Chapter Eighty-Four
Don't let me go ~ Bandit Heart.
ALLIE.
Those blue innocent and kind eyes met mine. But his sweet husky voice took a serious and cold tone. In that exact moment, I knew I was screwed.
"What the fùck are you doing here?" Louis asks again.
"I- I wa-was-" I stutter and stop for a moment. "Louis you have to understand that I care about him." I finally get an explanation.
"Okay. That's okay. As long as you tell Harry what you just told me. Word for word." He sternly responds.
"Louis please, you know that's only going to stir more trouble. Please don't make me say that to Harry. I'm begging you." I take his hand in mine.
"That could possibly be Nana's killer. How could you go down there alone?" Louis' voice is now softer and filled with concern.
"We both know that he isn't capable of that. You of all people know that a greater chance is that he's innocent. Please Lou-"
"Stop. Just stop Allie. Why do you want to complicate things for Zayn? We both know that Harry's anger comes from a deeper place that has more to do with you than Nana's death. You need to stay away from him. Go! Now!" He snatches his hand away from me leaving me shocked and hurt.
Louis has never spoken to me in that tone. I feel the lump in my throat become bigger and decide to walk away before I embarrassingly burst into tears. Clearly everything is my fault.
Now I have to fix it.
HARRY.
"Are you just gonna sit there and not talk?" I ask Niall and Liam who have been awfully quiet since I got here.
Liam looks everywhere but at me. Niall gives me tiny glances at a time like they're both waiting for each other to break the silence.
"Liam?" I call him out.
He gives me a death stare then goes back to texting or whatever it is that he is always doing. Is he kidding me right now?
"Are you serious?" I ask unbelievably.
"What do you want me to say Harry? You're fùcking beating my friend- our friend, to a pulp and God knows what else!" He barks at me. His voice echoes through the new secret warehouse.
"He betrayed me! He betrayed us all!" I shout back.
"You are so blinded by your stupid jealousy and love for that bi-"
Before he could finish, I charge towards him. I want him to finish what he was about to say right to my face so that I can give him one of those beatings I've given Zayn.
"Say it! I dare you." As I move closer to him, Niall comes in between us and puts some safe space.
"Guys guys! Stop acting like fùcking children!" He starts.
"But Harry, Liam has a point. This is Zayn we're talking about. He's our friend and partner and we all know he likes to take credit for things he's done. Why would he not admit it? What motive does he have to kill the one woman that was remotely the closest thing to a mother that we all had here?"
Every single time someone tells me all these things in Zayn's defense, I fight the urge to break their face. I can't say that they don't have any point but cameras don't lie.
"We all saw the footage." Is all I say.
"Then man stop beating the bejesus out of him. You can just keep him confined but please stop torturing him." Niall pleads. Who even uses the word bejesus? It's so fûcking Irish of him even though he doesn't go there very much.
I notice Liam's attention is not even on us anymore. He doesn't even look angry or bothered. He seems to be having a conversation over texts with someone. Who could be distracting him?
"I- Uh- I can't be here. I have to go." He states.
"The potential clients will be here any minute from now, you can't leave," I try to be as polite as possible. I know I need him here for the meeting.
"And you can't tell me what to fùcking do." He replies and starts to walk away hurriedly, still typing texts on his phone.
What's his problem?
"It's okay let him be. We can handle the meeting." Niall assures me.
"Let him be? He needs to tell me what his fûcking problem has been since he started screwing Katya!"
"If you ask me, you sound like you're jealous," Niall's eyebrows knit together in confusion.
I'm immediately filled with regret having said that. I sound like a jealous wanker. Fùck. But the regret might be coming from a whole different place.
ALLIE.
The biggest mistake I've made is letting things go this far. I should have come clean to Harry about Nate. Long before everything got ugly, people got hurt and a life was lost. I know that trying to fix this won't change everything that has happened but it will bring some closure to everyone.
I slowly drive towards the gate and stop where the guard is. This is the first time I've driven myself since I came to Harry's. I doubt that anyone knows that I can drive.
"Miss Allison, I've been instructed to not let anyone in or out of this compound." The new guard politely lets me know.
"I know, it's just that, Harry won't be home till later. So he feels that I'll be safer with him. I'm going to meet him." I grab onto the wheel tightly to prevent my hands from shaking. My voice as stern as I could make it.
He eyes me with a lot of doubt in his eyes.
"You can go ahead and confirm with Louis. Or better yet, I'll just call Harry and let him know that you don't want to let me out." I reach for my phone in my purse on the passenger seat.
"No miss, wait!" He stops me. "I don't want any trouble." He adds and goes ahead to key in the pin.
I heave a sigh of relief as the gates slide open. I know the poor guy will be in trouble but I need to stop the bigger problem at hand. I step on the gas peddle and speed off before anyone could follow me. I see Louis outside the house through the rear view mirror. Shìt. I don't have much time.
My sweaty palms grip on the wheel as I maneuver the sharp bends of the lonely dirt road. I adjust the rear view mirror to give me a view of the back seat.
Zayn lies there looking somehow peaceful. Even with the bruises on his face, it's not hard to notice just how handsome he is.
*flashback*
I walk down the stairs, listening keenly, trying to catch any voices. It's dead silent, just as I had hoped. There is no sign of Harry, Louis, Lacey or any of Harry's men. It's late in the afternoon and I'm sure everyone believes that nothing could happen or go wrong in broad daylight. Good.
I can hear myself breathe as I turn the lock to the basement. Looking around to make sure that no is following me, I slip inside and lock the door behind me.
Turning on the light, I find him on same spot I left him. Still looking weak and defeated.
"Zayn. Zayn wake up." I touch his cheek gently, trying not to hurt him any further.
He opens his eyes, with one still injured and he can't open it fully.
"What do you want?" He groggily asks.
"To get you out of here." I state.
"We both know that it's impossible to get me out of here," he counters with a lot of certainty in his voice.
"Just trust me please," I squat and struggle to cut the zip ties connecting him to the chair.
After cutting him loose, I frisk him trying to find his phone.
"Where is your phone?" I ask him.
"I don't know, probably dead or broken." He replies as he searches his pockets.
"Shìt. Okay I need you to give me Liam's number."
"Liam's? Why?" Zayn looks at me with a lot of confusion.
"Just please trust me." I beg him.
I take out my phone and hand it to him. He types out the number and hands the phone back to me.
"Okay, let's go." I help him up and he groans in so much pain.
He can barely stand on his own. I support his weight by placing his arm over my shoulders and wrapping my arm around his waist, being careful not to hurt him.
He stops midway the stairs and supports himself against the wall.
"I can't-"
"You can do this Zayn. Don't you dare give up on me!" I whisper-shout at him.
He takes a moment then holds on to me again. As we approach the door, my heart beats so fast. What if we find Louis out there again?
As I turn the lock and knob, I swear I do it with my eyes closed. Luckily, no one is outside. I release a loud sigh even though I know that the hardest part has just begun.
Zayn's legs are giving out on him. I can tell by how much weight he's putting on me. Beads of sweat are visible on his face. I can feel his pain by just looking at him.
I quietly lead him to the door in the back that leads to the garage. Making it to the garage was half the task. Getting him out is going to be very hard.
I get the keys I stole from Harry's study in my pocket and silently unlock the car. I help Zayn climb inside as he struggles through his injuries and pain.
Before I could lock the door, he grabs my arm.
"Harry will never forgive you." He reminds me of the obvious.
"I know..." my voice cracks as I fight back tears.
That's a risk I'm going to take in order to fix everything. I slowly take his hand and rest it on his chest. He lies in the back and trusts me to get him out of here. I can't afford to fail him.
*end of flashback*
We arrive at the given address but there is no sign of anyone. I turn to check on Zayn who is still sleeping, I think. I hope he hasn't lost consciousness.
"Zayn?" I try to wake him up. All he does is groan.
I detect a fever when I place my hand on his forehead. He isn't doing too well.
I push some locks away from his face still trying to feel his temperature.
I'm startled by the sound of a car pulling over. Thank God he's here. He jumps out of his car quickly and I get out too.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Liam asks in confusion.
"I texted you." I simply reply.
"So you pretended to be Zayn?" His voice shoots up. "Why do you want to get me in trouble?"
"He isn't in a position to text. And I don't want to get you in trouble. Zayn's in the back. I helped him escape and I didn't know who else to turn to. Liam, Zayn is innocent-"
"I know." He cuts me off in the softest tone he's ever spoken to me in.
"He needs medical attention. Please don't take him back to Harry." I plead with him.
"I wouldn't. I- I don't understand." His eyebrows knit together.
"We don't have much time. Take this car and go. I'll use your car instead." I instruct him.
"You're crazy if you think that I'll let you drive my car," he goes back to his usual attitude. Boys and their cars.
"Please trust me." I hand over my keys to him and take his keys almost forcefully from his grip.
"Harry will never forgive you." Liam repeats exactly what Zayn told me.
And now I believe it. My fate is sealed.
I instantly start crying and walk away, leaving Liam standing there in confusion.
"Where are you going?" He yells after me.
"To exonerate Zayn!" I shout back.
A slam of the door, engine roars, foot on the gas peddle.. I'm off to face another fear. I'm gonna make this right.
I make it to my next stop. By the time I'm there, I have so many missed calls. I assume that Harry already found out what I did. I don't even check who tried to call.
I reread the address before getting out of the car. This person is my only hope and if she can help me, I can fix this is whole mess.
I knock on the door and wait nervously.
"Hi Allie."
"Hi Hannah."
I break down and walk into her arms.
AN:
What do you think about what Allie has done?
Will Harry forgive her?
Do you trust Hannah to help her?
Also, sorry for the long wait. A loooot has happened in my life.
