Epilogue - Kyoko
The above media is when she's around 12 (when she actually listened to her mom LOL) she went to this kid photography thing that makes u pose in costumes and they think it's cute but it really isn't thing.
Jayden's PoV
I anxiously rocked on my heels while the government worker in front of me stamped on my passport and did whatever the heck else she was supposed to do.
The noisy environment of the airport made me glance around, hoping for time to go by faster.
It's my first summer back in Japan, and first time seeing Kyoko in person again since I first went back to America for College.
I told her I'd be arriving today, I just can't wait another minute to see her. I hurried past the security check right after retrieving my passport and then waited for my luggage to spin out. I had to cancel my sim card in Japan, which means I have no way to contact her unless via social media.
Frantically scanning the crowd again and again, I spun around several times to get a 360-degree view, but I still don't see that mop of familiar grey hair that I remember so well. I haven't seen her physical appearance in two months, I could only go with what I remembered.
I froze when a petite figure snuggled into my back and slipped her arms around my waist. I was still so familiar with her presence, a smile made its way onto my face without even looking at her.
"You've gotten taller, dammit." As soon as she muttered that through a muffled voice, I turned around and tucked her head under my chin.
"You're still pretty little. Why's that?"
"The reason? It's in my genes." She sighed a little, then forced her chin up to look at me.
A smirk grew on my face as I pulled away and looked in her jeans' pockets, "In your jeans? Where?"
I narrowly dodged a playful slap to my face and a look on her face that clearly showed she wasn't impressed. She huffed when I grinned at her, then looked away and bashfully admitted, "You corny bastard... I missed you."
I leaned down and placed my forehead against hers when I was reminded by her small gesture how contrasting our personalities were. I pecked her on the lips before saying, "Be the tsun to my dere~"
I was scheduled a temporary stay in a VIP room in Tres Spades by Kyoko's dad. I held the front door open for her as we walked into the lobby because that's what I do.
"Here it is, home at last!" I tossed my luggage bag onto the queen sized bed, then plopped down onto it. Kyoko said she went to go change, so I laid there staring up at the ceiling while I lamely waited. I had not made any plans at all since I came back only for Kyoko.
About twenty minutes later, I heard the door open. I sat up a little too quickly, then see her close the door behind her. My jaw almost dropped. She was wearing a knee-high skirt, it was maroon but still.
"First time ever asking anyone this but, how do I look?" She turned to me and put her hands on her waist. I blinked again and again from her hot messy grey hair to the black flats that finished her look.
I could tell she was starting to self-conscious from all my staring so I quickly blurted out my answer, "Amazing. Beautiful. Gorgeous. Totally awesome!"
She smiled in relief and let her arms dangle to her sides, then put them both on my shoulders, "Alright, Jaydie, I shall be your personal tour guide for the next three weeks."
It saddens me when I think that I can only stay for three weeks, but her random nickname didn't go unnoticed.
"What did you just cal--"
She pressed her lips against mine while I was still talking, which shut me up fast. I pulled her closer by the waist when she wrapped her arms around my neck. Although it is hesitant, I miss her touch, something technology nowadays still couldn't grant me.
"So, what do you wanna do first?" She tilted her head and looked me in the eye, nearly killing me on the spot.
I was about to say 'you' when I realized quickly that she probably wouldn't take it as a joke. I thought for a second, she grew worried from the look on my face.
"Let's go dig a hole in the park and name it 'Love'." I suggested.
She looked at me like I was crazy, "What do you mean? Why?"
I braced myself for a possible beating as I explained, "So we could watch people fall in love~!"
She threw a pillow at my face.
"I'm sorry! I'm just kidding!"
Kyoko's PoV
At first, I was a little worried that it might get somehow awkward between us since we really haven't seen each other in such a long time. But it was proven that my worrying was futile as soon as he started making his lame jokes again.
He told me a wordplay on video chat once, I laughed, and now he's hooked.
"Let's go cliche and watch a movie, then perhaps have some dinner at a local restaurant." He says while rolling over the bed and purposely falling onto the carpeted ground.
"Sounds great." I smile when I think about our first date in five months and had to literally bite down on the inside of my mouth to suppress it.
He stuffed the key card in his back pocket, then held open the door. He always did that, and I loved it.
As we walked down the hallway, he--as if suddenly remembering--held out his hand to me. I took it without a thought before I realized we were walking hand-in-hand now. I shifted my palm and laced my fingers through his, then let my hair curtain my face. He squeezed my hand slightly.
"Which one?" I asked both to myself and to Jayden as we stood in front of the billboard showcasing what was currently on.
"How about The Purge: Election Year?" He pointed out to the poster with a creepily grinning man with a gun in hand that had the American flag printed on it.
I turned my face to him with disinterest written all over it, "Horror movie? Are you suggesting that I come running into your arms and bury my face into your chest for comfort?"
He looked at me slowly with a growing cheeky grin, "Uh...how'd you know that?"
"Sorry to disappoint but I love gore and horror, you'll probably be the one screaming and running my arms." I stated, but he doesn't stop smiling as he slyly replies, "I think that works, too."
"Ugh." Frustrated that I couldn't find any comebacks, I went ahead to purchase those tickets, but I knew he was following right behind me.
~~~
"That was... indeed disturbing." He commented as soon as we got out of the theater area. I stuffed my hands into my skirt pockets and strode along as he followed with a visible frown on his face. He kept a straight face during the movie, but I guess he wasn't as tough as he made himself out to be.
I was about to poke fun at him when I noticed the weather from the glass doors. Just great, like any chick flicks that I hated, it was pouring outside. It was perfectly sunny just three hours ago so none of us thought of bringing an umbrella.
The cinema only sells popcorn, slushies, and snacks, but I'm getting hungry for an actual meal. What choice do I have? If this continues, we'll just have to watch another movie.
"You're hungry, aren't you? I am, too." He said before I suggested staying. Either he knew me too well, or he had great luck.
"The restaurant I know is only about two blocks away, but I doubt--"
"Have you ever ran in the rain before?"
"No, and I don't intend on it." I reply, when I noticed that he wasn't gonna take no for an answer, it was too late.
"YOLO!!!" He yelled as he grabbed my wrist and sprinted out into the rain.
"H-Hey!" He left no room for me to protest while we dashed down the street, making all the heads turn to us when we passed by. I tried desperately to shield my eyes with my other hand to no avail.
"Let me take a break!" I said. Since I was wearing flats and a hugging top, I soon ran out of breath. He surveyed our surroundings before spotting a phone booth.
I placed a hand on my chest as I tried my best to breathe properly. I am so going to get sick if I run in the rain. The cold fabric against my skin and wind blowing onto that isn't gonna be a good combination, but at the same time, it felt pretty fun.
I didn't realize I was leaning against his chest until he put an arm around my shoulders to support my weight. I tried to back up a little due to the too-close proximity, but my heel hit something. I turn my head slightly to find our current location very cramped, none of us could literally back away one step without pressing against the glass, which will be a bad idea since it's already cold enough.
We're slightly damp, but not to the point of soaked yet.
Compared to the coldness seeping from the damp clothing, he was radiating warmth that made me blush. I watched his chest inflate up and down as he breathed. Our hands were still connected and my other arm rested on his shoulder. Is it just me or had he been working out?
The glass surrounding us was starting to fog up due to the temperature different from the outside and inside.
"I think it's just drizzling now, we can make a run for it." I said, purely because my heart was racing and I'm afraid it'll become too obvious.
"I dunno, I kinda like our current situation."
When I turned my head up, his face was right in front of mine. He stole a rather long kiss before I could figure out what he was doing. The completely fogged glass made it impossible for anyone outside to see. We were in the middle of a street full of people, yet we were actually alone.
I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and his slid around my waist, both of us refusing to let go of each other. We had to make sure we didn't smudge the glass in this tiny space, or else it'll wipe away the fog and we'll be seen making out in the middle of a street in a small phone booth.
This secretive feeling was new to me, and adrenaline ran down my spine because of it.
Whenever I ran out of breath, we would part to breathe and took that second to look each other in the eyes, but not for long, we parted only to come back together seconds later with newfound passion again and again.
I was snapped out of my trance when he knocked down the phone from its holder, generating a loud noise of it hitting against the glass.
"Dang it." He muttered under his breath as he put the phone back in its place, but the mood was already gone. I pinched his cheek when he pouted like a kicked puppy.
"We're gonna have to leave eventually." I reasoned.
"Do we?" He responded with a question. I raised an eyebrow at him, "Of course, you don't suppose we'd stay in here all night, do you?"
"Sounds good to me." His voice was raspy in the most attractive way possible that I couldn't find it in myself to push him away when he tried to lean in again.
"Hold on." My voice didn't betray me and I glanced around, the fog was fading. I started to see umbrellas being closed from the people, which meant that the rain has subsided and they can also see us if we could see them.
I slid open the door and held an arm out, "Oh great, the rain stopped, we can go get food now."
I tried not to giggle out loud at his sulking expression as we continued the walk while swinging our tightly clasped hands back and forth.
~~
I spent the next three days in his room playing games while he got over his jet lag. We toured the Tokyo Tower and he helped me with my English summer vacation homework. We even took a week to travel to Osaka and visited Kyoto temples. Not to mention the three-day-long hot spring trip we took to Hakone. Then the next two days chilling in local cafes and shopping districts. Adding on, these sixteen days passed by like a breeze.
"I can't believe there's already less than a week left." I mumble to myself while I laid upside-down on the bed in his hotel room. It certainly has been a fantastic two weeks, but it's honestly all passing by way too fast.
He grabbed my hand and pulled me back up before I could kiss the floor.
"Now, now, don't cheat on me with carpet-san." He pulled me into his arms and I smiled at his humor.
"...I know long-distance doesn't sound like the most promising thing in the world, but I'll definitely come back for you, mark my words." I almost cried when he repeated the exact same words he said to me the first time he had to leave. And he fulfilled his promise, he did come back to visit.
"Don't be afraid to say goodbye, because I'll always have another hello for you. Don't ever doubt that." He whispered in my ear and two streams of tears finally fell from my eyes; he remembered what I said back at the airport so many months ago.
"I won't. I'll never doubt you; I never did." I respond, he wiped my cheeks with his thumbs, almost caressing. I broke into a small smile, "Besides, even if you can't make it, I'll travel over there to you."
He brought my head to his collar and pressed his lips to the top of my head, then said in a low voice, "Kyoko, I love you."
I scoffed a little, taken by surprise, then closed my eyes and turned them against his shoulder, "Love ya, too."
I felt him lay me down alongside him, then shuffled around. I opened my eyes to peek a little and saw that he switched off the lamp and pulled the covers over us. His eyes glittered even in the darkness as they stared into the depths of my own eyes.
"Stay with me for these last few days, yeah?" He held up the covers in between us, gesturing for me to move over, I obliged.
"Mm-hmm." I hummed in agreement while I put my head on top of his arm and his other one wrapped itself around my waist, pulling me even closer to him.
A few minutes later, I opened my eyes again. When I lifted my head upwards, I met his gaze. We smiled when we realized that we were thinking the same thing. I put a hand on his cheek and stretched up to land a kiss on his lips.
"Good night, Jayden."
"...Good night, Kyoko." He tucked my head under his chin again, I felt the study rise and fall of his chest as his breathing evened out. I soon felt drowsy myself and began to slip to sleep.
"...Love you."
