2. Kasamatsu Yukio: Ricochet

2.  Kasamatsu Yukio: Ricochet

{Zombie Apocalypse AU}

In the beginning, it was you, the Kaijo basketball team, the Shūtoku basketball team, Yosen’s basketball team, and Kasamatsu’s younger sister, Atsuko.

A year later, it was you, Kasamatsu, Kise, Midorima, Miyaji, Takao, Murasakibara, Himuro, Masako, Okamura, Liu, Moriyama, and Atsuko.

Two years later, just yesterday, it was down to just you, Kasamatsu, Kise, Midorima, Takao, Murasakibara, Himuro, Masako, Okamura, and Moriyama.

Camp was set up in a valley, bordered by steep hills that took almost a week to get out of by walking. There was also a river, but no one would think of blindly riding a raft into what looked like mountains. The group was traveling to what was supposed to be a refugee camp on the other side and it was a daunting task.

Kise and your boyfriend, Kasamatsu, came back from their hunting trip last night. Kasamatsu barely acknowledged you before retiring to bed. You understood that he was tired and watched him sadly as he went to rinse off in the river. Kise put his hand on your shoulder and led you off, his optimistic mask slipping off when you were away from the others outside of camp.

“(Y/N)cchi, Senpai isn’t right in the head.” He stated. The seriousness in his eyes gave you goosebumps.

“His sister died, Kise. He needs recovery time.” You insisted, folding your arms. You swallowed the bile in your throat; you could practically hear her screams for help and cries of terror. “You know he blames himself for what happened to Atsuko.”

Kise sighed and leaned against a tree. “When we were hunting today, we came across a Biter. It was stuck under a fallen tree, missing an arm and we wouldn’t have seen it until it groaned. Kasamatsu-senpai just lost it. He attacked it and beat it until it was mush.”

“Oh,” you whispered.

You had a clear image of him destroying the Biter. His sharp features would be twisted in fury as he growled through clenched teeth. He would lift his axe into the air, his muscles bulging as he hacked at the Biter and crying out in frustration. Tears would be in his eyes as he cursed at it and fell to his knees when he was done, Kise would’ve been standing a few feet away with wide, terrified eyes. Kasamatsu would’ve taken a shaky breath then threaten Kise not to tell anyone about it and continue on the hunting trip.

“You need to talk to him. He’s losing it.” Kise pleaded worriedly. “He can’t become crazy like how Takeuchi-sensei was.”

Takeuchi was left in the beginning because he tried to kill Midorima when he wouldn’t go near his bitten wife.

“I will, I will,” you said, running a hand through your hair. “Go wash up. Moriyama and Himuro are making lunch right now.”

Kise nodded and hesitantly left you. You walked around aimlessly with your arms wrapped around yourself as you thought of how to talk to Kasamatsu, shivering from the icy early spring air. Warm arms wrapped around your waist and you sunk against the familiar chest, cuddling into him before turning around and greeting him with a kiss.

“I’m sorry for brushing you off so coldly earlier.” Kasamatsu apologized, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear.

You cupped his cheek, smiling when he leaned into your hand and shut his eyes. “It’s fine, Yukio. No one can blame you for being tired.” It’s now or never. “Kise was telling me about the hunting trip. Are you okay?”

He stiffened and furrowed his eyebrows. “I told that idiot to keep his mouth shut.”

“Do you want to talk about it?” You asked softly.

Kasamatsu’s eyes narrowed and he pulled away from your embrace with a clenched jaw. “No.”

Your gaze softened and you followed him as he stalked towards the river. “I’m just worried about you. We’re all worried about you. Ever since that attack, you haven’t been the same. Atsuko would’ve wanted you to continue being strong and to–“

“HOW do YOU know what she wanted?!” Kasamatsu shouted at you. Pure rage burned in his eyes and his veins began to stick out of his neck as he pointed accusingly at you. “Tell me, (Y/N), how you know so much about my dead little sister than me!”

You flinched back, startled at his harsh words. “Calm down! I never said that I know more about her than you do. I’m not the bad guy–”

“That’s because I’m the bad guy, aren’t I? Everyone thinks that I’m going to go crazy like Takeuchi because I’m sad that my sister died. Isn’t it normal to get depressed over that?” He ranted, nasty venom lacing every syllable.

“It would be worrying if you didn’t get sad, but everyone’s here to help you like you help everybody else. Moriyama, Kise, me!” You raised your voice to match his, your own frustration beginning to fuel your anger.

“You wouldn’t understand!” He yelled back.

“I watched my parents get eaten alive right in front of me. What makes you think I wouldn’t understand?”

“You weren’t supposed to save them!”

“They sacrificed themselves to save me! I feel guilty too, Yukio!”

Both of you continued to scream at each other, unaware of the Biters lurking in the area dragging themselves towards the noise. The possibility of attracting them didn’t register in yours or Kasamatsu’s minds as you saw red and felt nothing but accusations being shot back and forth. Kise, who heard the arguing, gasped when he saw a Biter creeping up from behind you and ran quicker than he ever had before and tackled it.

“KISE!” You shouted, snapping out of the fight.

You jumped as a bullet followed by a loud bang planted itself in the monster’s skull. Kasamatsu emotionlessly helped Kise to his feet and you were yelped as you were pulled back onto the ground. You cursed as a Biter hung onto your shoe and tried to bite your leg and furiously kicked its face, disgusted by the ooze dripping out with every blow.

“We need to go!” You stated the obvious. You scrambled backwards, wondering where the heck your knife went.

The three of you sprinted as fast as you could, Kise and Kasamatsu shooting the oncoming Biters. A hoard the men didn’t see before were coming out of the woods, drawn to the gunfire blaring around you. Not too long after Kise ran out of bullets and Kasamatsu moments later.

A group of Biters made you change direction since they were standing on the main path to the camp. Kasamatsu grabbed your hand and you held onto Kise’s jacket with your other hand as you ran. A small wooden shack could be seen in the distant.

The ditch was a surprise.

The three of you cried out in surprise as you tumbled into the ditch, whimpering when you came to a stop. Your ankle throbbed, yet that was the least of your problems. Disfigured Biters were laying at the bottom with you, the one closest to you making you freeze.

Once familiar apologetic brown eyes glared at you with a ravenous hunger. Instead of squeaking apologies at you, he groaned and wriggled himself over to you due to his lack of legs. He grabbed onto your leg, but you couldn’t shake him off due to your shock.

Sakurai Ryō, your best friend ever, was a Biter.

“(Y/N)CCHI!”

A blur of yellow threw himself at Sakurai, rolling off a ledge deeper into the ditch. He started screeching in pain after he landed, the horrible sound of flesh being torn haunting you forever more. You couldn’t process everything as Kasamatsu dragged you out and threw you into the shack and barricaded the doors.

Unable to think straight, you stared at the doors in a daze and whispered, “Kise… Kise… Kise…”

Kasamatsu paced back and forth and cried freely, you joining him once your adrenaline died down. You sobbed disgustingly, rocking back and forth as you replayed Kise’s death. Your boyfriend wrapped himself around you and you clutched onto him, trying to drown your cries in his t-shirt.

For hours on end, the two of you cried before collapsing of exhaustion.

                                                                           *\(^o^)/*

“I’m sorry for yelling at you.” Kasamatsu murmured.

The two of you faced each other as you lied on the shack’s dirty floor, your foreheads touching and limbs intertwined. You closed your eyes and leaned your head against his chest, trying to absorb his heat like the night before.

“It’s fine, Yukio,” you repeated, the words seeming so much more different from when you said them before.

Kasamatsu buried his face into your hair and pulled you closer. For all he knew, it could be the last time he could hold you. The thought made him tighten his grip on you and he kissed your head.

You were right. Mourning Atsuko wasn’t the purpose of his life. Kise showed him how someone he loved could be taken away from him not just once, but twice.

Kasamatsu silently promised he would do everything he could to protect you. He would sacrifice himself in a heartbeat to save you.

After all, you were the only thing he was living for anymore.
