Whole Truth
It was quite a while since Riva's Dr Ma had gone out with her papa. She was missing her a lot. So as to pass her time, she started drawing caricatures, which was her favorite thing to do.
Anupriya came to check Riva and saw her engrossed in something. "What is my princess doing?"
Riva watched her Dadi and happily showed her the drawing she made recently.
"Look Dadi, what I made!", she clapped happily.
"This is me, this is papa and this is Dr Ma. My small family! How is it Dadi?", she asked excitedly while pointing towards the three caricatures she had drawn.
Anupriya smiled at her excitement and caressed her hair. She was happy that Riva was considering Riddhima as a part of her family. She always wanted to give Riva, the love and care of a mother, but a mother is a mother. But seeing her so elated today, gave her a new hope.
"Probably Riddhima is the right girl." She thought and smiled to herself. Suddenly they heard honking sound of the car.
"Papa and Dr Ma has returned. Yayyy!", Riva shouted and rushed downstairs to meet them, as if they were returning after years.
"Slowly Riva!", Anupriya shouted from behind and shook her head at Riva's immaturity.
"Madam didn't liked anyone of them" Anupriya heard Vansh's voice as she descended the stairs.
"So? Haven't you seen the house yourself? No one could ever like them Mister.", Riddhima whined, telling others about the houses she checked.
Anupriya silently adored them, planning something in her mind.
Later, the whole family sat on the dinning to eat the dinner. Today Siya had ordered a special pasta for Riva, thus she served her the pasta, while Riva's eyes beamed with joy.
"Dr Ma, you too try this pasta. It smells yummy!", Riva shouted while licking her lips. Riddhima chuckled and took some pasta.
Both of them took a bite, but soon started coughing. Vansh handed a glass full of water to both of them, but that didn't stopped them. Both of them were coughing badly, tensing the others. Vansh smelled pasta and immediately gestured something to a servant.
"Pasta had mushrooms Siya. You should check it first.", He yelled at Siya, who widened her eyes at her mistake.
Soon the servant gave a syrup to Vansh who made Riva drink that. Riva stopped coughing after drinking that, but Riddhima was still coughing badly. Continuous coughing had increased her breathing rate and she was panting heavily. Vansh was panicking after seeing her in this state. He didn't know what to do.
He gave the syrup to Riddhima too, who also stopped coughing immediately. Vansh was astonished at this. Since the anti allergic syrup was for Riva, prescribed for her allergy from mushrooms.
"Riddhima, you fine?", Anupriya was the first to ask.
Riddhima nodded while drinking water.
"Are you too allergic to mushrooms?", Vansh asked and she nodded again.
"Same pinch, Dr Ma", Riva giggled making Riddhima smile. Everyone else too smile at them, while Vansh was puzzled at their similarities. This was the third similarity he had witnessed so far.
After finishing their meal everyone went to their rooms. Riddhima too went inside her room. She opened her closet, searching for her night dress. While searching she came across a photo.
Riddhima's POV
I was searching my night suit when her photo came in front of eyes. I smiled weakly at her picture. How happy she was looking with her husband and her new born.
My bestie, Vani. Vani was my childhood friend. We both were very close, we had completed our school together and then were separated. She chose art as her career while I chose medical. She was good in painting. She had many times drawn my sketches, I still had them.
But she died.. and I..I couldn't do anything.
Vani married her boyfriend Rishi soon after I became doctor. I even went to their wedding. They both looked so happy together. I congratulated them and gave them gifts. During her vidai, I even threatened Rishi. But he took care of my Vani, properly.
But they both were not able to conceive even after certain years of marriage. Vani was depressed with this and was blaming herself. Rishi too was stressed because of Vani's health. I couldn't see my best friend being depressed so I suggested IVF.
Both of them after thinking wisely agreed. Both of them were having problems. Rishi lacked sperms and Vani couldn't release eggs. Rishi asked for help from his best friend and Vani from me. Someone donated sperm for Rishi and I donated my egg for Vani.
And the surgery was successful. Vani was pregnant! Rishi was on cloud nine. I remember, we three had partied hard till late that day. We danced together, we laughed together, thinking about the names for her baby.
"How is Riva?", I asked her and they both looked at me amazed.
I explained it's amalgamation of their names and they smiled through their tears.
"Riva, if girl and Rivan if boy, what say?", Rishi suggested and we both clapped in agreement.
I could never forget those moments. But everything changed. They died. I still remember that sinister day. It was Riva's first birthday, my baby doll. I use to call her baby doll and she use to smile widely at that.
Vani invited me at her mansion and told me Rishi's best friend who helped them is also arriving. I was excited to meet him. But I got an important surgery that day. I apologized and went to hospital, where I got the fatal news.. Vani and Rishi died in an accident while driving towards Airport.
I cried, but I couldn't go, I had patients. I finished my work and rushed towards their house, only to find them being cremated. Servants gave Vani's belongings to me. I was so numb to ask anything. All the time Vani was revolving in my mind. I asked about Riva from some relatives. And was shocked to hear their answers.
"God knows about that child. She was just a burden, look how her parents died. She should be sent to orphanage."
I was annoyed and wanted to punch them. I asked servants about her and got to know she was sent away.. That broke me more. Rishi and Vani had dreamt a lot about her. They wanted Riva to do something big, they wanted her to become like me. They wanted me to be her godmother. That day I didn't just lost my best friend but my little baby doll too.
And thus when I found Vansh's daughter, Riva, I was happy. It was like I found my baby doll again. Vansh is a very noble man. What he has done is very great. Not every person can do the same, sacrificing own life for a friend, that's seriously a noble deed. I respected him earlier for his behavior towards me, but now he has earned a special place in my heart.
Author's pov
Riddhima wiped her tears and went out. She can't take this more. She moved towards yard for fresh air and found Vansh standing there.
"Don't want to sleep?", she asked.
Vansh turned around and found Riddhima standing behind him. He nodded in negative and continued looking at the sky.
"What about you?", He asked.
"Wasn't able to sleep", Riddhima said while staring the night sky.
"Why you named her Riva?", Riddhima finally asked the question which was troubling her a lot.
Vansh furrowed his brows and stared Riddhima. He didn't knew she too was thinking about Riva. He sighed.
"Rishi told me. Someone suggested him, this name.", He said.
"Rishi?", Riddhima asked while looking at his eyes.
"My best friend.. Rishi Goenka.. oh now I got, this name is amalgamation of their names.. Rishi and...", Vansh was about to speak but was interrupted by Riddhima.
"Vani!", She shouted in shock.
"Yes..how do you know?", Vansh wriggled his brows at dumbstruck Riddhima.
Riddhima took out her phone and showed Vansh a photo.
"Is this Rishi's wife Vani?", She asked while gulping.
"Yes.. do you know her?", Vansh asked astonishingly.
"Oh god! Vani was my best friend.", Riddhima shouted and Vansh's eyes bulged out.
