Chapter Seven: An Unplanned 'Sleepover'
That night, Doc sat in front of the T.V, but he wasn't paying attention to what was on. Instead, he was fiddling with his fingers while a deep red stayed fixated on his cheeks.
He couldn't stop thinking about... earlier.
Doc wasn't going to lie to himself, he knew if he could he'd be with Angel right now, hero form or not. But he couldn't help but wonder if the villain also wanted to establish a relationship between them. And if so, how well would that work out?
Suddenly his phone rang and he jumped. Once he checked who was calling him he answered.
"Xisuma, is everything okay?" he asked, turning off the television.
"I really need your help."
"Are you talking about this project that Warlock and Angel are after?"
"Yes," he firmly answered. Feeling more alert, the hybrid stood up, already heading for his costume. "After hearing about the energy core Angel took today, I know all they're missing are the blueprints, and it's only a matter of time until they find them. I no longer trust the safety of my new vault."
He had set down his phone for a second to pull out the costume, but he quickly picked it back up to shoot a careful question. "X what exactly would I be looking for? What's this project that Angel and Warlock are so wrapped up about?"
On the other side of the call, he could make out the creaking of Xisuma's chair - as he was most likely leaning back - and let out a small breath. "It was supposed to help boost immune systems and give people stronger cells to fight rare and deadly diseases," he began to explain. "I was working closely with a certain scientist on this project, as it was mainly his dream. I just wanted to help him but- listen, Dynamight. If I'm correct, Warlock and Angel are going to use this machine to boost their immunity and make them invincible against their weakness. And if they manage to figure out how, I'm positive they'll be able to boost their powers as well. Please don't let that happen."
Doc was already out the door, a small drawstring bag on his back and coat covering his costume. "Don't worry, I'll find your plans and keep them safe," he promised.
"No. I want you to destroy them. There's no saving this project," Xisuma firmly decided.
-
After hiding the bag with his civilian clothes, he hurried to the given location as fast as possible.
Once the hero arrived at the facility, he followed the instructions and headed straight for the basement. However, upon approaching the door to the safe room, he found the door cracked ajar. And when he opened, he found the knocked-out guards slumped up against the wall next to the door.
And across the room stood Warlock, pulling a rolled-up blueprint out of a shelf with Angel floating next to his shoulder. The two snapped their heads towards Dynamight.
"You're not getting out of here with that," he threatened. Warlock whispered something to his sidekick while keeping his eyes on the hooded hero. He watched as a grin formed on the tan villain's face while his feet touched the ground.
Pulling the dagger out from behind his back, Angel twirled the weapon in his hand before throwing it at him. Dynamight stepped to the side and watched it fly past his face and sink into the wall outside the door. He glanced back over to make a sarcastic remark regarding his aim, but immediately a crystal was smashed at his feet.
Yellow mist swirled around him and he tried to fan it away. But by the time it disappeared the effects were already in place. His whole body was hit with a tidal wave of exhaustion and his eyelids grew heavy. He blinked, trying to resist the pull of sleep. The hero stumbled, watching in a haze as the villain in white walked over to him. He tried to push him away but felt his body slump against his. He's warm, he fondly thought, lazily burying his face in his shoulder. Feeling ironically safe in his enemy's arms he allowed sleep to overtake him.
-
Once Dynamight had stopped weakly clawing at his cape, Angel glanced back over at his boss.
"It worked," he said with a grin. Ignoring how fast his heart was racing, he created a bubble around the hero and motioned it into the air.
Walking up to him, Warlock lightly played with his hair. "Good job with the distraction," he complimented. "Now let's bring him back to the base."
-
Bdubs had to admit- the hero looked kinda cute when he was asleep. And sure, maybe his hands were cuffed behind his back and suppressing his abilities. Maybe those cuffs were connected to a small chain bolted to the floor to keep him from standing up. Besides all that, his sleeping face was still cute. At least, what he could see. Warlock had specifically said to not take his mask off, as he just didn't care about Dynamight's identity. "It won't matter who he really is. Either way, I'm taking him down," was what he had said.
The villain was tasked with waiting for him to wake up while Warlock began organizing the materials for the build. So he sat on the floor across from the captive, idly sharpening his new knives.
It didn't take long for the hero to stir, and the moment he was fully awake his head shot up, the hood slipping off. He frantically looked around and tugged at his restraints. Finally, his eyes landed on Angel and he seemed to calm down slightly. He tried to stand up but couldn't even properly place his foot on the ground.
"You done?" Angel teased, continuing to sharpen the dagger.
Dynamight slowly looked around again before settling his gaze on him. "So this is the new base then? Can't wait to blow this one up too."
Smiling, he ignored his question and stowed away his dagger in his back. He glanced over at the door which led to the room Warlock was in and found it was still closed. Standing up he slowly walked closer to Dynamight, who titled his head up. "Bet you really wish you had a sidekick now," he murmured with a grin, his fingers lightly brushing his jaw.
"I swear I'm going to break free and hurt you so bad," he threatened with a small smile. His shoulders tensed up, notifying Angel he was trying to break free from the cuffs.
"Oh please, do go on," he teased, lifting his chin with a finger and giving him a wider grin. He watched with amusement as the hybrid's cheeks flushed.
"Stop," Dynamight huffed.
Leaning down so their faces were inches apart, he raised an eyebrow. "Make me."
When he got no response, he giggled and pulled his hand away from the hero so he could sit down. He pulled out his dagger hidden on his back and twirled it. "So how's your shoulder?" he asked, gesturing towards it with the dagger.
The hero shrugged. "Honestly it doesn't hurt so much anymore. Although," a teasing grin formed on his face. "I'm sure a kiss will make everything better."
Scoffing, the sidekick rolled his eyes. "I bet it would." He heard footsteps from down the hall behind the door and sheathed the dagger. When Warlock entered he stood up and flashed him a wide grin.
"Ah, so he's awake now? Perfect timing." Slyly smiling, the wizard made his way over and stood beside the light brunette, staring down and assessing their prisoner.
Angel's eyes flickered between the two. It was easy to read the anger dripping from the hero. Warlock crouched down and cocked his head and watched as Dynamight flexed against the restraints.
"You like those? Took me a while to get them," he said before laughing as the hero tried to lunge at him. Standing back up he looked over to Bdubs. "Was he this aggressive with you?"
The hybrid brunette glanced over to him as he nodded. "Oh yeah, it was really funny," he grinned.
"I am going to destroy you both," Dynamight threatened.
Warlock cackled. "No, I don't think so. Instead, you're going to stay here until the device is complete and I've officially taken over the city. And then maybe, I'll kill you," he explained before turning to the shorter. "Now why don't we bring him with us so we can keep an eye on him while we work?" After fixing some loose hair on the shorter's head, he gave Dynamight a side-eye before heading back.
"Don't worry, I'll make sure once we've succeeded that you aren't killed," Angel promised as he crouched behind him and unhooked the chain from the loop on the ground.
"How are you okay with this?" the hero quietly asked. "With him just using you like this?" Sighing into a smile, he pressed a small kiss to his temple before encompassing him in a bubble.
"He's not using me, I'm helping him achieve his goal."
"Angel you know that's not true." Bdubs chose to ignore him as he led the bubble towards the door. He had to shrink it to fit it through the doorway, but once they were in the building room he resized it.
Warlock glanced over his shoulder at them then back to the blueprint in his hands. His sidekick joined him and the two began to figure out what they had to do.
"Are you sure it's smart to have him in here? Y'know, watching us build this?" he whispered to his boss.
He shrugged, setting down the plans. "Nah it'll be fine. Plus," he looked over to Dynamight and Angel watched as he narrowed his eyes before turning back to him. Hand on his shoulder he leaned down and whispered in his ear, "I think I've got a little... theory."
