prologue
Despite feeling the warm sun that was Jamaica, the air felt cold. Or perhaps it was the way she felt sad that caused her veins to feel like ice; it was as if warmth escaped her body because it was lost from her mind.
It was why she was in the gift shop of the hotel her family was staying during vacation picking out a sweater. She could hear a man arguing over prices at the counter while her fingers ghosted over the soft fabrics before they stopped on a green one.
She frowned. It was his favorite color, she thought. But he wasn't here. She knew she wouldn't feel so cold like the warmth inside of her died if he was.
"Green isn't your color," she recognized the voice as the one that had been arguing at the counter.
She looked up to find a man with dark, black hair and a goatee. His eyes were a dark brown as they analyzed her with a small, hopeful expression. Although, for what he was hoping for, she didn't know.
She gave him a small, amused smile, "Are you going to argue with me about colors now?"
"Please, those prices were outrageous," he rolled his eyes. "Plus, with those gorgeous blue eyes, you really don't need my judgment anyways to know what the obvious color choice is."
She blushed a bit before she raised her eyebrows, "Are you flirting with me?"
"I mean," he stepped a bit closer to the clothes stand that separated them as he replied a bit nervously. "Would that work?"
She shook her head in amusement as she revealed, "I'm married."
"Too bad," he shrugged before he started to leave. "But I won't forget those eyes, Miss Sapphire."
She smiled fondly at his retreating form. She grabbed the blue sweater and went to the check out counter. Somehow, that was the most pleasant conversation she had in, well, ages.
______
She sat out in the sun on the beach beside her sister. She had on her sweater with a bathing suit underneath. She had her sunglasses on as she kept looking at her phone.
She texted Matthew, her husband, days ago one simple text that should've been easy to respond to. Love you. There was absolutely no response.
"Hey, Earth to Elisa," Michaela called for her attention from the seat beside her.
Michaela was her middle sibling while Ben was older than both of them. She'd always been the baby of the family with both Ben and Mick being protective over her.
"Sorry," Elisa responded.
Michaela reached over and placed her hand on top of hers, "You two will work through this, El. I know it."
Elisa nodded as she responded, "I just wish he was here."
Matthew was always busy with work. Although, the past couple of years had been rough. It was like she wasn't even there.
Elisa sighed, "And what about your love life? You have a very big answer to give when we get back."
Michaela shook her head, "Let's not talk about that. Why don't we just soak up the sun and forget both of our lives back home?"
Elisa chuckled, "Deal."
_____
Their time in Jamaica ended all too soon. They were at the airport and they just went through baggage claim. She was headed towards the bathroom when she bumped into someone familiar in the terminal.
He gained a little smirk, "If I believed in that sort of thing, I'd say this was fate."
"Oh, yes, fate," she responded sarcastically with a small smile on her face. "Because it wants me to fall madly in love with the stranger I just met."
"You said it, not me," he replied before he suggested. "Although, I think fate wants me to know your name."
"My name?" she said hesitantly.
"Yes, Sapphire," he said. "What's your name?"
"Elisa."
"Eagan."
She smiled before she leaned over and kissed his cheek, "May fate decide to have us meet again, Eagan."
She moved past him as Eagan grabbed his cheek. He looked up towards the Heavens as he uttered quietly, "If you're there big man in the sky, please be on my side."
Apparently, it was fate.
______
Elisa said goodbye to her family as she boarded a different flight before them. Since she lived in California, she had a different flight. She hugged her siblings and her parents before she gave the twins, Cal and Olive (her niece and nephew), bear hugs.
She got on her plane that stopped in Atlanta where she had a long layover. While waiting, she texted Matthew. Flight lands in the morning at 7. I figured we could go do something. Make a day of it.
Sorry. Meetings all day.
Elisa sighed as tears stung her eyes. She missed the old them. Matty & Eli. They'd known each other since childhood and once they entered high school, they realized they had feelings for each other. They got married as soon as high school ended and everything was blissful for the two years up until they moved to California five years ago for the work Matthew did in the tech field.
Work seemed to be all he thought about. Sometimes, she wondered if she even crossed his mind anymore. She didn't really think that she did.
_____
Elisa had gotten on her flight, Delta Flight 555, to LAX. She yawned as she heard the pilot say over the speakers that they touched down in Los Angeles. She looked out her window at the runway they were on and noticed dark clouds outside in the sky.
Suddenly, the plane started shaking and the lights went off. It seemed that even sun outside had disappeared as everything was pitch black. It was a few moments like this before the lights returned and the runway was visible again.
She breathed a sigh of relief before she looked around. Her heart sunk in fear as she realized that there was no one else on the plane even though they had just been there moments ago.
"Hello?"
There was absolutely no response. She got up and slowly checked the plane; she didn't even find a pilot. She'd come to find she went missing April 7, 2013 and returned April 21, 2019. It was six years into the future and the day she returned was Easter Sunday.
AN: I absolutely adore Eagan and had to make a fic for him and as you can see Elisa is not an 828er; she's special in her own way and I have my own plot for her. Also this show has a lot of religious themes and I'm definitely leaning into that
