fifteen²: trust me

JJG

There have been moments in Jeongguk's life that are so terribly humiliating, he has somehow found a way to completely erase them from his memory – except for when they'd return at two in the morning and keep him up for the rest of the night. Now, Jeongguk knew it was normal for all humans to have their embarrassing times, but Jeongguk knew that his had to be the absolute worst.

This was quite possibly the worst of them all.

He heard Taehyung softly calling out to him and he felt the light taps his shoulder's got. He should've gotten up and let Taehyung go, he might've even been in a rush and god knows what time it was. Yet, Jeongguk didn't because he knew if he opened his eyes now he'd never be able to look at Taehyung again.

Jeongguk blamed no one but himself. He shouldn't have let himself fall asleep or he should've at least woken up first. Yet again, he couldn't help but doze off in the comfort of Taehyung's arms. If only he hadn't been a hopeless idiot and leaned into Taehyung's hold which he yearned for so dearly, he wouldn't have ended up in the position he is at now.

Arms wrapped around Taehyung's waist, head on the man's chest, and cuddled into him, restraining almost all of Taehyung's movement.

Jeongguk mentally prepared himself. He couldn't remain like this forever. He counted down to three before he pretended to groan and stir in his sleep, letting go of Taehyung and turning his body the other way. He found a pillow on the side and hugged it, releasing another groan before laying still. That had to do it.

Jeongguk heard a short chuckle then felt the couch he was on rise from the weight being lifted. A hand brushed his hair back and Jeongguk nearly gasped but he managed to keep quiet. At least he knew Taehyung believed he was actually asleep. He heard the shuffling of feet until it became a distant sound and then heard no more. Jeongguk was finally able to let out the breath he was holding in.

Jeongguk slowly turned his head to make sure the coast was clear. He exhaled a large sigh and sat up straight, all the tiredness he'd usually have in the mornings was gone. His heart still raced fast, the warmth of Taehyung's body still on his hand. Jeongguk missed it.

"You're awake?" he heard a voice behind him ask.

"Uh, yeah. Did I fall asleep here?" Jeongguk asked, glad that his voice was still raspy, sounding like he just woke up.

"Mhm. I'm making breakfast, how do you want your eggs?" Taehyung asked walking over to the kitchen. Jeongguk didn't even know they had ingredients to make food.

"Scrambled?" Jeongguk replied and got up, rushing over to the bathroom as he realized there's a chance his face might've gotten red. It was slightly, just a light blush and luckily barely noticeable. Jeongguk brushed his teeth and washed his face off with cold water, making sure he's fully awake.

"What the hell's going on Jeongguk, hmm? What? You miss him or something? Miss going on dates with him? Miss cuddling him? Why are you so pathetic, man?" Jeongguk asked himself, staring at the reflection in his mirror. He shook his head, patted his face dry and returned to the living room.

Taehyung had the eggs out and in the pan by the time Jeongguk got to the kitchen. The man leaned against the island counter and crossed his arm, for some reason deciding to just watch Taehyung instead of offering help.

His eyes watched how his arms would flex as they moved around to grab salt or pepper, or with the spatula to scramble the eggs or shake the pan. It's not Jeongguk's fault Taehyung had an amazing back view.

Jeongguk had imagined this before. One of them would be cooking or making something in the kitchen and the other would sneak up behind them, catching them in a back hug, bothering the other while they tried to continue on with the task by tickling them or pressing soft kisses up their neck. A frown made its way up to Jeongguk's lips as he realized that never happened and never will.

"Can you toast the bread for me?" Taehyung requested and Jeongguk snapped out of his thoughts.

"Oh, y-yeah," Jeongguk said and pushed himself off the island, biting his tongue for stuttering. He grabbed the bag of bread that was already out and Jeongguk could already tell it was an expensive brand. He popped four slices into the toaster (he's only ever owned the ones that could toast two at a time) and waited for them to finish.

"So, what's the plan for today?" Taehyung asked looking at Jeongguk.

"Other than the anniversary event tonight, nothing," Jeongguk answered.

"And you?"

"I was gonna practice my English," Jeongguk said, wondering if Taehyung wanted to show him around some more today as well.

"I can help if you get stumped on anything," Taehyung said and Jeongguk nodded, now wondering if Taehyung would stay there the whole day. He was sure Taehyung would've wanted to visit his friends there.

The toast finished with a ding and jumped up, startling Jeongguk and causing him to swear quietly. He quickly slapped a hand to his lips and looked at Taehyung. It wasn't exactly appropriate to be cussing in front of your boss, but Taehyung let out a short laugh. One that got brought out his pretty smile and created little wrinkles at the corner of his eyes. Jeongguk turned away embarrassingly, pulled out the toasts and placed them on two plates.

"Do you want your egg on the side or on the bread?" Taehyung asked.

"Umm, on the side please," Jeongguk answered and Taehyung scooped some of the scrambled egg up and placed them in Jeongguk's plate. He placed the rest on top of his toast.

Taehyung set the pan back down to be washed later and grabbed both their plates. Jeongguk watched confused as Taehyung walked around the island and placed their dishes on top. Taehyung took a seat on of the stools and patted the seat next to him. Jeongguk wondered if this was his method of making sure they ate together. He grabbed a couple forks and got himself on the stool.

"I gotta say, Taehyung, you make a good scrambled egg," Jeongguk praised after he took his first bite.

Taehyung laughed softly and Jeongguk looked at him, scrunching his eyebrows together. "What's so funny?" Jeongguk asked.

Taehyung took a bite of his egg toast and shook his head. "Nothing," he answered after swallowing.

"You sure?"

"Mhm."

"Taehyung," Jeongguk whined, hoping he wasn't the subject of the joke.

Taehyung smiled harder and Jeongguk realized the man wasn't exactly laughing, more like giggling to himself. It was a little endearing.

"Is there something on my face?" Jeongguk asked wiping the corner of his lips with the back of his hand.

"No, no," Taehyung said, his grin still wide.

Jeongguk frowned and took a big bite of his toast, chewing harshly. He's probably remembering my tight hold on him this morning, how humiliating, Jeongguk thought.

"Are you pouting?" Taehyung asked, only becoming more amused.

"No I'm not!" Jeongguk said defensively, pursing his lips inwards which probably didn't make his situation any better.

"You are," Taehyung insisted, more laughs erupting.

"You're mean," Jeongguk said, throwing a "menacing" glare. He got off the stool, grabbed his plate and left to take a seat on the couch.

"Are you purposely trying to be cute?" Taehyung asked. Jeongguk's heart nearly stopped but he didn't show any signs of it.

"I'm not trying anything," Jeongguk answered not looking at him. He grabbed the remote and tuned into some random channel.

Jeongguk kept his eyes glued to the television except for the few glances he would get at Taehyung who was too busy on his phone to notice. Then only did Jeongguk realize how weird and abnormal this whole situation was. If this man was anyone else, Jeongguk would've never felt this comfortable to be sitting cross-legged in front of a television eating with his boss less that 5 metres away. Then again, Taehyung and Jeongguk's relationship was far from normal.

Jeongguk finished eating first and washed his plate. He offered to wash Taehyung's plate too but the man denied and did it himself. Jeongguk returned to his and pulled out his laptop and dictionary, ready to study but the room quickly began to feel stuffy. He grabbed all his things and set himself out on the dining table remembering Taehyung went to his room to do some work.

An hour or so passed by and the free online YouTube classes just sent Jeongguk in a spiral. He had a notebook out to take notes on important information, but everything just left him scratching his head.

"How's it going?" Jeongguk heard Taehyung ask walking to him.

"Great! Honestly, I think I'm fluent," Jeongguk replied. Taehyung chuckled and grabbed a seat beside him.

"Want me to test you? I can say some phrases and you can't translate in English," Taehyung offered.

"Yeah, sure. Shoot, I'll ace this," Jeongguk answered with fake confidence.

"Okay, we'll start easy. Where is the bathroom?"

"Where is bathroom?"

"Close enough. How much is this?"

"How much is this?"

"Spot on. You are very kind."

"You very- ah no- You are very kind."

"Good, good. Can I borrow your phone, please?"

"Can I... borrow... how do you say borrow again?" Jeongguk asked with a sweet look.

Taehyung shook his head and made an obnoxious buzzer sound. "Incorrect. C'mere," Taehyung said, get his hand up I the air.

"Woah," Jeongguk stretched, a hand covering his forehead with an innocent smile. "Don't you think we're too old for that?"

"Mmm, no," Taehyung said and bent his fingers ready to flick.

Jeongguk groaned and lowered his hand, not recalling agreeing to this. "Okay, go quick," he said and shut his eyes tightly. He waited until for the hit but it never came. He slowly opened his eyes and saw Taehyung covering his mouth to hold in his laughter.

"You're being really cheeky today, aren't you?" Jeongguk mumbled, crossing his arms. He really did wonder what sparked the sudden change in Taehyung. Maybe it was Jeongguk who was thinking weirdly– he also needed to let a little loose and stop being so uptight about keeping a good distance.

"Hey, you remember our reward system?" Jeongguk asked, his voice a lot lower than before and the distance between them getting shorter and shorter as Jeongguk leaned in close.

Taehyung smile dropped as the man began to blink rapidly. "Er..."

"I got three right, if I recall," Jeongguk said, now only centimetres apart. He was hoping Taehyung would laugh and push him away, he didn't expect for him to just sit their frozen. Maybe he took this joke a little too far. Or maybe it wasn't even a joke anymore seeing how Jeongguk couldn't even cough up a laugh of his own to end it.

"Jeongguk..." Taehyung whispered and Jeongguk's smile dropped too. Jeongguk's body felt stuck in place. He couldn't move away, more like he wanted to move closer.

Jeongguk knew he would have to come face to face with his feelings eventually, and quite literally at that, he was just hoping he'd have all the time in the world to come in terms with it. He remembered what Chaeyoung asked him that day, if he wanted to get back with Taehyung.

It's not like Taehyung was a cheater or a terrible man, and it's not like he's changed a lot now. He become a lot more mature, actually. He made one mistake all those years ago. It's not like Jeongguk's never made a mistake before. Who's he kidding? Jeongguk's only using that as an excuse at this point.

It's the fear that's keeping them apart. The fear that Taehyung will leave him again. Jeongguk had always seen Taehyung in his future and when he suddenly wasn't, his world just collapsed. It was like everything that could go wrong went wrong. He was scared that if he let Taehyung back into his life, it might happen all over again. Could he trust him with his heart again?

Jeongguk didn't realize how dependant he was on Taehyung until he shut his laptop close and was left alone. He felt pathetic and powerless. Jeongguk never wanted to go through that again. Could he trust Taehyung to never let him get to that state again?

"Are you drunk?" Taehyung asked still sounding breathless.

"No," Jeongguk answered.

"Good," Taehyung said with a small nod.

Taehyung's hand carefully raised and held onto the side of Jeongguk's face. Jeongguk's eyes instantly shut at the contact. They then fluttered open after a few seconds and saw Taehyung looking at him nervously. He heard the man gulp. Taehyung leaned in closer hesitantly, and Jeongguk did nothing to stop him.

Maybe he could trust him.

"One," Taehyung whispered and pressed a delicate little kiss on Jeongguk's forehead and Jeongguk's eyes shut again. If just Taehyung holding his face had his heart pumping out his chest, he didn't know how to describe what that did to him.

"Two," he said, even quieter than before and laid one on the cheek he wasn't holding.

"Three."

Some moments passed and Jeongguk felt nothing else. He opened his eyes and looked at Taehyung. Taehyung gulped again. He tilted his head and leaned in, but the buzz at the door stopped him. Jeongguk could tell from Taehyung confused glance at the door that he wasn't expecting anyone. Why did Jeongguk feel so disappointed?

Taehyung pulled away. "I-I'll go get the d–"

Jeongguk shook his head and cut him off by pressing their lips together. Jeongguk was drunk that day so he didn't truly remember the feeling of having Taehyung's lips on his again but god did it feel great. Jeongguk just threw away all his senses away and in the heat of the moment, grabbed onto his collar to pull him closer, to kiss him harder. He'd been craving for it for seven year. Seven whole damn years he's longed for this very moment.

When the doorbell buzzed again, Jeongguk knew his long awaited moment had to be cut short. The two pulled out away and let go of each other, pushing themselves back into the chair as if they'd snapped themselves out of a dream.

Taehyung glanced at Jeongguk but got startled by the third buzz. He got up, realizing whoever it was wasn't about to give up and went to the door while Jeongguk tried to sink back more in his chair. Jeongguk bit his lip hard, wondering if it was in fact a dream. A smile made it's way to Jeongguk's lips without himself even realizing.

"You idiot," Jeongguk muttered under his breath to himself, trying to get his breath to even. Jeongguk thought he could keep his heart in-check, but he doesn't know if he could keep it shut in for any longer.

"Jimin? What're you doing here? I thought you were going to stay for another week," he heard Taehyung's voice. Jeongguk turned around to get a better look.

"You know I can't stay in that place for more than three days," Jimin said and walked in past Taehyung. "Those reporters never get tired. I mean, is our lives really that fucking interesting?" he said, falling on the couch with a sigh.

"You guys are the royal family of Korea after all," Taehyung said after he shut the door, following after him.

"Don't get it. But hey, aren't you glad to see me?"

"How did you even know I was in this suite?"

"I have my ways. Why are your lips so swollen? And speaking of suites, this is a really nice once damn," Jimin said looking around and when his eye's met Jeongguk's, he finally noticed they weren't the only two in the room.

"Oh god," Jimin said looking back and forth between the two with his mouth wide open, getting bigger as he connected the dots. "Fuck, did I interrupt something?"
