Chapter Ten: A Guild Is Your Home
As soon as Erza and Kira stepped back downstairs, a loud rumbling could be heard throughout the basement.
"Outside!" Alzack shouted.
Everyone quickly rushed outside. Along the way, Kira felt her arm grabbed by someone. Turning around, she saw him to be Brandon.
"What did you talk about with Erza upstairs?" he asked. Fire danced in his eyes again, but Kira reminded herself to not be so scared.
"You," she answered, trying to keep her voice calm. Brandon looked stunned, probably not expecting the answer. Taking advantage of his confusion, Kira quickly pulled herself away from him before he could do or say anything.
"What the hell?" Kira heard Natsu scream.
As Kira also went outside, she saw that "What the hell" was right. The cause of all the shaking was a walking guild. More specifically, a walking Phantom Lord. It moved with yellow pincer-like legs with a flat bottom attached to the ground of the guild, which splashed its way across the water. For a while, everyone just stared at the guild in awe, making a few comments on the side. Kira just stood there, raising an eyebrow at the unexpected sight. A walking guild wasn't something you saw everyday.
"I didn't predict this," Erza said from the front, visibly shaking. "That's how they choose to attack us?"
Suddenly, one of the walls of the guild lowered, revealing a . . . cannon. Kira narrowed her eyes. They weren't planning on shooting the guild, were they?
Everyone watched as it expanded closer towards Fairy Tail until it finally stopped. There, a beam of purple light began forming in front of it, growing larger and larger.
"This is bad!" Erza yelled, turning around to face everyone. "Everyone, take cover!"
Despite this, no one moved. The ball was now about as big as a Vulcan, if not bigger, and a large amount of wind was surrounding it.
Suddenly, Erza ran forward. As she ra. to the front, her outfit changed. By the time she stopped, she was in Adamantine Armor, which held very high defense power. She wasn't planning on stopping the beam with her armor, was she?
"I won't let you touch the guild!" Erza yelled at Phantom.
Bisca, Alzack and Wakaba tried to stop Erza from using the Armor, but Kira knew it was hopeless. She might not have known Erza as much as the others did, but she knew Erza wouldn't back down from what she set her mind on. In the end, the guild would have to pray that the Armor would hold and Erza wouldn't die from the force.
"Get down!" Erza yelled.
"Erza!" Natsu ran forward to try and stop her, but Gray, being the sensible one, was able to hold him back.
Without warning, the cannon fired. The beam headed for Fairy Tail faster than lightning. Lightning?
Kira knew she couldn't stop Erza, but maybe she could at least help her.
As soon as Erza set up the shield, the magic circle forming, the beam hit. Erza looked fine for now, but it was just the beginning. Kira ran up next to Erza, despite the protests from behind her. Attacking the beam directly might hurt Erza as well, but she could try to slow Phantom.
"Tsunami Storm! Lightning Storm!" she yelled, pointing her hand at the water.
The Tsunami was one of Kira's most destructive storms. If you added on the fact that she currently had more than enough water to work with and that she was adding lightning at the same time, well, it was something to think about.
While Erza kept the destructive force from hitting Fairy Tail, a tsunami rose from the waters, surrounding Phantom Lord until it was impossible to see the guild. Kira brought her hand down and the waves crashed onto the guild, lightning raining down at the same time. There was enough power to create a power outage in an entire village in one go.
As soon as the water and lightning hit, the force from the cannon disappeared. The beam itself was still fighting against Erza, but it would at least be weaker. Besides Erza, Kira and the others watched as Phantom Lord began to crumble, although only slightly. Parts of the ground and building fell into the water along with the entire cannon from before, getting swept away by the waves. Its legs shook, and the guild barely managed to stand. Kira frowned. The force should have been enough to wipe away the guild entirely. It had more defensive structure than she had expected.
Next to her, Erza was still fighting against the beam. Eventually, Erza pushed her shield forward. The now-weakened force got pushed back, landing in the water behind it, causing another mini tsunami.
"Sh-she did it!"
"She stopped it!"
"Erza stopped it!"
Although Kira was glad that Erza had stopped Fairy Tail from being blown apart, she couldn't help but feel slightly discouraged that she had done nothing to help her. All she had done was waste some of her magic power and make a fool of herself.
"Hey."
Kira turned and saw Erza smiling at her.
Kira didn't return the smile, frowning instead. "What?"
"Thanks for doing what you did," Erza said, changing the look on Kira's face to one of surprise.
"What I did?" she repeated. "But, I didn't do anything. Phantom's still standing there," she said, pointing at the guild in the water. "You're the one who actually saved us."
"Is that what you really think?"
Kira saw Mirajane smiling behind Erza.
"Even if you didn't take out Phantom completely, you still made it easier to beat. Also, you stopped the force that was attacking Erza. If you hadn't interfered, Erza could have been seriously injured right now."
"Yeah!" Natsu added as he jumped away from Gray. "And you think I would leave you alone if you took out Phantom on your own?"
Gray rolled his eyes from behind Natsu. "Did you not see what she just did to Phantom, fire-breath?" he said. "She would kill you before you could get one hit in."
"What was that, Ice Princess?"
As Erza went over to stop Gray and Natsu from fighting, Kira couldn't help but smile a little. She looked back at Phantom, which was still trying to keep its balance.
"I've had enough of this!" Jose yelled. "Hand over Lucy Heartfilia! Right now."
"Why?" Natsu yelled. "Thinking your chances at victory is losing?"
"Not on your life!" Alzack also yelled.
"Are we a guild that hands over our friends?" Bisca added. "I don't think so."
"Lucy is one of us!"
As more and more people began saying they wouldn't give Lucy up, Kira finally understood what the point of a guild was. It wasn't just a place wizards went to, to earn money. It was a family. A place where you had friends who would be there to help you. Like how everyone was willing to fight for Lucy.
Kira glanced over at the blonde girl. She had a hand to her mouth, crying. She couldn't help but think of something to say, too.
"A guild is your home! You may not understand that, but here at Fairy Tail, we always stick together! You can try anything you want, but you'll never get Lucy!"
As she said this, she looked over at Brandon. He was staring at her with narrowed eyes, the only one not screaming his loyalty. He began mouthing something at her, but she turned back to smile at Lucy, who couldn't seem to stop her tears.
Jose seemed to have had enough. "Then you'll get a second extra-large helping of Jupiter!" he yelled. "You think that was the only cannon we got?" He paused, and another cannon appeared, looking bigger than the previous one. "Quiver in fear for the fifteen minutes it takes to charge!"
Kira's eyes widened, her smile dropping from her face. They had another one? A better one? Kira bit her lip in anger. If only she hadn't taken out the first one. . . .
Suddenly, she felt someone's hand on her shoulder. "Don't go blaming yourself again."
Kira turned around to face Erza. "But because of me, they're going to use an even more destructive cannon."
Erza shrugged. "I think they would have used it even if you hadn't broken the first one," she said. "Besides, we have fifteen minutes now. We can destroy it by the time it's ready to fire."
Kira nodded. "Yeah," she said, drawing out the word. "I suppose so."
However, looking around, Erza was the only one who seemed confident. Everyone else looked worried and doubtful, murmuring among themselves.
Suddenly, more openings appeared in the guild. Out of the new entrances flew out seemingly shapeless figures with purple cloaks. They flew around in the air before coming towards Fairy Tail.
"Stare into the pits of hell, Fairy Tail!" Jose yelled manically as everyone began preparing themselves. "You only have two choices left. Be destroyed by my troops or be blown away by Jupiter!"
"But what exactly is that?" Kira asked to no one in particular. "Are they even human?"
"No," Cana answered. "That's Jose's magic, Shade. They're phantom soldiers that Jose created.
"What? Shade . . ." Bisca repeated, shocked.
"You mean ghosts?" Alzack added.
"We have to do something about Jupiter," Cana said, ignoring the two. "Erza, how much power do you have left?"
Before Erza could reply, however, Natsu stepped up. "Let me do it! Erza already had her turn. I'll bust it down!" Cana looked at Erza, who shrugged in response, and turned back to Natsu, who was already running for Jupiter.
"Happy!" he yelled.
"Aye, sir!" Happy flew over to Natsu and caught him as he jumped, flying him over to the guild.
"Um, are you sure he can do it?" Kira asked.
Erza nodded once. "Yes," she said. "I trust Natsu. He may act like a kid sometimes, but I have no doubt in his fighting abilities."
"Elfman, we're going in too!"
Kira turned around and saw Gray and Elfman also running towards Phantom Lord. She then turned to face Erza, who was smiling at them.
"Are you going to go too?" Kira asked.
Erza shook her head. "No. I think I'll fight on ground. I'm not physically injured, but fighting against the first Jupiter took out more magic power out of me than I expected."
"We'll make a stand here," Cana declared, cards already between her fingers.
Kira smiled and got ready along with the rest of her guildmates. Out of the corner, she saw Mirajane lead Lucy away. If she was with Mirajane, Lucy would be alright, right? However, Kira had no more time to worry about them as the phantoms descended upon Fairy Tail.
A/N:
If you didn't notice, I made this scene turn out differently than in the anime. I wanted Kira to have a role in fighting, and this was the best I got so far.
