Diana stared blankly at her ceiling. It was four in the morning and for whatever reason, sleep was escaping her. The girl was restless, though she didn't know why. Ever since she arrived home her mind had been in hyper drive. All she wanted to do was sleep and her mind simply wouldn't let her. And no matter what she did, her thoughts kept drifting back towards one thing, or rather person: Artemis Fowl. For some reason, the girl found herself drawn to him. It wasn't everyday that she found someone who could keep up with her in intellectual conversation, let alone a boy.

Not to mention he's super cute, she thought before mentally slapping herself. Stop it! You have a boyfriend!

Diana shook her head, trying her hardest to shake the Irish boy from her thoughts, but her efforts were futile. Artemis captivated her for some reason. He was intelligent, mysterious, and goal-orientated. She sighed, pulling her pillow closer to her. She closed her eyes, hoping maybe this time she could pass out from sleep-deprivation. Only... every time she closed her eyes all she could see were his sapphire blue ones staring back at her through his lengthy raven hair.

Moments later, she sat up in bed, tossing her pillow aside as she sighed angrily. She was done trying to sleep. Why should she bother? If she was going to be awake, she might as well do something useful with her time. After turning on her light, the girl pulled out her laptop from the foot of her bed, and soon began her work on her latest story. Maybe all of this excitement would be beneficial to her writing.

Before Diana could get too far into her story, her bedroom door burst open, and a younger girl plopped herself down on Diana's bed. "Whatcha doing, Di?" she asked, looking over her Diana's shoulder.

"Nothing Marisa," Diana sighed, unsure why her little sister was still wide awake. "Just trying to write since I can't sleep."

Marisa frowned. "Well why can't you sleep?"

Diana shrugged. Did she dare say why she really thought she couldn't sleep? "I've just been thinking about everything that happened today."

Diana watched as her younger sister's blue eyes stared back at her with a bit of confusion in them. "You guys just went to the museums. Nothing to out of the ordinary there, nor is it that exciting. What could you possibly be thinking about?"

Diana bit her tongue for a moment. "I err... met this guy there."

That was all Marisa needed to hear in order to freak out. "A guy? What do you mean a guy? What happened to Brent? Did you two break up or something?"

The brunette sighed at her sister's outburst. "No, Brent and I are fine... at least for now."

Marisa raised an eyebrow. "So you met this guy there? And?"

Diana debated how she was going to answer the girl's question. "Well... for whatever reason... he's the reason I can't sleep. I know that sounds positively terrible, but I can't. Every time I close my eyes, I see his staring back at me. It's super weird."

"So what's his name then?" Marisa went on with her questioning. "And how did you meet him in the first place?"

Diana took a deep breath. "His name is Artemis Fowl. And... we met while we were at the museum and I just walked up to him, introduced myself, and we just kind of hung out a bit. He's only here for two weeks on a family vacation."

Marisa started to giggle. "Isn't Artemis a girl's name?"

Diana hit her sister with a nearby pillow as she rolled her eyes. "Of course it is. Artemis is the Greek goddess of the hunt and moon, the equivalent to my namesake. But... once in a while males are named for her."

"Well that's weird," she kept laughing.

"You're not helping me, Risa," Diana sighed. Her sister stopped laughing and started to calm down. When the laughter ceased, Diana continued, "He's just different, okay? I don't know why but something about him draws me to him, like moths to a light."

"Sounds like Brent has competition," Marisa smirked.

"No," Diana decided. "Artemis is just a friend. That's all he'll ever be. He lives in Ireland. Long distance relationships don't tend to work out. Sides, I don't think he's interested in me like that."

Diana could tell her sister was skeptical about her explanation. Hell, even she was a bit. She had never found herself in this situation before. She had never found herself drawn to another guy before while being happily with another. Or was she truly happy? That was a question she had been asking herself long before Artemis had even shown up. Diana was honestly beginning to get fed up with Brent and his ways. She had yet to receive a text since he had gotten out of work five hours ago; at this point she honestly didn't care anymore. She was sure she had just wasted about two years of her life with him, as part of her believed the end was coming soon. And considering that, she wasn't nearly as upset as she should've been.

"Why don't you think he likes you?" Marisa asked.

"He's more of an intellectual, not to mention a bit of a loner," Diana frowned. "He acted as if he was unsure of how to act towards me, like he wasn't sure how to make friends."

Marisa didn't say anything for a moment. "How can you not know how to make friends? It's like an instinct we're all born with." She paused for a moment. "And I can tell he's lacking in the friend department since he picked you." Diana shot her sister a glare for only a second before Marisa added, "Well... you can be a bit brutal sometimes."

"Yea, I know that," Di answered. "But I'll have you know he and I got along just fine."

"Of course you did," Marisa went on. "I think you like him."

Diana gave her a serious look. "I just met him today. It takes a lot longer than a few hours for me to like someone." She turned away from her sister and went back to typing her story.

"So is he cute?" Marisa interrupted.

Diana took a deep breath, once again wondering if she should dare speak the truth about Artemis. "He's... adorable, actually." Before she said anything else she fell backwards onto her bed. "He's got this flawless pale skin, and these deep sapphire blue eyes, and this lengthy black hair..." She caught herself midsentence, forgetting she really shouldn't have been talking about the boy like that.

"I knew it," Marisa replied. "You do like him!"

Diana ignored her sister's accusation as she pulled out her phone. She stared at the screen for a moment before she decided to send Artemis a text. Nothing more than a 'hey' but she figured he'd at least provide some entertainment since she couldn't sleep. "Why are you still awake?" she finally asked her sister, setting her phone down on her stomach.

"I was just playing some Call of Duty," Marisa shrugged. "Kinda lost track of time after a while. I honestly wasn't expecting you to still be awake."

Diana frowned slightly. "Yea, me either." She rested her hand over her phone just in time to feel it go off. She picked it up, staring at it for a moment, momentarily shocked that she actually got a response from Artemis. Almost instantly a smile appeared on her face when she read the 'hello' she received in response. She thought for a moment before asking Marisa, "Do you think he'd be mad if I called him?"

"Um... I don't know. Is he even awake?" Marisa asked back.

Diana showed her sister her phone. "Unless someone else is answering his phone, or he has an automatic response system, he is."

Marisa shrugged as she stood up. "Hey... whatever helps you sleep at night. I'm going to bed!" With that, Diana watched her sister leave her room before shutting the door behind her.

Diana took a deep breath, pushing her brown hair out of her face as she began to call Artemis. She felt her heart rate increase as she heard the first ring. The girl willed it to slow down, but when she heard Artemis' voice answer she realized that was impossible.

"Hello?" he answered.

"Good morning, Artemis," Diana said quietly. "I hope I didn't wake you."

She heard him chuckle lightly. "Hardly. I haven't gotten a spot of sleep all night. Do you always wake so early?"

"Oh no," Diana answered him. "I couldn't sleep either. And I tend to sleep in."

"Well that certainly is odd," Artemis answered her. "Did you need something?"

Diana hadn't thought of that. Did she need something? She supposed the only reason she had called was because she was bored with not getting any rest, and she needed someone to talk to. However, she certainly didn't want to tell Artemis that. She tried to think of something, anything at all she could tell him. "I was wondering what you were going to be up to tomorrow afternoon?"

Artemis didn't speak for several moments. "I don't believe I will be doing anything. Why do you ask?"

"I was wondering if you'd maybe like to do something," Diana allowed herself to say. "Maybe go to the mall or something?"

A rush of static came pouring through her ear. She was sure he was going to say no. "Well... normally I would protest about such typical teenaged arrangements, but yes. I suppose I could join you in this visit. After all, what harm could it do?"

Diana almost let out a squeal of joy. "Awesome. Meet me at the Genesee Valley Mall say... around two o'clock? Sears entrance?"

"Sounds good to me," he answered. "Now, shall we both attempt to get some sleep? It would be beneficial to the both of us."

Diana smiled slightly. "Sounds good to me. Good night Artemis. See you soon."

"Good night," was all she heard before the line died.

She sat her phone down and turned off her bedroom light all in one swift motion. Diana laid back down, pulling her pillow closer to her. She finally got comfortable after a few minutes and she closed her eyes once more. It was the first time in a long time she had actually fallen asleep with a smile on her face.
