Chapter I
She had bad luck.
It was almost as if she were a black cat. Everytime she kissed someone they disappeared.
Her parents always told her she had the luck of a Ladybug, but much to Marinette's dismay it couldn't be further from the truth.
Not only was she left flat out fucked by her past boyfriends, it would seem like she had the same issue with her friends.
Marinette learned to put such issues behind her, but she had a hard time saying no. All throughout her childhood she was lectured by her close family that she needed to say no when it came to situations she couldnt handle, or people would walk all over her.
Marinette knew they were right, but she hated the look of disappointment on their faces when she did say no. She hated to inflict that on someone else.
Which is why when she found herself in another situation that proved to be a lot, she simply couldn't say no.
"I found him..."
It was all she could hear from Luka's lips. "He was underneath my car, sheltering from the rain. I have a lot going on back home, but can you please take care of him?"
Marinette glanced down, her heart squeezing inside of her chest the moment she could visage the green eyes on the black cat he held.
The feline purred delicately, it's whiskers pushing forward as it nuzzled into the red scarf that it was wrapped in.
Marinette wasn't particularly a cat person, in fact she preferred a smaller animal such as a Guinea Pig or a hamster. Bringing a cat home seemed to be a whole lot more of a responsibility.
Marinette's relationship with Luka was strange. He was one of the men she had kissed and he disappeared for a few months, only coming around later to tell her he would rather be friends.
She knew that a relationship like that would be difficult seeing as though she still had feelings for him, but as Marinette knew, she couldnt for the life of her say no.
Luka never really asked for favors, but she couldn't help but to feel a bit hopeful. Perhaps if she took care of this cat, he'd realise what a caring and loving person she was. It was a longshot but perhaps he'd be willing to give them another chance.
Marinette narrowed her eyes, shivering slightly as a cold breeze blew between her and Luka. She couldn't let the poor thing out in the cold regardless.
"They say black cats are bad luck." Marinette murmured, her eyes moving over towards Luka who simply shrugged off her statement.
"I think the only bad luck here is this poor guy. He doesn't seem to have a warm place to stay. I don't know how long he's been out here but his delicate paws are cold. He must've been having a rough night."
Marinette sighed, her heart sinking as Luka's impartialness seemed a lot more bitter than the winter air. She still had no idea what she did wrong, but she wasn't going to pry and find out.
"Okay..." Marinette murmured, slowly reaching over to take the cat out of his hands gently. She blinked, feeling the cat twist in the scarf and clawing on to her before it rested against her with a soft pur. "Did you at get him food?" She asked, shifting her weight with a grimace. "What do I feed him?"
Luka rocked on to his heels briefly before he shoved his hands into his pockets. The male dug through his pockets, sliding out his wallet and drawing out some cash.
"I didn't get him food, but I can cover the costs for litter and food. It's seriously the least I can do." Luka said, handing her the cash. "I really do appreciate you taking him from me."
Marinette chuckled nervously, a small blush coating her cheeks as she took the money. "S-Sure! It really is not a problem. I think it's really admirable that you took him and brought him to me so that he'd have a warm place to stay..." her voice trailed off. She pressed her lips together wondering if she was going too far.
Everytime she showed the slightest inclination towards Luka he'd always pull away, leaving her completely high and dry.
Luka offered her a dry smile, sliding his hands back into his pockets. The silence between them had become filled with the sounds of wind and passing by cars.
The black cat glanced at Luka and then at Marinette. It's green eyes widened in admiration at the young woman who held him. She smelled nice, she looked nice and despite her reluctance, she seemed like a nice and caring person.
The feline wasn't sure where he was going but he couldn't have been more happier to finally be wrapped up in a scarf and possibly getting something to eat. He had been out on the streets for quite a long time, his paws were delicate and after a long time they had been so sore from walking on the cold wet ground for weeks on end.
When he couldn't take the cold anymore, the cat simply found what he knew would keep him warm. When it started to pour, he'd find shelter. He had went days without eating and even while being held, he could feel his tummy growling for something.
The black cat licked its lips at the thought. Oh how he'd love a nice yummy steak cooked by the best chef in Paris. At least that's what he had at his old home.
He remembered that, it was clear as day. After having his dinner, he'd lay in his room and have a dish of ice cream. He remembered being kept inside most of the day and only leaving his home when he was allowed to. It wasn't very often that he had the ability to sneak across Paris.
The black cat yawned, closing its eyes despite its growling belly. A small pur emitted from its throat as he sifted through his memories of his old home before becoming a stray cat.
After all, his fondest memory off all, was how much he missed being a human.
