Chapter 7: The Sports Festival Part 1
hey guys!!! wow it's time for the Sports Festival already? i plan on splitting it up into 3 different chapters because that should be easier for you guys to read right? i hope you enjoy, i've been working really hard on this book and there's still a lot more that I want to do with it... so stick around! thanks <3 peachy
The past 2 weeks of training have gone by so fast; everyone has been busy training for the Sports Festival. I had been focusing on my power and speed, as well as working on a new move. I was training at a private beach that my family owned. I had just finished a run on the shore line and I cracked my knuckles ready to utilize my last day of training to the fullest. "Today's the day that I get it right! It has to be today or else everything was in vain..."
I lowered the pressure, making sure that I only affect the area with the 20 kilometer radius. "Lower... Lower... C'mon, not much more should be needed!" I gritted my teeth and lowered the pressure just a bit more. Clouds began to condensate in the sky. Thunder boomed in the distance and the waves got rougher as wind speeds picked up. "Alright!" I cried out, pumping a fist into the air. My pigtails whipped around in the wind, blowing pink hair into my face.
After a few more minutes, rain began to fall and it was beautiful. I had done it; now not only could I control temperature, wind, and my movement in the air, but I have mastered weather control too. "This is gonna be great for the Sports Festival! I have to get first place now!"
It was finally time for the festival to begin. Class 1-A waited nervously in our designated room, each of us wearing our gym uniforms. Apparently it was to keep things fair between the classes, which made sense, even though I had a feeling that the winners would be from the hero course.
I wrung my hands out while waiting for the first event to start; tensions were running high. Todoroki had already made the mood extremely serious from his "declaration of war" to Midoriya. Kirishima had tried to stop them from getting too negative, but it was only a little talk. Still I found it sweet that he was always trying to get everyone to be friends.
It was time to leave; I was nervously talking to Ochako-chan as we left. When we entered the stadium, I felt my heart leap into my throat. Thousands and thousands of people cheered from their seats and I knew that the pros were somewhere in that mix. "I thought that we were supposed to have the smallest crowd... Nobody cares about the first years." I mumbled to Tsu-chan. "It's because we fought those villains. Everyone wants to see what we can do now... It probably also has some stuff to do with All Might being our teacher too."
"You don't say..." I shrank down I bit, wishing that all these people were in a different arena. Tsu-chan chuckled at my shyness and pulled me back into proper posture. "C'mon now Miku! Pro heroes are watching!"
"WOW thanks because now that I know my role models are probably watching me, I feel so much better." This only caused her to laugh harder, but I didn't see what was so funny.
I shuffled anxiously as all the other U.A. classes filed onto the field. Ms. Midnight introduced Bakugo for the athlete's oath; I could practically hear the entire class suck in their breath. We all knew that he was about to say something that would get us nothing but more enemies.
"I pledge..." Bakugo took a deep breath before leaning in close to the microphone. "To take indisputable first place!" As soon as the words had left his lips the other classes began booing and jeering, not to mention giving us dirty glares in between. "Way to go Bakugo! Now everyone wants to kill us even more than before..."
However, when I saw the determined look on his face, I knew that he really meant what he had said. Without missing a beat, Ms. Midnight pointed to a large board behind her. "Let's introduce the first event of this year's festival! These are the qualifiers, so give it your all!" The board began to flash, the words Obstacle Course Race on the screen. "An Obstacle Course Race! And with all 11 classes pitted against each other, you better run fast! Remember anything goes as long as you stay on the course. It's 4 kilometers around the stadium, now get to your marks! Ready... Set... GO!" Ms. Midnight waved her whip and everyone sprinted toward the exit.
I jumped into the air, flying above everyone else to avoid the crowd. I watched as people pushed and pulled at one another; the entrance was purposefully narrow. I was about to land when I heard the sound of ice crystallizing. "Todoroki!" I jumped off of the ground just in time to see the ice slide under my feet, covering the pathway. I saw the half-and-half boy run ahead of me, a look of complete control on his face. "Maybe I should just keep flying... I've gotten to the point where it shouldn't take too much of my energy."
I decided to stay in the air, flying near the ground because it used less energy. I saw some of my classmates close behind me, but I managed to stay near the front. After only a couple more meters, I stopped; the 0-point robots from the exam were looming over me. "Please this is simple..." I was about to fly over them when I saw Todoroki freeze one. It was balanced in a precarious way as he ran under it. "Wait... It's about to fall!"
I quickly backed away when I saw Kirishima try and run under it. "No! Kirishima don't!" I yelled at him, but he was already too far to stop. The robot creaked as it pitched forward. "Kirishima!" I screamed and flew toward the robot, landing on top of it. I heard someone banging on the metal from underneath, when suddenly the top plating of the robot broke open.
"Miku?" Kirishima looked at me quizzically, but I tackled him in a quick hug. "Never do that again idiot!" I lightly flicked his forehead which was still all jagged from his Quirk. He gave me a sheepish smile. "But I'm fine... My Quirk is perfect for stuff like this!" I was already back in the air as he started to run. "Yeah, I guess you're right! See you at the finish line!" I let myself fall from the sky, gaining some serious distance as I fell. Right before I hit the ground, though, I sent a small breeze to cushion my fall.
I continued to run until I was met with a network of ropes and large caverns. I could see Todoroki and Bakugo up ahead, along with Iida and a couple others. "Okie Chiho, you got this!" I sprinted toward the cliffs and jumped off. I heard a couple people gasp, but I quickly flew to one of the rock posts that connected some of the ropes. I continued flying between them, careful that I did not expend my Quirk too much.
I quickly made it to the other side; I was still ahead of most people. After running for a bit longer, I found myself at a mine field. I saw Todoroki and Bakugo battling it out for first place and I decided to take the opportunity. I quickly flew over the area until I saw someone take a misstep, sending an awfully loud explosion my way. It blew me out of the sky and back onto the ground; I quickly adjusted my footing so that I wouldn't hit any bombs. "Crap... As long as people are being careless, I can't just fly over."
I tried flying again, but this time keeping myself close to the ground. I was almost running in the air, pausing to push off from the ground a couple times. I was able to dodge explosions much easier this way, but it was still faster than running. A loud noise rang out behind me, almost startling me enough to land on a mine. However, I quickly regained my footing and I looked behind to see Midoriya flying over the field. He soon passed Bakugo and Todoroki, making the battle a three person one.
"Focus Chiho! You have to go faster! Faster!!!" I threw caution to the wind and began flying at top speed. I didn't want them to count me out! I set off multiple mines by simply knocking some debris out of place, but I was going too fast for them to catch me in their blasts. I could see the finish line and I landed myself on the ground once I was clear from the mine field. Going so fast had made me dizzy and lightheaded, but I still sprinted for the finish line. I knew that there had to be people on my tail, so I didn't slow down for second.
People cheered as I entered the stadium yet again. I looked around to see who else had finished; only Midoriya, Todoroki, and Bakugo were here. Which means... "I GOT FOURTH PLACE?! That's not too shabby eh?!"
I savored my small victory; it may not seem that great, but out of all the strong competitors that were racing, I was proud to claim this spot. I caught my breath as my other friends finished; Iida came in with a scowl on his face, which made me not want go over and talk to him. So, instead I just sat down on the grass and watched more people come in.
Kirishima came barreling in, racing against a man that looked to be made out of metal. Kirishima came in just before his competitor, but he still looked disappointed. "Kiri!" I shouted to him and waved, too tired to leave the ground. He smiled at me as I flopped down on my back. "What are you doing?" he asked, holding back a chuckle.
I just smiled and stretched on the warm grass. The sun warmed my body, making me feel sleepy. "Resting until everyone else gets here. The sun feels so yummy..."
"It feels yummy?" Kirishima laughed again and laid down next to me. "How can the sun feel yummy?" I closed my eyes, enjoying the scent of fresh air. "It just does," A couple more of our friends came to lay with us, and honestly who could blame them? We were all wiped, but the next event was about to start.
I heard cameras flashing and I sat up to see what the commotion was about. The marketing class had been taking pictures of me! "Hey, what are you guys doing?" I sleepily rubbed my eye as I walked over to them. "Keep taking pictures! This is great material!" One of them waved his arms wildly and pointed to me as I subconsciously twirled my pigtail. "No more please..."
"But this is a great way to build your brand! You fit into the category of 'adorable hero' perfectly! All of these pictures will gain you so much fan support!" The student had a certain passion in his eyes, causing stars to practically fly out of them. I tilted my head to the side, only to have the cameras go off again. "Ahh!" I shyly hid my face and ran away back to my friends.
"Did you get that?! Tell me that you did!" I could still hear the marketing class as I retreated back to my friends. "What were they doing?" Ochako-chan asked while wiping some sweat off of her cheek. My face turned pink and I began to wave my hands around wildly. "Nothing! It was nothing!"
Luckily, I was saved from having to explain by the sound of Ms. Midnight's voice. "Come on guys! Lets see what's in store for round two!" We walked back toward the board, my eyes glued to the screen while sweat dripped down my face. Round 2 was about to start...
