ꪀinety-one
soojin only knocked on kun's door once, because it swung open the second she lifted her fist for another hit. he stood with a smile, round glasses perched on his nose and hair messy but perfect. he hadn't cut it in a while, and the girl had no complaints.
"thanks for saving me," she grinned as she sauntered past him and into the apartment. it was smaller than hers but cleaner and homier. just like how she remembered it.
"want anything?" kun began, closing the door and turning to face soojin's back as she made her way towards the dining table. "water?" she shook her head and carefully placed her things down on the glass tabletop, eyeing her reflection for a moment before looking up to meet kun's unmoving figure.
soojin's lip twitched with a grin, "i'm not gonna bite. come on, sit. we're here to work."
—
"okay, but why did you spam the space bar instead of just intending?"
"i'm not a tech nerd, kun!"
"it's basic computer knowledge!"
"well... i'm built different." she quickly flexed her arms, only forming a sad little bump of muscle.
kun huffed a deep sigh, running a hand through his black hair. "i will show you... again."
"don't say it like you've taught me anything at all."
the two continued bickering over the laptop, but kun did indeed teach soojin, since she miraculously managed to remember just about everything he showed her.
it grew comfortably quiet as the two focused on their respected projects, the only sound being the soft clicks of their keyboards. it was nice. and surprisingly domestic.
"okay, i know we said no more talking," soojin slowly began, drawing kun's attention as he lifted his head but kept his eyes on the screen for another second before meeting hers. "but thank you again. i don't think i could have done it without you...r help."
she awkwardly rubbed her nape, forcing her gaze back onto her keys. kun let out a gentle scoff, "it's no problem." then he paused, voice lowering momentarily, "this is for the company, right?"
lie? truth. lie... "it is." she decided, hand gripping her thigh as she contemplated whether that was the right move or not. she trusted kun more than anyone in the world... but she'd also trusted yuta.
kun nodded, his expression unchanging. she couldn't read what he was thinking. "and you're sure this is what you want?" his question was more of a statement, one that caused soojin's hold on her leg to tighten.
she'd been so determined. so focused and ready, but when he asked, it made soojin bite her tongue.
her head was nodding before the words reached her lips, "i am. i've been a secretary for so long, watching the higher-ups run the place like it's theirs. it may sound bitter or selfish, but i want to know what it's like to sit on the top floor. to have a purpose other than just sex and drugs and heartbreak. i want a change."
she meant it. he could tell. and it made him smile.
soojin's brows inched closer together as she watched kun's face light up. "what?"
he let out a short laugh, "no, nothing, i'm just impressed. i haven't seen you so dedicated before. it's strange. good, but strange."
as she listened to him speak with such a happy expression, soojin couldn't help but giggle along. he always had a way of brightening her mood, even when she didn't realize she needed it.
"okay, okay, it's late. i'm going home," the ravenette managed, collecting her things as she stood and stretched. it was already getting dark, and soojin whistled when she noticed.
for some reason, kun wanted to ask her to stay for a drink or something, but when the girl let out a yawn, he only smiled and helped collect her things. soojin muttered out a thank you, again when he got the door for her. "night, soojin. let me know when you get home."
soojin let a lazy smile spread up her face, "i will. good night, kun." before she disappeared down the hall, the short girl spun back with a finger raised, "and get some sleep!"
"good night!"
"night!"
