nineteen²: the perfect night

JJG

Jeongguk snuggled closer to the body around his arms. He felt little pecks being placed gingerly on his forehead, an inevitable smile forming to his lips. He opened his eyes slowly and tilted his head up, seeing Taehyung smiling at him.

"Morning," Taehyung said lazily. Jeongguk shut his eyes and placed a kiss on his chest.

"Good morning," he replied, wanting to go back to sleep.

"Do you want to get breakfast?" Taehyung asked and Jeongguk shook his head.

"Just wanna be here with you."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah."

"Well, your highnness, your wish my command," Taehyung said and turned to the side, capturing the man in a bone-crushing hug that Jeongguk could only giggle about.

"I know I already said this but I missed you so much, Tae," Jeongguk said suddenly. He heard Taehyung take in a deep breath before he whispered, "I missed you more."

Jeongguk couldn't stop smiling. He didn't know if he was dreaming or he was just actually the happiest man alive. Okay, there was probably someone happier out there, maybe a new father or the lottery winner, but Taehyung surely made him feel that way. He always has, since they were little. As long as Taehyung was by his side, Jeongguk felt unstoppable. On top of the world.

"Tae?" Jeongguk called out, a sudden thought popping up in his head.

"Yeah, baby?" Taehyung said and Jeongguk absolutely melted at the petname.

"When did you realize you liked me?" Jeongguk asked and he honestly didn't know why he didn't ask earlier.

"Hmm. I think it might've been when I saw you again on the first day of high school. I felt this newfound happiness with the thought that my only friend was going to be back in my life. I might've pushed it away for so long because I was scared it might ruin what we had. Then remember that period where you decided to avoid me? God, I couldn't concentrate on anything. All these wishes to be able to laugh with you one more time, talk to you, hold your hand. Then I realized I never even got to kiss you and tell you how much I love you and how much you mean to me and-" Taehyung ran out of breath.

"Woah, there. Calm down," Jeongguk said softly. "I'd kiss you if my breath didn't stink right now."

Taehyung smiled and kissed his forehead again. "Then let's go brush our teeth, hmm? I miss your lips on mine."

"Gosh, remember when you used to be shy?" Jeongguk teased.

"Oh it's all an act. Except with you. I'm more confident. You, my little sunshine, make me love myself better."

"And god have you become cheesy," Jeongguk said and he couldn't help himself this time. He leaned in a pressed their lips together for just a second. When he pulled away, Taehyung leaned back in to get another kiss but Jeongguk laughed and pushed him back. He got out of his grip and the bed.

"Gguk," Taehyung whined, trying to catch his hand.

"Get out of bed, Director Kim," Jeongguk said and walked to his bathroom. Then just a few minutes later, Jeongguk's head peaked out the door.

"Tae," he said with a cheeky smile.

Taehyung propped his hand behind his back. "Can't reach a spot on your back, Secretary Jeon?"

"Maybe."

Taehyung chuckled and nodded slowly. They looked at each other for a few seconds before Taehyung threw the blanket off of him and made his way to Jeongguk as quick as possible.

Taehyung got a surprise lunch invitation with President Lee and Jimin's family. Jeongguk was left at the hotel alone but Taehyung didn't leave without putting up a fight. Jeongguk ended up picking out Taehyung's outfit, helping him dress up, and even push him out the door.

It was a little disappointing seeing it be there last day with an early morning flight, but they would have all the time in world when they get back. Jeongguk took the opportunity to finish refining his proposal and maybe even discuss with his colleagues. Or, in other words, catch up on all the gossip going on back at the office.

He logged onto the group chat and saw hundreds and hundreds of messages all roll up at the same time. He saw more than a few commenting on how jealous they were of Jeongguk and wondering what he could be doing.

Drinking champagne with a side dish of caviar, Jeongguk sent and that instantly got everyone on the chat even though it was late in the evening, asking him about his whereabouts and how American air feels. Jeongguk laughed and began to talk about all the places he saw. After getting all the juicy details in return, everyone called it a night and logged off.

Jeongguk felt refreshed after talking to them, realizing he missed them a lot more then he thought he would. He decided to shoot a text to Hoseok as well, hoping he was awake. Hoseok knew not to call or text during work hours unless it's an emergency as he never knew what situation Jeongguk could be in. Fortunately, he was online and they both got on a video call.

"Hello, how are you?" Jeongguk started with a big smile and Hoseok rolled his eyes.

"Nice, nice, rub it in. I can't believe America has blinded you of your hatred for Taehyung," Hoseok said and Jeongguk laughed.

"No, seriously, are you okay? You're cheeks are probably going to hurt from how wide you're smiling," Hoseok asked, doing that little head tilt he always does.

Jeongguk lifted his shoulders up and pressed his lips together trying to hide the smile. "I got back with Taehyung," Jeongguk blurted out finally.

Hoseok's jaw dropped and his eyes were close to popping out its sockets. "Seriously? You idiots finally talked it out?"

"Yeah..." Jeongguk said and let his shoulders fall. Even his friends knew the solution was so simple.

"Jeongguk, I'm so happy for you!" Hoseok yelled and clapped, probably more excited than Jeongguk himself.

"Really? You don't think it's a bad idea getting back together with an ex?" Jeongguk asked and he knew he chose the wrong person to ask as soon as the words left.

"Have you met me, Jeongguk? And yes, I'm your case, definetely yes. You two are literally meant for each other. Why do you think I've been trying to subtly mention him every chance possible?"

"You weren't subtle."

"No?" Hoseok said and scrunched his nose, shaking his head light and Jeongguk copied his actions. The two friends continued shaking their head until they bursted out in laughter.

"No but I really do wish the best for both of you," Hoseok said once they calmed down.

"Thank you," Jeongguk said. He took a few moments to let it rest before dropping more information. "Taehyung might become the next executive director of Lee's America. I might move back here with him."

"Wow, really? Good for him. Well, do you what you think is right, Gguk," Hoseok said genuinely.

"Do you think it's a good idea?"

"These are question you should be asking Namjoon," Hoseok said and Jeongguk chuckled, remembering the first time he introduced his friends to each other.

"Oh c'mon, you give great advice too."

"Well, honestly, I think you should do it. Do you see yourself? How you're glowing? I haven't seen you this happy in a while. I'll miss you a ton but I want you to be happy, Gguk. If you're happiness lies with Taehyung, follow him. Go after your happy ending, you deserve it."

Jeonnguk's lips formed into a pout and he brought his hands to his chest. "You really are the bestest friend in the world."

"Bestest," Hoseok snorted at the choice of word. "Of course, I am."

They spent the rest of the call talking nonsense and Sooyung eventually joined in. They finally hung up when the couple started to become sleepy and Jeongguk knew they both had work the next day so he let them go with a goodnight. After he hung up, he cracked his knuckles and got to work.

Jeongguk took a break to order some lunch, making use of their all inclusive trip, and got right back to his laptop. A few hours flew by and Jeongguk began to wonder when Taehyung would be coming back. He was hopping to get some cuddle time in their lushed out bed before he returns to his old dingy one.

As if God heard his thought, he heard the beep of the key card and then the doors opening. Jeongguk shut his laptop and jumped out of his seat on the couch. He basically bounced his way to the front door before Taehyung could even fully walk-in.

"Hi, baby," Taehyung greeted him with a pleased smile. He had a large bag in his hand and doing his best to take off his shoes with the other. As soon as he did, he walked over to where Jeongguk was patiently waiting and gave him a peck.

"How was lunch with the Parks?" Jeongguk asked and Taehyung sighed.

"Eventful," he answered shortly and walked in with Taehyung. "Did you have lunch?"

"Mhm, it was a fancy title but it was just fried rice. Was really good," Jeongguk replied,

"Good," Taehyung said and hummed. He set the bag on the counter and turned back to look at his boyfriend. Taehyung reached out and grabbed his waist, pulling him close slowly and Jeongguk instintively threw his arms around his neck.

"Jeongguk," he said his name in his serious tone. "Would you like to go on a date with me?" Taehyung asked and Jeongguk almost laughed at how formal it sounded.

"Right now?"

"Yes, right now."

"Why of course."

"Great, change into these. I hope I got the size right," Taehyung said and grabbed the bag he just set down, wedging it between the two.

"You didn't have to, I brought a set of clothes for every occasion," Jeongguk said and understood what took Taehyung so long.

"Oh c'mon. What's the point in having all this money when I can't spoil you for one day?"

Jeongguk gasped dramatically. "Do you think I'm the type to exploit my boyfriend for his money?"

"I've been made aware by Jimin the correct term for that is a sugar baby?"

"Oh shut up. I swear to god, this better not be a fucking llama suit," Jeongguk said and grabbed the very expensive looking paper bag, He placed another quick kiss on Taehyung's lips and made his way to his room.

Excitedly, Jeongguk took a seat on the bed and opened the bag. He first grabbed the normal black dress pants, feeling the quality fabric for a bit before setting it aside. Then he pulled out the most gorgeous white blouse button-up shirt. He used both his hand to spread it out. It was quite a soft texture. There were a few loose ruffles around the sleeve and down the shirt and along the button line, as well as the collar. The fabric cinched at the wrist and flared out.

He immediately put it on, making sure to be gentle with the material. Once he got it all on, he tucked the top into his pants and looked in the mirror. He couldn't help but admire himself. He knew the locket couldn't be seen, but he felt so beautiful with his entire outfit.

Jeongguk put on a couple rings for a final touch and of course a spritz of his favourite cologne before he left the room. He found Taehyung waiting in a chair typing away on his phone. Jeongguk clasped his hands together and cleared his throat, getting Taehyung's attention.

"My goodness," Taehyung breathed, not being able to even blink as he stared at Jeongguk.

"What do you think?" Jeongguk asked and bit his lip, getting a little flustered.

"Stunning, as always," Taehyung said without missing a beat. He stood up from his seat and walked over to Jeongguk. "This shirt looks absolutely lovely on you."

"Thank you. For the compliment and this. I love it," Jeongguk thanked, grabbing his hand.

Taehyung nodded. "I'm glad you do. You ready to go out?"

"Mhm," Jeongguk sounded. They grabbed all their things and made their way out in the outfits they had chosen for each other.

As soon as they got to the car, Taehyung went ahead to open the door for Jeongguk. Even that small gesture got Jeongguk down into a puddle. Jeongguk did nag Taehyung asking him where they would be going in such nice clothing throughout, but Taehyung didn't budge. Jeonggguk didn't mind though, he liked being on the edge of his seat.

Finally, they arrived in some kind of park situation and Taehyung parked his car in the mostly empty lot. Taehyung got out and opened the door for Jeongguk before he could and took a hold of his hand. Taehyung pressed the door closed and lead Jeongguk into the park.

"Where are we going?" Jeongguk asked.

"It's a shortcut," Taehyung replied but something in his tone gave away that it wasn't.

"Is it a picnic?" Jeongguk guessed, too excited to hold back.

"No, baby. Please don't get your hopes up too high, I'm scared it won't reach your expectations," Taehyung said, starting to sound a bit nervous.

Jeongguk gave his hand a small squeeze and looked at him. "Anywhere with you will be perfect. You know that right?"

"Mhm," Taehyung said, squeezing his hand back. He smiled as he came to a stop. "Look."

Jeongguk's head immediately snapped to look at what was in front of them. He gasped, his spare hand coming to clasp over his mouth as he couldn't believe what he was looking at. Two beautiful horses ready to pull the carriage at the driver's command. Straight out of a fairytale.

"Oh my god," Jeongguk whispered, letting his hand fall back to his side. "Something's telling me this is just the beginning of tonight," Jeongguk said.

"Mm, you think so?" Taehyung said and lead Jeongguk to the carriage. He took the bouquet of daisies the driver was holding for him and handed them to Jeongguk.

"My favourites," Jeongguk said and Taehyung smiled. He helped Jeongguk get on before joining at his side.

Jeongguk did a tiny yelp as the horses took off, clutching onto Taehyung's hand tightly. Taehyung gave him a reassuring squeezed and pointed at the scenery. Jeongguk watched it all with twinkling eyes. As they entered the road, he let his head rest on Taehyung's shoulder, knowing that his night was only going to get better.

The ride finally came to a stop in front of a building and Jeongguk could see through the window how fancy everything looked. All the tables in view were packed and Jeongguk felt a little overwhelmed as he got out of the carriage, wondering if he belonged in such a place. Jeongguk made sure to not let his worries show through. Taehyung must've gone through so much effort to get them a reservation.

Jeongguk was ready to walk in with the other but Taehyung stopped him. "Not in there," he said and then pointed to the side where there were stairs that lead all the way up. Jeongguk shot a questioning look at his boyfriend but followed his lead.

They had to climb straight for a minute and half before they finally reached the rooftop. Jeongguk gasped again. The place was lit up with mainly candles and fairy light, a single table for them by the side where they could have a nice view of the night sky, and there was even a small orchestra ready to play for them. Jeongguk could tell the rooftop was an addition to the restaurant but he couldn't believe Taehyung rented out the entire spot.

"Tae, this is..." Jeongguk was at a loss for words. With a proud smile, Taehyung placed a hand on Jeongguk's back to lead him to his seat. He found that their dinner was already there with a cloche covering it.

When Taehyung settled down in his chair, a man with a tray carrying a bottle of wine in a bucket of ice walked over to them. Jeongguk looked at Taehyung, surprised but Taehyung was enjoying it all. The server poured them both their drinks and set the bottle aside. He then lifted the cloche and revealed what's on the menu.

A orangish soup in a small dish that smelt absolute fantastic. "Your crab brisquee, the main course will be prepared soon," the server said and Jeongguk was surprised the man spoke in Korean.

"Thank you," Taehyung said for the both of them. The server nodded and placed the cloches on the tray he brought and went to the elevator all the way across.

"How did you prepare all of this?" Jeongguk asked, absolutely astonished.

"Jimin and Jihyo helped getting the place booked. I wanted to do more but it was so last minute, the firework guy said there's too much paperwork to go through so..." Taehyung started, actually sounding disappointed.

"Tae, this is just perfect. Don't worry," Jeongguk said, placing his hand on Taehyung's that rested in the table. Taehyung smiled and pointed at the soup. "Try it."

Jeongguk took a spoonful of the brisquee and maybe it was just a coincidence, but the music started playing as soon as it touched his tongue. "It's so good," Jeongguk moaned, going in for another spoon.

Next came a delicious mouth watering steak like the ones Jeongguk always saw in western movies. It was just as good but it was probably dessert what got Jeongguk really excited. The server, which he learned was named Albert, brought a whole parlour with him up the elevator. It was a transparent cart with all the flavours Jeongguk could possibly think off. There were bowls and waffles cones, sprinkles, marshmallows, and everything he could ever want. Jeongguk let the inner child in him go wild.

He chose a bowl and asked for all the different flavours he wanted to try. Taehyung watched him with a content smile and endearment. Whenever Jeongguk's eyes went wide, he'd prepare himself to get a bite from the flavour Jeongguk needed him to try.

Finally, they finished their three course meal. Taehyung stood up and Jeongguk wondered if there would be more surprises. Taehyung went over to the musicians and told them to pause. He requested the violin from the violinist and he passed it over with a smile.

"You play?" Jeongguk asked, brows shot up.

"My agency thought I was becoming too stressed and suggested I take on a hobby. I chose the violin," Taehyung said as he propped up the instrument. "I sucked really bad the last time I remember. Any requests?"

"Hmm, anything," Jeongguk said, propping his arms on the table and leaning his chin against his hands. Taehyung played a note and stopped to laugh.

"Hey, play," Jeongguk whined and Taehyung nodded. He began to play the tune Jeongguk recognized from Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. It wasn't perfect but it was a good attempt. Taehyung finished without bursting out into laughter somehow and Jeongguk clapped furiously. Taehyung bowed dramatically before handing the instrument back to its owner and requested a song.

He walked over to Jeongguk and offered a hand. "Care to dance?" he asked and Jeongguk nodded taking his hand. He lifted himself of the chair and walked to the middle of the rooftop. Taehyung held their hands up a little higher and the other on his waist while Jeongguk put his on Taehyung's shoulder.

They swayed along to the beautiful tunes while looking at each other. It felt like they were the only ones in the world at that very moment, floating in a time of their own.

"Thank you, tonight was perfect. You are perfect. I love you," Jeongguk said and connected their lips for a gentle kiss.

"I love you too," Taehyung replied when they pulled away. Jeongguk let his head rest against Taehyung's chest as they kept dancing to the rest of the song. Slowly, they went, not wanting to miss even a single second of their time together.

KTH

Earlier...

"The food was great, don't you think?" Mr. Park said, catching Taehyung off-guard as he washing his hand. He didn't even hear him enter the restroom.

"Yes, it was," Taehyung replied, keeping his answer short on purpose. All his past conversation with the man never turned out so well.

"Have you though about my father-in-law's nomination?" Mr. Park asked while washing his hands too and Taehyung did his best not to groan.

"I have and if President Lee believes I'm qualified, I'd like to maintain his trust and prove to him I can," Taehyung answered, hoping he didn't sound too arrogant.

"Hm, so that's your choice. Well, good seeing you today, Taehyung," he said and left the restroom without drying his hands.

Taehyung sighed, knowing he'd just earned himself another enemy.
