Episode 25: Flashback's Payback

Haltmann hired so much more people to work for his company, yet Susie was still the best employee so far. It would be almost impossible for any employees to take her secretary seat. He looked through every single applications and reports of his current and past workers. "Susie..." Haltmann said as he looked through her information and report of what she has done since her first day. "You know, you never told me your last name. Why don't you ever tell me?"

"I'm an orphan, Mr. President," Susie said. "I lost my parents long time ago when I was a baby."

"Oh... sorry about that," Haltmann replied with guilt.

"It's all right, Mr. President," Susie replied. "I don't even remember them. All I remember is, I was found in an orphanage, tested my IQ, realized that I'm smart enough to go to university when I'm ten years old. I got my bachelor's degree when I was fifteen, majoring in engineering. Then I got my master's degree when I turned eighteen. Now, as twenty-four, I got my doctorate degree. And now, I'm not worried about my parents anymore. I'm happy with my life, my intelligence, and the fact that I'm working for you."

"All right..." Haltmann replied. Then he sadly went back into his private room. He quietly sat down and looked at the family picture of his dead wife and daughter. "The two most cherishable women in my life... just disappeared in my life... right in front of my eyes..." His teardrops dropped on the picture frame. "Oh... honey... I'm sorry..."

********

"Yo! Escargoon!" Dedede called from the balcony. "Where you hidin' at?!" Dedede demanded

"Gosh, even though he can read, he still can't get his grammar straight," Escargoon said. "Yes, your majesty! I'm coming!"

"It's about time! Go get meh some tea!" Dedede ordered.

"Yes, your majesty," Escargoon said and got him the tea.

Escargoon never made the tea the way Dedede wanted it to be. "It's lousy!"

"I'll get you a new one," Escargoon said and went to the room to change the temperature of the tea. "I miss my mommy..." Escargoon said as he carried the teacup. "I wonder why he's so grumpy all the time. Did something happen to him when he was a kid? I mean, I never met his parents before, nor he ever talks about them..."

Usually, King Dedede would be reading the monster and robot catalogs, but this time, he was looking at something different. Much different than monster and robot catalogs. It was a photo of two other figures that look like him, holding a baby. "I wonder what kind of people they were..." Dedede said as he looked at the picture. He never got to see his parents even once. "YO! TEA!"

"Here you go sire," Escargoon said. Dedede took a sip. "Go clean my room!"

"Yes, sire," Escargoon replied. When he got out of the balcony, he said to himself, "Looks like the King never saw his parents for a long time after his birth. Is that the reason he's always grumpy? But he never saw anything like that before." He kept walking until Waddle Dees came into his sight. "Waddle Dees, do you anything about the King's past?" He asked.

All Waddle Dees looked at each other and tapped on the spot.

"What about your past?" Escargoon asked.

Waddle Dees looked at each other and shook their heads and hands.

"Good afternoon, sir Escargoon," Waddle Doo greeted.

"Oh Waddle Doo," Escargoon responded. "Do you know anything about the King's past? I think you might know." He asked.

"Uhh... I don't know, sir," Waddle Doo replied.

"What about your past?" Escargoon asked.

"Uhh... I don't know, I was somehow created," Waddle Doo said. "Like the Waddle Dees. They were created by chance also."

"Interesting," Escargoon said. He thought about the conversation he had with Waddle Doo while cleaning up Dedede's living room. "It's really nice knowing about people's past, maybe I should ask Susie if she can give me a machine that can show people's past." Escargoon sneaked out while cleaning and quietly went into the throne room. He connected to Susie.

"Good after- oh, sir Escargoon," Susie responded. "How can I help you?"

"Do you have any machine that can look into other people's past?" Escargoon asked.

"Uh..." Susie said as she thought for a moment. "I don't think I have it at the moment. I believe I need to make one."

"How long will it take?" Escargoon asked.

"Uh... it depends," Susie said. "If I have the parts I need, I may finish in like an hour or two, but if not, it may take about a day or so."

"Well, let me have it anyways," Escargoon said. "And keep this a secret from Dedede!" He begged.

"Bien sûr, sir Escargoon," Susie said. "I won't spill it to Dedede. And just in case if I get it and you have to get your order without Dedede knowing, I'll send you a beeper so that I can send you a signal when I'm done with your order and ready it give it to you."

"Oh, that'd be great!" Escargoon said. So Susie sent over a mini beeper. "Good luck, Susie."

"I won't let you down, sir Escargoon," Susie disconnected.

Escargoon went back to his usual routine of cleaning Dedede's room, serving him food and tea, and giving him a massage. He waited until the beeper went off, hoping that it wouldn't go off when he's near Dedede.

As he was awkwardly walking around the hallway, like how he always does when he's hiding something from Dedede. The beeper started to ring, causing Escargoon to jump. "Oh-ho-ho!" Escargoon yelped and quickly checked his beeper. He quickly turned it off and quietly sneaked into Dedede's throne room. He made sure Dedede was not in the room and went up to his throne to connect to Susie.

"All right, I'm glad it's you, sir Escargoon," Susie said.

"Do you have a machine?" Escargoon asked.

"Yes, sir," she replied. "I also wrote down the instruction, so please read it only to and for yourself." Susie winked as she both showed the mini-gun-looking machine and a paper with instructions on it

"Bring it! Bring it!" Escargoon begged. Susie immediately sent it over to Escargoon. "Oh yes!" He exclaimed happily.

"Enjoy~ Itta bayo~" Susie disconnected.

Escargoon snickered as he carried the machine to his room. "Let's see... just shoot the laser at someone's head and it will bring the memories that faded away, and even the memories that they are not aware of, and the shooter will get a chance to see it. It will take about two minutes to show every important moment of their life," Escargoon. "Let's try with King Dedede first!"

Dedede was taking a nap in a balcony on his beach bench. He quietly shot the laser at him. Dedede woke up as the weird sensation crawled outside of his head, and transferred to the inside of his head. He and Escargoon started to see the image of Dedede's past that he was never aware of.

It showed the time he was a newborn. "Oh! Dear! I did not need to see that!" Escargoon exclaimed with disgust.

"What is going on in my head?!" Dedede wondered loudly. "What is all this?!"

The image continued. His parents were right in front of him. "So he did have his parents before!" Escargoon said the obvious.

"What's that?! That's my mommy and daddy?!" Dedede asked.

"It seems so..." Escargoon said, immediately regretting his decision.

Next showed his parents leaving him when he was five, leaving the other servant to take care of him. "Aww... your majesty..." Escargoon was, or tired to have a little sympathy.

"Hey! I don't remember that!" Dedede said.

"That is the point," Escargoon said.

"What did you do to me, ya googled-eye?!" Dedede asked, which sounded angry but it is his usual voice.

"It's a secret~," Escargoon said in a singsong voice.

"Get this outta ma head!" Dedede said.

Then the servant passed away when he was still young. He grew up without any other supervision. As he grew older, Meta Knight came as a castle soldier with Sword Knight and Blade Knight. Then later, Waddle Doo and Waddle Dees came to look for a job as a castle servant. "Wow, I wonder what made them serve for that mean, old, nasty, slow-witted, selfish, aggressive, short-tempered, violent-" Dedede whacked Escargoon on ahead with his mallet, "did I mention whacky?"

"What is that thing?!" Dedede walked up to pick up the mini-gun shaped machine that can look into other's past. "Hey~ Heh-heh! I should use this on someone else!" He walked around and encountered few Waddle Dees. "Yo! Waddle Dees!" Waddle Dees faced him to see Dedede pointing the gun-looking thing at one of them. They started to freak out as they tapped on the same space aggressively. "Don't worry! This ain't gonna kill ya!" Dedede shot the laser at one of the Waddle Dee but shot it at its stomach that nothing happened. Waddle Dees looked at each other, then Dedede, then at each other, and waved their arms up and down.

"Give it here!" Escargoon said. "That's not how it works!" Escargoon shot the laser at its head. The image appeared to show the past of Waddle Dee. It was created the moving image above its head. It was created by a ray of light of a star. It landed on Dreamland and created a shape of it, and started to look around, all Waddle Dees that were just created was in its sight. They all gathered around and walked around. They all ended up at Cappy Town to look for a place to stay.

"So that's how you were born!" Dedede said.

"It wasn't that interesting..." Escargoon said, a little disappointed.

"I wanna try it on someone else!" Dedede said and ran towards the other direction.

"Sire! Wait for me!" Escargoon ran after him.

As Dedede ran, he encountered Meta Knight on the way. "Yo! Meta Knight!" Dedede called.

"Yes, your majesty?" Meta Knight responded as he turned to Dedede. Then he shot the laser at Meta Knight, but his mask reflected the laser and shot it at his head instead, therefore showing his past again. Meta Knight saw that clearly. Then he walked away silently when it was all over. Dedede had a bland expression on his face as he saw Meta Knight walk away.

"I need to know about other people's past!" Escargoon quickly snatched the machine out of Dedede's hand and ran towards another direction.

"Hey! Give that back, you thief!" Dedede ordered as he chased after Escargoon.

"Poyo, poyo, poyo," Kirby chanted as he walked inside the castle hallway. He was feeling great until Escargoon bumped into Kirby and they both fell down and the machine fell out of his hand.

"Ooh..." Escargoon groaned.

"Po...yo..." Kirby also groaned.

"Gotcha!" Dedede grabbed the machine and shot the laser at Kirby's head. However, there was really nothing to show. It all started from Kirby sleeping in his spaceship, landing on Dreamland, Dedede torturing him, Kirby defeating the monsters, and all the heroic stuff he did along with fun memories. Dedede started to throw a tantrum and screamed, "WHY DOES HE HAVE MUCH MORE FUN MEMORIES THAN I DO??!!"

"That's because he only does good deeds," Escargoon said. As he was throwing tantrum, the machine fell out of his hand.

Kirby grabbed it and held it. "Poyo?" He examined it. "Poyo!" He held it up and happily ran away from them.

"Oh, no! Kirby!" Escargoon said as he followed after him. "Please give that back!"

"Give that back you pink goofball!" Dedede chased after Escargoon.

"Poyo, poyo!" Kirby was still running away, shooting a laser at random places.

"That's it!" Dedede said as he took out his mallet and whack his way through.

"Poyo, poyo!" Kirby freaked out and ran away as he dropped the machine, which was eventually destroyed by Dedede's swing.

"Oh-ho-ho, no-ho-ho!" Escargoon said with resentment. "Aw... I paid almost half of my check to buy this..."

"You asked for it, bringing ma sad memories back without ma permission!" Dedede walked away as he put his mallet over his shoulder.

"Oh no..." Escargoon said. as he held up the broken pieces of the machine.

********

"Well, sir Escargoon," Susie said. "How is the machine?" Escargoon sheepishly showed the broken pieces of the machine. "Oh my... oh dear..."

"Is there a way to repair it?" Escargoon asked.

"It takes time to weld and everything," Susie said. "It might take up to three months or so... Looks like you whacked it up real good."

"It wasn't me, it was his highness!" Escargoon said.

"So he got his hands on it after all..." Susie said. "All right, just send it to me and I will bring it to you once it's fixed. Also, you must pay the same price as this machine to repair. You can pay when I give this back to you."

"All right..." Escargoon said. He sent over the pieces to the transporter. Escargoon sighed as he walked out, and Kirby was standing right there. "Oh, Kirby... Why can't I keep anything safe?"

"Poyo," Kirby said.

********

"Hmmm..." Susie said as she held the broken pieces. The truth is, she used it to herself before she handed it over to Escargoon. She saw herself being separated from her parents really young. However, the machine was not yet smart enough to show her parents' faces clearly. Then she was sent to the orphanage and showed the rest of the story she already knew. "I wonder who my parents were... I have no pictures, no special accessories, nothing that I can make me remember my parents..." Susie wondered as she held up the broken pieces. Some of her teardrops landed on the pieces. She was even more desperate to know about her past when she was a little kid before being sent to the orphanage.

"Susie," President Haltmann called.

Susie quickly hid the broken pieces and wiped her tears. "Yes, sir?"

"I am so sorry, but there are high demands of these special glasses from customers," Haltmann said. "Can you help the workers make more? They seem to have a problem..."

"Uh, of course, sir," Susie replied.

"Thank you," Haltmann said. "This will go to your extra pay." He walked out of her secretary's room. Susie also stood up to walk out to help the workers. As she opened the door, she turned back to look at the broken pieces one more time, and walked out and closed the door.

A/N: I'm so sorry for the longer wait than usual... forgive me, it was my midterms week! Story of college life... I'm already struggling in World History and US History... only if I passed the AP exams... I really wished I passed history exams and not science exams... I would seriously not mind taking Bio 101 and Chem or Physics 101. Uggh... I hate history... Anyways, hope you enjoyed this chapter! Thank you for your support, I'm getting close to 1K views!
