The car ride felt like an infinity, but it wasn't awkward nor was it something of fear or regret. It was instead, full of anticipation to know where we were headed. A road with no clear destination but also an obvious destination all at once.
Something pulls at me, tells me that this is where we should stop. That this will be where we will find answers to what we're both looking for.
"Let's stop here." She says almost as if she had read my mind, pointing at the small empty park. I park the car and step out to open her door, she chuckles and thanks me before heading down to the swings.
"Why here?" I ask a little confused as to why I even wanted to see her anymore and more confused as to why we stopped at a park.
"Instinct?" June chuckles, her breathe visible in the cold night air. "So.." A light breeze hits and strands of her hair land upon her face before she lifts her hand to move them away.
"So." I reply causing the both of us to look at each other and burst into a nervous fit of awkward laughther. Before I know it she's swinging, slow and low at first then higher and faster. The wind causing her hair to fly back as she went up and when she came down, pushing her hair forward in her face. She looks over at me and starts slowing down. A smile is painted across her face and the way the light shines on her, she looks radiant, beautiful, more so than when I first laid eyes on her.
"Let's go be kids again." She giggles, running off the swings and onto the slides. I run to catch up to her, telling myself to let go and be a kid again. I tell myself it feels right, because it is. For hours we play as children, sliding down slides, climbing the mini rock climbing wall, racing, and laughing our heads off and I don't think anymore. I'm happy.
"You hungry?" I ask trying to catch my breath and trying not to laugh at how red and out of breath she looks. She notices and punches my arm, chuckling before heading to the car.
"Starving!" she shouts over her shoulder. We get in the car and head out to eat some late night pizza. "Whoa, it's two in the morning!" She laughs. I love the sound of her laugh, it's adorable. It wasn't too long a ride and we got our pizza pretty fast, probably since we were the only ones there. Sitting, I ask her about her family and she asks me about mine. How our childhoods were pretty shitty and that she only had her brother for whom she cared for and I only had my friends. How when she was little she took care of everyone and it's still something she does.
The night goes on and finally we head home. The night ending faster than we had anticipated. I drop her off, thanking her and laughing again. Making sure she walks in safely before I head back home, my mind filled with more questions then before.
I thought there were gonna be answers. I really needed some answers.
As more questions fill my head, I make it home and sneak back to my bedroom falling face down on my bed.
You're sitting there, you're legs on mine as you lean against my body. I pull you closer, wanting and needing to hold you, even more confused now. Relaxing at the feeling of your soft touch.
"I'm confused.. Why can't you just tell me anything? What do I do? Who are you? Please?"
Your shoulders hunch over and you avoid my eyes, shaking your head softly.
"Ahh.. Of course not.. That would be too easy." I sigh.
My eyes flutter open, my heart weighing me down. If I could just know who she is. If I could just take one look at her face...
"Hey, Yoongs? You up?" Jin shouts from my door. "You gotta go soon."
"Dude, I need to borrow your truck." His eyes are fierce once I open the door to face him, but he tries to contain it by giving me a questioning look. "Don't worry, I just promised June that I would help her get her furniture from the store." Sighing, he hands over the keys and warns me about speeding, scratching, watching the road, and my death if the truck is not brought back in the condition in which he lent it to me.
June sits on the steps to enter the school, as I pull up and reach over to open the door for her.
"You ready?" A mischievous smile tugs at my lips and her eyes light up as if that was where all the stars hid throughout the day. Nodding, she hops in the car and we head out of school grounds.
The furniture was nice at the store, but placed in the house it looks even better. Everything matches with the walls in the house and it just feels so aesthetic and extremely satisfying.
"Thank you, Yoongi." I smile and watch as she pats the empty spot beside her on the couch. "Wanna watch a movie?" Nodding, I take the seat beside her and dig around in my bookbag pulling out a family size bag of Doritos. She laughs loudly and tears even escape her eyes as she tries to calm herself down. "Oh my god! Why?" She manages between breaths.
"I get hungry, okay? Don't be judging me!"
"Yeah, okay. Pass the bag, dude!" Her hand reaching out like a little kid begging to get ahold of something. "Now, how do you feel about Silent Hill?" Her eyes sparkle and she smirks awaiting my reaction.
"Hell yes." I say, getting comfortable on the couch and placing the Doritos between us. She presses play and we sit there, anticipation, fear, excitement overcoming us as the movie begins.
