THERE IS NO WAR IN EDEN'S GARDEN.

Though Coruscant — a planet composed of towering skyscrapers and gleaming city lights — has never been a place well-known for nurturing and growth, the seeds she buries plant roots and sprout shoots, blooming into medicinal herbs used for wellness and healing. While the rest of the galaxy has been engulfed by the chaos and destruction of the Clone War, such senseless violence seems light-years away from the hallowed halls of the ancient Jedi temple. The fortress's sturdy stone walls have always been a safe-haven for those who reside inside their protection; a silk-spun chrysalis where butterflies can grow their wings, a carefully-crafted nest where little birds can learn to fly. Like most of the younglings living within the confines of the temple, Coruscant is the only home and the Jedi Order is the only family that Eden Nazari has ever known.

As a newly ordained Padawan and fledgling apprentice to renowned Jedi Healer Saul Jericho, Eden spends her days studying the art of putting things back together rather than tearing them apart. Unlike many of her peers and fellow Padawan learners, so eager for the chance to brave the fields of battle and prove their valor, Eden has no stomach for violence; no heart for bloodshed; no spirit for war.

Your kind heart is your greatest strength, her master often tells her. Don't ever lose it.

But war has never shown much compassion towards the peacemakers and the pacifists. Violence finds its way to Eden's home front on the day of the temple bombing that claims the lives of many innocents — including Eden's gentle-spirited master. That day marks the moment that the war ceases to be some faraway thing, opening Eden's eyes to the harsh realities of death and betrayal. Yet the bombing is only the beginning of her heartbreak, culminating with the Chancellor's fateful order of the Jedi purge that snuffs out the green of her golden childhood and sinks Eden into grief.

A wilted woman without a place to put down roots, Eden struggles to find her purpose in a galaxy that no longer holds space for people like her. She spends years wandering different worlds, never staying in one place for very long as she follows the luminous guidance of the Force, holding onto faith in the hopes that it will not fail her or steer her astray.

Perhaps it is kismet, then — a divine act of Force or fate — that leads her path to cross with two weary travelers: a Twi'lek woman with the heart of a rebel and a man Eden had known a lifetime ago during her years spent at the Jedi Temple, when she was still a fledgling girl and he a youngling boy with a penchant for asking too many questions; never knowing when to back down from a challenge.

United by the Force in the midst of an uncertain future, there is one solitary certainty to be found for these lonely hearts: that it was only when lost that they were able to find each other — and that whatever challenges each new dawn will bring, they will face them together.

a/n:           gonna try to NOT write another 1000+ word essay like i did on my last author's note bc THAT was embarrassing 🥴 but i do have a few words to say before we begin so hellooooo hope ur all doing welllllll!!! 👋 i am so so excited to share this fic after lots of planning/pre-writing/all that fun stuff. not sure how many of my readers are rebels fans but i'm looking forward to finding out since this is going to be my first fic in that portion (?) of the fandom! 💓 as i usually do in my notes, i have a couple of things i want to discuss ~real quick~
           ↳ #1: even though this book is labeled as a kanan jarrus fic, the main relationship will be a poly relationship between eden/kanan/hera. i spent a lot of time thinking about this decision but i'm literally so attached to kanera that it would physically pain me to separate them so i simply did not separate them 💆‍♀️ part of what i love about their characters is that they themselves are incredibly loving people and eden obviously has a big heart too, so between the three of them i think that there's plenty of love to go around!!! 🥰 that being said: i'm aware that poly fics aren't for everyone, so if that's not ur cup of tea, it's not ur cup of tea — but don't be rude bc i won't hear it & i won't respond to it!🧍‍♀️
           ↳ #2: i did my best to be as accurate as possible while fancasting the characters from the show. while their ethnicities are never specified, the creators have confirmed that none of the human protagonists of rebels are white. i've found that the general consensus in the fandom is that sabine wren is of east or southeast asian descent, which is why i chose anna suda (japanese and filipino) for her and that ezra bridger is of south asian descent, which is why i chose aramis knight (pakistani-indian and caucasian descent) for him. kanan is a little more ethnically ambiguous, but i decided to go with martin sensmeier, who is of native alaskan descent. as for hera and zeb: i chose actors who i felt could best embody their characters. i think jason has the right mix of gruffness and humor that he would make a great zeb and i think sonequa would kill it as hera after seeing her in discovery. if you don't agree with my casting for any characters, feel free to imagine whomever you like as long as you're respectful!
           ↳ #3: similar to punisher, this book will deal with adult themes and is marked as mature since some content may be better suited for older readers, but here's a more in depth list of possible triggers: ⚠️ TRIGGER WARNINGS ⚠️ depictions of violence, mentions of torture, character deaths, mature content, adult language, mental health related issues (ptsd, depression, anxiety, insomnia), harmful coping mechanisms (alcohol abuse, risk-taking behavior), etc. additional warnings may be added if necessary. as always: your mental health is the most important thing to prioritize so please don't read if you are uncomfortable with any of these things!!!
           ↳ #4: disclaimer — obviously, i own nothing! all rights belong to disney/lucasfilm for star wars rebels. however: while this book will mostly be following canon, portions of it are going to be canon divergent/alternate universe-ish 🖖 the first portion of this book occurs in the seven year gap between the novel a new dawn and rebels, during the period when it's only hera and kanan together on the ghost and detailing events such as zeb and sabine joining the crew! 🤠 the rest of the book will follow rebels' timeline, but that early portion of the story will be my version of events. also: i may or may not tweak some things involving certain canon characters throughout the story *cough* barriss offee *cough* so keep ur eyes peeled! 👁👄👃👁
           ↳#5: if you're primarily a movie watcher and haven't seen rebels/clone wars, you'll probably be alright reading this fic without getting ~too~ confused. that being said: i highly encourage everyone to watch rebels, which is essentially a show that's all about a found family fighting space fascists with their murder bot. i mean what's NOT to like there??? but in all seriousness: it's one of my favorite pieces of sw media and i think a lot of you would enjoy it if you gave it a chance! 💓
           OK OK ‼️ shutting up now since this still ended up being super long 🤦‍♀️ i've got some more fun stuff in the drafts that i hope to be able to share soon, but for now i'm planning to focus on this fic & punisher & and maaaaaybe my ezra fic simmer if i can finish finalizing the details for that book. other than that: i'm super excited to share this story with all of u and i hope you're excited too! i'll be seeing you soon MWAH 💋
