Chapter 5: USJ
I had begun to settle into the routine of my new fast paced mornings. I'd wake up, quickly get ready, grab some kind of minimal breakfast, and run down the stairs to meet up with Kirishima. As usual he was hanging out in the lobby, scrolling through his phone, waiting for me to show up. As I walked toward him a subconscious smile grew across my face; his bright red hair was spiky like always and his uniform just a little messy. He shot me a smile brighter than the sun when he saw me and my cheeks flushed a little. I looked down at my shoes shyly before reaching out to straighten his tie.
"Huh?" He watched me as I fixed his collar too. "You're a mess this morning," I shook my head. "Did you wake up late?"
"Nah I just wanted to get here fast... Plus you're probably better at this stuff than I am. We should do this every morning!" Kirishima laughed heartily, but his words seemed genuine which gave me the courage to take the offer. "If that's what you want... I'll show you my room after school and you can come up instead of having to stay here in the lobby." His eyes widened a bit, but they held my gaze. "Yeah, that'd be great..."
"Okie then it's settled! We should hurry, I'd rather not face the wrath of Aizawa Sensei when we're late." I giggled nervously, fully knowing how terrifying my teacher could be. "Agreed, let's go!"
Despite leaving later than usual, Kirishima and I still got to school with plenty of time to spare. Morning classes flashed by until we ended up in Hero Training class, my personal favorite. I hung out with Ochako-chan, Midoriya and Iida because I didn't have the patience to deal with Kaminari and Bakugo's fighting today. Also, Ochako-chan had been wanting to hang out more and talking with them was a nice change of pace. "I still can't believe how obsessed the media is with getting an interview with All Might! I mean, they literally broke into the school and had to be escorted off campus grounds..." I shook my head while reminiscing about the recent event.
"Yes, it was most disturbing!" Iida whipped his hand up and began chopping the air to further show his agitation. "I got some pretty nasty bruises too..." Ochako-chan rubbed her sides and I nodded in agreement. "But this is All Might guys! We shouldn't be that surprised!" Midoriya loyally stuck up for his hero. I glanced away, biting my lip to prevent myself from saying something that I might regret. I loved All Might of course, but part of me thought that he had too much media presence and was a little egotistical. I much preferred a quiet hero who got the job done without much flash, like Edge Shot.
I heard the door open with a certain quickness that could only belong to Aizawa Sensei; everyone dashed to get seated, not wanting to evoke our teacher's wrath. The class waited patiently for him to explain our plans for today and I was honestly expecting more on hero history or regulations. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that we would be doing some hero training instead.
"Alright everybody grab your costumes if you want them and change quickly. It would be irrational to waste time, especially since we have to drive to the training location." After Aizawa Sensei finished his small speech we all scrambled to get our things and head to the changing room.
I changed as fast as I could, excited to see the training facility. "Ochako-chan aren't you excited! I heard that we might be able to train with some of the teachers too!" I glanced over at her while lacing up my tall boots. "Yeah-" Ochako-chan's head popped out once she had finished tugging her bodysuit on. "I'm looking forward to trying out the rescue training rather than the normal combat type stuff."
"Same here, I mean, we became heroes to rescue people right?" Ochako-chan's eyes averted my gaze for one beat before she sent me a beaming smile. "For sure!"
We all filed onto the bus and as we began to sit down, I felt bad for poor Iida. He had worked so hard on getting us into a simple and efficient seating arrangement, only to have it ruined by the bus's "freestyle" seating. But, I was secretly glad about this because it meant that I got to sit next to Tsu-chan and Kirishima.
"Oh wow, he looks so good in his costume..." This had always been a fact in my mind, but today served as a reminder on just how revealing his costume could be. "Like I'm one to talk! My costume's really skimpy too..." I tugged on the ends of my skirt slightly. Everyone began talking, the bus becoming filled with different conversations. I was about to start talking with Kirishima when I heard Tsu-chan say something that caught my attention. "Midoriya, your Quirk resembles All Might's."
I watched him shake his head and wave his arms, obviously flustered that Tsu-chan had compared him to his hero. However, I couldn't deny that this thought had crossed my mind before. "Hold up Tsuyu. All Might doesn't get hurt, though. That's a major difference." Kirishima pointed out before activating his own Quirk. "Even so, I bet having a simple strength enhancing Quirk is awesome. It would really grab people's attention. My Hardening is really strong, but it isn't very flashy." He frowned a little at his sturdy arm.
"What are you talking about Kirishima?! You're Quirk is amazing and really strong. It shouldn't matter that it's not very flashy because your personality more than makes up for it! I don't know anyone else who's manly enough for your Quirk..." I suddenly felt slightly embarrassed by all the eyes that were on me, especially Kirishima's. "Great! Now everyone is going to think that I have a crush on him or something..."
"Miku's right!" Midoriya came to my rescue, agreeing with everything that I had just said. Kirishima smiled at his feet, a red color washing over his ears and cheeks. The conversation continued, but throughout the rest of the ride, Kirishima was unusually quiet.
After a few more minutes, we had arrived at the USJ where our rescue training would commence. Practically overflowing with anticipation I ran off the bus, but before I could go in I felt a hand grab mine. I turned to see Kirishima, his face confused and almost a little scared.
Kirishima, what's wrong?" I came closer to him, worried about what he could be thinking; this wasn't the same smiley person that I was used to. I felt the placement of his hands change and before I could comprehend what was happening, I had been pulled into a tight hug. "Ki-Kirishima?"
"Did you really mean it?" His voice was hushed, barely above a whisper. "Did I really mean what?" I could feel how tense his body was, so I began to rub his shoulders while he embraced me. "What you said about me and my Quirk... Did you really mean that?"
"Of course I did Kiri..." I leaned against his chest, immensely glad that he was okay. Kirishima tightened the hug just a little bit before letting go. He gave me his big sharp-toothed grin. "Then I'll try my best to become the hero that you think I can be!" He grabbed my hand again, but this time it was to lead me to the USJ. I blushed a little, finding it adorable how he wanted to lead me there.
When we entered the Unforeseen Simulation Joint, I couldn't help but gasp; the place was filled with tons of different environments in which we could train on. And standing right in front of it all was the Space Hero Thirteen. I tried to keep my composure at the sight of such a powerful hero, but it was hard. He began talking to us about Quirks and how they are very dangerous. I hung on to his every word and when he finished I was clapping almost as hard as Iida.
"Great. First off..." Aizawa Sensei began talking but immediately stopped when looked over the railing. "Huddle up and don't move! Thirteen! Protect the students!" I felt my body stiffen when I caught sight of them; swarming masses of villains poured into the USJ from a ominous black portal. "What the heck's that?! More robots? Like the entrance exam?" Kirishima stepped forward, trying to get a better look at them, but I quickly pulled him back.
"Don't move!" Aizawa Sensei shouted. "Those are villains!" I tightened my grip on Kirishima's arm when Aizawa Sensei had said that. "I thought so but... No this can't be happening."
I chewed on my bottom lip, ashamed of how scared I was. I felt Kirishima pull my hand from off of his arm and instead intertwined his fingers through mine. "Hey, don't worry... It'll be okay, I promise." Kirishima leaned down, his whispers tickling my ear. My grip on his hand strengthened a bit, but I was able to give him a shaky smile.
A man of smoke had been talking to Aizawa Sensei, but I couldn't make out his words. "Where is he...?" A man covered with hands growled. "We've come all this way. And brought so many playmates... All Might... The Symbol of Peace... Is he here...?" He glanced over to us and an evil smirk came across his face. "I wonder if some dead kids will bring him here?" My eyes widened when he said this and Kirishima pulled me closer to him.
The situation seemed to be getting worse by the second. The alarms weren't working because of one of the villains had disabled it with their Quirk, so the school had no idea what was going on. However, Aizawa Sensei kept a level head and began giving orders. "Thirteen, commence an evacuation! Kaminari try to contact the school using your Quirk!" After that he began running for the ledge, ready to jump into the small army of evil. "But Sensei! Your Quirk isn't suited for large fights! You're much better at sneak attacks... You can't nullify all of their Quirks at once!" Midoriya tried to stop him, but Aizawa Sensei ignored him.
"No good hero is a one-trick pony." And with that, he left for the masses of villains. "You can do it Sensei!" I broke away from Kirishima to cheer on my teacher. I shouted at the top of my lungs, hoping that it would help in some way. "Miku c'mon!" Kaminari yelled at me and I ran back to my class as we sprinted for the exit.
"I won't allow that." A dark mist appeared in front of us. "Greetings. We are the League of Villains. Forgive our audacity but today we've come here to U.A. high school- this bastion of heroism... To end the life of All Might, the Symbol of Peace." This mist man continued talking, but I was distracted by Kirishima and Bakugo. They had quietly backed away from the group and shifted toward him. "No! Don't go near him!" I wanted so badly to scream at them, tell them to run away, but that would only put them in more danger.
They both lunged at the man in perfect unison and seemed to get a hit on him. "We're gonna end you first! You'll never touch All Might!" Bakugo angrily shouted at the man while Kirishima grit his teeth next to him. "That was close... Yes, students though you may , you are the best of the best." I watched as the mist man began to expand and Thirteen stole the words from out of my mouth. "No, get back! Both of you!"
However it was too late; I felt as mist enveloped my entire body. I saw Kirishima desperately hold his hand out to me, but he was just out of my reach. I strained my hand, forcing it to grab his, but I couldn't and I lost sight of him in the dark mist.
I felt my body tumble out of the sky and crash into the ground. "Ouchie..." I rubbed the back of my head and opened my eyes to the most terrifying sight of my entire life so far; I had landed in the middle of the villain army, the very center of the USJ with no one else around me except enemies. I quickly stood up and got into a fighting position. The villains smiled at me before lunging.
I summoned a gust of wind that sent them flying backwards into one another, but that was only the front line. More kept surging forward like an army of ants and before I knew it, I was starting to feel a little light-headed, a sign that I had been using my Quirk to the extremes. I grabbed the silver strips of fabric on my forearms and let them unravel. They began to float in the air at my command and I used them alongside my Quirk, which helped my defeat another wave of villains.
"Wow, aren't you the tough cookie..." I felt a hand brush against my arm, causing me to jump backwards. I readied my weapon and glared at the culprit. It was the man covered in hands from earlier and he had some grotesque bird creature following him. "Ooo quick reflexes... You're lucky that I didn't just grab your arm." He smiled at me, sending a shiver down my spine.
"Who do you think you are?!" I tried to put power into my voice, but I couldn't tell if it had worked or not. The man just chuckled and reached out to grab me. I quickly dodged and flew into the sky. I sent my ribbons after him, wrapping him tightly. "Please... You know nothing."
He grabbed the bindings and they began to crumble away until both strands were nothing but dust. I felt myself swallow harshly, but I couldn't show any fear. Without missing a beat I pulled out my thin knives and flew towards him. I slashed toward his shoulder but he jumped out of the way. I was about to fly back up into the safety of the sky when a strong hand grabbed my leg and threw me into the ground.
"Ah!" I let out a small scream of pain as my body collided with the cement. It was that awful monster that had pulled me to the ground. My head was dizzy with pain from hitting the floor so hard, but I still glowered at the hand man when he came to look at me. "Oh you look like you still have some fight in you... Let me just break that spirit for you." He grabbed both of my wrists, straddling my body so I couldn't move, and a searing pain exploded from where his hands were. The remains of my ribbons disappeared and I could feel my skin beginning to flake away.
I cried out, screaming and writhing from the pain, however his grip was too tight for me to escape from. I couldn't even activate my Quirk; the pain had completely blocked out everything from my mind. "Somebody help me!!!"
Suddenly I felt his grip release and his weight was thrown from off of my body. Tears flowed down my cheeks as I saw Aizawa Sensei begin to battle the strange villain with that horrible Quirk. I could barely make cohesive thoughts through the pain in my wrists and back, but I still tried to crawl away so I wouldn't get in Aizawa Sensei's way.
I got only a couple meters when my strength completely gave out, leaving me vulnerable on the floor. Villains began to swarm me; I was weak prey after all. I held my hands up to protect my face when I saw a blur of red punch the villain in front of me. "GET AWAY FROM HER!"
I saw Kirishima standing in front of me protectively and a strange feeling of safety washed over me. The pain had become too great to bear, leaving me to sink into unconsciousness.
Kirishima's Point of View
"How... How could I let this happen to her?! I told Miku that it would be okay... No I promised that it would be okay. And now she's on the ground barely breathing. Why can't I be the hero that she said I could be? I have to save her! Maybe then I can become someone, a hero, worthy of her."
Miku's (Reader's) Point of View
I woke up to sharp lights and a massive headache. My whole body was engulfed in pain, however my wrists hurt beyond compare. This sudden shock of pain caused tears to start running down my face, despite my wishes. I let out a small groan as pain coursed through my body. "Oh you're finally awake!" A small old lady walked over from the doorway to the bed that I was laying on. "Recovery Girl!" I let out a small cry, but, despite my excitement to meet such a powerful hero, it still sounded watery. She chuckled a bit and gave me a kindly smile. "Sweet child... You should go back to sleep. You have had quite the long day."
I nodded slightly; sleep sounded wonderful, especially sense the pain was reaching the point of being almost unbearable. I closed my eyes, but before I could drift off to dreamland, all the horrible events from today came flooding back. And at that moment, I realized that I was at the hospital and Kirishima had saved my life.
