1. Midorima Shintarou: Attention Span
1. Midorima Shintarou: Attention Span
You never considered yourself a clingy person. Well, that was before your best friend - and crush - began to spend more time reading his book than talking to you.
Midorima was glued to a book series about who knows what (he always put book covers on them) and always had it in one hand with his lucky item in the other. You were not so subtly glaring at the book he held as you ate your sandwich. Your gaze flickered to his lucky item - a chocolate bar that Takao tried to eat earlier - then to yours, a stuffed snowman. Ever since you met Midorima in elementary school, he told you about Oha-Asa and brought you your lucky item every day.
You looked back at his face and held back a dreamy sigh. His shiny green hair was neatly trimmed, ending above his strong jawline. Those thin, pink lips that you swore were petals that fell off of a cherry blossom and placed themselves on his mouth when he was born were in a straight line. Eyebrows with better game than yours were slightly furrowed in thought. Those glasses sat on top of his straight nose, blocking a clear view of his emerald hues framed by long, dark lashes by a crystalline barrier.
Midorima's eyes flickered up and narrowed, a pink blush covering his otherwise pale cheekbones. "Why are you staring at me, nanodayo?"
"I'm not staring," you grumbled.
You put the remains of your sandwich back in your lunch bag and grabbed your bottle of juice. You gritted your teeth as you tried to open the cap, but the stupid thing wouldn't budge. Your irritation was beginning to peak to where you wanted to throw your drink out of the window but a bandaged hand grabbed the bottle away from you. Midorima opened it with ease and handed it back to you with an indifferent face.
"Whatever," you snorted. "I loosened it, anyways. You just happened to get it at the right moment."
Midorima rolled his eyes and picked his book back. No! You just had his attention and you wasted it! Operation: Get the Megane's Attention Back GO!
"So what are your plans for today since practice is cancelled?" You questioned quickly. A stomach flu was going around school and most of the basketball team had it so the coach called off practice for the rest of the week in hopes it'll clear up.
The bait worked! Midorima sighed and pushed his glasses back and sat down the book and fully turned towards you. "I have to babysit my neighbor's cat since she's vacationing in Guam for three weeks. We've had it for a day and it hates me, nanodayo."
You fought back a giggle, knowing perfectly well that the greenette had a terrible history with the cuddly felines. "I'm sure it doesn't hate you, I mean-"
"This morning I bent down to get my shoes and it scratched my arm." Midorima stated in a huffy tone. "My parents are taking my sister out to dinner with her friend's parents so I have to stay home and watch it."
"I can help you," you offered immediately. "I love cats!"
Midorima frowned. "You won't love this one, nanodayo. It's provoked by the smallest things and will probably hurt you."
You rolled your eyes. "What's the worst that could happen?"
*\(^o^)/*
Shiro was the cat's name, and he was absolutely lovely. Ten minutes after your arrival Shiro slunk out of a room and you tackled him with a high pitched squeal. Soon enough he was sleeping in your arms and Midorima just muttered something about (Z/S) being ranked first today. He was fat and fluffy with white gorgeously soft, long hair that was extremely pleasant to pet. His eyes were a golden amber and a steady purr similar to a motor engine rumbled in his throat. You nuzzled your face against the feline and proceeded to snuggle him on the couch with a disgruntled Midorima beside you.
Even if you had an adorable kitty cat on your lap, it still bothered you that Midorima picked reading his book over talking to you. One would think someone who was hosting a guest would at least say something. You cleared your throat and he glanced in your direction.
"What's that book about?" You questioned, nodding your head towards it. "All you've ever said about it is that it was part of the series you were reading."
Midorima shifted his eyes - you knew immediately he was lying. "It's about human psychology, nanodayo. I found it online and it's interesting to me."
"Okay," you said. Liar. "Ne, Shin-kun, can you get me a glass of water, please? I would get it myself but I don't want to wake up Shiro."
"Fine," he sighed. As he was walking away you swore you heard him mutter, "So now the cat's comfortableness is more important than my own..."
You watched until he was out of site and leaned over and grabbed the book. Shifting Shiro onto the couch so he wouldn't be too disturbed, you slid off the book cover and blinked. A Guide to Females: Part Three - Types of Women by Whodaho Idaho. You furrowed your eyebrows and flipped to the page Midorima was on and began to scan the text.
THE CHILDHOOD FRIEND
If you like your childhood friend, chances are that you, good sir, are friend-zoned. However, there is yet hope for you! She knows you thoroughly already so she'll notice you making moves on her (depending on her observations). Don't be so upfront about it at first because she might not feel the same way and it'll ruin your relationship. Start with small gestures like giving her everyday gifts or complimenting her if she does something new with her appearance or such. Chances are that if she likes you back, you'll notice her changing when you start to flirt with her, so-
"(Y/N)-chan, what are you doing, nanodayo?"
You jumped and snapped your head up to where Midorima was scowling at you with a glass of water in his hand. Shiro let out a hiss and fled the room and you cursed the cat for leaving you in a crisis. Gulping, you hid the book behind your back but you knew your attempts were fruitless. The Point Shooter set down the drink and let out a deep exhale through his nose and held his hand out.
"Give me the book." He ordered.
You tightened your grip on it and slid it under your shirt so it was lying against your back. "No." You held up your hands and wiggled your fingers. "See? I don't even have it."
He rolled his eyes. "I watched you put it up your shirt. Just give me the book."
"I don't know what you're talking about." You smirked, crossing your arms over your chest. So this was why Takao always caused mischief to get his attention.
Midorima leaned forwards towards you and held out his hand. "(L/N) (F/N), give me the book."
"Nope." You popped your 'p' extra loudly.
You were sure he was going to give up until his arms shot around your waist and he began to pat your back up and down. His face was inches away from yours but he was focused on retrieving his book so he didn't notice your wide (E/C) eyes or flushed (S/C) skin. His fingers curled around the book's figure and he began to pull it downwards and you jerked back against couch away from him. Twin gasps escaped you and your attacker as Midorima lost his footing and he crashed face first into your chest. He immediately unraveled his arms from you and retreated back in a flash, his face scarlet and glasses askew as he stumbled and spluttered over his words.
"I-I'm sorry!" He apologized as he squeezed his eyelids shut and tightly crossed his arms. "I-I-I didn't mean for it to go that far, nanodayo."
"It's fine, it's fine, it's fine!" You squeaked.
You covered your blushing face with your hands, not believing that just actually happened. Maybe this was a bad dream and you were just having crazy thoughts. There was no way Midorima Shintarou just face-planted into your breasts. No way.
Reluctantly, you took the book out of your shirt and handed it to the basketball player. "Um, here's your book. But why do you have it?"
He shifted from foot to foot as he stared at the cover of it before shyly meeting your eyes. "I bought this book because girls confuse me, nandayo. The only girl I know is my little sister and the others don't help me much because they're all stupid, especially Kise-san and Aomine-san. By reading this I thought that it would help me."
"Help you what?" You paused with a gasp and jumped to your feet and stood on your tiptoes with your hands braced on his shoulders with curiosity burning brightly in you. "Do you have a crush, Shin-kun? You have a crush and you didn't tell me? Did you tell Takao? I can't believe we've been friends all this time and you can't trust me enough to tell me who you like-"
"I like you, nanodayo!" Midorima blurted. You stared wide-eyed at him as he shut his eyelids again and continued. "You saw in my book that I was reading a specific section that's supposed to help with confessing to your childhood friend. That book series was supposed to give me an insight on what you're like, but it just confuses me more."
"It's okay, I like you, too, Shin-kun." You murmured with a soft smile gracing your face.
Midorima blinked, staring at you incredulously. "You do?"
It was your turn to look away in embarrassment as you let your feelings out. "Yes, I do. It started in middle school, I think, when you always helped me study in science. I started to see you less as a brother figure and more of a, you know, boyfriend-ish kind of guy. I know this sounds weird and-"
You were cut off by his lips on yours. It took you a moment to process it before you responded and sunk against him. His lips were as soft as you thought they were and it made you feel like your soul was leaving your body and floating up to heaven. That feeling ended when he parted from you and let out a tiny scoff.
"I did that so you would be quiet, nanodayo." He grumbled.
"Whatever you say," you giggled. You pressed your cheek against his chest as you hugged him and smiled when he pulled you closer to him. "I love you, Shin-kun~"
He stiffened before quietly responding back, "I love you, too, (Y/N)-chan."
