The walk to Rey's hut was too quiet. Kira's head pounded painfully with every step she took: she was thirsty, she was hot, she was in pain, and she was miserable. The air was thick with tension: Kira didn't know what to say, and Rey had never met her. Rey really was the spitting image of her their mother. Same eyes, same cheekbones, same lips... even the way she walked and held herself. It took all of Kira's mental strength to not burst out crying. A sudden wave of emotion crashed down on her like a tidal wave. She sniffed a little, trying to force her mind to think about something else. The only thing that came to mind was Rey. She was like a virus, one minute she wasn't even a thought, but now she's everywhere in Kira's mind.

"So... where you from?" Rey suddenly asked. The question surprised her a little. "Pardon?" She asked. "Where are you from?" Rey asked again, not missing a beat. "Oh! Uh... A little bit of everywhere," Kira smiled. "That must be nice," Rey said, wistfully. Kira snorted, "Not particularly," She replied. "How?" Rey asked. "Well, I'd get settled in one place, then I'd have to move again.... it's not as glamorous as you think," Kira answered. "Why the interest?" She continued. Rey sighed heavily, and it was a sigh Kira was all too familiar with. "Its my dream to get off of this planet," Rey answered despondently. "Why don't you then?" Kira asked, wiping some sweat off of her forehead. "I'm waiting for my family," Rey answered simply. Kira paused for a moment.

Should she tell her? Should she keep quiet? Rey was her twin sister and Kira desperately wanted to tell her everything... but something, she didn't know what... something was telling her not to say anything, to keep quiet. It was a struggle, every single fibre in her body was begging for a sister, for a family member.

Instead, she said something else. "Oh?" Not a great something else, but something else. "Yeah... I'm hoping they'll take me back home... wherever that is," Rey finished.

The two lapsed into a silence. It wasn't a comfortable silence, but it wasn't an awkward silence.

Finally, a small hut came into view, just over a sand dune. "It's too hard to get down this dune, so I always slide." Rey said. Kira turned to face her and saw a grin (her mothers grin) on her face. "It's my favourite thing about the day," She continued. Rey dug a little in the sand and pulled out a stray sheet of metal. She laid it down on the ground and sat on top. "You'll have to squeeze on behind I'm afraid," Rey said over her shoulder. "Ok," Kira replied, dropping down onto the metal behind. "Ready?" Rey asked. Kira could practically feel the smile in her sisters voice. "Yup!" She replied, holding on.

"I don't have a lot, but it's enough. I have some bacta to use on your head." Rey spoke, grabbing some gel like stuff from behind her bed. Kira sat down gingerly. Rey's bed looked ready to fall apart. There wasn't much to Rey's hut, there was a small bed in the far corner, a small table and chair, a bowl and a small box. On the wall closet to her bed, there were several lines etched in the walls. Kira found herself tracing over the lines, wondering. "Hey, what are these lines?" She asked, picking one slightly. This one felt deeper. "Oh, nothing important," Rey answered over her shoulder. Kira frowned, these were defiantly important.

She reached out a little with the force to try and find what happened. She didn't want to use too much force in case Rey picked up on it. She could sense strong emotions, sad emotions. Lots of sadness, anger and frustration. Something cold on the back of her head abruptly pulled her out of the force with a flinch. "Sorry, it's gonna hurt a bit," Rey apologised, putting some more gel on her head. Kira let her with no resistance, it was nice to have a friendly touch again. Ever since her mum was killed 3 days ago, Kira had gone without friendly contact.

"Whats the damage?" Kira asked, picking at her nails. "Uh... its long, but not too deep. I think you'll be ok." Kira nodded slightly and let Rey finish.

The awkward silence that ensued was almost physically restraining. "Um... I need to head to Plutt's hut in the morning. You're welcome to join me, normally there's some jets there. I can't promise they work, but you might be able to get one working enough to get to another planet." Rey finally said. Kira smiled, "Thank you for everything Rey, it means a lot." She thanked. "Its no issue," Rey replied, eating... something(?) she made.

They made their way to "Plutt's hut" the next morning with no major issues... if you disregard the small droid that they ran into. "Hey, do you hear that?" Rey asked. Kira listened, and used the force to assist. "A little.... it sounds like beeping?" Kira asked. "Yeah, I think it's a droid. It sounds like it's just over that hill." Rey replied, changing direction to walk uphill. Kira groaned, causing Rey to turn around. "Do I have to walk up there?" She whined. Rey smirked, "No, but you can race me," Rey took off up the steep hill. Kira was very competitive, so she of course, raced Rey up the hill. She ignored the pain in her head and ribs.

Rey obviously reached the top of the hill long before Kira did, laughing as she struggled up, panting heavily. "I win," Rey smiled, smugly. "Yeah, yeah," Kira dismissed. "First one down the hill wins," She rushed out, folding into a ball and rolling down. "Hey! That's cheating!" She heard Rey shout, laughing. Kira shrieked as she rolled, sand getting in her hair. She landed with a slight "ooof" at the bottom, laughing heavily. Rey landed soon after, laughing as well. She stood up, dusting the sand (which seemed never ending) off of her clothes.

A sudden cacophony of frantic beeping tore through the sisterly feeling moment. "Ah, the droid is over there," Rey said, chuckling as she stood up. "OH! It's going to take ages to get all of this sand out!" She exclaimed, laughing. "You think? At least you're used to the sand!" Kira replied, picking out a small chunk of sand from her hair. "Come on, lets get on with it." Rey sighed, picking up her staff again.

~

They finally reached the droid, and after Rey politely threatened the alien trying to take him, continued heading towards "Plutts hut"

Rey talked to the droid as they bumbled along, leaving Kira to her thoughts for a bit. Her first encounter with her sister was probably one of the best interactions of her life, it was one she'd cherish forever.

The ground evened out a little, and a small shack came into view. Rey sighed heavily. "Well, here's Plutts hut. Over there are a few jets. If you get in one quick enough, you won't be seen. Then you can leave." The mood turned somber. Kira desperately wanted to leave Jakku and get on with her life, but she couldn't just leave without telling Rey everything: about their mum, their grandfather, their powers... everything.

But she couldn't.

And it physically hurt.
