Kira stood a little stupidly by the Hutt, not moving. "Are you not going?" Rey asked, concerned. Kira didn't move: she couldn't. There was so much swirling around in her mind, it was all too much. "Not yet..." She struggled out, dropping to a crouch, desperate to tame her thoughts. The force was trying to stop her from telling Rey everything: it was trying to overload her mind so she'd forget. The last time this had happened, Kira lost her control and nearly killed someone, so she needed to get away. Fast. She could hear Rey shouting her name, but she ignored it.

Kira stumbled to a stop, then crashed to her knees. Her head pounded painfully as it was being forced to overload: thoughts swirling dangerously. Partially formed visions whipped across her eyesight, leaving her dazed in their wake. Her mum's dead body, wasting away in front of her. Kylo Ren impaling Rey, leaving her to burn alive. Rey, turning her back on Kira, and leaving her. People dying, Kira's own death, the dark side clawing at her mind.

She yelled, grabbing a fist full of hair... when it suddenly, and abruptly cleared. She knew it didn't really, it was just her subconscious trying to stop her harming herself. It had only happened once more when she was 12 and her mum had finally confessed everything. The thoughts and visions slammed against her protective mind barrier, but didn't break through. A gentle voice, no louder than a whisper, echoed through her mind. "Think of the lake, Kira. The way it gently laps against the shore," The voice whispered. It sounded like it was moving, but Kira vaguely recognised the voice. Not enough to give it a name, but she definitely knew the voice. "I'm trying," She whispered, her voice breaking. "Try harder," The voice answered. Kira inhaled deeply, and pushed all of her thoughts to the lake.

Her mother had taken her to a massive lake on Hoth once: it was particularly warm that day and the lake had began to melt a little. Hoth, being the furthest planet to the sun, rarely got any beneficial heat. For only 2 days every 2 years, Hoth was the closest planet to the sun. During those 2 days, everyone flocked to the lakes and the ponds to get a taste of the warmth before it abandoned everyone again. Kira and her mum had found a little lake, only just bigger than a pond, just outside the forrest near their village. They stayed there for the whole 48 hours, soaking up the nice warm sun. "Mama, I wish it could be like this all the time," 13 year old Kira had sighed wistfully, wiggling her toes in the cold water. "I know, my dear. I do too," Her mum replied, laying on her back.

Her thoughts began to slow. "Thats it," The voice whispered again. A white cloud passed over her mind, leaving her reeling in its wake. Then it was silent. The only sound was the gentle breeze in the outside world. She could vaguely hear someone shouting her name from outside, but couldn't put a name on it. "Who are you?" Kira asked, standing up. "I can't tell you yet, but I can say it's someone you can trust," The voice offered, the sound carrying from ear to ear. "Why not?" She asked, fed up with everything. "The force works in mysterious ways, young one. I can only tell you when the force allows me." The voice continued. "Can you at least tell me if you're a dude or not?" She asked. The question might seem pointless, but at least she could kind of pinpoint who it would be... maybe. "No, I'm sorry young one," Kira sighed heavily, kicking the spotless white ground of her mind. "You must go now, your companion is worrying for you," The voice said, before abruptly leaving. The sudden absence of their presence made Kira's mind feel cold and empty.

She allowed herself to leave the confinement of her mind, slowly coming back to reality. She felt a firm pressure on her left shoulder from it being held tightly. Her vision cleared up slightly allowing her to see who was holding her shoulder. "Hello? Anyone home?" Rey's very distinctive English accent rang through her ears. Kira shook her head slightly: "Yes, someones home," She replied, smiling lightly. "God, you scared me, what the hell was that?" Rey demanded, punching Kira's shoulder. She rubbed the sore spot on her shoulder, rising to a stand. She sighed, waving her hand dismissively, "Nothing important, I just space out from time to time... I've done it ever since I was a youngling." Kira explained, still reeling a little. Rey scanned over her face: "Well don't do it again..." She paused, looking into her eyes, "It's odd," Kira snorted, "I can't control it, dude. It just happens." She grinned, "Real winner for the lads,"

"For the droid, I'll give 60 portions," Plutt spoke, drawing Rey's instant attention. Kira watched from the side, frowning. The droid in question, Kira later learned its name was BB8, made a series of beeps. Kira didn't speak droid, but somehow she could tell from those few sounds the droid was sad. Kira watched Rey hesitate: surely she wouldn't actually give the droid up? The droid bumbled over to where Kira was and made another series of noises. She shrugged apologetically, "I'm sorry my little dude, I don't speak droid," She said. The droid... somehow... looked like it was thinking. Then Rey stormed over. "Come on, let's get out of here, they want the droid," She whispered into Kira's ear range. "Shit, ok." They hurried out of the market area, making sure BB8 was following them.

Rey led them far enough away from the market area where nobody would get BB8 anymore. The two sisters stood in silence for a moment: waiting on each other to speak. "So... are you still leaving?" Rey asked, leaning on her staff. Kira's heart clenched almost painfully. "I think so..." She replied: truthfully, she wasn't sure. Rey was the only thing living anymore. Her mum was dead, she never knew her dad, and Rey was her only sibling. Something was pulling her away from Jakku, and she didn't know what. But she couldn't just leave Rey. "Come with me," She said, standing up straight, a bright smile on her face. "What?" Rey asked, frowning. "Come with me! I can fly, I'll take you off of Jakku!" Kira said, giddy. She couldn't fly: but she could learn. "I can't," Rey replied, looking away.

Kira's excitement faded quickly, leaving sadness in its wake. "Why?" Kira asked softly. BB8 beeped a few times, and he sounded sad. "I'm waiting for my family," She said, still not looking at Kira. "Rey, I don't think they're coming back.... judging from the marks on your walls, if it's been this long, they're gone," Kira gently said. It made her feel sick, knowing she possessed the knowledge to help the person in front. She could tell Rey about their mum, about their family... if only the goddam force would let her. But it wouldn't.

So she couldn't.... not for now at least.

"You don't know that," Rey insisted. Kira stayed quiet: people deal with their own shit in different ways. Hers was to sob and cry about it until she felt better: clearly, Rey's was to ignore it and stay in denial until there was concrete proof.

"Well... I'm sorry Rey, but I can't wait here. I'm forcing myself to go, and you can either come with, or stay." She finally said. She caught Rey's hurt look in her eyes: their mums eyes. "Then go. I'm waiting for my family," Rey spoke, finally making eye contact. Kira nodded, not knowing quite what else to do. The pause was louder, and more awkward, than any words could be.

"I'm saying this with as much nicety as I can, please go. If you stay, I won't be able to leave." She said, keeping a measured tone. If she made eye contact: the damn would break, and she wouldn't go. "Ok... hopefully I'll see you again... I guess." Rey sadly said. Kira bit her lip, hard and looked to the sky. โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry.

With no warning, Kira reached out and pulled Rey into a hug. She was stiff for a minute, but melted into the hug.

Kira's (rather large) ship had only just left the ground when she had to help Rey again.

โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹"Rey, isn't this a bit big for lil old me?" Kira asked before their hug. "Its just gonna rot away here: its garbage," Rey spoke, waving her hand. The massive ship was oddly shaped, with little shooting holes hidden everywhere.

Kira flicked a switch, hoping it would open a door. Surprisingly, it did. She ran to the ramp edge of the ship. "REY!" She yelled, getting her attention. Her, BB8, and some dude, skidded to a stop, then looked her way. She caught Rey point and begin running towards her. "HURRY!" Kira yelled.

A sudden presence overcame her mind: a very dark presence. It was a dark side user: the same one who had killed her mum all of 4 days ago. Red hot fury began to boil in her mind, unwillingly sending out pulses of hate and fury through the force. She didn't catch Rey flinch or make any other movements, so Kira assumed she wasn't force sensitive.

Rey final reached the ramp, diving for the pilots seat. Kira ignored the droid and other dude. She sat in the other seat, next to Rey, with a grin on her face. "I'm always saving you, huh?" She teased. Rey pouted, "Uh, no. I saved you last time!" She bantered.

Kira laughed, and the ship finally left the ground, shooting into the sky.
