpectedly deep. Looks deceive, don't they?"

~~

"...Excuse me?"

"You heard right. Run ten laps as warm up while others run five." Director Sakai repeated.

For some reason, he has been doubling Kyoko's training the entire time. While the rest of us did 20 push-ups, she was requested to do 40. When we needed to do 40 sit-ups, she nearly died doing 80.

The next morning after I kept quiet about the black market auctions, we started doing physical training in the afternoon alongside academics in the morning.

Kyoko had on the blankest face ever that clearly read 'I hate you' as she stared at the director for a whole minute being starting to run her laps.

Probably driven by anger, she dashed past all of us and lapped us over and over again. So in the end, she finished the same time as we all did.

"What's up with him?" Yoshiro huffed, "does he bare some kind of grudge against Kyoko?"

Of course everyone had different opinions, but no one dared to go ask.

I... didn't really care....

Kyoko's PoV

"You alright, Kyo? You look pale." Yoshiro asked as he grabbed my shoulders. I pushed his hands off. My mind felt a bit hazy from the intense double time training I did today, but there's still something I need to do.

I went back to my dorm room, and opened my laptop. I searched on public records of any female students in this Academy. In the end, I only found four other than me.

One of them was blonde, third-year, it can't be her.

One was a brunette, fourth-year, can't be her.

Two others had dyed blue and dyed dark green hair, third-year, still can't be them.

Unless the girl Jayden's looking for changed her appearance. Or, she really doesn't attend this school.

Nevertheless, I printed out the pictures and basic information of those girls and stapled the papers together. He at least needs to see their faces and everything.

At 4:55pm, I head out to the back of the building, where I told him to meet me.

I checked my watch again, it was ten after five, and I'm still standing here alone. Alright, maybe he got lost, maybe he's caught up in something.

I reviewed the profiles to kill time. When I checked again, it was twenty after five.

Patience, is the most—oh to hell with that I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS.

I snatched out my phone and texted him in all caps.

'WHERE TF R U UR WASTING MY PRECIOUS SLEEPING TIME'

It has been a bad enough day already, why is he only making it worse?

Three minutes after that, he came sprinting. He put an arm against the wall to catch his breath as he stopped in front of me. I looked down on him.

"Y-You're actually here. I...I thought you..." He says in the midst of panting.

"I see that I've made a mistake thinking you're a decent person." I stuffed the papers in his hand, "remember to delete my text."

Well, he was going to stand me up if I hadn't texted him. Just great.

I clicked my tongue in mild irritation as I headed back to the dorm. And as soon as I do, I crash into sleep.

Jayden's PoV

For sure, I thought she wasn't going to go meet up since it's been such a bad day for her, and she hasn't given any confirmation about the time.

She'd probably just crash into bed and forget all about it. I thought automatically.

It was machinery thinking for me now, since I've been stood up on my entire life.

When I was smaller, my step-dad promised to go see my baseball game. But then, he said he had 'last minute meetings' with his friends, so he went out drinking instead. I soon found out that he just went to my sister's ballet tournament. I can't say I blame him, of course he's going to treasure his own child more than a step-son like me.

As I was having random flashbacks, my phone chimed.

A text from Kyoko?

'WHERE TF R U UR WASTING MY PRECIOUS SLEEPING TIME'

Wait... she actually went?!

It was a well 20 minutes past our arranged meeting time. I ran down as soon as I could.

I always felt horrible when someone stood up on me... I can't believe I just did it...!

"Kyoko—" I didn't even get to say anything before she shoved some papers into my hands.

"Remember to delete my text." She says as an instruction before she left.

After I could stand up straight again, I looked over the papers she gave me.

She printed out high-quality portraits of two angles, and their basic information....

What have I done....
